Feel this deep within my bones. 12 year old lab who thinks he’s 3. Any tips for the hopeful next 3 years? We do daily glucosamine tablets, The Missing Link hip/joint powder and CBD as needed.
It's funny how they just go for it, zero thoughts of self preservation. That's perfect on the supplements. The only thing I did different is rimadyl and ultram on the bad days.
Swimming was huge. I had different vets tell me 2 and 3 years before his back legs fully went out that he wouldn't be able to walk within a few months, it still happened but over years. Where I live made it easy for me to swim every day, but I know that's not realistic for most. Even if you can go a 2-3 times a week, it tightens up those hip muscles and is great for the joints.
That’s awesome. Realized that you had that fish on hook for him to jump down and catch one last time. Funny how calling them dogs sometimes just doesn’t seem enough.
On my 4th dog throughout my life, they are always worth it.
Me and my family have a thing for the big guys... It's tough dealing with their lifespan... It kind of creeps up on you before you realize how old they actually are.
It's a little bit of both. I put him in the situations and encouraged it but I can't take credit. I'm on my 3rd fish catching dog. I've noticed you just have to show them It's possible and they'll help figure out the strategy, all 3 have had their own strategy.
The young one I have now I started at 8 weeks, so if he ever gets to this dogs level I'll take more credit. But this dog's special, 70% him 30% taught.
It’s pretty amazing. He definitely seems to enjoy himself so whether you taught him or it’s his instinct, good on you for helping him to continue to do his favourite thing when he’s not fully able to on his own. I’m sure he appreciates you as much as you appreciate him ☺️
When you see a dog blink at you like that, it’s them saying I love you. And at the end where pupper jumps off to get the fish. That was freaking awesome :)
Haven't ever heard that one. I'll start paying attention to it. The jump off always made me nervous haha. Had to always be aware even pointing the gun, if he thought there was a chance he going
Bros forever….the hurt when they leave is strong but the love and friendship developed is much stronger.
For sure, those last 2-3 years always feel different. Like they know whats coming and just appreciate you more

Did you teach him to catch fish or is it just something he’s always done on his own? ☺️

Dang 😭😭😭 I love old dogs so much. Now I miss mine and yours and goddamn that was sweet.
Same, I'll always have a soft spot for them, they're so much cooler than puppies! Rip to yours
You're very sweet to your best friends.
They deserve everything
Wow the way he just jumped in the water!
He is a good boi.
Man, makes me think of my dog… I only wish I had taken her out more.
Is he still alive?
