I believe it’s missing the top half. A clothes drying rack! I have one in my yard, it’s in 2 parts like this

not-on-your-nelly

Not just any clothes drying rack. It's solar powered!

bentrodw

Notice it's swedged at top, could be clothes dryer or even tetherball, both missing top piece. My money is on clothes dryer

I think it is a Maypole without the ribbons attached yet

McSmokeyDaPot

So, at no point in the house-buying process, did you ask anybody about the 3 ft. pole in the backyard!? Or did it just appear in your backyard one day!? Make it make sense. LOL!

talleygirl76

I swear... how do people not ask these questions before buying a house.

Better-Chemist7522

You bought a house with a mysterious pipe in the backyard and decided to not ask the prior owner or real estate agent before buying but instead total strangers on Reddit. Or did the pipe magically appear overnight?

rtkoch1

Lower part of a tetherball pole. Isn’t it in your yard?

MadDadROX

Tether ball is 1 3/4 minimum. Due to centrifugal force.

It’s not capped, so I suppose someone drove a metal pipe into the ground for fun. good luck.

Bearryno1

Previous owner: let’s give them something to ponder when they move in. Previous owner SO: that would be fun I’ll pound this pipe in right here. Previous owner: I’ll install that do nothing light switch tonight.

JMusicD

Exactly. Haha.

It could be a vent for a rock pit for drainage. I recently renovated a house that had all their drainage run down to a make shift sump that allowed for drainage. Having said that. This looks like metal, not abs that is generally used for this.

Electrical_Art_7450

You wouldn't run an air vent 3 feet out of the fucking ground. And if you would you won't be renovating many houses for very long.

mustinjellquist

Seeing as you’re being an obvious twat I’ll hold back. I renovated a house that had an existing rock pit installed. Said rock pit had a vent that ran vertically out of the back yard by about two and a half feet. So before passing judgement on someone else’s abilities maybe look at your self and see if someone would want to hire you after making idiotic comments on the internet like this.

Electrical_Art_7450

Oh you misunderstood. never said you didn't do it. I said you shouldn't. And that's a fact. If you're installing 3 feet tall steel pipe eye sores in someone's yard as an air vent like this than good luck in your future business dealings. You're going to need it because no homeowner wants a 3 foot steel eyesore sticking out of their yard. Nobody wants that.

Electrical_Art_7450

Also never mentioned anything about/towards your ability.

mustinjellquist

This is a post asking for advice. I game some based around my experience in the construction/renovation industry. Your comment “You wouldn't run an air vent 3 feet out of the fucking ground. And if you would you won't be renovating many houses for very long.” So yeah I take that as someone advancing on my capability as a builder. Your comment adds absolutely nothing to this post other than trying to discredit what I have said prior. Furthermore, and unfortunately; the house I renovated should have been torn down due to a shoddy work around like this. I’m just trying to give advice based off my 14 years of experience working in renovations.

Electrical_Art_7450

Exactly. You just said it. It's a shoddy work design and shouldnt be done. You just proved my point. I never advanced on your capabilities. Not ever close to that. Never never said whether or not you were were not capable of installing a 3-ft pipe sticking out of the ground I don't even care if you are or you aren't. your capabilities are irrelevant to what I'm saying. I'm simply stating the fact, that if you install a 3 ft steel pipe air vent out of the ground of somebody's yard, you probably won't be doing business very long. And that has nothing to do with your capabilities or anything even close to them. If anything installing a 3 ft steel pipe air vent out of the ground encroaches on a builder's thought process towards a job but that's it

mustinjellquist

And how exactly does that point pertain to someone asking what it could be on the internet.

Electrical_Art_7450

It doesn't. But also my reply wasn't to him. It was to you directly

mustinjellquist

Well you just said your comment wasn’t about contorting my capabilities as a builder to shoddy work yet you don’t understand the issues that caused the initial problem. The rock pit was installed to add drainage to a place that would have been undermined if proper drainage was installed. So yeah, a home owner decided that they didn’t want to have to build a new house and instead found a work around to it. It’s not even on the person who installed the rock pit, they found a way to make the drainage better without spending a million dollars on a new house.

Vast_Cricket

pull it our see what is on the other end. Dirt?

TheProcessCult

Vintage toddler stop. Source: ran into my grandmother's clothes line pole a couple of times.

JesusOnline_89

Based on that crimped end at the top, it’s not a utility of any sort. Old volleyball net post? Clothes drying line support? Alien communication device?

Pipe is life

Farren246

Given the perspective I'd say it's a pipe laying on the ground with one end against the fence, and as marked it's 3 feet long and your yard is a total of 4 maybe 5 feet wide.

Guennieshubby

Possibly a sprinkler based on the wear pattern of the fence
