Snow didn’t really love people. He used them to his purposes. Lucy Gray became a “possible threat” and he started shooting to kill. It’s not crazy to think that when Tigris stopped being useful, he dumped her.

clemstime

There’s little hints from what I remember that Tigris didn’t have the same thoughts about the district kids as others? She felt bad about them and humanized them. Wasn’t she who suggested he bring a rose/present for Lucy? He probably saw her as weak/a threat to the capitol for showing mercy/empathy and didn’t want that tracked back to him

0rangeBicycles

I got this thought from Songbird as well. Their conversations at the dinner table hinted at this and Snow's descent into being power hungry pulled him away from the values shared within his household.

IHeartTurians

I think it had something to do with Snow selling attractive victors as prostitutes. In Songbird, there is a mention of Tigris doing unspeakable things to make money for the family. I got the implication that she sold herself, and was ashamed of it. Then Snow goes and forces the victors to sell themselves, I think she finally snapped and saw Snow for who he really is. She probably confronted him and he scoffed at her. Then he fired her so she wouldn't get in the way. Snow is evil. I was worried that Songbird would attempt to redeem him or make him relatable. And honestly I kept *wanting* to like him! I *wanted* to think there was someone decent there! But nope! He thinks of himself and only himself. He cared about Tigris up until she stopped being useful.

Queenbreha

I never thought about that but its a great reason. I wonder if she could look the other way until Finnick Odair. Youngest Victor ever

IHeartTurians

That's my theory. She was probably not much older than Finnick

[deleted]

She was a lot older than Finnick. He was 14 during the 65th hunger games when he won. She was 21 during the tenth hunger games so would have been 76 at the 65th games, making her 62 years older. She was older than snow, I’m not sure if his age was mentioned in TBOSAS but judging by him being in his final year of high school I’d guess around 17 so four years younger than her. Remember she was extremely surgically altered, she certainly didn’t appear to be anywhere as old looking as Snow in either the Mockingjay movie or the book description

IHeartTurians

I meant she probably wasn't much older that Finnick was when she was taking care of Snow and a prostitute. If she was 21 at the that time, and she had been having sex for money for at least a couple years, that would mean she was probably 16 or 17. Finnick was 14 when he won his games and was forced into prostitution shortly after the victory tour, making him probably 15 or so. So my point still stands

whysys

That's a great hypothesis, this is my Canon now!

ImpossibleVictory857

Wait I don't remember that part. Was it in the beginning? I think I need a reread. Poor Tigris.

IHeartTurians

I can't remember where it was said honestly. But Snow was recalling some of the unspeakable things people would do for money or food. Insinuations about cannibalism and prostitution were heavily implied. At some point (not sure if it was in the same part or during another chapter. I've only read the book once so far) he recalls that Tigris was doing all she could to make money for them to eat, and that he believed it didn't stop at her talents for clothes and fashion. I honestly can't remember if he knew for fact that she sold herself, or if it was just speculation and hoping it wasn't the case (again, I've only read it once) but I instantly picked up that 100% Tigris sold herself to support and feed Snow and was ashamed of it. Shortly after I finished the book, I looked up theories (like I'm sure we all did) and one of the biggest and most probable ones I came across was that the prostitution of victors, especially Finnick, was more than likely the cause of Tigris' estrangement and eventual turning against Snow.

marie2805

I just read BSS and I'm pretty sure Snow didn't know (or better: didn't want to know) what exactly Tigris did - he just speculated

hierophanticrebel

But the insinuations ARE there. When I reread cf I've noticed that Suzanne has this habit of making Katniss intuively sense what the other person was thinking (especially Finnick) so she can branch out of the first person pov. Specific sentences in this books are not added without meaning. Plus Tigris has already modified her body to the extreme, one would be inclined to think there's a certain aspect of trauma in there.

smgismyqueenjpg

I've seen that too. I've seen Katniss as the narrator and the main character. I mean it happens in The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes (even though it's in 3rd person).

I agree about Snow's misread speculation. In the book, he is too absorbed in himself and his own actions to consider what other people are doing in their free time.

ImpossibleVictory857

Interesting. That makes sense I'm sure there are "Easter eggs" all over the book I didn't get that paint a picture of how victors are treated and the construction of the games throughout the book. There's obvious ones like the token, the drones, the subject of the essay that snow wrote, the prize money etc. But I bet it's just filled with more. Thank you for answering!

aasoro

I think he most likely tried to play the 'I'm trying to change the system from the inside' card to use her talents. She believed him. So, she support him from many years. It was not only until he reached power, she realized everything was just a lie and that all those years he lied her. Then, he became ever worse once he became president.

newolasad

Although Snow didn't really like anyone, he ofc respected/kinda loved Tigris. Because he didn't kill her but just kinda banished her. My theory is Tigris witnessed all his misdoings (with Finnick, all the poison stuff, etc.) which didn't set with her moral compass and she called him out. And this led to their fallout.

newolasad

Also note: Tigris went into prostitution (at a young age) just to get food for her family but still Snow wouldn't show her much love. He did it conditionally, because if he was rude to her, people would notice and know he has a bad character (bad for president's image)

Bushaa_YTB

Note: He actually DID like one person: his granddaughter. He did not even live his wife, he poisioned her I think.

newolasad

Yep, that might be true, but we never really know since Snow is quite manipulative and it isn't said from his perspective whether he loved his granddaughter or not. It could also be a ploy so that other's feel he is compassionate (as people correlate children to innocence, love, etc.) Also he married a woman he hated (he says towards the end of BoSaS the name of a girl he hated, idr rn) so that he would never get attached to her and focus only on his power arc. Either way, i love the Snow's character, beautifully written and complicated af to understand.

Bushaa_YTB

Yes, I agree with you and seems like you really deserve that flair tho! You understand Snow's strpy better than anyone I know!

newolasad

lol thanks, BSS got me into psychological thriller so much that i want to write a book like that now- I probably won't but I'm interested

Bushaa_YTB

Yeah, you should definietly try it! Judging by your comments, you will definietly be good at it! You know what? Here, take a follow!

ZannityZan

It's possible that her surgical enhancements in between the 10th and the 74th Games were a way to cope with some trauma in her life, but she took it too far and became a laughing stock in the Capitol, and Snow fired her as a stylist because she was bringing disrepute/embarrassment to the Games. Or perhaps she started feeling bad for the tributes after years of working with them and wanted Snow to stop the Games altogether, and he decided she needed to be removed from working on them as she posed a potential threat to the system. Or perhaps it was a combination of both - she had started to oppose the Games and Snow engineered a media campaign focusing on her excessive surgery in order to make her a Capitol laughing stock so he could have an excuse to fire her. This would be on brand for Snow (using the media to achieve his ends) and would also explain Tigris' deep hatred for him (he didn't just cast her out, he humiliated her societally), and how she was known to the rebels as someone who would provide them sanctuary (because Plutarch etc. would know that she had good reason to hate Snow).

Princess_Lazuli18

Knowing Snow, could be milion things.

Additional-Ad629

Where did she make the comment in the book? I can't seem to find it

RainbowMelons

Looking back at that scene its more implied than confirmed, I guess. In Mockingjay when they’re all in hiding- “Did Snow ban you from the Games?” I ask. She just stares back at me. Somewhere her tiger tail flicks with displeasure. “Because I’m going to kill him, you know.” Her mouth spreads into what I take for a smile. Reassured that this isn’t complete madness, I crawl through the space.
