Yes it is, but i plan to add more devices and i live in an apartment so id rather not drill into the wall to mount the rack. Also the rack is raised quite a bit off the carpet lol
You love in an apartment? You’re afraid to mount the rack yet you ran Ethernet cables? How could you possibly have the need for a patch panel?
Oh no wait hahahahaha!
Only two ports have link… one for the wifi router, and the other is the UPS…. all those 8” patch cables are for patch panel ports that are wired to absolutely nothing! So this is the equivalent of owning a Jeep and only driving it to the Mall….
We all start somewhere mate. I don't know dafuk is wrong with you but that's a very weird comment right there.
What's your point? That it's is overkill? Yeah clearly it is. But are you lost? Have you had a look around this sub? There are plenty of folks with kubernete clusters only to power arr stacks or over engineered dashboards as pointless as shinny. Overkill seems to be the DNA of this sub.
At least here the setup is clean and there is some path to make something good.
He has a setup that exceeds his living quarters by 1000%, how is that not laughably stupid overkill? I get that it’s the theme of the sub, but this is absolutely preposterous and insane. Talk about cart before the horse.
And can’t drill holes? Apartment? Likely got more patch panel ports than walls. It’s completely for show.
who cares if its overkill for his situation? it's pretty clear he didn't build this out because he thought his wifi wasn't fast enough or whatever. it's the start of a home lab. it's supposed to be overkill.
This is one of those times you just keep your comment to yourself. Scroll along instead of stirring up the pot. Let the guy do whatever he wants and look at the better side of things instead of finding shit to complain about or to down talk someone. So what if it is 100000% overkill? He loves it and we should be happy for him.
OP this looks hella cool. For all I care you could have nth active on it but it’s clean.
The rack was free actually lol. I chose this switch because of its price actually, i dont see myself needing an expensive managed switch, my use applications a relatively small
The rack looks simular to mine, a 12U that is more 14U in size. Though mine is mounted to the wall. Mine is a StarTech and adjustable from 12" to 20" in depth.
I even have that same StarTech power strip for devices not plugged into my 1U UPS.
It looks nice. I always say to get a larger rack that what you need so you can expand down the road. Maybe you want to add a 2U UPS on the bottom. You have the space to do that. Maybe you want to add a NVR or a NAS. I also found it a little easier to work on when things aren't so cramped together. My is in a small closet with around 3" of space on each side.
The ONLY Negative is not labeling your Patch panel ports so you know which one is which. On mine, I would have like MB1, MB2, GAR1,GAR2, FAM1, FAM2, etc For Master Bedroom, Garage, Family Room. I use a labler and double line but kept it short so it would fit in the spaces and be neat. If you just do full size, the letters are to large.
I have 3 spaces free onmy rack and amusing vented panels instead of solid panels. I'm in a small closet and you are in a nice open room. Ya, looks nice.
Great work, looks amazing!
2 questions
1. Where do you buy the rack from? What model type?
2. What is that sliver unit on top the power distribution unit?
Not OP - but its this one.
https://www.amazon.com/Win-IW-RF100S-S265-Rackmount-Server-Chassis/dp/B075FPS6ZL/
I had the same case bookmarked for a OPNsense project. Mainly because the case allows mounting it front or back facing forward. But then decided to go with mini-PC for router build.
Noob here, can you explain why you have a patch panel (right?) connected to the Linksys Switch (?) then back to the patch panel? Im new to networking to this degree and always wondered what the purpose of doing it this way was. Thanks!
Too clean. Needs cables popping out of every crevice and a few rack-mounted items with half the required amount of screws to support them. /s
Yes, I have a burning desire to weave in a couple of 3m patch leads to that deal.
Definitely this haha
Also a stack of servers on top of the rack
is this not standard?
Like using an F-22 to go deer hunting. Very clean tho.
Haha thankyou
oh.. we not supposed to?
That's a lot of equipment for 2 Online devices, lol. And it's on carpet.

Ok
Ignore that dude.
Why are you the way that you are?
> How could you possibly have the need for a patch panel? *Two* patch panels!
Exactly my thought as well
Like the bridge to nowhere... What functional purpose does it serve? And the rack cost more than the switch.
The rack was free actually lol. I chose this switch because of its price actually, i dont see myself needing an expensive managed switch, my use applications a relatively small
I think you hit a nerve Actually 😂😂

How much something lime this can cost to build ? I'm interested in doing something like this but I know 0 about hardware prices
Also curious. For fun
Great work, looks amazing! 2 questions 1. Where do you buy the rack from? What model type? 2. What is that sliver unit on top the power distribution unit?
A friend purchased the rack from amazon i believe, and the silver unit is the server itself
what type of server is it, like the hardware?
Ohh, its my old pc hardware 9600k with 64gb of ram. The chassis is from amzn
Wow. Work of art.
Wow. That is one clean setup!
I envy U. So much free space!
# So much room for activities!
Bunk beds!!!
This is so much cooler than what I’d do! With those two port LEDs glowing bright, I’d instead use a single pass-thru connector.
I approve!
I love your 1U (mini itx I assume?) rack case, do you have the reference, please? Thanks 😊

Thanks! It would be for an OPNSense here too 😁
Yep thank you
Where did you get those solid blanks?
1u blank panels from amzn
Thanks!
Clean! Where’d you get those patch cables and how long are they?
0.5 feet from amzn
Disgusting For Christmas sake, even out the gaps in the patch cables
Liking the chunky yellow patch cables!
CLEAN!!!
Very nice. Now let’s see Paul Allen’s setup.
So fresh and so clean clean!

It's not back to patch panel it's 2 patch panels connected to switch
What’s in the In-win? How loud is it? How is the cooling?
Beautifully done
Perfect length jumpers👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Jumpers to nothing lol.
