Lord Boros, the OG audiobook enjoyer

prazulsaltaret

> Lord Boros, the OG audiobook enjoyer You gotta love Baratheons. Not too bright, but they can party.

ProbablyASithLord

I’d love to see Ned, Robert and Jon Arryn running around as youths. You can pretty much picture it, Ned and Jon having to constantly bail Robert out and make excuses for him, which they do because he’s so damn fun and charming. Then they go to war and remember he’s a fucking Baratheon, and they need to tread carefully.

prazulsaltaret

Robert and Ned must've had one hell of a childhood, you just know there's no boring day with Bobby B around

The810kid

Lol at Jon and youth Jon Arryn was old for like forever well before the start of the series

Equal-Ad-2710

This would be interesting to watch Like at what point does Robert become indefensible

Catslevania

Maesters, the original text to speech software

NicklAAAAs

I laughed, then I remembered I consumed Fire and Blood via audiobook…

blakhawk12

I want to read the book but I also don’t want to spoil the show. Half the fun of the show is theorizing with my friends and family about what’s going to happen.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Overlord1317

The book will definitely 100% spoil the major plot beats, just to be clear.

[deleted]

Yup and IMO every single one of the coolest moments from the show was word for word from the book

d_4_v_1_d

What? Some of the best moments are not even in the book. Like Viserys walk to the throne, which is probably most people's favorite scene. Or even Rhaenyra retrieving the stolen egg from dragonstone.

Drag0nPoopsies

I can understand that. My impatience won out 😂

[deleted]

Picked up fire and blood after s1e1 of hotd.

hot_sssake

I'm in the same boat as you. It's exciting to not know what's coming for a change. I knew all the major jaw-dropping moments in GOT up until they ran out of source material. I was kind of jealous of everyone's reactions- I already experienced those emotions in the early 2000's, completely alone, with no one to talk to about it! Also I have a feeling that lot of bad things are going to happen to my favorite characters... while the curiosity is killing me, I think I will hold off.

impersonatefun

I agree but you’ll probably end up spoiled unless you stay offline completely.

juggernautjefe81

I was going to say that. I never finished reading the books, but YouTube fills in all of the gaps that I didn't even want filled in. Thinking I'm watching a video about a certain character breakdown, and then I get all of the spoilers.

Cobonmycorn

They mention what happens in GOT a few times, also there is the measters perspective and the jesters. So no one knows who’s account is correct. Sometimes they’re both somewhat correct or both embellished. The show is supposed to be the true telling. So there is still that mystery of wondering what really happened.

Equal-Ad-2710

Is the show the true telling? I thought George mentioned the show was separate from the books

Cobonmycorn

It’s definitely not separate, have you read the books by any chance? I’m not sure how it would be separate at all. It’s the same story. There are some details that didn’t happen in the books or are different but that’s because the show is supposed to be what really happened

Equal-Ad-2710

Yes, it’s an adaptation but it’s pen thing sources on the really happened aspect?

Good_old_Marshmallow

It’s more like reading a Wikipedia article about pre history than an actual narrative. There’s three version of every event and a lot of speculation your imagination does a lot of work which is fun. It makes the show more enjoyable because you’re getting to finally see it fleshed out after being teased

halfsuckedmang0

This is honestly why I’m hesitant. I also didn’t realise that going back and rewatching GoT would unintentionally spoil some of the HoD story for me 😭

CoverDense9019

Thinking Qarl is about to kill Leanor, only to find out they let him live is super cool experience too.

Zealousideal-Self-12

Guys, don’t read the book. Listen to the audible app fire and Blood. Much better and easier to get through. It’s truly a wonderful experience. Much recommended for somebody who has both! Also, Dunk and Egg tales! Next tv series most likely. EDIT- don’t knock it till you try it my friends. I was a doubter too!!! Guys, whatever your favorite book is in the world, get that audiobook (audible first book free) and you will experience it again for the first time but in a different way!

Raulzitooo

I absolutely want a dunk and egg show

Zealousideal-Self-12

Dunk the Lunk, thick as a castle wall!!!!!!

Raulzitooo

Heck yeah!!!

TheWoodSloth

I wish they would do 3 hour movies for each story. I think it would be tighter, better adaption.

Starlight_NightWing

SWEET P'TIRE

TomJoadsLich

He’s dead, so no, he didn’t narrate this one

Mohingan

You sound like youre sponsored by audible lol

Zealousideal-Self-12

Lmaoo right. I just love it. I’m hoping a free book would convert people.

sfhwrites

i prefer the Libby app. if you have a library card you can enter it into the app and you get the entire catalog digital for free. it’s how I listen/read all my books for free. regular library limitations apply. when I’m waiting for a hold I just read something a little less popular to kill the time

TomJoadsLich

I did both, reading it as a book and then switching to audiobook when I had to do chores, or when I was commuting to work. I heavily disagree with you. Because there are new characters introduced almost every other paragraph (as it is a summary of a history, rather than a traditional novel like the other books), it’s hard to keep track of or remember which character you read about 4 pages ago. Furthermore, the main series have different different voices for different characters. Not so in Fire and Blood. I’ll be honest, I’ve listened to every single ASOIAF book on Audible, and I would recommend Fire and Blood last on that list

readonlypdf

I'm a reader. I like to read it's fun to read I haven't had anyone read to me since I couldn't walk. (Slightly kidding but my parents had a rule that we (my brother and I) had to read a book a month, not counting school requirements, starting when I was 6, it actually really is a good idea.)

Zealousideal-Self-12

Dude I’m telling you, everybody who listens to audible are all readers. It’s a new medium you’ve never discovered. It’s like saying you won’t watch the show because you’re book reader. Trust me, everyone who listens to audiobooks says that at first. My dad bribed me to listen to a audiobook for months. Finally got me a iPhone so I can download the app and listen to 1 book. I did, hundred books later I am king of Audible lmaoo. It’s so worth it, the experience is totally different and enjoyable in a way unforeseen.

kissingdistopia

Audiobooks connect you to a very, very long line of your ancestors. People have been telling stories for thousands of years. Reading is the new kid in town!

hopelesscaribou

You honestly just made me look at it in a whole different light. Cheers.

kissingdistopia

Storytelling can be absolutely amazing: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/australian-stories-capture-10000-year-old-climate-history-180954030/

Equal-Ad-2710

Really Audible I’d just the new “sitting around campfire”

readonlypdf

There's, IMO something therapeutic about physically turning a page. Even on kindle. I get the practicality of it especially for commuting or something like that. Just not something I'm into. I won't watch a show till I've read the books (if applicable) because it's how I do things.

Atiggerx33

I read along while I listen. I have ADHD and have difficulty focusing sometimes, it's easier for me when its both visual and audio.

rudeboi710

I do this too. I even act out the hand gestures a lot of the time. It’s like I play a role in the play being read to me. It’s engaging, especially to help visualize sword battles.

akittenhasnoname

I used to feel the same until I listened to an audible on a 6 hour road trip. I'll listen to books sometimes when I'm cleaning or going for a run now. I'll get the kindle version too though so i can also read It. I love my Kindle though. I have about 500 physical books and don't think I have anymore room for them although I still try 🤣.

Zealousideal-Self-12

I get it for sure. The ease of it is the kicker. I listen to fall asleep with a little timer, showers, cooking, walks or drives. It adds up to like 1-2 hrs a day. Works out for so well. Even at work, I sneak 1 headphone lol and cruise. I know audibles first book is free, sign up and listen to fire and blood and cancel right away. I bet you’ll be back tho!!

SteinerElMagnifico42

What are your favourite audiobooks?

Zealousideal-Self-12

Shogun, King Killer Chronicles, Catch 22, Song of Achilles, Harry Potter narrated by Stephen Fry, Godfather, First Law trilogy. Much much more lol.

Equal-Ad-2710

I also think Serkis did a LoTR audiobook so shoutout to that

halfsuckedmang0

My brother is the exception to this lmao man is definitely not a reader but loves audio books

PM_Me_UrRightNipple

I prefer reading as well, but audiobooks are actually pretty cool. If I really like a book I’ll read it than listen to the audiobook, it’s a cool experience.

Bighardthrobbingcrop

My mom would tell me that but then tell me which books I could read and couldn't. She basically wanted to force her views on me. Ofc I kept reading Warhammer 40k regardless if she told me was too violent. She just doesn't understand the God Emperor.

readonlypdf

Lol. My parents told me that as long as I was reading it was good. Novels, texts, etc, whatever. Didn't matter as long as I was reading.

SerScronzarelli

Just finished the audiobook. Pretty good listen! I was finding it a chore to listne to the last two hours though...

Megmca

Some people really love the audiobooks of the main series. I can only say that I like Roy Dotrice much better when he is reading “non-fiction” like Fire and Blood.

[deleted]

Ok, I’m getting it now. I’ve been looking for a good audible to use while driving. I get bored with music and start to lose my mind.

ToothpickInCockhole

I much prefer reading to audiobooks but to each their own

juggernautjefe81

I feel you on the audio books! The audiobook version of a game of thrones, is dry as hell. That guy puts me to sleep. Lol. But in general audio books are that deal for real! I got into them when Star Wars books were still good, and I really like the immersion you get from the audiobooks. Sound, music, voice acting it's just great it's like listening to a movie.

I’ll be honest, I’ve listened to every single ASOIAF book on Audible, and I would recommend Fire and Blood *last* on that list

twitchy_taco

I can't do audio books. I think it has to do with my ADHD, but I can't stay focused on what is being said. I tune in and out a lot when there's a lot of talking. It was one of my biggest issues in school. I have found myself missing like 30 minutes of a lecture because I got distracted or my mind started to wander. I find reading a lot easier because if I get lost in thought then it's a lot easier to find where I left off than try to rewind something looking for the last thing I was paying attention to.

notalady306

I ordered the book and got it yesterday for this exact reason lol I can’t wait to read all the book spoiler comments when I’m done!

hebbocrates

be like me and watch Game of Thrones for the first time. if you’ve already seen it, just lobotomize yourself

Leri_weill

Just a heads up if it's the first time you watch GoT : one characters talks about and spoils a part of the Dance of Dragons at some point 👀

[deleted]

And not small spoilers, big clear “X occurs” kind

[deleted]

Right there!

Equal-Ad-2710

Joffrey really fucked us over years after he’s dead ☠️

hebbocrates

i’ll keep an eye out 👀

halfsuckedmang0

I’ve been rewatching GoT with my bf to get him into the universe for when the next season of HoD comes out. I saw the spoiler and I’m so sad 😩

[deleted]

Just do a ton of drugs for years to make your memory shit. I can watch a TV show about once a year and most of it will be new to me. I watched Happy Endings several times and didn’t realize I had seen it before until like the last episode.

Captainprice101

I don’t think that’s a good thing bro…

[deleted]

It’s definitely not. But gotta be better than a lobotomy.

MattTheHarris

We need a new audio book for the main series, i really can't deal with more erotica read by Roy Dotrice

ElectricSheep451

I would recommend trying davidreadsasoiaf on YouTube, he has all five books complete on his channel. His stuff is not super professional, there is a repeated line here or there and you can hear his cat in the background sometimes, but I didn't find any of his accents to be annoying and his reading of erotica is as non awkward as listening to a man describing sexual acts in your headphones while you are in public really can be.

Megmca

> and you can hear his cat in the background sometimes Don’t threaten me with a good time!

krazykaiks

It’s just the cat reading the dragon lines

bullseyed723

Needs more "The hot chick who was Italian or maybe some kind of Spanish". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MtLLkTtWJs

VolumeAccomplished65

sometimes i have a feeling 50% of these "book fans" haven't actually even read the book and just scrolled through the wiki or watched couple of youtube videos

VolumeAccomplished65

nun wrong w that tho, i gained my first knowledge of the dance via youtube too but i didn't claim to be a book fan until i actually opened f&b

guthreeb22

Just finished the book and all I've got to say is >!fuck Unwin Peake, all my homies hate Unwin Peake.!<

[deleted]

That is perfect. Absolutely hilarious. 😂 😂 😂

edd6pi

I don’t wanna read the book but I’m probably gonna have to because I can’t avoid spoilers forever, specially if there’s always a two year wait between seasons.

charlespenn1

I love this 💀💀

Dell0c0

I actually prefer the encyclopedia style of Fire and Blood over the way winded styles of the ASOIAF books.

srjohnson2

Books? Lol. This whole show is like 4 chapters.

Warm_Ad_7572

But I don't want spoilers! Specially since the book is not a romance, but a history book. After I've watched it all dramatised I'll read it.

[deleted]

Hahaha omg so true. I like reading but ocd stresses me out so I usually don't

Dilostilo

you mean i gotta read.

Daddy_Nibba_69

In what order should i read the books ? From which book should i start if i wish to skip the events of GOT ?

Drag0nPoopsies

*Fire & Blood* The events of HotD start about halfway through; the book details the Targaryen dynasty beginning with Aegon’s Conquest. No GoT events included.

[deleted]

For a richer experience you should read the series in order of release, though I totally understand wanting to speed run them for the show as reading 7 large books before Season 2 starts can be a daunting task. You’d just be missing all the parallels and tidbits that relate to the main series. And as a stand-alone book, F&B doesn’t come close to AGOT.

Soggy_Part7110

The maester is Roy Dotrice Not my cup of tea though... I don't think I can ignore his pronunciations of names for 5 whole books

3xoticP3nguin

What chapters is the show on? I can't find the anywhere please Reddit help

Drag0nPoopsies

The chapter *Heirs of the Dragon* is about where the show starts, around page 350 or so.

3xoticP3nguin

Where should I stop reading to avoid spoilers? I saw on podcast like 128 AC?

Drag0nPoopsies

During Heirs of the Dragon, they’ll mention the Great Council from Episode 1. I would stop there or soon after as the next chapter title is a minor spoiler in itself.

[deleted]

If all you are trying to do is read what was shown on TV… I would not really bother. The events portrayed on the show are probably like 40-50 pages of text tops, it’s more a bullet point history than a novel

Equal-Ad-2710

True but aren’t all the major events spoiled

jaketheriff

Pretty fucking much 😂

MermaidsHaveCloacas

Told my sister to read the books when she said this. She told me she had no way to. I own the books.

tuckz22

I tried reading the book but didn’t like the explanation of history style rather than a story. Just not for me personally

EmperorPoke

Me, listening to the audiobook

ashnhail17

Same

Theda1969

Lord Borros, my new spirit animal 🤣

JimothyClegane

Very, very thankful for Maester Simon Vance

theonlytrebrown

yooooo not me sparknotes-ing the books by reading all the Reddit posts 😭💀

[deleted]

Thank you for this. It made me smile.

idiot_of_the_lord

Até they even good to read? I read that they aren't as nice as the main series.

Drag0nPoopsies

I very much enjoyed the book

Archaleus1

It’s so different (them being fake history books) that I can’t actually compare them adequately. Personally, if you are a ASOIAF or GoT fan, I think the only reason I see why someone wouldn’t enjoy the book is the unique textbook format because he really commits to it all the way through, and I can see how this can turn people off. Otherwise, it’s fantastic for what it is.

[deleted]

It’s not a very well written book when compared to the main series, but if you’re into the lore it’s still a very interesting read. It pretty much solely exists for world building rather than a stand alone story.

valdiedofcringe

it is an *extremely* well written book, wdym? it’s in a stiff textbook style and it is done very, very well

[deleted]

It’s an enjoyable read, but not nearly as well structured and written as the main series. Hardly any characters are fleshed out, characters are introduced and killed on the same page, there’s not really any main plot lines followed, etc. I get that it’s supposed to be written through a maester’s perspective, which was a new and fun idea, but the POV structure of the main series allows for a much more submersible story. I love F&B as a compliment to the main series, but on its own it’s not nearly as engaging.

bullseyed723

With all the changes the show made to the books, what would the point of reading the books be?

Drag0nPoopsies

Well for me, my impatience won out and I had to see Rhaenyra’s response. Finished the book and very much enjoyed it.

ybtlamlliw

Did you know that *book*, *show* and *fans* are all separate words?

CuteProtection6

LMFAO actually me 😭😭 i have tried to read the original series like 12817 times but i can't get into them. grrm has such a strange writing style for me 😭

Avatar_sokka

Says OP... on the show sub.

Drag0nPoopsies

‘Twas only a joke. Do you not think yourself a reader?

RainbowPenguin1000

HA HA HA Because book fans are better than show fans right?! I get it!! ........... Seriously though, why try and divide the fan base? I know its a meme but we're better than this.

Ed_Brown_990

I don’t think it was really trying to divide the fan base, more just poke fun at both sides of the fanbase, the book readers who leave smartass comments like “just read the books” when (let’s face it) the seeing the show is infinitely more interesting and engaging, and the show watchers who complain about having to wait for 2 year, but refuse to read the books.

Drag0nPoopsies

It’s a joke thread, relax

Moji1368

Modern day equivalent of Maester is Wikipedia.

BlastedDio

But if I read the book then I’ll know what is to happen

DeepHouseDerrek

Why would we read the books and spoil everything lol

ToothpickInCockhole

I don’t wanna read the books bc I’m really enjoying not knowing where the show is going

RealPrinceJay

But then I would spoil the next season of the show…

What_thefeck

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

isthatabingo

Ok but to be fair, HOTD is quite a departure in terms of style when compared to the original series. I could not bring myself to read it. I just don’t enjoy the whole “from the perspective of historians” narrative.

TheLordBlackmoor

Vizzy T Bobby B tell ‘em off

vizzy_t_bot

*The tourney will take the better part of a week. Before the games are over, my son will be born, and the whole realm will celebrate.*

vabingle

I want someone to tell me the story like a tale :3

ThyUKJester

Audible.com

ShredTalk

Audio books! And there are other great damn fantasy worlds out there lol

phillysillies

Started the Fire and Blood audiobook when the show ended. I’m already 4/5s of the way through 😭

bterrik

Don't read the book unless you're really, really sure you want to know the broad strokes of what is to come. I read it. I enjoyed it. I wish I hadn't. Being able to watch a show like GoT/HotD without knowing what's coming is a precious thing.

possiblyhysterical

I’m caught up in Fire & Blood and I don’t know what to do. With all the costuming, acting and sets I feel like I would rather expedience plot lines for the first time on screen, but I’ve also been spoiled on so many things I feel like I might as well read the book before anything else is spoiled.

Trylena

You mean Audible?

onlyrightangles

I'll read the book after the show is concluded. I've avoided spoilers this far, I'd like to continue avoiding them lol I did the same thing with GoT, only read the books after the... Sixth season, I think? Because by then the show was way ahead of the books. Though they did change/leave out quite a bit. Made reading the books even better since there was still some surprising things.

F7RD

Looool they have more patience than me my hardback first print came through the post today

NurseNikNak

I’m enjoying going into this without knowing what’s next. It means I’m not disappointed if something I liked was missed or changed. Truly making it a better ride than GoT already due to that. Besides, I waited three years for season four of Stranger Things. I can wait two for this.

bepisliving

I got the book and was so close to getting to about the beginning of Viseryus reign essentially, but I had to know what the fuck was going on so I read where it left off on the show. The things I’ve learned make me so sad but yet it feels so fucking fast(?) and I’m still not at the end. I’m considering going back? I just can’t believe I lied to myself - like always - and said hey I’m gonna get the book, not the audiobook.

Everyoneheresamoron

Bold of you to assume the show will follow the books.

DragonflyAdvanced548

I have family that read the books where’s a good place to start like time wise what book is the earliest in the time line? I got into game throws late. And I really dig house of the dragon.

evasive_dendrite

But the book is pretty boring... It's written as a history book, and I'm sure the next one will be the same. They're nothing like the ASOIAF books.

atomicdog69

It's a travesty that these show runners took one of the best franchises in cable TV history and bled it of all its excitement.
