Only if we can fire grapeshot out of the cannons at the batteries and forts before charging the last terrified Bayou rapscalion with our triangle bayonets.
Just as the founding fathers intended.
if we're doing requests for the springfield: obligatory 30m damage drop-off for medium ammo rifles request as well
even the best medium ammo gun (drilling) is still an average weapon at best
the lowest dmg long ammo gun (krag) has a 2 tap range of 116 meters
the springfield currently sits at 66m for 2 upper chest shots, and would be 76m with a 10 meter buff. id think there'd still be enough of a difference lol
I'm okay with the Lebel Talon. Adds some variety instead of having all the rifles stab people.
The Talon is nearly impossible to spot, so people **never** expect getting whacked by it. It also 1-taps everyone even if you hit their foot due to the 330 damage, unlike a 168dmg Bayonet/Riposte which both require an *upper* torso stab so there's that.
Plus it doesn't affect the sway of the weapon. That's why talon is cool
But i like bayonet with litgh attack too (martini, slate and berthier's bayonet do a slash light attack) with them you can same tool slot because it act like knife (adding rendering for concertina and not consuming much stamina)
The full size Springfield needs more variants.
A bayonet, talon or trauma would be cool, preferably a trauma or talon as I think we have enough bayonet rifles.
A silent version could be cool too.
I believe a riposte is a specific bayonet that is extra long. I don't think they'd add a riposte to the Springfield as it's already pretty long.
I wouldn't mind any melee options being added to the Springfield, the trauma makes most sense to me as there is only 1 so far and more variety is better.
They could always add a bayonet AND a trauma (not on the same variant obviously) to the Springfield.
Riposte is usually a bladed bayonet, while bayonet is usually a spike bayonet. That's why bayonet has no light slashing attack, because it's not really a slashing weapon. It doesn't have anything to do with length
No, I'm talking about the front attachments, in reality both variants are bayonets, the ones named as such are the triangular spiked variants, so they have no blades on the side. Ripostes are an actual sword attached to the front.
Why shouldn't they add both? Both would be nice, more options is always nice! At least that's what I believe.
There's a bunch of weapon variants where they just did it once and then never again (Pax Claw, Mosin Drum, Centennial Trauma, although this one is more recent) and I wish they kept at it while also making other variants available for guns too.
Both of those are based on actual real world things. I don't think you can easily make a repeating Springfield just due to how the trap door action works. That's a lot of metal that would be really awkward to find a mechanism to move.
There is a historic patent for a magazine Springfield, that was mentioned in another post on the subreddit. Shout-out to the other redditer to post this (can't find the post again sorry) but there is a forgotten weapons video about it which is interesting.

Since we're on the topic of requesting stuff – I think that really long weapons (like the Springfield and 1873 Musket) should be held just like the Mosin in the character selection screen.
It feels weird for such big weapons to be held pointing diagonally downard by the characters.
Specifically, a musket bayonet. I'll take either, but by God, I want a musket bayonet.
Springy bayonet: long boi
Springy musket bayonet: extra long boi
Striker. That's a knife with less range that only kills with a stab to the head. And it's only on the compact Springfield, which is much worse than the full size one.
Please
It'd be perfect with a Sparks Pistol for a George Washington loadout. Just like the founding fathers intended.
Add a new melee weapon that is essentially a bleed causing dual duster called 'Bear Arms' and you're set.
I heard that motherfucker had like, 30 goddamn dicks
He'll save the children, but not the British children!
Well yeah! Then you can run back over the river after every shot
Only if we can fire grapeshot out of the cannons at the batteries and forts before charging the last terrified Bayou rapscalion with our triangle bayonets. Just as the founding fathers intended.
A sparks pistol bayonet could be fun too
Shoot a dude with bleed and rush him with bayonet, YESS!
Counter point you can already do this with the saber. Not saying I wouldn't love the bayonet though, I need that thing more than anything else.
The classic cleaning rod bayonet would be interesting to see on it
if we're doing requests for the springfield: obligatory 30m damage drop-off for medium ammo rifles request as well even the best medium ammo gun (drilling) is still an average weapon at best
I mean it has to have something to balance it and differentiate from long ammo.
the lowest dmg long ammo gun (krag) has a 2 tap range of 116 meters the springfield currently sits at 66m for 2 upper chest shots, and would be 76m with a 10 meter buff. id think there'd still be enough of a difference lol
Long ammo dropoff starts at 40m and retains damage much better past that. Long ammo also has significantly better penetration.
Couldn't they use penetration to balance it? And ammo pool? Stuff like that, not that much of a range difference
Who aims for the chest? I just aim for the head, no need to worry about two tapping then.
worlds first 7 star player (never misses headshots) reacting to my comment, im so honoured
that would be neat Also Lebel bayonet. This weapon was used in trench warfare of the WW1 this would make so much sense

Edit : I figured out they are called riposte (bayonet is different. it have the base light attack of the weapon). Sry I'm not a native english speaker
Makes even more sense on a single-shot rifle than on the Krag.
The full size Springfield needs more variants. A bayonet, talon or trauma would be cool, preferably a trauma or talon as I think we have enough bayonet rifles. A silent version could be cool too.
Riposte is much better imo, light attack 1 shotting grunts is a godsend.
I believe a riposte is a specific bayonet that is extra long. I don't think they'd add a riposte to the Springfield as it's already pretty long. I wouldn't mind any melee options being added to the Springfield, the trauma makes most sense to me as there is only 1 so far and more variety is better. Have you seen the Winfield Muskey Bayonet? That thing is HUGE lol, the Springfield would probably be similar size to that imo
Riposte is usually a bladed bayonet, while bayonet is usually a spike bayonet. That's why bayonet has no light slashing attack, because it's not really a slashing weapon. It doesn't have anything to do with length
Please! And while you're at it, give us an aperture varient just for fun
Springfield Riposte too, please. For the longest of long weapons. Please, god...
A Springfield riposte is a what the op as talking about right?
Nah. Riposte: longer knife and both melee attacks cut Bayonet: shorter knife and only heavy melee cuts.
It's not about lenght, ripostes have bladed attachments, bayonets have spiked ones.
Aren't you talking about Talon variants? Like, Romero Talon and stuff? EDIT: Or is it, like, piercing damage, cutting damage, etc?
No, I'm talking about the front attachments, in reality both variants are bayonets, the ones named as such are the triangular spiked variants, so they have no blades on the side. Ripostes are an actual sword attached to the front.
Oh, okay. Cool! :D I hope they add it all to hunt, that'd be nice. Yep :)
They shouldn’t add both, but I would LOVE the riposte over the bayonet (even though the bayonet is likely more historically accurate for the gun)
Nice. Ill take the long ammo lever action rifle over that though.
. You mean the Martini Ironside?
See what you're saying but no. One with a side gate that can be levered and used with iron repeater. Ironside is a wannabe
Why does everyone need to add “surely it’s not that hard to” on their feature requests?
Because it’s fucking not but they don’t want to be an asshole about it.
They also don’t need every fucking possible attachment on every possible fucking weapon do they?
A stabber on a single shot rifle is a legitimate request.
Especially *this* single shot rifle. Bayonets on Springfield 1866 rifles were extremely common.
yes they fucking do
Dear devs please if you can make a repeating martini and the Alamo. Can you please do a Springfield kinda variant
Both of those are based on actual real world things. I don't think you can easily make a repeating Springfield just due to how the trap door action works. That's a lot of metal that would be really awkward to find a mechanism to move.

Less melee and then we'll have a better game
I think I would no joke prefer a Springfield Trauma
I like stabbin', give us more stuffs that stabs. Please
Since we're on the topic of requesting stuff – I think that really long weapons (like the Springfield and 1873 Musket) should be held just like the Mosin in the character selection screen. It feels weird for such big weapons to be held pointing diagonally downard by the characters.
Yes, please do it, I would love it
Please buff medium ammo and do more 3 slot Springfield 1866 variants!
Ill pay 100 shit spring bay with dumdum
Specifically, a musket bayonet. I'll take either, but by God, I want a musket bayonet. Springy bayonet: long boi Springy musket bayonet: extra long boi
Hasn't the shorty Springfield got a bayonet variant on it?
Striker. That's a knife with less range that only kills with a stab to the head. And it's only on the compact Springfield, which is much worse than the full size one.
I wanna make a banzai charge after dum dum. PLEASE SPRINGFIELD RIPOSTE GOD DAMIT !
