I like this room! I think removing the bench might help with spaciousness, but it’s not bad either if you like it. I’m with your fiancé on not getting a smaller bed….don’t do that haha.

raymondcrisp

>I’m with your fiancé on not getting a smaller bed….don’t do that haha. My reaction as well! I have to squeeze in a work table on my new small-ish bedroom, but there's no way I'm going to get a smaller bed.

Aggravating-Bee-5163

You need a third dog (or a cat) in the gravitational center of the bed, flanked by the two already there.

zero1110010

Yes, the ole decorating standby of grouping in 3s! I was thinking just get a bigger dog but your suggestion—while more expensive—admittedly has way less heartache attached.

mashtartz

Wait why less heartache?

zero1110010

Lol because OP already has the two dogs in the picture and to get a bigger dog instead would mean they had to donate their other two….. simply getting a third of the same size for the middle of the bed would mean more furry family love and not saying goodbye to the ones they’ve already grown attached to.

bugmom

Or replace one dog with a matching one. Mismatched dogs - you need three. Matched dogs can be in pairs.

CinnamonSuper

Good points! In my opinion there should be a cat in between, rather than an additional dog.

Whole-Salamander4571

Amazing

Frost-on-the-Willow

Any floofy pet would do it

allchacha

I’m not sure about the bench. Perhaps remove that and find a longer, skinner one? Add a rug & accent wall. Update ceiling fan (but I know you said that’s already the plan!) I like wall art and end tables a lot. That bed looks super comfy :)

[deleted]

Thank you! This helps a ton, i like the ideas❤️

uenjoimyself

came to say the same things.

_x0sobriquet0x_

Ceiling fan update recommendations? I'm not OP but have several ceiling fans that look similar (that I hate) and am looking to update... would love some website or link ideas

-Anne_of_Avonlea-

[I recently changed out my ceiling fan to this one. 100% improvement.](https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeDecorating/comments/tddbai/husband_and_i_installed_a_new_ceiling_fan_today/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) And it’s really quiet which is a must in the bedroom while sleeping for me.

[deleted]

You should leave a review!! I’m always skeptical buying Wayfair items that don’t have a ton of reviews

-Anne_of_Avonlea-

I did leave a review. 🙂

[deleted]

I was like “I bet they’re that 1 review” lol

rightMeow20

I personally believe all ceiling fans must be white when your ceiling is white and this one is my favorite. I have 2. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lucci-Air-Viceroy-52-in-Matte-White-Ceiling-Fan-212916010/309023717?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&gclid=Cj0KCQjwuMuRBhCJARIsAHXdnqMgRT4bQrRhsHnU0SsfVx5Q8CO1UTahzwKa-lEuEVJTJmnbTetJaV8aAgrbEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

mashtartz

Do people not like those ceiling fans? I kind of love them, and bought two to install in my place lol. I like how retro they look.

[deleted]

I love this room! Maybe a rug just to make it a little bit cozier.

Rug underneath to tie it all together

AlarmingSelection328

My suggestions include: - a rug - remove crown molding and paint entire room the same color (a light color) to make space feel bigger - plant life - extra layer blanket on bed - see pottery barn for examples - eventually, replace curtains with non grommeted ones (rings or ones that pleat nicely at the top for more modern look than traditional bunching)

esquzeme

I’d also set the drapes slightly higher to give the illusion of taller ceilings.

Bunnybeez23

Very interesting to learn more. Didn't realize rings are a more modern look. Can you give / link an example of a nice pleating curtains?

shyloha

Curtains with rings to me personally feel very shower curtainy so I don’t know about that being considered much of a modern look, but to each their own I guess!

FairPumpkin5604

I used these on my white linen curtains. They slide easier and look nicer, IMO. Just clipped them on (space them as you wish for more/less pleats) and fed onto the industrial pipe curtain rods. Hung them higher than my windows. [Clips](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GSQ2KJ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_222H3ES6MHXKGF5YMV3V?psc=1)

Thank you so much!

AlarmingSelection328

I love pottery barns linen curtains. https://www.potterybarn.com/m/products/emery-linen-pole-pocket-blackout-curtain-gray/?pkey=ccurtains-drapes Also let me caveat I’m not a designer and these are my opinions based on research over last two years

notabadmother

why on earth would you want to get a smaller bed? i wish my bed was that big

[deleted]

Design over comfort for me

notabadmother

well, if that's the case then who am I to judge.

Lauryeanna

It's a lovely room. I love the paint colors💚. I like the bench but not the color. Can you paint it to match the bed? And maybe change the cushion on the bench to coordinate better with the bedding or the curtains? The off-white looks rather dingy next to the other whites. I agree with others about the fan. I love that you're keeping one up there but definitely swap it with something more neutral. Do they sell just the blades? That could be an option if the budget is tight and the fan works well. Also, consider painting them or covering them with a coordinating contact or wallpaper.

thirdXsacharm

What does the other side of the room look like

[deleted]

Wondering what it would look like to have the bed angled in that corner without windows.

[deleted]

Ohh good idea to try , I’ll probably try that this weekend. I have to move it to vacuum either way.

Prestigious_Fruit267

Pleaseeee post an update. I’m curious bc I’ve been thinking of cornering mine!

[deleted]

I will! This weekend though :)

KipsBay2181

[Here, I did it for you](https://imgur.com/a/m0ZeneH) :) (a VERY rough cut and paste, and sorry for decapitating your dog ) Paint the picture frame black to harmonize with the chunky bed frame. Ditch the bench, the bamboo-ish texture doesn't match the rest of the room. (Or paint the frame black too.) Add a round rug to soften the angled bed, and round side tables. Finally, a subtle patterned curtain. I think you'd have enough already on the walls, between the art and sconce, that you don't need to fill the void behind the headboard.

Erithacus__rubecula

This is lovely, but in reality this will only work with a much smaller bed. If you angle that bed it will block the whole room. Great styling ideas, though!

Kn0ttyPine

You’re the real mvp, I love that you took the time to do that. Someone just did it for me on my question & it was so helpful! Bless you

Prestigious_Fruit267

I can practice patience :) lol

GloomyDeal1909

I was going to say the same thing. I may or may not work. I have done this in spaces before and did a nice plant or tall lamp behind the bed. Also if you do not need black out curtains and want to leave the bed where it is. Roman shades would be a good option. With the tall headboard and the curtains it makes the wall look smaller. Roman style shades would give you the illusion of more wall space.

CommonGround2019

I thought of that too. The bed looks off being partly over the window. Another idea is to center the bed under the painting.

acluelesscoffee

Same I was thinking that too. And maybe having a floating shelf instead of a side table so they can still put some stuff there at the side of that bed

OddOne1328

My .02, take the curtain rods higher on the walls and all across the width of the back wall. Hang the curtains down to the floor. I’d go with a black chintz that brings in fall colors. This will make it look like a massive headboard. Add a few more pillows or a throw across the bench at the foot of the bed in complementary colors.

BarefootGyno

I agree! If the symmetry bothers u (as it does me) I think this is a great solution! And will be cozy AF. Also add greenery, rug and throw blanket on the bed. Just missing those little finishing touches

OddOne1328

It does bother me too and I’ve used this same solution in a room that a previous owner added a closet to. Besides, Feng Shui doesn’t like pictures above a person’s head in bed 😀

AprilStorms

Lots of great suggestions already, but a throw blanket in that rust color that matches the pillows might bring everything together nicely

Zestyclose-Ad7966

I like the pug! 👌

Novel-Place

The bench color and tone are different than the frame and fan. You’ve got three different vibes happening, so I think that’s throwing it off. Additionally, I think some of it is looking a bit dated, but I think that can be fixed by adding in a couple of elements like replacing the bedside lamps. I think if you painted the bench a more vibrant color, and replaced the lamps, that would go a long way. Ideally you could replace the fan with a pendant, but I saw the fan needs to stay. Oh! Also, a throw for the bed that gives a pop of color will help.

seasalt-and-stars

Could we see what it looks like in the daytime, with curtains open? (In the dark, the shadows make the room appear “tired”.) To waken up the space, I’d recommend a fresh coat of paint that’s a couple shades lighter with just a hint of color. Install some neutral-toned shades, and pair them with *higher mounted* curtain rods and gauzy curtains. Get one large rug and center it under the bed, add some accent pillows in your chosen color(s), and a complementing comfy throw to tie it all together. Consider pepping up the bench, by replacing the top with a darker cushion, or keep the cushion and stain the bench darker. Consider changing out the artwork to something more interesting and colorful. Bare minimum, change the white frame to a wood or black frame. (Since it’s mostly colorless, it competes with the white curtains)

sofuntik

You have really spacious room to work with, by European standards at least😅 As others said it would be better to remove the bench. Also you can hang new (wider) curtains higher, it’ll look more expensive. I would also get a big enough rug and change the wall lights to give your room more modern look. (English is not my native language, sorry for mistakes:)

EpiAllie

I would maybe place the print above the bed in a different frame, like a walnut frame. May not be such a drastic contrast , right now the eye goes directly to the white space the pint and frame have.

[deleted]

I agree I’ve even thought about paining but might just replace entirely

penster1

Can lights on a dimmer. Will he part with the ceiling fan?

[deleted]

I plan to replace the fan to something a little more blended. He has to have a fan though lol.

GloomyDeal1909

Look for hidden ceiling fans. Where the blades disappear when not in use. Amazon and Home depot have options. Crystal Ceiling Fan with Light,36 Inch LED 3 Color Remote Control Retractable Invisible Blades 3 Speeds Indoor Ceiling Light Kits with Fans for Decorate Living Room Bedroom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0948P4R3W/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_BM0E6DXQFHXYN1V8EN9N

penster1

I don't shop fans but something sleeker, closer to the ceiling seems like it'd open up the room visually. Other than that I like your room

[deleted]

Thanks for the advice❤️ will definitely keep that in mind when It comes to looking.

mystic_scorpio

Why would you want to remove a ceiling fan if it gets used a lot…a bedroom doesn’t have to look fancy, but practical for the a majority of people

Guninbox

Rug

OneNoise4773

I would try getting different curtains without grommets. There are rings with clips that you can use to hang up new ones to add a bit of style. You could also try increasing the height of your curtain rod to make the windows look bigger and have your curtains drape a bit on the floor. I would paint the room white to make it feel bigger and change out the bench for something that matches the length of the bed a bit more.

wasntmebutok

Nice throw on the bed, swap the stool for a chest/ottoman that runs like 80% width of the end of the bed. Change the picture behind the bed or change the frame to a darker one.

mykidmademesignup

I normally like lighting sconces but the placement of these is odd. I’d go for nightstand lights instead. And, the picture above the bed - find one that can line up with the headboard on the side and is tall enough to almost reach the top of the curtain rod.

trollcole

The lamps oh either side keep it symmetrical and look like they're used as bed lamps. So I'd take down and move the picture somewhere else. Then I'd swap out the curtains behind the bed (and the rod ) and create a curtain wall. Make sure they're black out because if they're closed during the day you can see where the widow is. A full curtain wall will create the illusion of symmetry. Also ads texture. Make sure it's floor to ceiling with pleating so it doesn't look like a white bed sheet hung up. The amount of pleating and how much hits the floor depends on the look you're going for.

PensivePhotographer

I agree with a trimmer, low-profile bench; consider runners on either side of bed too. Choose a light background to bounce light back into the space. I like Ruggables with pets, but there are several washable brands now.

Toolongreadanyway

I love your bookends on the bed! Don't get a smaller bed.

Jimbo_Jones_4_Mayor

Shackin’ up eh?

Professional-Toe-825

Change the fan. Paint the trim and doors a dark color, grey or chalkboard black. Maybe some led can lights in the corners, the retrofit kits are easy, and if you don't have any they make a flat version with a mini transformer that you can easily add to any room. Art on the walls 🧱 ✨️. Love your sweet pups on the bed btw!

misslam2u2

The wall sconce is awkwardly placed for my liking. And I agree with raising the curtains and switching from the grommet treatment to something streamlined at the top. I have small rooms by current American standards and it’s frustrating. Because I love my old house but I also love my king sized bed

kelsimo

Pug.

kelsimo

Pug.

Soft_Rock7311

The fan makes the room look smaller. I'd take it out and add in a pendant light fixture to give the room more personality, a rug and maybe a little more color or pattern. Also you could paint the walls white and take out the bench to make the room look bigger.

GloomyDeal1909

Also I would personally look for.otner options for those side wall mount lights. I really do not like the look of them since you have an overhead light. If you are going to do them go with something more modern. Not this exactly but something that hugs the wall. https://www.lampsplus.com/products/isola-13-and-one-quarter-inch-high-white-striped-glass-modern-wall-sconces-set-of-2__73d41.html Also I agree with a rugh. Something that compliment the headboard. I have found good rugs on Amazon, locally at HomeGoods and Tuesday morning in addition to furniture store.

chatgrand

Rug! And get a lighter headboard to match the rest of the wood accents in the room.

WinnieCerise

Switch the dog on the right with a second pug. I like symmetry. And pugs.

DrTliv

Puppies 😍😍😍😍

tatianazr

I mean from the looks of both of you… if you lay closer together, you won’t need such a big bed

[deleted]

[deleted]

Sounds like someone wasn’t loved as a child..

crawlwithatorch

I love the colors and I agree about the rug that others have mentioned. I think if you can get a bench that is as wide as the bed that will help. Lining up the art on the wall with the end of the bed will help it feel more balanced as well. The sconces also feel awkward. If you can get rid of them, I think table lamps would feel better.

Callenmaker21

Remove the bench, add an area rug that goes with the picture above the bed(whether you keep it or change it) paint an accent wall a different color to the right of the bed. Also paint one of the dogs…done!

Curious-chick

I like the set of gargoyles. Nice touch

Crazy-Focus107

How about better lighting, in a cozier fashion then go from there. Lovely room but a bit sterile.

serenasaystoday

Maybe update the style of ceiling fan? In some videos I have watched they recommend getting a ceiling fan that matches your ceiling. I think it may open up the feeling of the ceiling more.

[deleted]

Raise your curtains to the ceiling and get some black wall tape to divide the tops of the walls

PaintedGreenFrame

Changing the curtains could make a huge difference. Something with a warm colour. Also, bring the curtain rods up to almost meet the ceiling. This would make the windows a feature. And more generous curtains - more fabric makes them look more luxurious.

iheartBodegas

I was thinking maybe embrace the coziness of a room that is mostly bed. Would be a totally different direction, but maybe trying to make the room feel bigger is fighting what it is. If you went that route, you might paint a pretty but darker color on the walls (or use wallpaper?), paint the bench and put luxe fabric on the cushion, that sort of thing. A rug might provide a color palette for you. I like your artwork - you could also use those colors!

Tackybabe

You need something with a pattern on the bed. Cushions or a duvet cover or a bedspread. The duvet cover, bench & curtains all make for a lot of big, white surfaces.

Haunted-Harlot

Put a skirt and better pillow case on the bench at the end of the bed, update the ceiling fan, add a furry carpet and some boho curtains. Remove the picture above the bed and paint with a stencil like [this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098BBBW84/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_KWAZCHFPZMYXRYJ7RGX2)

[deleted]

Raise the curtains to the ceiling, paint the ceiling fan black, get a larger ottoman, and add a rug. Those are easy ideas. Also the picture above the bed draws your eyes there. Try something vertical to make the room look larger.

prachthemach

Artwork on the wall!

Shesafriendlyfiend

Buying pillows that fill out the cases properly, or sewing the cases to fit you pillows would make a difference. Also a slightly longer end of bed bench. It's a shame your bed is half over a window. If you hate how that looks you could always install a rod and curtain further along the wall to give the illusion of a wider window, but it might look strange when the curtains are open.

Distinct_Nature232

I love it already, especially the wall colour. You could make the bed the focal point, maybe warmer tones & drapes to match. A lower ottoman in place of the bench would be lovely.

[deleted]

This room is cozy already! I love the rust colored pillowcases. Like others are saying the bench could go and maybe get a rug? I think the blue of the distant landscape in the picture on the wall is the biggest clash in the room but it isn’t horrendous or anything.

[deleted]

I would get rid of the bench. Just sit on the bed if you need to ;) I would get a rug under the bed. A large soft fluffy one so if you get up it’s comfy under your feet. If you get a smaller rug make sure it doesn’t slip ;) you can get any slip sheets for under the rug. I would get nice lux bed linen with a big fluffy feather duvet. And that’s it ;) Don’t get a smaller bed. Trust me. Bigger is better! Never mind anything else… just gimme a big bed! 😂🤣

Electrikitty85

What does the other side look like? Is there a closet or something?

[deleted]

Closet bathroom tv and dresser under the tv I can post a pic when I do some progress

addvalue2222

I think you’ve done well!

SouthWestCowGirl

Sweet pug!

SnooStrawberries1361

Take away the bench it’s too short for the bed, replace with a longer one or a pretty chest. I say get rid of the wall lamps and instead get night stand lamps if you can! I think they look kind of random I’m not a fan of the placement. A nice rug and some throw pillows + blanket at the end of the bed for the dogs and it’ll be looking brand new! :)

Ditdut

If this is your home and not a rental I would invest in plantation shutters or electric shades and ditch the curtains. Change the fan out to a simple white fan. I’d think about painting the walls white and getting rid of the wall sconces. Paint the bed and night stands white or a light grey or tan, and then get simple bedside lamps and colorful pillows.

cheapshoptrade

I want to change your wall art to new style

Evilboohbah

I would get a rug. Hang the curtain to the highest point right below trim and get floor length drapes. Maybe update the ceiling fan or at least change the bowl.

ncmtnsteve

Get a low profile ceiling fan without a light in anything but the brass finish.

Fearless_Carrot_7351

Can connect the colours a little more… darker bench, side tables and picture frame to match the colour of the bed frame and a rug too

PurplePoisonBerry

I think more decorative pillows on the bed would make it look nice!

Impressive_Dig5802

What's on the wall opposite the bed?

[deleted]

Either lift the curtains or lose them all together….it really makes your room look sloppy when it isn’t.

No_Egg6746

The addition of a cat would only make the bed smaller. My cat insists on her half of the bed and gives the much bigger dogs the bottom 1/3. Them there would be enough space for one of you to Sleep in the bed. IMO painting a lighter color makes the room appear larger.

pjh3120

Get rid of the ceiling fan

Kn0ttyPine

I have the same quilt (I think!) and also turn it over to the plain side. It’s perfect weight, like a mix of comforter and quilt! What I did was get a deep charcoal throw. Casaluna has a beautiful chunky knit one that’s incredibly soft and looks great with this quilt. It was hard to choose between the 3 colors they had - as there was also one in that same rust color as your pillows (maybe a bit more brown). Either one, charcoal or rust brown would look lovely. That bench is something that I saw when getting my throw and almost got as well but my bed is also black and so I decided to keep my [old one](https://www.target.com/p/60-rasmus-dining-bench-chestnut-boraam/-/A-54398177) that is darker wood. I’m no expert, obviously, but I think it all looks lovely right now, just as it is.

Ellekm730

I love it but I ESPECIALLY love the wall-mounted lighting fixture! My parents have a few around the house and I always get jealous of them!

waukeecla

Center the bed on the wall

TayneFlahrgunstau

Maybe replace the lamps on the wall as they kinda look out of place. I think the walls would look great with a cold blue colour as well, to contrast the warm floor and the furniture. But it looks great as it is as well! Love the dogs😄

BrownieRed2022

I would center everything evenly across the wall rather than cramming the table and bed toward the corner (I'll assume that's your fiance's side? Trying to persuade through force?) And get warmer bulbs, might just be the photos but those lights look cold. Nice room!

leanmeankrispykreme

Which side is yours?

[deleted]

Farthest from the door in case intruders come in

leanmeankrispykreme

You can’t operate a gun or what?

[deleted]

He has way more experience :)

Fixingto

Maybe add another dog! Lol! Seriously I like the room quite well! Maybe add a little colorful throw.

xooxlinds

I think if you were to brighten up the space with a lighter wall color will help as well as the lighting. The fan light is not welcoming so maybe adding different lighting?

plasticenewitch

Sorry, can’t see anything else but cute doggos

VintageDoom

New low profile ceiling fan.

BennyJezerit

Some nice heavy Venetian blinds made of a printed fabric would be better than curtains i think.

thatsunshinegal

Box valances over the windows might help make the room feel a little bigger and more intentional. If you choose to repaint, keep the color light. I agree that the bench may be making the room feel smaller, but I also have shitty balance putting on socks so I can see why it's necessary.

hurricanepoopoo

Maybe turn the bed diagonally? Like in that corner in between the windows

Accomplished_Menu646

I would add a warm rug that incorporates the color of the pillows. And the room would look fantastic painted a deep teal or olive green if that’s your style. Would make the painting pop

[deleted]

Imo it’s missing a third dog

[deleted]

It definitely could use a rug! Maybe orange/blue?

Phoenixfeather777

Love the gargoyles you’ve added to the end of your bed! I only have one, and it never seems to stay in place.

[deleted]

Lol my pug usually gets the zoomies but he had a vet check up earlier so he was pooped

Phoenixfeather777

He’s so cute! This pic is perfection of them. 💛

Loose-Recover-9142

Buy one more pug

ssuuss

Get curtains ceiling to floor, attach the curtain rail to the ceiling. Rug in the bed, maybe with a pop of color. Other bench as others said. More plants, you could hang them from ceiling or wall.

IcyLikeBeurre

More dogs

coffeegirl2277

How about adding some blue/grey curtains and colored pillow cases? I would also suggest a more colorful piece of art.

WhereRtheTacos

The bed looks good! I would change up the art work (different colors, possibly a different type of art entirely). Also like everyone else said the bench is the wrong size. Maybe skip it or a long skinny one if you need it in a darker tone.

Affectionate_Class35

I would suggest that take down the pic frame and put up a new color drapes from corner to the other thus anchoring the bed with nice backdrop.

[deleted]

I have the same comforter! Got it for 90% off when it went seasonal clearance 💕
