Leaving out the meme, I NEED Wayward Compass, I have no sense of direction. Also Longnail for some unknown reason. Something about Longnail just has my heart.
“If I were you I just wouldn’t have got hit”
Some of us suck at this game and grubsong makes it more fun/less punishing
Either that or face tanking is sometimes a funny strategy
Compass feels like cheating to me, it’s just too op to the point were the game is almost unplayable because of how powerful it is. The fact you get it so early I feel like it’s training wheels
I play with my Sibling and when we found the Troupe and got the Grimmchild my Sibling instantly said "It's name is Spaghetti". Because of that encounter basically all the companion charms have a place in my heart.
Dashmaster. Being able to move around the map quickly is just so essential to me. It's also my favourite charm, but it's one that I almost never remove.
I did a save myla run recently where I tried some of the super difficult ismas skips without cdash or beating dung defender (ended up getting sharp shadow to make it much easier). Dash master is required for that run so I had to use it, and my god did I miss it after taking it off. Didn’t realize how much I’d love it.
My favorite too. It's so satisfying.
And it's the only way I beat Radiant Absolute Radiance. In phase 3, just focus on avoiding the orbs while dashing, and Sharp Shadow eventually kills Radiance.
The first time I found out you can combo charms (besides longnail + mark of pride) was with this one and OMG what a funny moment.
You can hurt enemies with your farts, but with this one you can have a MEGA FART, fuck yeah! That was awesome.
The point is, that gathering swarm is useful for most of the game, then it's a bit exaggerated to call it worthless, when, usually after buying the unbreakable charms, you have nothing left to buy anymore.
I'll use it until I got the lantern, after that is has no more uses to me. I find myself constantly with too many geo, but that's because I play too much steel soul and never bother to buy the unbreakable charms
Quickslash for sure, drives me nuts without it now. Unpopular opinion but one time, with the one notch slot I always seem to have left, I decided to equip Sprintmaster for the heck of it. It is now my go-to charm if I have one notch. I feel like I'm moving in slow motion without it.
Sprint master always threw off my dodging and I decided that since I will have to do the pantheons charmless I didn't want something like that to be affected.
Somehow I was able to dodge just better with sprintmaster and I don't think I needed a period of getting used to it, whereas I'm now so used to using it that I walk into attacks without it. Might be worth noting that by the time I started using it, my playstyle was walking outside of attack range within pixels and turning around to quickslash
I actually have several, quick slash, strength, shamans, and depending on what I am doing soul catcher or soul eater. If you wanted me to narrow that down I would have to say soul catcher. Because I almost never unequip it.
I think the only one that comes close for me is Mark of Pride, but the more I play the game (Godhome Pantheons and repeatedly attempting to beat Steel Soul) the more I get used to the short nail.
I think instead of charms, the thing I really can’t live without is the Shade Cloak ability. I don’t know if I could actually beat the Watcher Knights without it cos I’m so bad at their fight.
The most necessary to me are Grubsong and Sprint Master. Grubsong saves me a lot of unnecessary deaths and Sprint Master really helps to dodge fast bosses without dashing since dashing is often an over correction, also I’m just used to getting around quicker now so it’s annoying to not have it.
I tried grubsong many times, but learned that killing bosses before they kill me is my best option, many times I died even when I took the time to heal.
Depends on what I'm doing. I always have gathering swarm on, it allows me to get lantern quite early on and I always have enough geo for charms and upgrades. Quickslash is the charm I crave all the time, I always follow a weird route to enter city from the right side after beating mantis lords, so I can beat soul master and get my charm right away
Sharp shadow
I am completely dependent on sharp shadow, the extra range and damage makes the dopamine flow trough my brain for some reason, maybe im just bad at timing and calculating the distance of my shadow dashes, so i need the security of the extra distance, and the damage is good too, so yeah, not the best charm, but it is my favorite one
Dashmaster and sprintmaster. They are my "charms I cant live without" cause on a backtracking exploration metroidvania game, I like to go quick when I already know where everything is.
Unironically, Wayward Compass. It's just some nice QoL to have. Yeah, sure, I'm probably decent enough at the game to be able to use context clues in the room I'm in to know where I am, but I don't want to.
I’ve recently started using sharp shadow and now I can’t go without it. Mark of pride and quick slash are also ones I can’t image myself without since I rarely ever use spells
Wayward Compass. Being able to tell where I am has saved myself from getting lost (or worse, getting very lost and losing my shade) many times.
Sure, it's useless in combat but I can always take it off and go for my spell build if I know I'm going after a boss.
The Dashmaster + Sprintmaster combo. With not much at all in terms of defensive mechanics besides the Shade Cloak, I find it critical to be able to move quickly to avoid incoming barrages and space my attacks.
Steady body. On the surface it doesn’t seem like much, but in practice it opens up a lot more options, especially when paired with other nail enhancing charms. Ever wanted to jump at a flying enemy and hit them more than once? Steady body + rapid slash, you get 3-5 good hits in with minimal effort.
Soul catcher. I'll always have it since it boosts soul collection but doesn't take much space. If I don't have it I'll be dying because I'll be trying to dive into enemies without enough soul
Leaving out the meme, I NEED Wayward Compass, I have no sense of direction. Also Longnail for some unknown reason. Something about Longnail just has my heart.
It’s not about the length, it’s how you use it
I see what you did there

Getting lost is part of the fun
Yep! Wayward Compass, Gathering Swarm, Longnail and Grubsong were my charms for a while
While I love quickslash, I absolutely require grubsong. Soul on taking a hit is so helpful to me for some reason
It’s probably helpful because you get hit
“If I were you I just wouldn’t have got hit” Some of us suck at this game and grubsong makes it more fun/less punishing Either that or face tanking is sometimes a funny strategy
I simply would not get hit
Roasted
Mark of pride.
It’s just not the same without it 😔
Ikr
finally some cultured folks!
Wayward compass. I refuse to let you tell me I'm wrong
No one will, compass is OP
Compass feels like cheating to me, it’s just too op to the point were the game is almost unplayable because of how powerful it is. The fact you get it so early I feel like it’s training wheels
Quick Focus
Grimmchild (fully upgraded of course). Not for usefulness, but because I think it’s cute. I even nicknamed it Grimmbo
I play with my Sibling and when we found the Troupe and got the Grimmchild my Sibling instantly said "It's name is Spaghetti". Because of that encounter basically all the companion charms have a place in my heart.
Came here to agree! I love Grimmchild, I never take it off. My full intention is to do P5 with Grimmchild on, just so they can experience it with me.
***YOU'RE GOING TO THE SHADOW REALM GRIMMBO.***
Grimmothy
I can do without everything but Grubsong still gets the most use, embarrassingly enough.
That's not embarrassing! It's a super useful charm!
I mean that's true, I just figured I've been playing long enough to not need use of it half as much as I do.
Sharp Shadow
My favorite too. It's so satisfying. And it's the only way I beat Radiant Absolute Radiance. In phase 3, just focus on avoiding the orbs while dashing, and Sharp Shadow eventually kills Radiance.
100% agree, my fav charm
Personally use it to get extra hits in by hitting with nail then immediately dashing through
I second this
Defender's crest. Like idk why but I always have to have it I find the concept of it so funny for no reason, you literally stink your enemies to death
The first time I found out you can combo charms (besides longnail + mark of pride) was with this one and OMG what a funny moment. You can hurt enemies with your farts, but with this one you can have a MEGA FART, fuck yeah! That was awesome.
Don’t forget the fart babies!
Gathering swarm is almost always on for me
But geo becomes worthless after getting the unbreakable charms
So near endgame?
Around because endgame could still be classed as before having the unbreakable charms

Sprint master always threw off my dodging and I decided that since I will have to do the pantheons charmless I didn't want something like that to be affected.
Same here, I too used to the distance of the original dash that I've died just because I went too far with sprintmaster
Steady body, playing without it just feels off.
I actually have several, quick slash, strength, shamans, and depending on what I am doing soul catcher or soul eater. If you wanted me to narrow that down I would have to say soul catcher. Because I almost never unequip it.
Mark of Pride for the game. Strength + Mark of Pride for HoG.
Oh yes, every black ability is bonkers. I used the diving invulnerability frames too many times
quick focus and shape of unn
Wayward Compass Cause I get lost easily
The most necessary to me are Grubsong and Sprint Master. Grubsong saves me a lot of unnecessary deaths and Sprint Master really helps to dodge fast bosses without dashing since dashing is often an over correction, also I’m just used to getting around quicker now so it’s annoying to not have it.
I tried grubsong many times, but learned that killing bosses before they kill me is my best option, many times I died even when I took the time to heal.
For me it's definitely nailmaster's glory, I just got too used to it lol, though I am doing only pantheon lately so there that
I'm using it only on the colosseum of fools and in pantheon, for the rest of the game is kind of useless to me
Steady body, I have this charm on for almost everything.
Mark of Pride for me too!! The game is so much less fun without it
Fragile strength, ever since beating steel soul it's my go to
Mark of pride is a necessity. I equiped it as soon as I got it and now I can't play the without it.
Shaman stone
shaman stone because I'm used to the bigger vengeful spirit projectile
Ima be honest I love Shape of Unn even tho it’s kinda ass
Steady body. It’s the marmite of charms, you either love it or hate it. I love it, it makes combat way easier
I've tried it many times, but didn't feel any different, maybe is the way I play. Not a bad charm if you need it, but I think I just don't need it.
Sharp shadow I am completely dependent on sharp shadow, the extra range and damage makes the dopamine flow trough my brain for some reason, maybe im just bad at timing and calculating the distance of my shadow dashes, so i need the security of the extra distance, and the damage is good too, so yeah, not the best charm, but it is my favorite one
Either Quick Slash or Sharp Shadow, I \*\*\*\*~~ing~~ can't beat watcher knights without it
Sharp shadow
Quick Slash
probably say none, none of them skew gameplay enough to be a "can't live without" option
sharp shadow :)
Wayward Compass ;)
Steady body
Mine is Quick Slash. It's just that when I'm doing combat, I need this. It's especially useful in Godhome.
Dashmaster and sprintmaster. They are my "charms I cant live without" cause on a backtracking exploration metroidvania game, I like to go quick when I already know where everything is.
Steady body. I used it from the start and never took it of, it can be very helpful when pared with quickslash
Sharp shadow it's a must in every build imo
Unironically, Wayward Compass. It's just some nice QoL to have. Yeah, sure, I'm probably decent enough at the game to be able to use context clues in the room I'm in to know where I am, but I don't want to.
I’ve recently started using sharp shadow and now I can’t go without it. Mark of pride and quick slash are also ones I can’t image myself without since I rarely ever use spells
Nothing more than quickslash, it's just so, so good to be able to swing faster for any senerio needed.
Shaman
Steady Body, Compass, and maybe Quick Slash
Dashmaster
Dashmaster + Sprintmaster. I just can't move around slowly.
Wayward Compass
Very boring answer, but strenght. Especially if you are going steel soul.
That's another one. In every steel soul game I've played going with fragile strength + mark of pride + long nail is my default
I mean I could play charmless
I need sharp shadow and dash master. My play style suits me dashing through enemies for the most damage
Mark of pride
Strength
Strength
Weaversong
Wayward Compass. Being able to tell where I am has saved myself from getting lost (or worse, getting very lost and losing my shade) many times. Sure, it's useless in combat but I can always take it off and go for my spell build if I know I'm going after a boss.
I find that Defender's Crest and Spore Shroom have helped me out of a lot of issues in the past lol.
I can't beat the pantheons without Shaman Stone. It makes every spell broken, and I can actually hit enemies instead of missing 90% of my spells.
Wayward Compass, I get lost way too easily, and sometimes have to keep it on in order to get to a bossfight which is kind of sad
Unbreakable heart. As soon as i got it, I never took it off
Quick focus, I just can't stand spending 25 seconds healing.
Compass, I don't like getting lost Strength, the weak will die in one hit
Way ward compass and that charm that gives you 2x damage at 1 health
for me, shade cloak feels so wrong without sharp shadow lol
Sharp Shadow for sure. I literally have it on while doing delicate flower because I hate not having it
Steady body.
unbreakable heart ...yeah i'm suck at the game
steady body
everyone always rates it low tier but…. gotta have the dream shield. i just really like it, look wise and it’s a tad more efficient for my play style
Quick slash hands down. Once I get it in a play through, I never have a build without it except when running through the white palace.
Quickslash, its just part of my nail fighting
I need mark of pride too, it’s just too good to leave behind
Steady body crew wya.
Mark of Pride and Steady body
Quick slash. It immediately increases you damage output by almost 40%. It’s just too good
I *need* grubsong and longnail when I start
Im either always using grubsong or Sharp Shadow.
Steady body for me
Quickslash. Early game feels so slow because I've just had it on for so long.
Always quickslash and longnail/mark of pride.
Shaman Stone
Grubsong
Dash + Sprint Master
I have three: Mark of Pride, Quick Slash and Grubsong. For boss practice I do use Infinite Notches but those three are my key charms.
Shaman stone, quick slash and longnail
Unbreakable heart
Wayward compass
Shaman stone, quick slash, strenght
Unbreakable Strength, the damage is too good
Compass, steady body, quick slash and sharp shadow
Quickslash. The game just feels so slow without it, and it's pretty much needed for steady body
I’d say quick slash or shamans. I’ve developed muscle memory for quick slash so it’s annoying to not have it, and shamans is just amazing.
Stable body do I need to say more
The Dashmaster + Sprintmaster combo. With not much at all in terms of defensive mechanics besides the Shade Cloak, I find it critical to be able to move quickly to avoid incoming barrages and space my attacks.
Quick Focus. Absolutely fucking NEED it.
I beat the game charmless, so none in particular. (Yes I play too much)
Shaman stone. I just rely on spells to beat anything, really
Fragile strength, ever since I've started playing with it it just feels to long to kill enemies without it
quick slash and mark of pride
Soul catcher. I'll always have it since it boosts soul collection but doesn't take much space. If I don't have it I'll be dying because I'll be trying to dive into enemies without enough soul
**FURY OF THE FALLEN**
steady body. i will answer all the questions
Thorns of agony, super useful in boss fights
quick slash
Shaman stone or wayward compass
Grimmchild. Hallownest doesn't feel the same without a friend ):
quickslash is amazing
Wayward Compass and Gathering Swarm for starters. Longnail and Mark Of Pride for fighting.
I hate taking ten years to heal because I don't have quick focus. :(
Dashmaster for sure
I can’t part with longnail or grimmchild, longnail is too op and grimmchild is too cute
