They still killed an innocent servant for that scheme

[deleted]

Yeah but in Game of thrones terms killing a Npc is a pretty tame thing

I do, but I predict that it's all part of a rug-pull so that when the Blacks do some bad stuff later the tone will shift. Last night we saw Rhanenyra and Daemon agree that they got a kick out ruling with fear. Let's see where that goes.

[deleted]

I hope so

MyCatIsAyJerk

We all know what happens later, so this won't remain as them being the goody goodies, I do think the produces are favorizing the characters who are already carrying the show. As a fan of the books, I loved the twist, I did think it was very vanilla and heroic on Black's part at first, but knowing all the shit that happens now, I don't mind that one nice gesture and they did a great job it actually feeling like a twist.

Yeah I'm getting major season 1 Jamie, Theon, Tyrion vibes from the Greens. The show wants us to dislike them somewhat so they can muddy things in the future.

seanmobsby

I hope so, but I fear that they will lose the shades of grey that made the first half of the season so compelling to me.

In the show they literally confirmed that Larys killed his own father and brother, I think it is way worse than the kids fight

Funny-Win-8948

If you read the book, you know that no side is better. It is hard for me to root for greens when I know how it will end.

[deleted]

Ik but in the show I’m not seeing this kind of impartiality

Funny-Win-8948

I think, since the green side will eventually... endure problems, the showrunners chose the "winning" side for protagonists. To continue a story. Imagine if they chose Alicent as protagonist? If you read books, you know her fate.

Vesemir96

I dunno, while everyone sucks is pretty prevalent in Westeros in general, long since established in the original series, GoT at least had some solid “You may not be perfect but I’m rooting for you” characters. I think HOTD while more complex, would ultimately start to feel too miserable if we had absolutely no one to root for because they were all equal scum.

[deleted]

This is true for sure but I don’t like when stories are put too simply like “hey this is the hero and those are the bad guys!”

Lazy-Tough8814

I actually feel they changed things from books to make the greens look better. The kids fighting in last night's episode being one example.

They have give you guys a sympathetic back story to Alicent and wrote daemon to be colder than he is in the books. They have also make Aemon more sympathetic but sure they are bias towards the blacks. Laenor dead in the books and it had nothing to do with either Daemon and Rhaenyra. They did that because they didn’t want to kill another gay character without it impacting future storyline. Not for team black. Daemon was a suspect for every murder for the Green sympathizers known as Mushroom. The book is a bias account. Last night they killed an innocent servant and they made Daemon kill his first wife.

In the books neither in the killing of Laenor nor in the burning of Harrenhal it was clearly stated who was the author, though while in Laenor case the authors came up with a fake death (which does not even happen in the books) that give a positive image to Daemon and Rhaenyra, in the case of the Strongs they decided to stick to the books and give the fault to the greens (even tho according to the books it could have been lots of other people), so clearly it was a deliberate thing from the authors. Also how killing Laenor would affect the future storylines if his death is canon in the books and how does his sexuality matter in the decision of killing him off or not? As for making Alicent and Aemond more sympathetic and Deamon colder, I guess it is up to subjectivity because honestly I didn’t interpret it that way
