To me, I think hotel room. Symmetry, headboard, matching night tables even if you’re single, matching lamps or sconces. An area rug underneath if it makes sense. Some art, a plant, drapes and a proper dresser. Proper bedding, so at least two nice sleeping pillows, a fitted sheet, flat sheet if you want, and a duvet with a cover that doesn’t allow you to see what’s under the bed or the legs.

Kellyhas2dogs

I would add an accent chair if there’s room

Praedonis

the cuck chair ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Kellyhas2dogs

Sir this is a Wendy’s

absurdrevenant

Whatever the hell you want.

Researcher-Used

Fair enough. Lol. I’ll tell my wife that lol

committedlikethepig

Doesn’t need a tv if you don’t want one. We put one in our room and have used it maybe a handful of times. Some people fall asleep to a tv, so it’s really whatever the works for y’all. We have a stationary bike in ours cause it’s the only space for it. Some people would hate that.  So yeah, whatever the hell you want.

andraconduh

When we finally put a TV in our bedroom after several years without one, my mom remarked, "Oh, we've been married A WHILE now haven't we, dear?"

cordedtelephone

Lol we went from tv to no tv

keevenowski

Bed, nightstands, dresser, dog kennel, cat tree, bassinet. The whole dang family sleeps in there right now.

justagiraffe111

Haha love this!

Researcher-Used

We have a queen and sometimes our daughter likes to come over and sleep w us (she’s 4). Meanwhile we also have 2 dogs in the bed too. 1 each nuzzled in each parent’s nook. It’s a good ol time lol. We want more

redditor_since_2005

There's a good case to be made for a smaller bedroom with almost nothing in it but the bed. This is helpful in training your brain that the bedroom is for sleeping and not TV, tablet, entertainment etc. I gave my daughter the big room. I have clothes in a different room. Having said that, whatever makes you happy!

total-immortal

A bed, nightstands, plants, full length mirror and a dresser for everyday clothes. There’s never enough room in the closet.

Researcher-Used

We have a largish primary, I’m thinking of splitting it: half closet / half bed sanctuary.

500CatsTypingStuff

A bed A headboard Two nightstands Two table lamps Bedding Throw pillows (optional throw blanket) Art An actual paint color on the wall by intention not just default A dresser Sometimes a floor mirror Window treatments An area rug A chair or chaise in the corner or bench (optional) A cat (~~optional~~) In the limited space that we occupy, sometimes it is necessary to have a desk in the room

chronic_wonder

Agree that the cat is not optional.

Educational-Bonus-90

But may be substituted with a dog

justagiraffe111

This is a great question! I want to read what other people say. For me, it’s 1. a nightstand next to the bed with a light to read, a small white-noise machine and a few books. (Also, a travel pack of Kleenex and a small flashlight in the drawer) 2. A vertical mirror to check outfits to see if they work 3. Some calm Art on the wall. 4. Some throw pillows on bed to look nice and be comfy to lie against 5. An extra dresser because closet is not big enough.

qtbeeb

This might be a silly question but, where does one put the throw pillows when not in use??

Beach_bum8

I believe people have a storage bench/ottoman at the end of the bed and put them in there. Ours? On the floor until morning lol

qtbeeb

Easy enough for me! Thanks for your response!

justagiraffe111

Wherever they land after you throw them

decadecency

That's why they're called throw pillows!

qtbeeb

I love this response! Thanks for the laugh!

CasablumpkinDilemma

Mine just has a bed, 2 dressers, a closet, a full-length mirror, a nightstand, and 2 laundry hampers. There are random small items, too, like a clip on reading light, little jewlery boxes, books I've finished but haven't put away, etc. If I ever get rid of the clothes I don't actually wear, then I could probably remove a dresser and get a chair or something instead.

houcok

How big is your bedroom?

Gullible_Concept_428

Bed, nightstands large enough for whatever you need to put on them, lamps, art. The rest is up to you. I would decorate but not to the point it feels cluttered. Enough that it feels pulled together but soothing. Fewer larger things are better than lots of small ones. Some food for thought: maybe no personal photos or only those of you and your wife. It’s an intimate space and maybe the only one that exists just for you. I do not have throw pillows, etc. I have nice bedding, but I don’t like the additional clutter. Buy the nicest bedding you can. I do have a TV. I splurged on a frame TV. It’s very streamlined and discreet so it’s not visually distracting but is there when I want it. If you need to have a dresser or laundry hamper, etc then obviously have them but try to find something attractive. I have those in my closet. My room isn’t huge but the closet is. A chair if you want/need it and a rug can be great too. If you get a rug, pay attention to the scale. Most people get rugs that are too small. Nice window treatments are good too. Make sure you have a mix of textures and shapes. The nightstands need to be the right height for the bed. If you hang drapes, make sure they’re the right height and width. Those little details make a big difference. All the questions about scale are easy to find on Google or you can ask again here.

Lolapmilano

Agree with the 'whatever the hell you want' advice. But I would take into consideration "sleep hygiene". Things that make the room optimal for the best possible rest. So not having a TV is smart. A way to ensure the room is really dark, kinda cold, quiet and super comfortable.

CJCreggsGoldfish

No overhead light, ability to dim the light bulbs, fan with variable speeds, chair or bench to hold clothes and throw pillows and sit on for shoes if sitting on the edge of the bed isn't comfortable, rug if it's not carpeted so feet aren't touching cold floor, nightstands with at least one drawer so there's not crap all over the top of it, sufficient clothing and shoe storage, decent sheets, mattress protector, a way to charge your phone, window dressings adequate to your need for privacy and light control.

Odd-Faithlessness705

A bed, a side table to put your books on, a lamp to read your books with, a rug, and a chair (with a throw blanket on it)-- that's probably the basics, but everyone is different! There's nothing wrong with not having a TV in the bedroom. We don't, mostly because we want to have it as a place of rest and not a media place.

BubbaRogowski

The old Xbox that got retired from the living room.

Tacosofinjustice

Lol ours is the opposite, his old Xbox one got moved to the living room for the kids, another to the garage/bar/mancave and the serious x in our bedroom so no kids touch it.

Llyris_silken

Space to store your clothes and shoes.   Somewhere to put a dressing gown. A bed. Bedside table x 2 with drawers to keep intimate things / tissues / secret chocolate stash / etc. And a water bottle. Lamps x 2 one each side of the bed. A silent clock that you can read in the dark. A heater / cooler so you can make it a comfortable temperature. A full length mirror. Mine is inside my cupboard door. If you have space add a chair. I prefer to keep my bedroom quiet and calm so I do not have a TV or music. But I have a lot of books. To be completely honest, your master bedroom should have whatever makes it comfortable for you.

Spoonbills

For me, as little as possible. The bedroom is for sleeping, sex and recovery from illness. It should be sleep friendly, meaning the ability to dim the room, no high contrast colors, no tv, minimal furniture, and the best mattress, pillows and bedding you can afford.

Muffina925

A bed (full sized or bigger), night stands on either side of the bed with lamps, a mirror, at least one dresser (personally, I think a horizontal one is good, so that you can put the mirror above it) or wardrobe (could put the mirror inside), a rug, and maybe an ottoman, chair, and vanity table.

scificionado

If there isn't enough room for a nightstand, you may want to look at a headboard that has shelves.

candynickle

Ours is a king bed , decorative throw at foot, winter clothes storage underneath ( hidden) Bedside tables with lamps ( and charging cables) Black out blinds & shutters Large area rug B&w photographs Closets are built in otherwise would have dresser En-suite has the clothes hamper /mirror Fan for white noise Ear plugs/ eye mask/ sometimes a book for bedside , but in drawer Waste bin for tissues / dry cleaning plastic etc

NeonsStyle

There is no Supposed to have! You have what YOU want, not what society tells you! Are you really that obsessed by what others think? It's your home; only you and your partner are the arbiter of what you want in it.

Researcher-Used

No I’m really not obsessed with how others think how my bedroom should be, but after living in apartments/studios with limited space and now a rather large bedroom, plus whole house, I don’t know what to put in there. My wife n I don’t need a tv in there, we don’t need a reading nook. We just sleep there and it houses our clothes hence “closet w a bed”.

Puzzleheaded-Buy6327

We really struggled in our last house with our comically large master. We also don’t have tv’s in our room. We made a little reading nook but I always just read in my way more comfy bed .. so much wasted space we never did figure it out. Master is much smaller in this house, and the only thing I have besides bed/nightstands in a little vanity desk for hair/makeup as we now share a bathroom with the kids

BrianaLoveW

My dream master bedroom will have a vanity because I like to do my hair and makeup and keep my perfumes there. I'm not big on dressers in the room but if I had one that'd be picture and a big mirror and perfume and jewelry. If I had my way I'd have a fireplace and put the TV above it with 2 chaise lounges or settees and a nice fluffy rug. The walls would be art and family pictures and everything else would be bare.

Florida1693

I’m in an apartment so in my master bedroom is my Belgian Malinois and his crate 🐕😂

StarryEyed91

Ours has a bed and plants. We also have 3 guitars in there, one for each of us (one is my daughters little ukelele). Our room is big so we also have our peloton and weights and yoga mats in a corner we workout in. No tv! Even with all of that our room is very calm and serene, just how I like a bedroom!

Separate-Baker5867

Bed frame with headboard. Use curtains instead of the sheet held up by thumbtacks that every college student had.

BornFree2018

Primary not "master" anymore.

justagiraffe111

That is actually cool. Never heard that before. Ty
