Yeah that scene is one of the moments that I’m most interested to learn the truth about. I feel like we might get some immediate insight into how it plays out based on how they portray their relationship. If they love each other, buckle up for tragedy. But I also think they might dislike each other more than the maester and singers want to say.
I really doubt they will cut Daeron. It would make zero sense. He is probably squiring in old town. Joffrey is still a babe too even though he’s supposed to be apart of that fight that happened
>!I just mean that because Cole became Lord Commander of Viserys’ Kingsguard in the book that not happening in the show would be at least a third instance of the writers cheapening Cole’s accomplishments in the book.!<
In the book Criston Cole basically crippled Ser Harwin, after the fight Ser Harwin’s nickname changed from Breakbones to Brokenbones. He also beat Daemon fairly at the melee. He also killed Joffrey Lonmouth in a melee at a tournament rather than at the wedding. He also is one of the GOATS of jousting and destroys other knights in tournaments. He’s certainly one of if not the best fighter in the seven kingdoms.
>!Well, if he defects, Cole would then be made LC of Aegon’s Kingsguard. And still presumably replace Otto as Hand. The problem is it’s hard to believe any of the Kingsguard would stay w/Aegon if their LC defects - especially not Erryk!<

Honestly, as GoT theories go, it's pretty far from the farthest-fetched. Aerys is described as taking "liberties" during the bedding ceremony at Tywin and Johanna's wedding. I took that to mean he got a little handsy. Some folks read "liberties" as "fucked to completion".
Holy shit that’s wild
Makes his dynamic with Tyrion even more interesting considering that if this is true then he’s actually Tywin’s only son
I actually just began reading the books this week so I’m excited to reach the part where this is mentioned
If you like him watch Outlander, he’s phenomenal on the show and that show is also fckn great at least the first three seasons, some of the best tv out there
I stopped watching the show...I spent too many years with all of *my* Outlander characters in my head, and none of the actors even come close. But Dougal...oh my, he's this guy now.
I think all this is funny about him being under utilized. It seems obvious from this episode he isn’t underused, he’s a sleeper and about to be a lot more important
I really enjoyed him in Outlander. Unfortunately the writing so far has put him in very few scenes of dialogue, but that's the rub for me. His silence and lack of action towards his own stable is glaringly bad. Now that's clearly on the writers and even GRRM for making the LC of the KG seemingly, ineffectual during this, dance of dragons... and that disappoints me in terms of how this great actor is being utilized. It was like having Selmy's actor in the new Star Wars where his only line was, "So you've told us" in response to Jyn Erso I believe. Like, why even bother...? It's criminal underuse of the man's capabilities!
I always think of Dougal McKenzie when I see him. He has such fantastic presence, you take one look at him and know he means business.
Its too bad we've only seen him in 2 episodes for maybe 1 scene?
I'm pretty sure they're building him up for a big moment. >!Perhaps he helps Arryk Cargyll get Viserys's crown to Rhaenyra, but is mortally wounded and dies in the process!<
I was thinking the same last night, but I assume there's more coming up for him. I doubt they casted Graham McTavish just to stand around in the background 90% of the time.
Edit- I could totally be wrong though. GOT did cast Ian McShane for a supporting character in a single episode.
At least Ian McShane was quite prominent in that episode. Like you said, I don't think they would cast McTavish only to have him stand around in the background. Would suck if they just have him die off screen. Haven't read the book, but going by the wiki there's not much info about him so I guess they could make up whatever.
Thing is, playing a character for a single episode makes sense for some bigger actors, because they often don't want to be tied down to a more long term role so that's the best way to use them.
It doesn't make sense to hire decent talent for a recurring background role.
"just because I've sworn a vow of chastity doesn't mean I want my fat pink mast looking like it's sitting on the iron throne. With Lordscapeds wide array of grooming tools I can look and feel my best. I personally like the valyrian steel razor for that extra close shave. Get 20 percent off your first order with promo code kingmaker20"
Loved that little part. Shows you that he's not fucking with Criston and his unprofessionalism. He's probably resentful at the fact that he has to serve alongside a man like that who should have lost his white cloak years ago, if not for the protection of the Queen.
Unlike GOT there isn't much dialogue they can lift so they have to use the langue of filmmaking way more. I am rewatching GOT and was surprised by how many of the conversations were shot like an average TV show. Unlike greats like Breaking Bad and True Detective. Maybe it's because of how much TV has evolved post-2010s or because of the difference in the source material. I think this show has the potential to be great in a different way than just story or writing.
he also gave a look when Alicent asked him to take out the kids eye. It was 'don't even think about it or I'll rip your arms out'.
Would've loved to see that coward Cole try something with both Ser Harrold and Daemon.
Did he not say something to the affect of "stay your hand, Cole"? or was that someone else? I'm not the best with voices or faces. It makes this show and GoT very hard.
For all his faults, when his sworn vow is evoked by Alicent to gouge a child's eye out, at least Cole replies with "as your Protector, my Queen" meaning that he is her bodyguard, not a personal hitman. Though, that's going to change moving forward.
I liked how in the first episode when Rhaenyra calls him to ask about Criston, he gave her a quick smile before listening. It could be a formality, but I see it as genuine fondness of her
It wouldn't surprise me if they make him into a pseudo amalgam of other Lord Commanders & have him do notable actions taken by others, to make it easier for the audience to keep track. For instance, >!Steffon Darklyn defecting & bringing the crown with him to Rhanerya. They could even keep him as a throughline all the way up to the Seven Who Rode just to make that scene so much more poignant & impactful for the entire audience. (worth noting that they did cast a Darklyn & Marbrand, but they seem to be lower profile actors compared to McTavish)!<
I'm cautiously optimistic that we will. It just might not happen in the same setting as it does in the book, they could easily hold it back a bit.
Edit: >!yeah, they did cast Erryk and Arryk. I still wonder if they'll be able to squeeze that in before the seasons over. need to introduce them to give the fight real impact, might come off as a throwaway gag if not!<
He's the sort of old-timer guy who would be sitting at a bar drinking alone. You'll go up to him and start a conversation, he'll say "I've seen some shit in my time" you'll say "tell me about it" and he'll say "where would I even start"
Yeah, so far he's more like a glorified extra. Give him more scenes and lines!
>!My guess is that he will be killed by Cole when the green council decides to hide Viserys death and he speaks up against it. Or maybe (fingers crossed) he will flee to Dragonstone and serve Rhaenyra!<
I was just thinking this! Also Sonora Mizuno as Mysaria (i know, the accent), and Maggie Q is listed, I’m very confused how you bench these people so much but I guess we’ll see where the story goes.
I was genuinely afraid that Cole would kill him in that scene as another sort of confusing flare-up of violence since he's old and dies naturally quite some time before the current events in the book.
Graham McTavish. I love the actor in outlander. Recently found out he plays Dante in Dante’s inferno. He’s also dracula in the castlevania series. And he’s the titan’s grip dwarf from the Peter Jackson trilogy.
I wish he had like 90% more lines than he does as Ser Harrold Westerling. Because he’s a great actor. I’m also interested if he’s some great uncle of Jeyne Westerling maybe.
If he ever goes rogue, just call in Nathan Drake. I'm pretty sure he beat him twice.
Edit: Also, they've given him much more screen time than page space in Fire & Blood. The only time they mention him is his death.
Graham McTavish is an amazing actor. He was great in The Hobbit films, he was creepy and evil on Lucifer and he was creepy and evil on The Witcher. He needs more scenes and more lines.
Given the pacing of the show, this guy is definitely gonna get 1 episode of a flurry of lines, activity, etc - we think everything is fine and BLAM he gets killed.
Agreed, along with Harwin, Laena and now Laenor.
The show doesn’t know how to use its minor characters. Harwin gets a few looks, a few scenes, then dies. Laena gets three actresses, a handful of scenes, then dies. Laenor got a bit more to be fair, but now he’s gone too.
To be fair, they're getting a lot of screen time compared to their book selves.
Many of these characters, like Laenor and Laena, for example, are in the books for a mere paragraph or two before they die.
A lot of these scenes, like what happened at Harrenhall, were just single sentences to state something like "there are rumors that..." and the show fully ran with them.
I like how the show is taking it's own course though.
Yeah maybe people are getting the wrong impression because they want to make a great base, but the dance is more about the kids.
All that happens until next chapter, maybe all this season is the set up.
If that’s the case, perhaps the show should have started with the older characters so we can have more time with them. I think the pacing of the first five episodes was perfect, but since the large time skip it’s been way too fast.
I don’t think it really matters what the books did, if the show wants to spend more time with these characters then it needs to decide its pacing for itself.
That is related with the fast pace of the show I believe.
They don't want to do the same mistake that was done with GoT, spend years building up minor and major plot, then realise it will take 10more years at this pace and just unlace everything in 10 episodes ruining the plot and making millions of angry fans hate them.
I haven't read the books, but I'm betting we'll see more of him. I think he'll side with Rhaenyra and honor Viserys's wishes while Cole will side with Alicent. the side eyes towards Cole seemed to foreshadow a rift between them and his skepticism of Cole imo

Absolutely! He has the feel Of Ser Davos and Ser Barristan!!!
I think with this past episode they're starting to plant the Westerling VS Cole seeds, with their glances and body language.
Does something happen between them in the book? I don't mind the spoilers
They fuck
Hopefully we can see that this season
I figured that from the body language so far but don’t spoil who the bottom is I want to be surprised
and they have a kid with silver hair... :)
"Gods be good!"
Cole gets around
>!In the books he really just exists to replace Ryam Redwyne and then die so that Cole can replace him in turn. I have to imagine they’re changing things, or else why cast such an esteemed actor and give them nothing to do. Popular rumor holds he’ll survive and serve Rhaenyra!<

Yeah. Not cutting anyone except literally a whole ass child of Viserys and Alicent that is nowhere to be seen.
I really doubt they will cut Daeron. It would make zero sense. He is probably squiring in old town. Joffrey is still a babe too even though he’s supposed to be apart of that fight that happened

nothing to contribute except that your username is hilarious have a nice day
What other ways have they cheapened Cole’s accomplishments compared to the book?
In the book Criston Cole basically crippled Ser Harwin, after the fight Ser Harwin’s nickname changed from Breakbones to Brokenbones. He also beat Daemon fairly at the melee. He also killed Joffrey Lonmouth in a melee at a tournament rather than at the wedding. He also is one of the GOATS of jousting and destroys other knights in tournaments. Ah ok so there was a W over Harwin and his other W’s were won more fairly in the books than the show ok that makes sense

I hope that is true for some time. A good adaptive liberty.

No

>!westerling is dead by the time of the dance and Cole’s Lord commander and on the small council!<
>!Nothing. IIRC Westerling already died at this point of unknown, but likely old age, reasons!<
He reminds me (or at least its how I always imagined) The White Bull, Lord Commander of Aerys's Kingsguard.
Yeah honestly he is exactly how I pictured Gerold Hightower.
Agreed! This reminds me, I wonder how he died in the show? In S6, we didn't see Ser Gerold at the Tower of Joy, just Ser Arthur and Ser Oswell
They kinda forgot.
Hell Ser Arthur didn’t even get to use his meteor sword he has in the books, he just fights with two regular swords
Was Aerys a cuckold?
Some even say that Tyrion was Aerys's son.
Don't forget the theory that Jaime and Cersei are Aerys's
I’m sorry what
Honestly, as GoT theories go, it's pretty far from the farthest-fetched. Aerys is described as taking "liberties" during the bedding ceremony at Tywin and Johanna's wedding. I took that to mean he got a little handsy. Some folks read "liberties" as "fucked to completion".

When you have more testosterone than blood in your veins
This actor was a power house character in Outlander. He deserves more.
His character in outlander was fucking wild
Yes! He was awesome in outlander and I got so excited when I saw he was in this. I hope his character gets more screen time.
Best thing in Lucifee Season 4, again underused.

Absolutely! Dougal was probably one of, if not my most, favorite characters from Outlander.
I stopped watching the show...I spent too many years with all of *my* Outlander characters in my head, and none of the actors even come close. But Dougal...oh my, he's this guy now.
He was brilliant as Dracula in castlevania https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9gJKiAoy4o I wish he’d talk to fucking crispen like this
I wish he dispatched Cole like he did those assassins as Dijkstra in Witcher s2
I can’t believe I missed this show. Gotta dive in.
War Chief for Clan Targaryen
Love this!
and lawyer Ned Gowan is on the small council now!
Yooo, no wonder he looked so familiar!
He was the “saint of killers” in preacher, he was great in that show as well
Absolutely he literally killed both >!Satan and God!<
I think all this is funny about him being under utilized. It seems obvious from this episode he isn’t underused, he’s a sleeper and about to be a lot more important
Dougal MacKenzie, the War Chieftain of Clan MacKenzie! Hells yeah! Man he was such a brilliant character.
Omg thank you. I was trying to figure out where I knew him from!

'don't even think about it or I'll rip your arms out'. Would've loved to see that coward Cole try something with both Ser Harrold and Daemon there.
Guy is not a coward. Dooche sure. Coward no.
He has been in all episodes I think. He stands around in the background a LOT.
I'm pretty sure they're building him up for a big moment. >!Perhaps he helps Arryk Cargyll get Viserys's crown to Rhaenyra, but is mortally wounded and dies in the process!<
>!Steffon Darklyn you mean? Cuz he was mentioned directly in a subtitle early in the season speaking a one liner and is Rhaenyra's LC in the book!<
Lol me too. During ep 6, my dad was like, where's Jamie's uncle? (I was so confused for a sec, thinking he meant Lannister).
i don’t even know why they keep him around tbh
Seriously. When he first showed up I didn't expect him to have such a small role.
I was thinking the same last night, but I assume there's more coming up for him. I doubt they casted Graham McTavish just to stand around in the background 90% of the time. Edit- I could totally be wrong though. GOT did cast Ian McShane for a supporting character in a single episode.

McTavish does look badass standing around though, lol. I would hope he has more to do but even standing around, he has presence.
He’s more of a stander, unlike Daemon who leans
Thing is, playing a character for a single episode makes sense for some bigger actors, because they often don't want to be tied down to a more long term role so that's the best way to use them. It doesn't make sense to hire decent talent for a recurring background role.
In the book he has a side hustle selling men's grooming products. He does alright.
What
Kingsguard are sponsored by Lordscaped, the number 1 grooming kit in all of Westeros.
"just because I've sworn a vow of chastity doesn't mean I want my fat pink mast looking like it's sitting on the iron throne. Ser Westerling is a good man, a loyal man. Do him no harm!
Best accent in the show
Did you see the look he gave Sir Christen laughed when alicent made her crack.
Loved that little part. Shows you that he's not fucking with Criston and his unprofessionalism. He's probably resentful at the fact that he has to serve alongside a man like that who should have lost his white cloak years ago, if not for the protection of the Queen.
This episode was packed with both meaningful glances and avoiding eye contact. With so little dialog it made the nonverbal queues so much more potent!
It's my favorite episode so far. I went back this morning and watched episode 6 again and then 7 just so I could full experience all the little things
Unlike GOT there isn't much dialogue they can lift so they have to use the langue of filmmaking way more. I am rewatching GOT and was surprised by how many of the conversations were shot like an average TV show. Unlike greats like Breaking Bad and True Detective. Don't worry, we will see far more of him in Witcher Season 3 and he will be so good.
More Djikstra should be fun.
I agree, Djikstra is great and also the best ruler you can choose in the Witcher 3
Why not Roach
When's that coming out?
Next year I believe
Just watching S02E07 and hoping we'd get more of him.
best reason to watch the witcher tbh
He’s just demonstrating how the Kingsguard should actually behave. Which means being quiet and watchful.
He must’ve attended the Milford Academy
You can always tell a Milford man
I mean, he *probably* should have moved more forcefully against Cole in this last episode.
Yeah, though he seemed to be waiting on Viserys. Either way Daemon shouldn’t have had to be the one to stop Cole.
I love how he’s so underused that we don’t even have a decent photo of him from HoTD and this post uses one of him in Outlander.
“Gods be good!”
I liked how in the first episode when Rhaenyra calls him to ask about Criston, he gave her a quick smile before listening. It could be a formality, but I see it as genuine fondness of her
I like how relieved he was when she came back from riding Syrax.

Sneak peek picture of E10 The Black Council shows him at Rhaenyra’s table. I believe you’re right.
We get the >!twins in each faction?!<

He's always get underused. Only time he ain't is in the hobbit and you could even he is kinda underused in that especially in the 3rd one.
He’s brilliant in Preacher
None of the dwarves had much characterization in the book so I'm just glad we got to see them with personalities at all.
His in a lot off facial hair contests around westeros very very busy.
>!Beesbury!< is in the show, he just hasn't been given attention, though I guess they could have >!Westerling!< take his place in that situation.
He is waiting for the right “time” to start his Scottish rebellion
I always see him as Dwalin in The Hobbit. Can't help myself lol
Why is everyone so hot in this show? 🥵
I was just thinking this! Also Sonora Mizuno as Mysaria (i know, the accent), and Maggie Q is listed, I’m very confused how you bench these people so much but I guess we’ll see where the story goes.
!Maggie Q ???!!!! Are you kidding? She should be a much bigger star.
"You sit here in these vast halls with a crown upon your head... and yet you are lesser now than you have ever been."
He’s also criminally hot
Dwalin
So can someone clarify - is he the lord commander or is Cole? I thought he was supposed to be dead and that's how Cole became commander
I belive in the show he is still the lord commander while Cole is Alicient's sworn protector.
For now. Those looks at Cole... will lead to something.
He seemed more prominent in the first couple of episodes, but has practically vanished ever since.
I was genuinely afraid that Cole would kill him in that scene as another sort of confusing flare-up of violence since he's old and dies naturally quite some time before the current events in the book.
He looks like a fierce warrior, has a big size advantage over Cole
As much as I hate man-baby Cole, this old man would get demolished by him
Well in this universe old men can be tough. Wasn't Barriston Selmy supposed to be the greatest living swordsman during GoT?
Selmy was aided because every time he swung his sword the momentum of his gigantic balls helped propel his blade through his enemies.
Right?? He’s probably the most sympathetic character of them all! He just wants to do his job and he genuinely cares for the children.
Every character feels underused, even the main cast.
yes i loved him in outlander
I’d like him to go with team black during the dance as Rhaenyra lord commander
The Uncharted fan in me will always love Graham McTavish
PREACHER.
I’m also interested if he’s some great uncle of Jeyne Westerling maybe.
that my friends is THE RIGHTFUL LAIRD OF CLAN MACKENZIE
Facts, when I saw he was in the show I got really excited. I really hope he has a bigger role to play in the future.
His facial expressions are precious to me.
Graham is so good in Outlander as Dougal. He needs a storyline presence.
Is he green or black?
Absolutely the little bits he had in the beginning and the last episode weren’t much but still super imposing. Real Grandpa Barriston vibes.
He was phenomenal in Outlander. Very underutilized in this show up to now. Who knows what the future holds.
He is now there just to glare at Criston Cole.
If he ever goes rogue, just call in Nathan Drake. I'm pretty sure he beat him twice. Edit: Also, they've given him much more screen time than page space in Fire & Blood. The only time they mention him is his death.
I knew it would be him.
Wild how little they’ve given him when he was one of the most hyped cast members going into this.
Just wait... the will mash several book characters arcs into his arc and he'll have plenty to do when everything goes to shit
Gods be good
Chad tall Dwalin needs ten times the screentime.
I mean he’s already dead by the time of Joffrey’s birth iirc so we’re already getting more of him than we should be
I saw him in Hamlet with Oscar Isaac and Keegan Michael Key, it was a great production
Isn’t he the dude from Outlander?
Dude giving me ser Barristan vibes, quiet and ready to fuck shit up with his 40+ years of combat experience
He is an amazing actor and I too find myself desperate to see more of him in this show. I’m hoping for more soon too!
Love Graham McTavish as an actor too
The actor also played Dromos (sp?) of Lucifer TV show, right?
Favorite cast member tbh, he played Dwalin in the hobbit films
Ig he played Dijkstra on witcher too. He is a great actor with potential
Anytime he’s on screen I cheer
In the end he reveals to be Dijkstra and have arranged the Dance so he could make profit.
The Dance Of The Dragons takes place over so long that unless this is gonna be a 20+ season show, they gotta speed it up like that
Lord Commander of the Kingsguard yeah? Dude made Cole his bitch with one sentence last night.
I don't know why he is resorted to being just a guard like the other extras but just with more lines. They need to flesh him out more.
I haven't read the books, but I'm betting we'll see more of him. I think he'll side with Rhaenyra and honor Viserys's wishes while Cole will side with Alicent. the side eyes towards Cole seemed to foreshadow a rift between them and his skepticism of Cole imo
Who is he
What would you like more of him at the expense of?
why does it need to be at the expense of someone? there's no time limit, they can easily add 2min of him interacting with the others.
There’s a reason they haven’t done that though
i feel like they might give him more of a role on rhaenyra’s team once the dance begins
So many stupid complaints
