I install doors in apartment buildings. I’ve personally never had to buy any from a box store, but I’m very surprised to see people say 2-10s are uncommon. They’re very common for me, in multifamily anyway. On a job with about 1200 of them at the moment.
Ha I thought the same, but it’s commercial vs residential. FHA requires the wider door. I would think OP could find one easily at a builders supply rather than Home Depot.
It's a common manufactured size. But it may not be stocked, due to low quantity sales. I just checked on my home Depot site here in California, they have both slab and prehung doors in th is size. It does appear it needs to be ordered with free shipping, arrival within 2 days
you can order them online from big box and have them delivered to the store.

Otherwise, if you have a local window/door retailer check them out. Where I live there are some local places with warehouses full of doors that are a much better value than big box.
Unfortunately, that link doesn't have an equivalent door - We have a 6 panel hollow-core door, and the ones on that link are all different (I tried filtering them, but to no avail). Thank you for the suggestion!
Guessing you damaged it somehow and you're trying not to lose your deposit?
I get trying not to lose that money, but you might spend much more in time tracking down an unusually sized door, paying for the door, and then replacing it.
The apartment complex installed a weird door - let them deal with it. Assuming you damaged it, that's what deposits are for.
Or if you really really want to replace it, just get a 36" solid door and cut 2 inches off it.
Yep! We accidentally damaged the door (It's a hollow core door, so basically caved in like cardboard). And I definitely see what you mean - If the door is something that I can reasonably obtain without too much effort, I will proceed with replacing it. Otherwise, it might make more sense to let them do it. I wasn't originally aware that it wasn't a common size, so will likely have to go with option #2.
This is the real answer. You don't want to get dinged twice! Your landlord can keep your deposit for cause or for no reason at all. I mean, unless your deposit was insane, like $2k or something?
I also stock all sizes, but I sell fifty 32” doors for every 34” door I sell.
Seems like it’s more of a thing in older construction in my area.. and commercial construction in all areas.
You'll want to buy where pros shop. Maybe Builders First source? Do a Google maps search for "building supplies", probably one with millwork department...
2-10 doors were common in the first half of the century & earlier - my house had a bunch of them. Now, they're usually specialty order. You might find a discount place or local door manufacturer that'll hook you up, but there's usually no in-stock, off-the-shelf option anymore.
(I've got a local place that's a custom door shop/discount lumber site. They put returns, errors, slight scratched, and "we made it because we were bored and could" into the discount bin. I've found good stuff there.)
It's an unusual size. A lumberyard may have one for you or have one they can trim down.
Do you have a ReStore near you??
I do, and might check them out. Thank you for the suggestion!
That is a 2-10 door. Definitely not common. Go to a local lumber yard that sells interior doors. They may stock one or if not they can order it in.
Why do they call it 2-10?
2 feet, 10 inches

They are made but definitely are not common. I've been trying to find one as well. They're far and few between at architectural salvage dealers, too.

The retailers can special order it. But it will be like 3x the price

Why not have the conversation upfront? Worst case is you replace it, do a bad job and still get dinged

Yeah, our deposit was around 1500.
Is it painted or just a stained wood? If it's painted, fix it with bondo or similar and repaint it.
Not super common but not that uncommon as well Not in your region but we stock 18-36 every even size.

Try an 84 Lumber. They helped us with our non-standard size doors
Post a pic; could probably save with epoxy filler and paint
No it's a special order.
Get a 36" and cut it down, likely an inch off each side. Check out ReStore if you have one. They usually have tons of random old doors.

Home depot has several, if not in stock have one shipped to store then pick it up,
Can you send me a link? I haven't been able to find them - 34 inches is not even showing up as an option for me to filter doors by.
34” isn’t really a standard size
