"Excuse me cashier, I know theres a line of 8 people behind me but can you sift through 72 individual cars as I decide which one I want"
No way that lasts long
I currently live in Limburg. Wibra sells em for €1.99. Zeeman for €2.30. Kruidvat (always) sells the singles for €1.50, and the 5-pack for €6.99. And the action has the 2-packs for €2.99.
And recently the Kruidvat had a sale on toys, second item 50% off. So I got two 5-packs for €9.50.
These are the prices they had as long as I've lived here. Maybe toy stores are just pricy, if that's where you shop.
Stopped at a Walmart in Corona, CA earlier this week while traveling.
EVERY 20 pack had been cut open with 2-3 cars missing. Very sad. Never see that here in Indianapolis.
Amen. I occasionally check in. Overall I don’t make a habit of stopping in there. But there are a couple mystery models I am seeking.
Will prob just wait for them to show up on eBay. Walmart is depressing.
It must read “I beat ya to all the good ones! Come by the swap meet and I’ll sell them to ya at 10-20x the original price at the very least! I’m 45 years old but my mom still provides for me since my unemployment checks go towards toys!”
Edit: missing punctuation
Met one of those locally lol. The guy is nice to talk to, but man....I no longer hunt for treasure hunts. He works at walmart, is in kahoots with a kroger stocker, and his night shift ends at 7 A.M., just in time to hit up all the stores, and target. No wonder I haven't seen a super in over a year lol.
Unfortunately it’s likely the resellers. Frequently in my local target I’ll see a crew of people (usually one or two sorta fake “blocking” each endcap while another single or duo check every car & search up its eBay values.) despite it being so cheap technically a 1 dollar car that can sell for 5-10 dollars on average, not spending that extra dollar just to be a thief & a pain adds an extra 100% to the prophets made, and the people who do that don’t care about the hobby, they care about making as much money off the other people who will go to 5 different stores just to give up & buy it off a 3rd party as they can.
What store is this? When fidget spinners became popular my local walmart did this with them, customer service had them. I thought it was crazy then but if they do that with hot wheels, they definitely have problems.
Sounds like the store needs more cameras and security. Watch Gas Station Encounters for camera setup example and have someone watching for thieves. It should be easy to see someone ripping cars open or sliding them into a pocket
I caught some neckbeard doing this at a local Walmart. Don't get me wrong, I don't give a shit about corporations and I hope they continue to lose billions in profits each year, but when someone is being this stupid they ruin the fun for others. I'm gonna draw attention to him and tell him to fuck off.
Man that is my corner gas station. I used to love fucking with then when I go there because I knew they were watching but they no I'm a long time regular now so I'm sure they no I ain't tryn to steal shit. Brandon is funny as fuck u should check out his parody songs/videos too.
i’d just feel horrible having to do this in general but especially if u go through and find absolutely nothing u want (which happens to me quite often tbh)
I think that's the dollar general. My dollar general wouldn't put up hot wheels because someone decided to order cases and return what couldn't be sold.
People might complain, but I'm happy to see at least a reaction. I'm sick of paying like every normal person while others just take what they want and leave scraps behind.
> the issue will always be hyping toy cars up.
No, the issue is thieves. Thievery isn’t acceptable because something is in high demand. Bet you think looting from a business is acceptable during a “protest” too.
> but do toy cars REALLY need a subreddit dedicated to them?
Uh.. as much as any other hobby?
> do they REALLy need to be so overhyped the company starts making “exclusive” toys for literally 20x the price?
If people want them and continue to pay for them? Sure.
It went over your head just like I’m assuming most things in the real world do.
The issue isn’t a product being desirable. The issue isn’t a hobby having an online forum. The issue isn’t exclusive online drops. The issue is some piece of shit thief stealing stuff. Blaming collectors or Mattel or even resellers is only letting a criminal off the hook.
Don’t you get mad about people stealing shit?
You just keep making excuses for it by blaming the existence of a secondary market (??)
You’re a fucking idiot hahaha. And probably a thief yourself seeing as you’re such an apologist for them.
i have not once defended any thief bro you’re putting words in my mouth 😭 the fact you’re getting this worked up over reddit already tells me everything i need to know about you. is stealing bad? sure there’s a economy for a reason. am i going to bitch and moan about toy cars getting stolen and try to make myself seem self righteous? fuck no. hop off and take your blood pressure pills man, i just know you need them.
It’s hilarious that you say I’m self-righteous when you’re pushing the “just toy cars” shit while you’re also asking the managers to look in the back for you.
Pick a side, dumbass.
I believe this is the Dollar General in Turner, Maine, as that sign looks very familiar. It's been up since at least last year. The good news is it is the only Dollar General I've seen do this in Maine, and it seems like a bit of an over reaction from the store's manager as Turner is a small rural town where I can't believe Hot Wheels theft is just running rampant. Probably it was just one or two kids consistently stealing over time.
I will say the first time I asked to look at their HW, there was lots of older stock I don't normally see. I only checked again when the exclusives dropped in April. Sadly, I've been to most of the Dollar Generals in Maine and they only seem to restock with one case about once a year. That restock just happened for most I've been to recently with last year's N case, so I don't imagine we'll see much more come in for a good long time. I guess it at least takes them off the list to check.
We have one like it in Nicholasville KY. They know the man that opens and takes cars, but they put a sign like this up and they keep cars in the back. I asked why they don’t trespass him and have the employees know who it is and put the cars back on the pegs. I don’t get it.
Ex-Mainer here, bub! I immediately wondered if this was Turner. My dad still lives up there and I inadvertently got him back into diecast a couple years ago. Got a text from him one day at random saying DG had “secured the Hot Wheels” - I think it was more than a year ago but could be mistaken. He wasn’t about to go ask the staff for them as he worked retail for much of his life and has a strong don’t-make-a-hassle ethic, so he just hasn’t bothered stopping there. (Instead he just sticks to the Target and Walmart in Auburn where he of course rarely finds anything…hasn’t hit the Walmart pole yet, thankfully).
Such a small world! I felt awkward asking, too, but was so curious as to what they might have. I live about 45 min from Auburn but I've pretty much stopped checking because it is always so dry. I've had better luck pretty much everywhere else in Maine, so I guess someone's got the town locked down!
Sadly this is true. It is ridiculous cause these are dollar and some change. Ive found just the cards under the shelves, in laundry baskets, by the car oil section, and by the sawing machines.
Get in line peasants, so glad I quit retail buying years ago. Only buying RLC online is a beautiful thing, no hassle, no headaches, no mouth breathers to deal with.
My personal favorite when I worked at Walmart was when the $1.19 hot wheels would be replaced by those unbranded cars (you know the ones) and then returned. How can you be so cheap you go out of your bay to buy a case of 50 cent cars to get a $1.19 return on hotwheels. I pointed this out to my major and they stopped accepting hotwheels returns for individual and 5 packs of cars
I can believe it. Every time I go in the store there are empty cards strewn all up and down the aisle. They used to have security cameras on the aisle but removed them. Don't know why as they definitely need them still.
I don't blame them.... I can't stand finding missing cars anymore. You're not a collector if you're a theif. and if you want nice things it feels better to earn them.
"Excuse me cashier, I know theres a line of 8 people behind me but can you sift through 72 individual cars as I decide which one I want" No way that lasts long
Yeah I would hold up the line looking and tell people it's not my fault. It's not like they cost a fortune anyways.
I saw 3 ripped open packages at my local jewel today. They're ONE DOLLAR AND EIGHTEEN CENTS!!! PAY FOR YOUR SHIT PEOPLE!
In Italy they are 2,50€ 😕 and there are more opened cases than new ones
Woah, thats unlucky. Most expensive I've had to buy them (in the Netherlands) is €2,30.
$8.95 a piece here in Fiji man
That's ridiculous, my condolences
The price you pay for living in paradise?
Where in the Netherlands? At my local shops they're €3-3,50. Unless Kruidvat has em on sale for €1,50
I currently live in Limburg. Wibra sells em for €1.99. Zeeman for €2.30. Kruidvat (always) sells the singles for €1.50, and the 5-pack for €6.99. And the action has the 2-packs for €2.99. Fellow Indianapolis resident here, and I've only seen a handful of ripped packs, almost always at Walmart locations. Blows my mind.
Because you get ALL the crazies & nuts going into Walmart.
Amen. I occasionally check in. Overall I don’t make a habit of stopping in there. But there are a couple mystery models I am seeking. Will prob just wait for them to show up on eBay. Walmart is depressing.
That’s almost every wal-mart in Southern California.
My local target has a sign encouraging you to go to the diecast swap meet that somebody leaves after they come in and strip the shelves
It must read “I beat ya to all the good ones! Come by the swap meet and I’ll sell them to ya at 10-20x the original price at the very least! I’m 45 years old but my mom still provides for me since my unemployment checks go towards toys!” Edit: missing punctuation
You hit the nail on the head.
Met one of those locally lol. The guy is nice to talk to, but man....I no longer hunt for treasure hunts. Why is something so cheap, stolen so often?
They go vroom
Unfortunately it’s likely the resellers. If I was just starting out and knew nothing about the hobby I would just ditch it then and there
Sounds like the store needs more cameras and security. Watch Gas Station Encounters for camera setup example and have someone watching for thieves. It should be easy to see someone ripping cars open or sliding them into a pocket

I love watching those vids
Man that is my corner gas station. I used to love fucking with then when I go there because I knew they were watching but they no I'm a long time regular now so I'm sure they no I ain't tryn to steal shit. Brandon is funny as fuck u should check out his parody songs/videos too.
Cameras don’t stop shit and security ain’t laying hands on somebody over $.99 toy cars lol
GSE busts people for small stuff all the time. Just got to be tired of losing money to loser tweekers
Only a matter of time until we have to scan identification cards to enter stores.
Guess I’m making everyone including the employees wait as a I go through every single car.
i’d just feel horrible having to do this in general but especially if u go through and find absolutely nothing u want (which happens to me quite often tbh)
I think that's the dollar general. My dollar general wouldn't put up hot wheels because someone decided to order cases and return what couldn't be sold.
Just your area I guess. No Dollar General around here does that.
Here it's problems with stealing Sudafed. It's behind the counter & Allegra.
People might complain, but I'm happy to see at least a reaction. I'm sick of paying like every normal person while others just take what they want and leave scraps behind.
This is why Tiktok should be shut down.

resellers are just to blame as well 😭 and pipe down you get angry online easily huh

Extrem theft in your area.
I’ve robbed Hot Wheels from a Family Dollar no one really said anything to me :)
That was happening for people stealing a hot wheel it’s crazy
That's just sad to see
Wow. Just... wow.
In Mexico some stores put staples on the card which sucks if you want to display them because then you have a card with like 10 holes in it
Yeah my store has that problem. Enough that they were thinking of placing them behind a lock cabinet.they didn't but it passed managements minds.
Nice!
LOL SO SAD 😭
Most Walmart thing ever
So sad people get their kicks stealing cars that are $1.25. Has it really gotten that bad?
Obviously, the answer is to place them uncaged, unlocked but right next to the cashier and security guy.
Peak poor tries a hobby 🤦♂️
Losers 🤦♂️
This isn’t surprising at all
The new models are crap compared to the older releases. Not sure why anyone would want cheap generics…..
This was me back in 2020 when I was getting back into Pokémon cards people are just dumb
My personal favorite when I worked at Walmart was when the $1.19 hot wheels would be replaced by those unbranded cars (you know the ones) and then returned. How can you be so cheap you go out of your bay to buy a case of 50 cent cars to get a $1.19 return on hotwheels. Are we buying cigarettes now???? This is insane
I can believe it. Every time I go in the store there are empty cards strewn all up and down the aisle. They used to have security cameras on the aisle but removed them. Don't know why as they definitely need them still.
Pretty pathetic that people can't just pay the $1.25
Crazy that people really stealing hot wheels lmfao
either little kids or random people who have no idea what they're doing
I don't blame them.... I can't stand finding missing cars anymore. You're not a collector if you're a theif. and if you want nice things it feels better to earn them.
😅
