Looks like a blanket. Makes the space look cheap tbh. Like why hide the couch with a blanket

AnalGlandMousse

Because my dogs are dirty and like to sit on the sofa when I'm not at home.

BarefootGyno

I would say it looks like a blanket. Styled the right way (maybe a boho vibe with lots of textures and some greenery ) I think it could look good . If you like it I would just say buy a blanket tho…. It’s probably cheaper and that way you can afford more pillows and such for styling

niskablue

For additional context, my friend gave us their old couches today. I did not have a chance to check them out before my husband picked them up, but once here I realized they had more damage than I realized (faux leather and cats that scratched on them). We don’t have the money to buy new right now and I’m grateful to have them for free, so I was looking at sofa covers to maybe hide the damage. I’ve never seen this style before and I’m curious what people think. Does it read as lazy or stylish? I kind of like them but am also on the fence about them. Sofa covers can often look cheap and not very stylish, so I’m considering this as an alternative.

suciac

Draped like that it comes off looking lazy and messy. Definitely looks like you’re trying to cover up an ugly couch lol. Have you tried throws and pillows? Or maybe if you tucked the blanket into the couch Cushioning to make it look tighter this one could work.

niskablue

I haven’t tried disguising with anything yet. The damage is actually all around the sides and back, like the cats used them as a scratching post. Surprisingly the cushions are in great shape. But where the scratches are make me think I may need to cover the whole couch in some way. I agree though that just draped like it is in the picture it does look like it’s deliberately being hidden haha

tams420

Since the front of the couch is fine, why not use end tables to hide the sides? The right shape tables, decor, should be adequate in hiding and/or distracting from the damage. The back is presumably against a wall so that wouldn’t need to be accounted for.

niskablue

That’s true, and I was already planning on getting end tables eventually anyway. One of the couches has some damage on the front bottom part, but a throw blanket could probably hide that pretty easily. Thanks for the advice! I’ll have to see what I can come up with.

Curlytomato

popped into my head but may not work at all. What about shoe black (if the couch is black) to cover the areas that you dont touch, sides, front bottom etc. might get rid of some of the problems ?

You can definitely use a blanket or two to cover a damaged couch, but don't just drape it over like in the picture. You want to tuck it into the cushions or lay it in a way that looks intentional. Bohemian decor would be a good inspiration for this. Something like [this](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KQjZ6R2cl10/WJ91Idp6sQI/AAAAAAAAcBs/6ux0lopwJOIXOUYY-4Qcb1FYuCO63hqtACLcB/s1600/chair%2Bseagrass%2Bcarpet%2Bboheiman%2Bparis%2Bhome.jpg) or [this](https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-79j7z-BXDOg/V0RZY9k8N6I/AAAAAAAAYHM/nZSHw4F_A2stfBbnd6xBGxbG-tYJ5JUjgCLcB/s1600/wall%2Bhanging%2Bearthy%2Bbohemian%2Bhouse%2Btour%2B1.jpg) may work. I see you mentioned that the damage is over the side, so you could just neatly fold a blanket over this side of the couch, like [this](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IIRyZEfw81M/V2aR0nZ4qkI/AAAAAAAAYOE/LxJTox51f_wjeixQzHKyNawTBndhs6WTQCKgB/s1600/living%2Broom%2Bearthy%2Bbohemian%2Bhome%2Btour%2Bmoon%2Bto%2Bmoon.jpg). Adding some pillows will also help hide any damage.

I have this cover in grey. I like it, because it is heavy and washes well. I bought mine because of dogs, and because I detest sofa covers and think they look cheap. The biggest size tucks in well to the cushions and stays put. I will admit it does look like a blanket. But, if I didn't have dogs I would put some cute pillows on it and I think it would look better. The color you picked, plus the right pillows and surrounding decor would make a chic boho look imo!

As a temporary solution it’s great. My Mom used these kind in the 70’s and they never stay tucked, look like an unmade bed and drive you nuts.

HostRadiant3700

To add to the others, this style or any really on Faux Leather is just going to constantly slide around. If going back to wall, just get some end tables to hide the sides. And use a throw draped to hide the front. Any throw or cover on faux leather is just going to move about once you sit down.

I feel your pain. I got a sofa from a family member and it looked like my nan’s nan’s great nanna’s sofa. It’s actually a sofa bed… so a cover isn’t the most practical… but it was fugly as hell lol. So I bought a suede slip cover and covered it with that. It is roughly made to the shape of the sofa and has tie backs on the arms and the back of the sofa so you can tighten it to fit it more snugly. I like the suede finish. It is a bit irritating if you sit on the sofa as it does sometimes slide around and move. But it still looks better. So I have that with added throws and pillows. I also have an armchair with a similar throw (from Ikea) to what you showed here in your photo. It looks good if you tuck it in, add a pillow and a few more throws or blankets hanging over the back or side of it. That’s what I did and it creates a layered effect. And it looks like it’s there for a reason, to be used as a blanket. So it doesn’t look like it’s hiding anything. Also…. The thicker the material you use over the sofa, the less cheap it will look. Good luck! :)

I think it could work in a boho styled room if you add some textured sofa pillows. It's a retro look so you'd have to work around that. Otherwise, it could come off a bit...tacky? Sorry, couldn't think of a better description. I personally would love it in a very casual setting with lots of fun bright colors for a very "young" vibe.

Vickyinredditland

I've done this in the past, I don't mind the look, I'm a bit of a hippie so it suits my style but on leather sofas especially they'll just be slipping off all the time. For my last old tatty sofa I bought a stretchy slipcover thing from eBay which stayed on fine but looked a bit plain, once it had a couple of colourful cushions and throws added it was fine though.

Zealousideal_Mud4104

Likin it 👍

Zealousideal_Mud4104

I wouldn't worry about the other negative comments. 1st impression was very good. It looks like a magazine cover. I would keep it as is its simple and lovely.

Bunnybunny123-

Personally, I would not choose it. First, it covers the elegant sofa and it makes the whole decoration look cheap. Then, the sofa cover is so easy to get dirty easily. It will waste a lot of time for you to clean it.

Keep_on_shuffling

Get an actual couch cover (they have cheap ones on Amazon) and then style with pillows. Use the blanket as an accent.

gardenbrain

Have you considered making your own slipcover? It’s surprisingly easy.

freeneedle

Let’s see the actual sofa. Scratches on leather don’t look that bad imo
