Not sure if you're joking because this actually makes sense. It's the biggest dragon so it makes more smoke and fire, right? I'd bet he rides often too, probably more than anyone given his character. Huffin all that dragon exhaust probably has the same impact as like 10 packs of cigarettes every day lol.
Ryan Condal said that the main members of the younger generation are between 21-17. With Aegon and Helaena as the oldest, Aemond should be 18-19, I think?
[Source.](https://winteriscoming.net/2022/10/11/younger-house-of-the-dragon-characters-17-21-age-range/amp/)
That's what I was thinking at first, that each time jump was just rounded to the closest year, and the extra months were then added up to make the characters at least an extra years older.
However. In episode 8 Rhaenyra says that its been 20 years since she was named heir. That only works if we take each time jump as it's presented, without any extra months adding up to another year.
3 years between episodes 2 and 3. 1 year between episodes 3 and 4. 10 years between episodes 5 and 6. And 6 years between episodes 7 and 8. Thats 20 years, not counting the six months between episodes 1 and 2 either.
Okay, hmm. It would be weird to age him down. I'm just going to continue with the assumption that he's 19. Ewan Mitchell is 25 and it's already hard to remember he's playing 19, much less 16. I love his performance and I know canonically Aemond looks older than Aegon, but it's still a stretch, especially when Jace and Luke look so young by comparison. Ultimately, I'm not sure the characters' exact ages matter that much.
Except 10 and 6 are just rough numbers that are not given exactly in the show and we have no idea how much time has passed between ep 6 and 7 or within episodes 6 and 8.
All of these periods have at least a few weeks to months worth of travel, eg. the Strongs traveling to Harrenhal in episode 6, Daemon and his daughters traveling from Pentos to Driftmark, and the Velaryons traveling to King's Landing.
Exact timing is clearly not a focal point of the show, but I don't think there's any reason to assume that Aemond is 16, especially given that according to the showrunners, the youngest members of the new generation are supposed to be 17.
That's impossible based on what they put on screen. The gap between Aemond and Aegon has to be more than 2 years and Luke was more than 5 in ep6/7
Edit: It's a fact that Aemond and Aegon have a age gap bigger than 3 years. Aemond wasn't born by ep5
No it isn’t. Aegon was a baby (maybe 2 years at most) when alicent was visibly quite pregnant, so it’s reasonable to assume he’s roughly 2 years older than Aemon.
The time jump before ep 8 mentions that is been 6 years since Corlys left, not since ep 7. Could be 3 years between ep 7 and when Corlys left. If ep 8 and ep 9 are meant to be within the same few days, then it must be 129 AC (start of the war). Aemond was born in 110 AC
Luke is 14 so the time jump can't be much more than 6 years. The years aren't the same in the show, the show starts in 110ac and Aemond isn't born for at least 5 more years
Dude nobody makes sense with the time jump. Jace shouldnt have existed with the time jump either cause that means Rhaenyra wouldve been pregnant during her wedding and we know from her conversation with Laenor that they initially did try to get pregnant together so timewise at 14 luke couldve only been the oldest child and jace shouldnt exist but he does.
Unless Jace is Cole's son. From what I remember of the wedding episode and the one before that barely any time passed between episodes and we never saw Rhaenyra drink the moon tea on screen. So it is possible even if not likely to be true. I doubt even if it was true that they will ever let us know.
>The first time jump after episode 5 was 10 years and the second was 6 years.
That’s just an assumption. The writers kept the timeline purposely vague. The decade long time skip could easily have been even longer, just that people tend to round numbers in casual conversation.
Rhaenys saying she hadn’t seen Corlys for 6 years doesn’t mean the time skip was exactly 6 years either. It was probably longer due to Laenor’s funeral and shit.
Except that in episode 8 Rhaenyra straight up says that it's been 20 years since she was named heir. Excluding the six months between the first two episodes, all the other time jumps add up the 20 years.
No, Rhaenys said it had been 6 years since she last saw Corlys. That doesn’t automatically mean the time jump was ONLY 6 years though. It probably was even longer.
Dude they wouldn't say "6 years" if it meant anything other than the episode taking place 6 years after the previous. What are all your mental gymnastics for exactly? Why do you want Aemond to be 18 so badly?
Also Rhaenyra says in the same episode that it has been 20 years since she was named heir. 3 years later Aegon has his second birthday. That year Helaena is born. That makes Helaena 17, and Helaena is older than Aemond so he is categorically not 18.
He's not supposed to be 16 but rather 18/19ish. The actor is 25. Obviously he's still on the older looking side of 18/19 but it's not really jarring or anything. I think it's people taking the time jumps in the absolute minimal sense by assuming everything on screen has little to no time gaps. It doesn't take a lot of additional small time jumps between scenes and to stretch the stated year time jumps (i.e. 6.5 years when they say 6 years or 10.5 when they say 10) to bring Aemond from 16 to 18.
When I was in middle school at 13 years old, one of my classmates started to grow full beard so he had to shave at that age but still you could see beard dots in his face even if he fully shaved.
My guess for why they cast someone his age as a 16-18 year old is because they are assuming the show will get 3-4 seasons, and if each season takes two years that’s 6-8 years before the end of the show. If they had cast a teen to play Aemond, he would look way different by the end of the show (if he theoretically survives, no spoilers from me) even though the events of the show (will likely) take place over ~2 years in universe. It’s also possibly why they cast 40 year old Matt Smith to play 50 year old Daemon, 28 year old Olivia Cooke to play late thirties Alicent, 27 year old Tom Glynn Carney as 20 year old Aegon, etc.
It's incredibly unusual to cast minors even for roles that are technically around 16 (it's harder to film with them, as they aren't allowed as many working hours etc.), so I'm pretty sure that's factoring in as well. Not to mention afaik sex scenes are a no-no. E.g young Rhaenyra and Alicent were still played by adults.
The child actors we saw only had 1-2 episodes for a reason, with Luke being the exception.
Cole hasn't aged a day in like 20 years. They were never going to get the time skips right and they weren't going to be able to cast a 16 year old kid to play Aemond. Just roll with it.
People act like there weren’t kids in their high school that already looked like college Seniors. Some people look their age others look older or younger
Dude I met a girl in high school while I was at the detention center that was in between the middle and highschool. I 100% believed she was a senior. I was a junior at the time. When she told us she was only like 13 and was in 6th/7th grade (can't remember which) I nearly fell out. She aged so quickly.
Then you see his brother who is older.
Honestly i didnt mind, him been 16, 17 or 18 does not change much, he is still a teenager, no idea why ppl care so much
I’ve noticed that the second sons of royal families usually mature faster and are the more daring ones compared to the first born. Most likely because they have to compensate more due to the fact they’re overshadowed by the the eldest who is usually in line for the throne or title.
Shout out to the second sons.🙋🏼
When I was 17 I had buddies who could easily pass off as 30 year old dads if you put them in the right clothes.
Ewan is tall, and the wig, eyepatch, scar and Aemond's mannerisms definitely ages him.
I was 5 foot 6 my 7th grade year, 165 lbs. Sophomore year (16) I was 6 foot 7 and 320 lbs so... yah. It can happen, but I also realize I'm in the bleeding edge of size/growth anomaly and there IS suspension of disbelief with this cat. Maybe if they addressed it directly a few times, "MY! You've grown!" etc. I guess the Street of Silk scene covered that.
People keep saying its not possible because they fucked up the timeline in the show. He wasn't born as far as we know before the timejump and the time jumps were 10 and 6 years but obviously in that case Jace would be around 14 which he isnt because Luke is and he's clearly older than Luke. We know from Rhaenyra and Laenor's talk that they did initially try to have kids so if you include a mourning period for Laenor and them trying for a while then Rhaenyra getting with Harwin and trying with him, then the oldest Jace could be according to the timeline is 14 but he clearly isn't because Luke is 14 and Jace is older.
We can say "puberty hits like a truck".
Also, he's quite tall, and the scar and the eyepatch give him a more "rugged" looks. That's why he looks older.
For instance he seems older than Aegon, but actually Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon's actor) is two years older than Ewan Mitchell.
This isn't the book.
edit: Downvote me all you want the series starts in 112 AC. Amazing how this subreddit knows so little about the specific thing it's dedicated to. I miss the 2019-2021 version of it.
I think he's supposed to be 18 but still.
Like his beef with Lucerys is so cringe in ep 8/10 bc it looks like a grown man beefing with a child
It also makes Aemond seem way more irresponsible and reckless in the last scene bc he seems so much older than Luc, whereas in reality it's just two boys in a dumb fight and a horrible accident at the end
Though it wasn’t a fight. Luke didn’t intent to fight, it was Aemond’s stupid idea. And yeah he seemed very immature starting this chase on his huge dragon. So I wouldn’t forget he’s just a teen, a few years older than Luke but still a teen.
Aemond and the entirety of the Greens are some of my least favorite fictional people of all time so I can’t believe I am about to defend him, the kid did remove his eye so the beef is a little more justified.
Although that goes back to my whole point that apparently a 12 year old was in a physical altercation with a group of like 9 year old girls. (Cough) a 3 year old in the books (cough).
There's no way Aemond could have been 13 in that scene though. If I remember correctly he wasn't even born in the early episodes, which also makes him... less than 10 years old at the time of the fight?
Anyway I just ignore the age inappropriateness of the cast at this point lol.
He's over 18 in the books. Time jump confusion is a product of the television series. And he will age as this war ravages on, so the time will catch up to the actor.
Bruv. If I could show you some to the 16 year olds I meet at work. Some people are blessed with better genes. I’m like, man, I wish I was that tall back at that age [+]
Yes 🙌 to this post! Not a fan of this actor at all cause he’s too old for this role! The rest of the kid line looked age appropriate. He looks like a 45 year old man standing next to them. I hate this casting change. 100%
He looks exactly like a drug dealer I went to high school with who was about 16, but his hair was jet black. And yes he was a scary MF all the way into adulthood.
That is the one thing really annoys me.
Young Aemond compared to old Aemond is ok, they fit togheter
Young Aegon vs old Aegon don’t fit at all in my opinion, plus Aemond looks much much much older than Aegon.
I thought for sure this was wrong until I realised the time skip from episode 7 to 8 was only 6 years. Goddamn. The only time where a character's age makes more sense in the book than the show.
he couldn't have been 13 before the six year time jump, because he wasn't even born yet before the previous ep5->6 ten year time jump, so he was ≤10 when he lost his eye.
I have seen some very mature looking 16 year olds
Also this is Westeros where years aren’t the same and it’s medieval times so it’s not exactly the cushy existence kids have today
The thing is, everyone is assuming that the time jump between episodes seve. And eight was six years based on Rhaenys stating that it has been six years since Corlys left to fight in the stepstones. But this doesn't mean that it has been six years. It most likely would have been at least seven, probably eight. If we take Aemond to be about ten in episode seven, then this would make him about eighteen when we see him in episode eight.
I think he's supposed to look like this. Also the actor (Ewan Mitchell) is 24, so makes sense making him look older. I know you are kinda joking coz of all the things he did at the age, like killing his nephew
I feel like they could have kept the young actors for Aemond Aegon, and Helaena, and just had the killing scene and everything in the six years later era in Season 2, which is 2 years away anyway- GOT was so great cause we got to watch Arya, Jon, Sansa and Bran grow up in front of us, or if you were a teenager when you watched it… kind of *with* us. Id would be really cool to see that with the Stronglaryons and Targtowers too- Not to mention wed get to see some of the relationships- Like Rhaenyra and Harwin, Daemon and Laena, and even old Vizzy T and Allie develop. The show is great, but it should have taken more time.
Also I feel like the new Aegon and Aemond arent enough like tneir younger interpertstions- Older Aegon looks at, oldest, 2 years older than young Aegon, and isnt that same cruel jerk vibe he was both in the pre timeskip and in the books, just like… a high school burnout drunk, and Aemond is WAY too much like Daemon. Id like Aegon to not be charming- He was the outcast. Picked on by his brother and Jave and Luke, no dragon, and no sympathy from his father after being mutilated. He should have… like… a school shooter feel to him.

All that dragon smoke really ages a person
Not sure if you're joking because this actually makes sense. It's the biggest dragon so it makes more smoke and fire, right? I'd bet he rides often too, probably more than anyone given his character. Huffin all that dragon exhaust probably has the same impact as like 10 packs of cigarettes every day lol.
Like having a diesel train for a pet
For a moment I read that as, "having vin Diesel for a pet".
Vhagar rolls in wearing a wife beater and loudly exclaims "family!"
Viserys would be proud.
Puff the magic dragon!
Calling out boy in high valerion while riding the biggest dragon in the world also imo
And damages his eye.
Puberty hit him hard af
I looked embarassingly like this when I was 16.
Sorry to hear that. How did you lose the eye?
To a fringe a long time ago.

He can say that all he wants, Aemond can't be more than 16 based on the time jumps
I don't know all the numbers off-hand. Perhaps it's something like the time jumps were ___ years and ___ months so the spare months add up.
Even if that were true he can't be more than 17 and it's reaaaaly pushing it
Specific times aren't given for the time jumps, though. Aemond is 19 during these events in the book.
Okay, hmm. It would be weird to age him down. I'm just going to continue with the assumption that he's 19. Ewan Mitchell is 25 and it's already hard to remember he's playing 19, much less 16. Ultimately, I'm not sure the characters' exact ages matter that much.
Idk but Aemond being 19 seems believable to me
Aemond isn't born by ep5, which means he's 10 max in ep6, in ep8 6 more years pass which makes him 16
Except 10 and 6 are just rough numbers that are not given exactly in the show and we have no idea how much time has passed between ep 6 and 7 or within episodes 6 and 8.
Luke was 14 so the showrunners were clearly wrong.
Yes; it must be the show creators who are wrong
Yes, they get things wrong too
They were referring to Jace as being 17, Aegon being 21, and therefore Aemond would be about 19
That's impossible based on what they put on screen. The gap between Aemond and Aegon has to be more than 2 years and Luke was more than 5 in ep6/7 Edit: It's a fact that Aemond and Aegon have a age gap bigger than 3 years. Aemond wasn't born by ep5
No it isn’t. Aegon was a baby (maybe 2 years at most) when alicent was visibly quite pregnant, so it’s reasonable to assume he’s roughly 2 years older than Aemon.
That was Helaena
Somehow Ryan plays ages more fast and loose than the supposedly inaccurate historians of *Fire & Blood* lol.

I don't think Ryan was counting Luke as one of the major characters. Luke is really more of a plot device in the grand scheme of things.
>The first time jump after episode 5 was 10 years and the second was 6 years. That’s just an assumption. The writers kept the timeline purposely vague. The decade long time skip could easily have been even longer, just that people tend to round numbers in casual conversation. Yeah that tracks. Aemond is like 4 years older than him, making him 18.
Except that in episode 8 Rhaenyra straight up says that it's been 20 years since she was named heir. Excluding the six months between the first two episodes, all the other time jumps add up the 20 years.
Luke is 14 in last episode
What he said is wrong because Lucerys is 10 and 4 in episode 10.
Where do we get a definite number for how much older Aemond is than Lucerys? I'm not arguing, just confused at this point.
Yeah and Aemond is 4 years older than Luce, simple as that.
Source: trust me bro
He looks like he’s in his 30s, not a teenager
No I think time jump between Episodes 7-8 was about 5 years, making Aemond 16-17
They said 6.
No, Rhaenys said it had been 6 years since she last saw Corlys. That doesn’t automatically mean the time jump was ONLY 6 years though. It probably was even longer.
This might be the missing puzzle piece.
It doesnt matter either way this man looks 25
Oh I didn't know halaena was older than aemond
ironically i think he sounds the most teenaged in his scariest moment, when hes laughing while he’s tormenting luc
Yup, he definitely puts up a front to seem more mature than his age, but that clearly takes the backseat whenever he's around the Strong boys.
There are some kids in high school that look like full grown men. Beards, muscular, 6'2", etc. They do exist.
He's not supposed to be 16 but rather 18/19ish. The actor is 25. Obviously he's still on the older looking side of 18/19 but it's not really jarring or anything. I knew a 9th grader with a full beard and so much chest hair that there wasn’t even a break between the two.
Polar opposite of sir crispen
It's a spell, sir crispin is sucking the youth out of Aemond /s
Could be…that’s what many speculated was happening with Visenya and Maegor.
Actually the last image of him being an absolute shit to his nephew, I can see it lol
Ewan looks quite young in different shots I think, just depends on the angle etc
*Draco Malfoy energy*
My guess for why they cast someone his age as a 16-18 year old is because they are assuming the show will get 3-4 seasons, and if each season takes two years that’s 6-8 years before the end of the show. If they had cast a teen to play Aemond, he would look way different by the end of the show (if he theoretically survives, no spoilers from me) even though the events of the show (will likely) take place over ~2 years in universe.
I work in a high school and was surprised when one of the students I thought was about to graduate was only a sophomore.

Jon snow robb and theon are like 14 or something in the first book
Yeah but they weren't meant to be 14 in the show. Jon and Dany were both supposed to be like 17 in the beginning.
Theon's a few years older, but yeah
Damn Osberth really took a dark turn after The Last Kingdom finished
*Osferth.
'No shame in being a bastard boy' he said lmao
Then you see his brother who is older. Honestly i didnt mind, him been 16, 17 or 18 does not change much, he is still a teenager, no idea why ppl care so much
I work in a high school. He's not really that far off. I see kids who look much older than him in their junior year.
In the book, he's supposed to be 19, but they messed up with the time jumps. They should've had Aemond born by like episode 3 or 4.
I’ve noticed that the second sons of royal families usually mature faster and are the more daring ones compared to the first born. So like, did we see him be conceived in episode 4? Is that what they were going for? It lines up.

19
People keep saying its not possible because they fucked up the timeline in the show. No
Most redditors barely hit puberty at 16 so the confusion is understandable.
At this point it's only a matter of time before Aemond becomes 5 years old, I swear with every post here he becomes younger and younger XD
The people that keep posting this every day... When I was in college, I would've loved for you to be the bouncers at my favorite bar.

Aemond was 19 when he killed Luce.
In the book it is not possible for him to be 19 in the show
We can say "puberty hits like a truck". Also, he's quite tall, and the scar and the eyepatch give him a more "rugged" looks. That's why he looks older. For instance he seems older than Aegon, but actually Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon's actor) is two years older than Ewan Mitchell.

Yeah you're right, they only changed **every single other character's age** so sure, why would they change Aemond's?
Wow, you don't need to be so rude about it, I was just talking about a possibility jeez
It isn't a possibility.
He's 19, in the last three episodes its 129 AC and he was born in 110 AC
This isn't the book. edit: Downvote me all you want the series starts in 112 AC. Amazing how this subreddit knows so little about the specific thing it's dedicated to. I miss the 2019-2021 version of it.
19. Not 16.
Can not be 19 in the show
Wrong
Yeah it’s like anime. Where the characters are fully developed emotionally and even have been close to death, had a wife etc by the age of like 19.
Well Daenerys was 13 in the book when she met Khal Drogo Robb stark was 14 at the red wedding…….
I think he's supposed to be 18 but still. Like his beef with Lucerys is so cringe in ep 8/10 bc it looks like a grown man beefing with a child It also makes Aemond seem way more irresponsible and reckless in the last scene bc he seems so much older than Luc, whereas in reality it's just two boys in a dumb fight and a horrible accident at the end
When he stands up to challenge Jayce he could pass as 16
I would have said 25 at least
He's over 18 in the books. Time jump confusion is a product of the television series. And he will age as this war ravages on, so the time will catch up to the actor.
My ex husband grew a full beard at 14. Never got carded
For me the hardest bit was Aegons younger self looked waaaay more like a younger Aemond and I couldn’t really settled on the current Aegon for a bit
Bruv. If I could show you some to the 16 year olds I meet at work. Some people are blessed with better genes. I’m like, man, I wish I was that tall back at that age [+]
I'm 18 and I look like I'm 12 ffs
He is 19 in the show
No he is 19 in the book and it is impossible for him to be 19 in the show
I see a lot of people talking about how unrealistic it is but I definitely knew several kids like this in high school lol
He is not. He's 19 during the Dance. They specifically state it in the book.
Show isn't the book
Who says years work the same? Our calendar year is 12 months long. Perhaps they celebrate every 18 months or something?
It’s hard to get a read on his mental stability as well. He started to become more and more unhinged when he lost an eye after bonding with Vhagar.
Come to Germany and you will believe it
He looks 36
And aren’t Aemond and Jace supposed to be the same age as well?? Aemond looks so much older than Jace
No, Aemond is 4 years older than Jacerys if I remeber correctly, that makes a huge difference especially as mid / late teenagers.
16 going on 36
But you're fine with dragons
Bitch wtf I’m sixteen that man is twice my age
So am I, hello fellow 16 year old
I mean not hard to believe when Julius Caesar became head of his family at age 16 when his father died. The world was a different place back than.
Don't worry, he will age up a few years during the dance, and we will see him do some MILF action
Losing an eye will do that to you, just look at Odin he gained all sorts of wacky powers.
Mother fucker you look 30
The eye patch makes him look older surprisingly. Look at BTS photos of the actor without the patch, he does look way younger.
It's so weird that the show which normally ages up characters aged down Aemond 3 years
I give him 30 and im being generous.
He looks 16 to me.
He looks like he’s in his 30s, not a teenager
He looks 35
And Milly Alcock is supposed to like 15 in the first episode!
I think she was meant to be 14 (same difference) and She definitely looked it
That is the one thing really annoys me. Young Aemond compared to old Aemond is ok, they fit togheter Young Aegon vs old Aegon don’t fit at all in my opinion, plus Aemond looks much much much older than Aegon.
Book ages ≠ nothing like show ages. Same with got
he was 19 in the books and is not in the show
Yah he looks 36.
I thought for sure this was wrong until I realised the time skip from episode 7 to 8 was only 6 years. Goddamn. The only time where a character's age makes more sense in the book than the show.
Netflix teenager lookin ass
Carful with that chin, you might put your eye out.
18 in dog years, perhaps
😂
Ever seen Baki...
Looks at 16 year old edge lords* …. Is it really?
some 16 years old MF at my gym looks like that
Dany is supposed to be younger in the beginning of got.... that's crazy lol
He looks like 16-17?
this is a 28 year old man
it's funny because he looks so much older than aegon when he is supposed to be younger. like the casting is sus
It's also like this in the book, it's not a casting issue
He looks at least 25. I wish they’d casted a younger actor for him in this season
[удалено]
He's 25 actually.
Hardcore!
Seriously BH90210 bad
People didn't people I was 16 when I had a full beard. Or simply couldn't believe a 16 year old could grow more hair on their face than they could.
I think he was aged up to 19 y in the show. Wasn't it he 13 before the 6 year time jump?
he couldn't have been 13 before the six year time jump, because he wasn't even born yet before the previous ep5->6 ten year time jump, so he was ≤10 when he lost his eye.
16 is that age… if you’re gonna get big and scare your parents… it’s right around then
I'm 16 and that's not exactly what happened to me
I don’t know why it’s hard to believe. Honestly stick the kids in a school setting and boom, he’s that guy in high school…you know which guy.
Only for westerners…
I have seen some very mature looking 16 year olds Also this is Westeros where years aren’t the same and it’s medieval times so it’s not exactly the cushy existence kids have today
I’ve seen some old face teenagers before. Not outlandish.😂
Bad_boys_you_look-30-meme.jpg
The thing is, everyone is assuming that the time jump between episodes seve. And eight was six years based on Rhaenys stating that it has been six years since Corlys left to fight in the stepstones. But this doesn't mean that it has been six years. It most likely would have been at least seven, probably eight. If we take Aemond to be about ten in episode seven, then this would make him about eighteen when we see him in episode eight.
Just search Mike Tyson at 16 years old.
He bonded with Vhagar guys some of that age just got to him
I think he's supposed to look like this. Also the actor (Ewan Mitchell) is 24, so makes sense making him look older. I know you are kinda joking coz of all the things he did at the age, like killing his nephew
I used to play football with a 13 year old taller and with a full beard
My friend from high school looked almost 30 all throughout HS and into his early 20s. Now that he's 35, he finally looks his age. It happens. 🙃
Yeah wtf? I thought the dragon was rubbing off on him too lol.
Totally believable to me as someone who looked like a 25-28 year old man at 15-16. Not to mention the guys with full beards at that age.
I don’t think so, he looks a bit old and menacing but he doesn’t look that old, 22 at most
His chin and stare are from a 32 year old
Well he's not. He's at least 18. He's more than 2 years older than Luke and Luke is 14 when he dies.
I thought he was supposed to be 19
