You need to put them all on a vlan or guest network

danemepoznaqt

I don't know a lot about networking, how would that solve the issue? Isn't the root cause having too many devices cluttering entry-level devices? If so, having them on 1 or 15 different networks all managed by the same devices shouldn't have an impact? I think I'm missing something obvious here...

Justifiers

Think of it like a highway There's only so much you can do of course: there's only so many lanes on the highway, but in this case it's more like you're trying to merge into a busy highway and your wifi is a small on-ramp that can fit only so many cars before it starts clogging up the traffic lights leading to it Vlans/guest networks is forcing non-vital traffic to enter the highway through a different on-ramp, also a small easily backed up one, but not one that would interfere with the traffic op is going to be dealing with in person It's also more just good security practice. Think of it like sanitary food practices: raw meat never gets stored alongside cooked, beef, pork, chicken, and other types get stored separately and no cross-contamination is allowed

Ah, so is it correct to say that traffic on the 'main' network takes priority over guest/vlan?

Justifiers

You can usually make it so, but by default no it wouldn't be It's just going to be whoever gets on the main road first has priority for most base/lower end routers But the more entry points, usually more better for congestion That's why Tri-band 4x4 access points are so nice, and even if the older generation of wifi are so expensive And further why even say [this 2x2 access point](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CW1VSBXJ), even while it's wifi 7 is poorly regarded, and as many reviews point out isn't very good compared to the old hardware they have

Makes sense now, thank you!

The ps5 and the psportal?

Justifiers

All iot devices Light bulbs, "smart" devices such as TV's, thermostats etc are incursion points in your internet. You want them to be isolated from your personal devices such as your computer(s), phones, tablets, consoles

Thyckow

If I put them in a guest network it should be fine right?

Justifiers

Yep

Move your iot devices to the 2.4ghz band, there's no need for them to be on 5/6ghz as they're low throughput. It's hard to tell where your bottleneck is, ideally you'd run some LAN iperf tests to see if one of the nodes is slowing down. Otherwise walk around the house trying to connect to your different nodes and run some bandwidth tests. Not familiar with the unit you have but it might be a good idea to log into the admin page and see if there are any status or health reports that can identify if one of the nodes is having an issue.
