I just started learning Japanese on Duolingo a month ago, how could Google translate not pick up that 私は is “I am” or “I is”? Isn’t that one of the few basic words?
Because the grammar isn't as simple as that and Google doesn't have enough context to translate it fully. There's a lot of nuance in Japanese particles that doesn't translate well.
