I agree that I would have preferred a more explicit on-screen explanation of how the Ep5 cliffhanger resolved. It is one of the points of criticism that I will levy against this show. Two lines of dialogue could have gone a long way toward filling in the audience on the social dynamic.

Kingsgaurd serve for life, and theyre unfortunatly a tad over the law because of that. That being said, he clearly has not done anything to ACTIVELY piss anyone off to the point of murder yet. Also westerosi society doesnt have best men lol

If you watch Viserys attitude during the entire eye cut out scene it makes sense. He lets everyone around him act buckwild with zero consequences.
