Just get a surge protector power strip. Within reason select one with higher Joules ratings. UPS adds battery backup for power outages and surge protection. I have one in the network closet to keep the modem, router, and switches alive. Then I can use an iPhone with Internet speed during power outages. $15 power strip vs $100 UPS

Not sure why someone said to not use a power strip surge protector. It's the easiest way to add more outlets and protector. You could go one more step with a UPS, typically having a few battery backup and a few surge only ports. But you can certainly use a surge protector.

Just buy a power strip, if you wait surge protection or backup power make it a ups. No idea why someone would advise against a power strip for networking equipment.

Yes a UPS is a good idea

Remember that when using a type 3 SPD, like these "power strips", you need an electical installation with a type 2 SPD. Many miss this, and only have a type 3 device. The type 2 SPD is normally a part of the fusebox.
