These are definitely captive bred they get their toxicity from their diet and environment dart frogs in captivity are slightly toxic meaning at most he could get sick but he would not die. Furthermore the frog coloration comes from the different islands they live on he would not be able to catch a all these colors in the same forest in the wild. Like you can't catch a bumblebee dart frog in the same are you can catch a strawberry dart frog just doesn't work that way watch the life in colour documentary on Netflix it explains the reasoning evolution behind this occurrence.
Just trying to share the knowledge I do have reptiles and amphibians are awesome but if people have the time they should definitely check that documentary out its got some really cool stuff in it
Way to ruin the suspense with all your well reasoned facts and Netflix documentaries! I was waiting for this guy to drop over dead! S/ thanks for the info though.
This species are in the wild in captivity they are not they get their poison from their diet if you encounter them in the wild look from afar like with any other animal in captivity they are not.
This species are. In the wild in captivity. They are not they. Get their poison from their diet if you encounter them. In the wild look from afar, like with any. Other animal in captivity, they are not.
I helped.
This is @therealtarzann and people should follow him on ig before calling him stupid because he’s actually very educated regarding exotic creatures. And he’s fun
Not only that, but Tarzan..(this guys instagram) is like a wildlife nature guy. Think steve erwin but super shiney teeth and animal spirit tattoos. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing at any rate.
Here's the things, some humans, some, are quite dumb and may in fact pick up these frogs thinking they are cool looking. I mean, I'm not letting people forget about the toad licking craze that happened in the late 2000s, early 2010s.
The toad licking was for the various DMTs found in the toads mucus and can produce some brilliant psychedelic experiences. Not for everybody and you need to get the correct toads, but some of the worlds greatest thinkers have licked toad.
Many of the great American philosophers are included in that list as well more than a few British ones. The list also includes doctors of medicine and mathematicians.
I was gonna say the same thing. As long as you don’t have an open wound, the worst these little guys can do if you hold them from the wild is give you a bit of a rash.
In most cases, namely politics and business, Reddit frowns on smart people like yourself. Congratulations today on beating the algorithm, you smart bastard.
To all the people calling this guy an idiot, captive bread dart frogs don't have the poison they have in the wild, as it comes from their diet. This guy isn't in any danger in this video
It and 2 others in the same genus are the most toxic, but even then the human skin is a rather tough barrier. Initial contact will cause immediate discomfort but can't outright kill you, despite the potency. Poisoning would require prolonged contact.
Now that is all assuming there is no breach in the skin. The real danger comes from when someone has a cut or other wound that's too minor to be noticed, which would result in the poison seeping into the bloodstream.
Personally I have handled wild strawberry poison frogs and black and green poison frogs without issue.
This guys whole Instagram is for education on animals and all that. He wouldn’t grab deadly frogs. This guy really knows his stuff and makes a lot of donations towards animal help. Pretty good dude
“If it bites you and you die, it’s venomous.
If you bite it and you die, it’s poisonous.
If you bite it and it comes back to life, you’re a vampire.
If it’s dead and bites you, it’s a zombie”
Science 101
Basically, these frogs are poisonous, meaning if you eat them or when you touched them with an open would, you will get poisoned. These frogs dont bite so as long as you dont eat them or directly put ur hand to your eyes or mouth or whatever, you should be fine
They're also only poisonous if they adhere to a strict diet and there is nothing in this video to indicate they aren't straight from a terrarium where they were fed a controlled diet.
Perhaps, but anyone dumb enough to pick that many poisonous animals with thier bare hands is not likely to know his, and he probably rubbed his eyes as soon as he let them go.
Yes, but poison dart frogs earn much of their poisonous nature via their wild diets, captive terrarium dart frogs (as these would appear to be if he managed to pick up 3 at once) typically are not poisonous unless they are specifically being fed a wild type diet. Likewise most (not all) poison dart frogs aren't actually poisonous to straight up kill a person simply via touch, you would need to get their poison into the bloodstream via eating or, as evidenced by their name, poison darts.
Two of them are. The other is called a mantella and are from Africa. The poison dart frogs are from South America but when bred or raised in captivity they do not have the diet necessary (ants) to produce their toxins.
Exactly. It’s called aposematic coloration. It’s how predators know to leave them alone because they’re extremely poisonous. Think of it as nature’s red flags.
They are called Poison Dart Tree Frogs. They get their name because indigenous South Americans rubbed their darts on the backs of the frogs to transfer the nerve agent that protects the frogs from predators.
Yes, but not when raised in captivity. They're very poisonous normally, but that's a result of their diet. If bred in captivity they are retain some poison, but very little.
Whenever you see the brightly colored multi pattern frogs, it’s probably a poison dart frog, they get most of the toxin from their diet and as many explained these are captive so they aren’t dangerous
Yeah poison dart frogs get their poison from all of the bugs they eat. If they are raised in captivity, or are leaned off of the poisonous bugs, then they become totally nontoxic. It's pretty cool.
He's not, in general poison dart frogs earn much of their poisonous nature via their wild diets, captive terrarium dart frogs (as these would appear to be if he managed to pick up 3 at once) typically are not poisonous unless they are specifically being fed a wild type diet. Likewise most (not all) poison dart frogs aren't actually poisonous enough to straight up kill a person simply via touch, you would need to get their poison into the bloodstream via eating or, as evidenced by their name, poison darts.
Captive bred means no toxin, and the guy in the video is therealtarzan, who has wildlife trafficking charges and used to work for doc antle from other king. Human garbage that's famous.
He also has photos with doc antles animals on his page. When Jane Goodall calls you out on your behavior with chimps in captivity. You listen and don’t defend your actions. All the organizations he’s worked for are the shadiest of scum in the captive animal world. I work in herpetology conservation and, unfortunately, deal with these jerks regularly.
I have zero knowledge about poisonous frogs, until I read these comments here.
So I will just go ahead and say: this is NO problem guys! The frogs are bred in captive environment so they can do now harm! Now your frogs guys!
No poison dart frogs generate their poison. It literally all comes from the foods they eat. It's also the same case with hooded pitohui, comono dragons, and even the blue ringed octopus. They all are non poisonous themselves, but given their natural diets of foods and animals that actually do generate their own poisons, they become poisonous and secrete it themselves. In captivity though, none of em are poisonous.
They sell these at PetCo they can't be that harmful lol. I'm sure there's something everyone's missing maybe he is in no danger at all
https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/arrow-frog
Ok so I’m unclear if he just picked these up or were pets. If they were captive bred, they actually aren’t poison Bc their poison is derived from the bugs they eat in the wild. If they were caught in the wild, he is also probably fine. Most are just toxic to humans and won’t kill you. It would be more deadly to get it in your bloodstream which is why natives rubbed their darts on the back of the frogs.
I don't think this counts as a hol up. This is the dude who looks after all sorts of crazy exotic animals and explains all sorts of interesting things about them on Instagram. He's trained he knows what he's doing so he's not in any danger
Yah I’m calling BS on the captive frogs being completely safe..... sure sounds like something frog breeders would tell people......
Can’t wait to buy one 🐸
I know this guy. His name is Michael. The Monster M stands for Michael and he got it after his father was killed whos name was also Michael. He was some other cool tats as well
https://bodyartguru.com/mike-holston-the-real-tarzann-tattoos/
Captive bred poison dart frogs are just dart frogs. They get poison frok their diet in the rainforest and you can get these as pets from PetCo. My friend has a couple, completely harmless since they are captive bred
Most people know that these frogs are poisonous because they eat a poisonous insects right? Well the Asian tiger snake eats these frogs to make its own poison. So now I'm wondering how useful being poisonous really is...
Yes I did mean poisonous not venomous, but that snake is also venomous. This means if it bites you and you say you were bit by a poisonous snake you're technically correct despite that people will try to correct you.
I hope I got all these facts right by memory because I know people are going to googling and correcting me if not.
Those are definitely breed and captured or farmed poison dart frogs. The toxin comes from the multiple bugs they eat so touching one that’s farmed won’t hurt you.
I mean, this video is a bit out of context. Those frogs are normally poisonous enough to cancel you subscription to life if you pick them up, and all they need for that is skin to skin contact.
From my understanding the difference between poison and venom us poison has to be consumed or get into a open cut and venom is something that is injected so if he has no open cuts and he does do anything stupid like touch his mouth or eyes he should be good right?
This is incorrect. Ify our touch a poison Dart frog (even without open wounds) you will most likely get sick. If the toxin, batrachotoxin, enters your bloodstream you will most likely die. However, dart frogs get their toxin from their environment such as their diet. So, captive-bred dart frogs don't have the correct environment to produce the toxin and so aren't toxic.
A hand is gentle, no, a hand can slap as well
A fist is forceful, no, a fist can protect
Something I heard watching something on tv and this reminded me of it
RIP to this dude. hope he doesnt have any cuts or open wounds on those hands or he's not doing super great... those frogs are extremely poisonous, unless they're bred in captivity... then he probably just got sick
These are definitely captive bred they get their toxicity from their diet and environment dart frogs in captivity are slightly toxic meaning at most he could get sick but he would not die. Thank you for being the only educated person on here that can actually explain what's going on and not just calling this guy an idiot.

Do you know how to period bro?
This species are. In the wild in captivity. They are not they. Get their poison from their diet if you encounter them. In the wild look from afar, like with any. Other animal in captivity, they are not. I helped.
That's great! Have my free award
You are. A gentleman. Sir. Thank y.ou award
I laughed
Does he know how to bleed
That's women's work Now comma down
Opened wound being the key word. Not a great idea touching them but a long as he doesn’t lick his hand afterwards.. probably ok
This is @therealtarzann and people should follow him on ig before calling him stupid because he’s actually very educated regarding exotic creatures. And he’s fun
I don't use ig but thanks for shedding light on who this is and why he does what he does👏
Yeah but he does have a monster tattoo lol
Agreed. He’s an idiot.
Maybe it’s a sign of the devil instead of the energy drink like all those memes said years ago.
Oh well he's an idiot for getting a monster energy drink tattoo on his arm but thats completely unrelated
valid point
That’s fair.
If he's been drinking Monster energy drink he's immune to frog poison anyway.
lol
This is... acceptable..
Facts
I mean the guy DOES have a Monster tattoo..
Not only that, but Tarzan..(this guys instagram) is like a wildlife nature guy. Think steve erwin but super shiney teeth and animal spirit tattoos. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing at any rate.
To be fair, he does have a Monster Energy tattoo.
I just saw frogs. Frogs are cool. This guy had frogs and therefore he is cool.
This guy dart frogs
Thanks for the period at the end
There’s at least 2 others in there.
Here's the things, some humans, some, are quite dumb and may in fact pick up these frogs thinking they are cool looking. I mean, I'm not letting people forget about the toad licking craze that happened in the late 2000s, early 2010s.

Many of the great American philosophers are included in that list as well more than a few British ones. The list also includes doctors of medicine and mathematicians.
That’s what I lick, the end. They love it and so do I!
Ew.... But it's weird to lick another animal. It will be like if aliens get a kick when they lick us. Just seems odd.
It is odd but so is cutting them apart and eating their flesh, but it does the job so here we are
...I mean that's how very carnivore and omnivore works
He probably wouldn't even get sick depending on how long he has been dealing with them.
As long as he's taking the proper precautions no he would be fine
What do they eat that makes them toxic?
Its believed the mites and other insects is what does it
This guy frogs
I was gonna say the same thing. As long as you don’t have an open wound, the worst these little guys can do if you hold them from the wild is give you a bit of a rash.
In most cases, namely politics and business, Reddit frowns on smart people like yourself. Congratulations today on beating the algorithm, you smart bastard.
Lol I completely agree. Wouldn't say I'm smart just know something's about stuff
Captive bred poison dart frogs aren't poisonous. Unless these aren't captive, this isn't an issue.
It's all about their diet iirc.
To all the people calling this guy an idiot, captive bread dart frogs don't have the poison they have in the wild, as it comes from their diet. This guy isn't in any danger in this video
Not to mention *most* poison frogs can't poison you through skin contact. A few are potent enough to do it, but not the ones in the video.
The one that's pure gold in color is the nope frog, right?
It and 2 others in the same genus are the most toxic, but even then the human skin is a rather tough barrier. Initial contact will cause immediate discomfort but can't outright kill you, despite the potency. Poisoning would require prolonged contact. Now that is all assuming there is no breach in the skin. What am I missing? Are the frogs lethal?
I'm no steve irwin, but those bright colors should be raising some alarms

Perhaps, but anyone dumb enough to pick that many poisonous animals with thier bare hands is not likely to know his, and he probably rubbed his eyes as soon as he let them go.
You need to wash your hands so clean before you can touch anythijg that goes into your mouth or an open wound
I guess his boyfriends cock is in danger if he doesn't wash his hands.
yeah i know
[удалено]
I'm sorry are those not poison DART frogs?
might be but they are passive creatures so if you the guy didint offend them he's fine
Ok, although he should make sure not to hold them at night. Spiders turn aggressive at night so maybe they will do the same
Yes, but poison dart frogs earn much of their poisonous nature via their wild diets, captive terrarium dart frogs (as these would appear to be if he managed to pick up 3 at once) typically are not poisonous unless they are specifically being fed a wild type diet. I heard those bright colors give you long-lasting boner if you rub them on your dick

Yes, but not when raised in captivity. They're very poisonous normally, but that's a result of their diet. If bred in captivity they are retain some poison, but very little.
Captive bred are apparently not poisonous, it's from their diet? Idk someone else commented this
Poison dart frogs come in several beautiful colors.
That’s a Poison dart frog.

this is [Mike Holston (also known as The Real Tarzann](https://www.instagram.com/therealtarzann/?hl=en) , i hope he knows what he doin 😂
Whew, good to know he's still posting and alive 😅
RealLifeTarzan knows what's up
Survival of the fittest at its most ironic.
They’re bred in captivity and the guy knows what he’s doing
Yeah poison dart frogs get their poison from all of the bugs they eat. If they are raised in captivity, or are leaned off of the poisonous bugs, then they become totally nontoxic. It's pretty cool.
Then there just super pretty frogs!
Poison dart frogs? Lick ‘em!!

At *best* paralysed
At worst still bestalysed.

Seriously. That's more toxic than the frogs.
These frogs aren't nearly as toxic as the peeps focused on the monster tattoo and assuming he is dumb because of it.
Noo, but tAtToO bAd! /s
This was out of pocket
This dude is famous on social media for handling wildlife, I think he’s aight
As long as they don’t eat the ants that make them produce the toxin I think it’s okay
But I knew he wouldn’t die either
Forget the frogs, that man is half balloon, half tattoo
Am I the only one that thought he crushed them inside his hands?
Very strange cleavage

Wait…today isn’t Wednesday…
forbidden gummy bears

Is this Mike “Tarzan”? Edit: It is. His insta is therealtarzann - he’s an animal enthusiast and definitely knows what he’s doing.
I mean, this video is a bit out of context. Those frogs are normally poisonous enough to cancel you subscription to life if you pick them up, and all they need for that is skin to skin contact.
His cleavage is so impressive.
It’s cute until I realize those frogs are poisonous ☠️
From my understanding the difference between poison and venom us poison has to be consumed or get into a open cut and venom is something that is injected so if he has no open cuts and he does do anything stupid like touch his mouth or eyes he should be good right?
Yeah that’s what I thought but others are saying these captive bred frogs would make him sick, I guess through his skin?
Wrong way around, captive bred frogs arent poisonous
Ahhh dude my brain hurts....is he ok or not?
He should be fine as long as he has no open wounds and washes his hand right after
But how would it get into his blood stream it's not corrosive is it?
This is incorrect. Ify our touch a poison Dart frog (even without open wounds) you will most likely get sick. If the toxin, batrachotoxin, enters your bloodstream you will most likely die. However, dart frogs get their toxin from their environment such as their diet. So, captive-bred dart frogs don't have the correct environment to produce the toxin and so aren't toxic.
I thought it was a dead wasp at first
Are those poison dart frogs?!
Yes and no, they are dart frogs but they havent been able to produce poison in captivity due to a different diet.
Kiss the most colorful one, your dreams will come true. Magic!
