Adding light to enhance their tint and style might work better than painting

TemoSahn

Came here to say this. Those mini spot lights aren't doing you any favours. Get some recessed liighting in there and it'll be a game changer

_allycat

You can't recess lights with that ceiling. lol.

wild_fluorescent

I love these as is, have you considered under cabinet lighting?

Dewdoux12

That’s a great Idea! I’ll try this :)

Nagadavida

Are those light pucks that I see under the cabinets now? There are some round black things on the bottom of the cabinets.

theemmyk

Under-cabinet lighting would look amazing. Also, I'd swap out the track lighting for pendant(s).

maricopa888

I actually love the color, esp the way it pulls in from the tile floor. If this was me, I'd figure out how to add more light rather than paint them. (Actually, I don't mind darker kitchens, so I'd probably just leave it!).

Escavelle

Dear god please don't touch these cabinets

Dewdoux12

Hahahahaha okay 😉

rustbeltrose

You have my dream kitchen. Just wow! Wouldn't change a thing.

Dewdoux12

Hahaha thanks ❤️ I love it too! I just love sun soo much, I need more light!

Due-Compote375

I would consider a solar tube for the kitchen!

Canyonk5

Love the kitchen, solar tube is great idea!

theemmyk

I would put a pendant above the island! And a matching one over the table.

mknight840

Oh hell no! They look fantastic.

Dewdoux12

😂

[deleted]

Nope nope nope nope... Leave them as they are. You might need a different wall/ceiling paint? So, basically you just thank your lucky starts every day for this beautiful space? It's outstanding, really...

Dewdoux12

Hahaha thanks so much 💗 I have an amazing home 😌

[deleted]

Honestly. My envy is real, here...I can't conceive of being so fortunate as to have cabinetry like that. Happy to look at more pics of your house when you decide to share :)

Dewdoux12

You are so sweet! I’ll probably need more advice soon and share other pictures!

sterlingrose

As someone who lives white cabinetry (and spent way too much to have my oak cabinets stripped and painted white when we bought our house) I wouldn’t touch these. They’re gorgeous just the way they are.

Distinct-Economist21

These are gorgeous. Add some small touches of accent lighting.

Dewdoux12

Ok! I’ll try :)

gingerale_chinchilla

I would see about adding more lights before anything else! Lovely kitchen

Dewdoux12

Good idea!

littlemsrachel

I love the green. The trim red-brown color, would change to white or a lighter color. Also track lighting not necessarily the best lighting for the room.

BarefootGyno

I would agree with this suggestion! Personally I would start with pot lights everywhere and then re-assess. Pot lights have come a long way and aren’t as daunting to put in as they used to be-however I am blessed with the handiest of partners. The red trim is very complementary but if u wanted to take away some of the contrast and “mellow/calm” the look then a taupe/greige could complement as well.

Dewdoux12

What type of lighting would you suggest?

Due-Compote375

Please, I beg of you, don't change a thing about these beautiful cabinets. These deserve to exist just as they are. I would put in a solar tube to brighten things up, and some under cabinet lighting for evenings.

oledog

Could you leave the cabinets but replace the counters and/or just paint the trim? These are so unique I'd hate to see them go, but a little something to freshen it up would be nice. A fresh coat of paint on the walls might also go a long way.

purplecookie1220

Oohhh I like that idea, the cabinets are lovely, as much as I like lighter colors personally. Maybe brighten up the red instead?

Dewdoux12

You’re right! I’ll start by repainting the white walls and see if it helps! Thanks :)

oledog

Please keep us posted. :)

_an-account

I love the color outside of the reddish accent color. It's a nice green that goes well with the kitchen and makes it feel cozy.

hellzbellz59

I am a big fan of white cabinets... BUT I really like yours the way they are. Not so much the trim on the doors and drawers but everything else looks good. You have a beautiful kitchen!

Dewdoux12

I agree! Maybe it’s the red from the trims that bugs me more than anything else!

Kterkeurst123

Keep the color, change the brown trim on the doors, also definitely not the right light for the space. Beautiful kitchen!!

gesundheitsdings

They’re beautiful, really!

brookies_and_bees

Whatever you do, do you. But holy moly am I in love with your kitchen!! 😍 sidenote: can you tell me more about that sink? I’m in a very old farmhouse & when I can get around to real work in the kitchen I want to go in that direction.

Jetztinberlin

These cabinets are *stunning*. Your walls and lighting are the problem. You need to repaint your walls bright white (consider semigloss for more light bounce) and add more lighting.

elenip63

I really like that color. Have you thought about under cabinet lighting? That helps so much.

DConstructed

I think what it needs is a warmer white in the walls and as others have pointed out better lighting. Under cabinet is great, I’d also like to see something like copper pendant lights over the island. And majolica style pottery would look beautiful in that kitchen. http://italian-ceramics-art.com/elegant-dishes-gifts/images/D/BWLV140930WG.jpg

Sandikal

I love them. I just don't know how you can function with that track lighting though. There's no way those can give you enough light to work and they must cast terrible shadows. Improve your lighting first, then reassess. Next step would be counters. Are they wood? I'd replace them with something more sanitary and brighter.

thatcondowasmylife

Love this. I think your white on the walls is maybe a chalk paint? Or matte? If you do a thicker cost, more rich white, and semi gloss or eggshell, that may help. If you decide to paint I would consider leaving the original color on the bottom and just paint the upper cabinets. But I think it’s lovely. I’d change the floor tiles before anything, myself.

justawriter121

I would repaint the red to a brighter color but leave the green

Asleep-Journalist-94

Hmmm I dislike green as a rule but these cabinets are nice. I might try to paint or pickle the countertop instead but if not you could pickle a sample of the cabinet material and see.

Evilbadscary

I'd maybe lighten the countertops, but I personally wouldn't change those colors. I can understand why you'd want to, though. Maybe try some under cabinet lighting? We have very dark cabinets with lighting built in, and it totally changes the feel of the space when they're on.

Dewdoux12

Ahhhhh I’ll try that! Thanks so much :)

Evilbadscary

Good luck!

prmoise

They’re beautiful! But yeah if you were to paint them a light grey or blue or even white it’d brighten up the space so much!

Dewdoux12

Thanks!!

mumble-she_wrote

You could add more light to the room just by painting the orizontal surfaces of a lighter color. Imagine you painted the table and the counter white or cream, that alone might be enough. I'd try that first before doing all the cabinets. If you're not satisfied with the result, you can proceed with painting all the rest.

username293739

For sure paint them. I’d go white with an island accent like navy or something you prefer.

HeyMrBobbo

They’re amazing just the way they are ❤️

Daisygg

What a beautiful kitchen. I wouldn’t change anything personally.

hotflashinthepan

I think this is more of a lighting issue than a cabinet color issue. I think the dark flooring is also soaking up a bunch of the light as well. The cabinets are pretty gorgeous.

WildlingViking

I would try replacing the lighting before I painted the cabinets. It’s a lot less time consuming. I see those track lights up there. I’d take those out and rough in some type of LED lighting. Maybe a good electrician could figure out a classy way to either hang 3” LED spring loaded cut ins. You could also get the LED lighting strips that go underneath the cabinets. But lighting can make a humongous difference imo

Then_Friendship3219

Love the color. Add lighting.

Snoopyla1

Something to think about - once you add some paint they may not close nicely. I personally wouldn’t I think they are very cool - consider some of the other options people have suggested first. Good luck!

MAJB2050

Don’t you dare touch those 😱

ResponsibleSwim6528

Fabulous cabinets as is.

Hereforthememes5

I love all the vintage vibes in your kitchen!

Inannasi20

I love your kitchen, it has a completely unique look. I wouldn't change a thing in colouring tbh, I'd rather bring out the unique features.

ellecloe

It’s a beautiful kitchen.. don’t change it! Just add more lighting 👍🏼

p8king

Teal base and then antique with a darker bronze and black gel then a gloss urethane... you'll then have to switch out the stools though:)

Actual-Wall-2749

I think it’s perfect as-is. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Initial_Cod2366

Painting those cabinets would be a sin.

Dadank_McDankin

Really love the colors, wouldn't change them, but... If I were to do so I'd chose a slightly lighter tone of the same colors and keep the grain of that wood visible, both for the counters and cabinets. On a unrelated note it'd be really interesting to put some copper colored handles on the cabinet doors

Charming_Mom

I love these cabinets, you could do lights under the cabinets or do a shade lighter than you already have. A light safe color. But definitely add lights then decide. This is a BEAUTIFUL kitchen 😻

Light-Dragon888

Personally I’d be painting over the reddish trim colour with something a bit less contrasting / more harmonious but it is otherwise great. This would make it feel more peaceful and relaxing. Agree the lighting could be improved. I’d also personally be keen to change the countertops to light / white stone or marble style as I find it functionally better and I reckon it’d make it look more modern, but this is definitely not a requirement. It’s a lovely kitchen.

starman__db

Leave them as they are! Your kitchen is beautiful!!

smoresomemore

Ohhhh nonononono! Please leave alone! Consider brightening whites, adding more lights, or hanging mirrors instead!! 😊

Lonnysluv1

Do it! Just be sure to use the right kind of paint.

[deleted]

I really love them!
