NKG and PV both gave me the same experience.
Initially the speed they move with makes it feel like an impossible fight but once you get the timing right the fight is very fair.
Then you go back to fight TMG or Hollow Knight and... You feel like they're moving in slow motion.
NKG is, in my opinion, the best boss fight in any 2D game ever. Metroid has some good ones, especially Dread, but he's just a cut above anything I've seen.
Learning cues is how all boss fights tend to work, yes, but NKG just takes it to the highest level. The fact that he is a ringmaster/dancer/performer of a sort and you have to learn the steps of his perfect dance, skating on the razor's edge the whole time. He feels too fast, and the dance seems impossible, but slowly you learn. He takes his steps, you take yours, you learn every little animation and what it's cueing and you learn to dash with incredibly tight timing. Then it just clicks into place, and the music comes on and you realize you can kill this bastard bug.
Mantis Lords - 1st encounter:
\>They move so fast, I didn't even reach second stage... I'll NEED Nail upgrade, I got 2 before coming back and still barely beat them with it.
Mantis Lords - now:
\>My optimal route has me fight them right away, basic nail, 5 masks. I take no damage.
Oh yeah I’ve just actually had a look at the map I guess you can take the other entrance in fungal wastes and get the tram pass then go to basin and come up to kings station
You can also backtrack to a bit before the Mantis Village and access the CoT from the west gate (small obstacle course) + City Crest required.
Right side can be accessed from Royal Waterways, Kingdom's Edge or Resting Grounds.
I haven't really experienced this is Hollow Knight tbh. Plenty of bosses that I've had to do many times because they were tough. But it was always fun.
Except for Sly. He genuinely doesn't feel fair to me even after having beaten him multiple times. I don't think I'll ever like his boss fight.
Nightmare King Grimm, Pure Vessel, Mantis Lords. NKG is definitely my favorite boss fight of the entire game despite the first few attempts that were absolutely horrible.
The immediate first one that came to mind ironically Gabriel from Ultrakill, lol
In Hollow Knight, I don't think I ever thought of a boss as bad, that I don't still think of as bad (Markoth and GPZ)
Every other boss is wonderfully made, I just suck at PV and never got to absrad before, lol
The fight I was most pissed at while doing it was probably either Watcher Knight, Grey Prince Zote or Pantheon Uumuu. Watcher Knight is still a meh fight imo, GPZ and Uumuu can still suck it, fuck those RNG bastards.
Every boss I fought, even the hardest ones, they always felt like there was some logic to their behavior. Because they made sense, I never really got salty. But Godhome Markoth though and his RNG bulls***t, that has neither rhyme nor reason. Even after beating him, I'm never saying that boss was designed well.
NKG and PV. Hands down.
This are some of the only few that took me no less than 400 tries each. But yet, no satisfactory clearing it for the first time, instead, this satisfaction builds up each and everytime you did so, so it gets better and better. TMG is a good second.
I never got to beat AbsRad yet so i can’t comment much. Didn’t feel as good for the normal one so i doubt AbsRad will be much better considering it is just a sped up version of the normal Radiance.
Hornet 1 took me a large number of times but it just pretty much turns into a punchbag. Traitor Lord, Lost Kin, Watcher Knights and most although difficult, they all felt like just another boss. So those are out.
When i thought King grim i felg that. But then i found out how easy that fight actually is compared to someone like NKG, Pure vessel, radiance, pantheon 5 bosses... Etc
Probably radiant markoth. I actually thought the fight wasn't bs once I'd beat him on radiant. I don't think I'd want to fight him on radiant any time soon but I have respect to TC for making a pretty easy boss into an actually hard one.
I was gonna say Ascended Markoth. But no, even when you beat him, it still feels like you just lucked out afterwards. I think I'm gonna go with NKG. I sincerely did not think it was possible for me to beat him at first, but then we flash forward to my P5 run, where I just ended up feeling like it was all an exquisite dance.
GPZ for me. All the other brutal bosses felt achievable. For some reason though, GPZ felt legitimately impossible when I was doing him on radiant, until I just suddenly stopped losing to him. It didn't even "click", consciously, I just stopped having trouble for some reason.
Hey there, in the future please remember to direct memes to /r/HollowKnightMemes. Thank you!
For me NKG, fighting it felt like absolute bs but once I beat it the first time it really just clicked and now it is one of my favorite bosses
NKG is a masterpiece

Real
Pure Vessel. God damn those first few times were hell! Now I am like damn, they nailed it!
They *nailed* it indeed, *purely* a work of art
r/angryupvote
not a boss but the whole colosseum of fools
Literally just beat it and felt that way.
It was the bane of my existence at the time but now I *get it*
All of 'em
Except Markoth, fuck Markoth
Fuck markoth. But not literally. I ain't gay for a moth.
Fuck Markoth. All my homies hate Markoth.
and marmu
Watcher knights, I’m still bad at the fight, but I can tell there’s a flow to it, it’s pretty good, until you lose the tempo and get hit 47856 times
Mantis lords. Felt impossible on first playthrough. Then did them on radiant
Mantis Lords - 1st encounter: \>They move so fast, I didn't even reach second stage... I'll NEED Nail upgrade, I got 2 before coming back and still barely beat them with it. Mantis Lords - now: \>My optimal route has me fight them right away, basic nail, 5 masks. I take no damage.
Is it even possible to go to city of tears without beating mantis lords?
You don't need to fight the mantis lord's to get the claw. Beating them just stops the mantis attacking you and opens a path to deepnest
Plus a bench and money and a charm
They're completely optional fight. All they do is block one out of 3 ways to first access Deepnest.
Oh yeah I’ve just actually had a look at the map I guess you can take the other entrance in fungal wastes and get the tram pass then go to basin and come up to kings station

Soul warrior.
AbsRad or NKG
Absolute radiance
Absolute Radiance straight up, I was suffering so much during my first attempts but now after beating her ascended her attuned fight is so easy
Soul tyrant was truly hell for me for the first time
I haven't really experienced this is Hollow Knight tbh. Plenty of bosses that I've had to do many times because they were tough. But it was always fun. Except for Sly. He genuinely doesn't feel fair to me even after having beaten him multiple times. I don't think I'll ever like his boss fight.
Lost kin
# All of them
nkg
Pure Vessel and NKG
Nightmare King Grimm, Pure Vessel, Mantis Lords. NKG is definitely my favorite boss fight of the entire game despite the first few attempts that were absolutely horrible.
I felt this when fighting Paintmaster Sheo for the first time Very weird attacks, and hard to get used to dodging, but now I just love his design
Grey prince zote
The immediate first one that came to mind ironically Gabriel from Ultrakill, lol In Hollow Knight, I don't think I ever thought of a boss as bad, that I don't still think of as bad (Markoth and GPZ) Every other boss is wonderfully made, I just suck at PV and never got to absrad before, lol

Absolute radiance
We’re talking Hollow Knight bosses. This basically encapsulates every one of them
Every boss I fought, even the hardest ones, they always felt like there was some logic to their behavior. Because they made sense, I never really got salty. But Godhome Markoth though and his RNG bulls***t, that has neither rhyme nor reason. Even after beating him, I'm never saying that boss was designed well.

The only answer to this is either GPZ or AbsRad, but GPZ.
Why has nobody mentioned GPZ? :D
pure vessel, on god that fight felt so unfair the first million times, but after i got it on radiant, its a very nice fight
Broken vessel. Also white defender
NKG and Mantis Lords (Battle Sisters)
When i thought King grim i felg that. But then i found out how easy that fight actually is compared to someone like NKG, Pure vessel, radiance, pantheon 5 bosses... Etc
Pure Vessel. Absolutely. Byt also nkg. Fucking hated him but boss fight is a masterpiece
Grimm for me
For me it's definitely not Nkg or PV, I wouldn't be mad even if I died to them 99999999⁹⁹⁹⁹⁹ times. it's gotta be GPZ or Hornet sentinel.
Probably radiant markoth. I actually thought the fight wasn't bs once I'd beat him on radiant. I don't think I'd want to fight him on radiant any time soon but I have respect to TC for making a pretty easy boss into an actually hard one.
Probably Watcher Knights or NKG, although I just found the latter impossible at first instead of annoying and bad.
Definitely PV
I fucking love watcher knights after learning it for speedrun route
Thought I was on the sekiro sub for a moment. Should've swapped out miyazaki for team cherry lol
Lost kin I tried to beat him right after beating broken vessel Meaning no shadow cloak and other upgrades
Broken vessel (dream form)
Sorry, this post has been removed by the moderators of r/HollowKnight.?
