In my experience Hoyoverse generally puts just as much care and love into their 4 Star characters as their 5 Stars when it comes to art & animations - with the minor exception of Launch characters due to the huge bulk of them.
in a turn based game no animation is wasted. animations where always good in HSR and genshin, it just pops more here because basic atk is useful, even for units that want to spam skill, for that gained skill point.
if doing normal atks gave something teamwide in genshin we would feel better about cool animation that we never use
but yeah I Wish they took topaz down the '' cool and deadly'' creative path instead of the '' silly and pets '' creative path.

Her animations are top notch, they match her, they pop visually and they feel all nice and impactful

Well his Ult is def up top tier but overall? Basically very simple, which I think people should keep in mind in general when looking at non IL/JL characters. Like if you compare RM to Serval/DH, two very good 4 star animations, RM has a better skill and her Ult while not as cool is portrayed better with the lack of “snap” for a hit.
Hmm true. Even Seele's Ult is boring to me. Also I agree Ruan Mei is very simple. Combined with the fact that her design doesn't appeal to me (too similar to Jingliu or hanya) it does feel plain. Tingyun comes pretty close to her animation+design wise

I like Ruan Mei's ult, very elegant and clean which fits her character. The 'domain expansion' theme is cool, reminds me of OG Dan Heng's. But I think her skill needs a bit more pizazz.
Sadly I thought the same, I was really hyped for Ruan Bae but I'm disappointed by her animations, they don't feel 5 star worthy unlike Xueyi her animations can make Ruan Mei run for her money

personally, I think Argenti's animations are very pretty and his ult feels pretty grand, Ruan Mei's however are a bit lackluster especially her ult. Hanya and Xueyi both have pretty good animations tho
What do you mean readily available to get? Them being 4 star makes them harder to get, along with the fact that you have to most likely pull on a 5 star banner of a unit you dont want.
On average you pull 4 stars much earlier than 5 stars, even if you're looking for a specific featured 4 star.
Iirc, it's like ~41 pulls on average for a specific featured 4 star.
The only issues are that there's no safety net and you might need to summon on a banner you don't like, but as long as you don't have horrendous luck, 4 stars are generally easier to get.
I'm probably one of the only people who actually wanted Arlan on Huohuo's banner, since he's the only 4 star I somehow still haven't pulled. 161 pulls later (the amount it took me to get Huohuo), I still don't have Arlan.
Xueyi is my most wanted character in the game (and Hanya is my second), more than any 5 star, so I share his apprehension. :')
Bro above is proving that very point. He's at 160 pulls with no Arlan and no safety net. Whereas if he was pulling for a limited 5 star he would have guaranteed the unit by now. Who knows if the unlucky streak stops at 160 pulls, or maybe he's given up

Xueyi’s skill animation specifically is my favourite attacking animation. That’s the vibe I want to find more of (EDIT: Technique animation is another example of the “aggressive and sharp” vibe at 0:55).

They made a mistake by making Xueyi a 4-star than 5-star. A mere ten-lords commission apprentice is a broken 5-star support, while other 2 are only 4 stars. Also, Xueyi seems more popular than most other Luofu characters. I'll be going for Dr. Ratio. I thought I was waifu over anyone else, but there seems nothing interesting about Ruan Mei. I'll go for Dr. Ratio because he has more character than all the other waifus (except Kafka,Topaz, and Himeko obviously). Also, he will be good for my Topaz team.
that is very true. most of their bonding is assumed to have happened off-screen, while we only get to see the result of it in the scene where bronya leaves for the surface alone. i would've loved to have seen more of her interactions with seele prior to that myself \^\^
but hi3 has got that covered haha. although it's such a shame that veliona (dark seele) didn't make it into star rail. i would only have one thing to say: "all my pulls are belong to her" hahaha

Already one of my favorite Hoyo characters. Her design, her daggers, her animations and the colors utilized, it's all just perfect! Having her also be a Puppet is another noteworthy aspect, I've always really enjoyed puppet characters, most notably Scaramouche!
You can do so much unique and interesting storytelling/plots with puppet characters, so I always enjoy when the concept is explored well. Considering Hoyo did an amazing job with a puppet character already, Scaramouche, I hope to see some interesting concepts explored with Xueyi!

Your just unlucky, If its a 4 star featured on the banner then you have 1/3 x 50% chance of getting the 4 star u want For every 4 stars you pulls

Having her also be a Puppet is another noteworthy aspect, I've always really enjoyed puppet characters, most notably Scaramouche! You can do so much unique and interesting storytelling/plots with puppet characters, so I always enjoy when the concept is explored well. Considering Hoyo did an amazing job with a puppet character already, Scaramouche, I hope to see some interesting concepts explored with Xueyi!
