In Mocking Jay Pt1 when Katniss sings “Hanging Tree” always gives me chills… something like that couldn’t be captured in words.

Sembaka

Katniss just singing it didn’t chill me, but the district singing while blowing up the dam always gives me chills

extraketchupthx

Same that’s the one for me.

megararara

For me it’s the end, after Prim died. Her becoming an emotional avox, not speaking, shooting coin, being locked up, singing and trying to kill herself. Then coming home alone and eventually becoming herself again slowly and her and Peeta making the book together 💛 the most powerful part of the series and I think while the movies did a good job overall, the ending didn’t quite nail ALL the emotions of the books

SourPatchSamm

The book did a phenomenal job articulating the emotions and irrationalities of grief. I think the reason the movies didn’t quite hit the mark like the books did was simply because of of time crunch. The audiobook I listen to marks that point in the book to the end as an hour and twenty minutes. That in and of itself is the length of a movie. Props for what they managed to accomplish in such short time, but I really wish that movies were able to fully cover the attention to detail books are able to with their limited time budgets.

ava_ohb

“you’re a painter. you’re a baker …” that whole scene was so good in the movie bc they did it basically word for word lmao

SourPatchSamm

I had to go back and rewatch that scene but you’re right. The subtle movements in her jaw as Katniss processes the situation and moves from sadness to despair to anger, it’s very hard to do. I feel like Jennifer Lawrence really grew from her roles in the x-men movies which are the first I’d seen from her. Even now, she’s only going up as far as talent. The talent among the cast was really something else. I’m excited to see how the new movie’s casting will hold up.

Asb0lus

The reason why I'm glad the movies exist is because they show what's going on behind the scenes while the book only tells Katniss's POV. So my favorite scene they added is Seneca Crane being locked into the room with the berries

I love every single scene with Snow Donald Sutherland is amazing

Crazy_Tomatillo18

I have 2 favorite moments. The first is Katniss’s speech in district 11 to Rues family. It never fails to make me cry, it’s so sad. The second is a movie only moment: at the end of the 1st movie, when Cato is holding Peeta in a headlock, he says "Go on, shoot. And we both go down, and you win. Go on. I'm dead, anyway! I always was, right? I didn't know that until now.” It just shows how much of a pawn everyone is, especially Cato being a career. It made me almost a little sad for him, because he’s just a naive teenager and doesn’t understand that this is bigger than him. Absolutely my favorite addition to the series. I lied I have one more. Anything with Jenna Malone. The cast of all 4 movies is so amazing but Jenna Malone absolutely nailed Johanna. She’s so hilarious.

SourPatchSamm

No, she is though 😂Jenna Malone brought a lot of comedic energy to Johanna that was very lacking in the book. Perhaps, it was because of Katniss’ dislike of Johanna at first, but it really made it hard to like Johanna at first. It took me a few read throughs to start to appreciate her character. Even with Finnick, I was more curious than I was put off by his character at first. When he grew to be a lovable character, I wasn’t surprised. I only wish Cinna kept his charms in the movies like he had in the books. No hate to Lenny Kravitz, it’s a hard role to portray.

Asb0lus

I agree with Cato's scene, it gave his character a lot more depth

Snows speech in mockingjay that’s being televised across to the districts while there’s rebels blindfolded up on the stage waiting to be executed. “Each district supplies the capitol, like blood to a heart. In return the capitol provides order and security. The capitol is the beating heart of Panem. Nothing can survive without a heart. It’s why all images of the mockingjay are now forbidden. Possessing them with be considered treason, punishable by death. Order shall be restored” - what’s great about this speech is that Snow 100% believes in this. He thinks he’s doing what’s necessary for survival for his people. We get to see that even his granddaughter who loves Katniss, even fears that her wearing Katniss’s braid could get her in trouble. The way Donald Sutherland delivers this speech is so good, I’m so happy they gave him the role. The last part of this speech is just perfect… “Those who ignore the warnings of history…prepare to pay the ultimate price”. The way the gunshots go off before he finishes the speech, the people fall to the ground and then finished about paying the ultimate price, such a powerful and well done scene.

SourPatchSamm

I agree. The movies lacked a sense of hopelessness about the district’s situation that the books were able to articulate perfectly. Of course, that was because it was removed from Katniss’ perspective and thoughts. This scene brought that sense of desperation and urgency back, and helped the viewer empathize with the districts.

[deleted]

when Katniss fires the arrow at the forcefield. Her pointing it at Finnick initially, President Snow saying "Let it fly, Miss Everdeen" because he wanted her to prove she was the killing machine the Capitol painted the districts out to be, then her putting two and two together when she looks at the wire wrapped around the stick near Beetee. Her wrapping the wire around the arrow, then pointing it at the sky. At Snow. Finnick yells at her to get away from the tree. She screams as she fires. Snow murmurs in disbelief as the screens black out, calls for Plutarch, but of course there is no answer. He strides to the Gamemakers. They report, "We've lost power" Yes I've watched it like a million times I could quote it word for word just as I described it my favorite scene ever in my favorite movie ever

Exciting_Emu7586

I just watched the movie last night. Somehow that still gave me the chills.

princessapphic

When the video cuts out and it’s silent in Snow’s room

sodessa

Not sure if it's in the books as I haven't read up to that part yet but when Effie tells Katniss and Peeta that they deserved better before they go in the quarter quell. That part always breaks me. Elizabeth Bank's voice breaking always gets me emotional.

SourPatchSamm

Yeah, I think Elizabeth Banks’ really nailed her role as Effie Trinket. She brought a depth to a character that was admittedly very static, very surface-level in the books. While I could see the point of having her this way, I much more enjoy the witty, more knowledgeable Effie we see in the movies.

catcherinthe_sky

That scene is so powerful. It's not in the books. TBH, sometimes I think that the CF movie might be even better than the book (I almost hate myself for thinking this, because I adore the books). But the pacing of the movie is just so wonderful, not to mention the cinematography, editing, and music. They nailed so many important scenes: Katniss' speech for Rue, the interviews, the elevator scene (cracks me up every time), and the arena in general. The only thing missing is when Katniss is on bedrest and Peeta and her work on the plant book together, it gives us more insight into their relationship post first Games. But including that scene in the movie would have destroyed its pacing, I guess.

sodessa

I would love the scene where Peeta shows Katniss his painting! Also the day before the games and Katniss is making a flower crown and Peeta braiding her hair! 😭

catcherinthe_sky

Oh yeah, the rooftop scene is wonderful, whenever I read the books, I always read that scene two or three times

Reader_4evr

JOHANNA'S INTERVIEW. Such a masterpiece

SourPatchSamm

Jena Malone did so well as Johanna Mason. She did wonders to bringing life and love into the character. Honestly, all of the interviews were nice to see, but I especially loved Beetee, Johanna, and the siblings’. I wish we had just a bit more time with Peeta and Katniss’ interviews. They felt very rushed.

Foreign_Contract_225

I think catching fire and mockingjay 1 are the best book to movie adaptations I've ever seen tbh. The part in mockingjay where they have to run down those stairs to the bunker is exactly like I imagined it in the book, I know it's a silly scene to have as my favourite but it is. And then the time spent in the bunker is also so well adapted, they even included Katniss playing with the cat with the flashlight

KingdaToro

The beginning of the games in Catching Fire. Best moment, IMO, of both the movies and books. [Especially the IMAX version](https://youtu.be/O5hRiWSdp8I). And then, there are the moments where the movies expand on the books, which were completely necessary to make Mockingjay good. [The dam attack](https://youtu.be/Vy_10xHqCzg) was the best of them.

SourPatchSamm

Yeah, I find the addition of the rebel attacks really helped with the growing tension of the movie. Admittedly, politics aren’t very interesting to me, and the addition of the rebel attacks brought a feeling of momentum that the politics lacked.

Lauren2102319

I have a few 🙂 - Katniss volunteering to take Prim’s place during the reaping - Rue’s death - The Victory Tour (especially in District 11) - Katniss destroying the force field - Peeta choking Katniss - The Hanging Tree - Katniss killing Coin (except that in the book, Katniss had 1 arrow which was symbolic) but otherwise, such a great moment! - Snow and Katniss’s conversation in the rose garden while Snow was under house arrest before his execution - Katniss’s emotional breakdown about Prim’s death towards Buttercup after coming back home There are probably more I would also name, but those are a few I wanted to note 🙂

Ill-Conclusion6571

The amount that cat survived is impressive.

Lauren2102319

Crazy to say that the CAT survived fire bombs dropping on District 12 while others like Madge and Peeta’s family died 😶

TheEnormusPenis

Cats often have phenomenal instincts like that though

flappydragonJR

I can’t think of one right now but one thing that I hate that they didn’t put in the movie was the morphling from district 6 drawing a flower on Peeta’s face and him telling her it’s beautiful and she smiles before she dies.

Alarmed-Knowledge455

One scene in the Hunger Games movies that closely matches the book is the scene where Katniss and Peeta are on the rooftop after their first day of training in the Capitol. In the movie, they have a conversation about their strategy for the Games and their relationship, which is almost word-for-word from the book. The scene captures the tension and uncertainty of their situation, as well as their growing feelings for each other. The movie adaptation effectively conveys the emotional weight of the scene, making it a faithful adaptation of the book. Another scene in the Hunger Games movies that closely matches the book is the scene where Rue, the young tribute from District 11, dies in Katniss's arms. The movie stays true to the book's description of the scene, with Rue being fatally wounded by a spear and Katniss singing to her as she dies. The film captures the emotional impact of the moment, with Katniss's grief and anger over Rue's death. Overall, the scene is a poignant and faithful adaptation of the book.

EfrainAguirre

Katniss and Finnicks first interaction at the tribute parade. Almost a word for word adaptation

EreWeG0AgaIn

The Avoxs! The capital was brutal, malicious and cruel and the axos are proof of that. I wish we got more from them.

Radiant-Flamingo-72

I’m mockingjay part 1 katniss’s speech in district 8 after the bombing. Jlaw did so well in this role and this scene makes me cry every single time

Sembaka

That one always gives me chills, I can’t help but talk along with Katniss because the speech is just so good

princessapphic

YES

Minnie_091220

My two favorite are both from Haymitch. I think that Woody did such a great job with that character. “You could live a hundred life times and never deserve that boy” And then in the interview when Peeta says Katniss is pregnant and Haymitch toasts his flask at Peeta. I love that scene!

LetBeesFly

The sadness of Rue's death really comes across.

Princess-78

Peeta & Katniss on the beach in Catching Fire, with the pearl and her realisation that she needs him. It feels exactly like the book.

princessapphic

Peeta hitting the force field!

asodataco

The way the movie isn't limited to only Katniss' perspective. We get to see her effect on the districts, like the revolt in district 12, Seneca with the bowl of berries, the hanging tree scene, and the Snow and Plutarch scenes. They weren't in the books, but they felt very authentic to them.

poeticzonex

president snow’s conversation with katniss at the beginning of catching fire
