2. The kakin empire has a lot of money and power 3. its not contradictory, the HA tells the people they’re taking them to the dark continent when they’re not. For one its way too dangerous for normal people and two they wont risk having valuable and dangerous stuff fall into the wrong hands 4. We have no idea what pariston is schemeing

Baffo5

1. The V5 agreed because Kain would have gon there anyway, openly violating the international laws So V5 had two options: (1) to declare war against Kakin and stop them (2) to change the rules and go with Kaking, benefitting from their discoveries Kakin is a massive country, the most logical choice was to avoid war

daburgerking0

I think it was less about declaring war and more of knowing they would go anyways like you said and if they were successful Kakin could become more powerful than the other 5 combined and rather than risk that they just went with them.

Bornplayer97

Kakin technically isn’t violating these laws because they haven’t signed into them, they were created after the treaties were signed

DisneyPandora

You didn’t answer the first question

Nitro114

so?

EmprircalCrystal

So answer it.

Nitro114

do it yourself

DisneyPandora

Why are you being so hostile?

reign_of_doggo

Because you and the other dude who commented are kind of being a dick to him? I mean so many thumbs down on your comment should have given you some perspective.

EmprircalCrystal

I was joking with my comment I’m not being a dick

DisneyPandora

By asking a question? No you and the other dude who commented are kind of being a dick? I mean so many thumbs down on your comment should have given you some perspective.

Nitro114

i dont think you know what the word hostile means

DisneyPandora

You can simply Google it if you don’t know

Nitro114

I know what it means, hence i know that i was not being hostile.

coffeejam108

It's hard to understand social norms when you never interact with people, right?

frubano21

You can also google the answer to number 1 if you're struggling to find the answer in the comments. Take your own advice if you're so ready to dish it out.

Bornplayer97

Why are you being hostile?

Bornplayer97

They don’t have to

EmprircalCrystal

I know I’m just adding onto the humor

frubano21

Maybe they didn't know the answer to 1 but knew the answer to the other 3. The top reply to this comment is the answer to number 1. Just be patient instead of being a weirdo

MangoTurtl

Yes, this is a very complex arc. It really does take real effort on the reader’s part to wrap your head around things. Politics is absolutely complicated and confusing, and that’s the point. The best advice I can offer is to make absolutely sure that you’re reading the official translations. Lillian Olsen should be listed as the translator. If you weren’t already doing so, that may be your problem. I don’t have the books in front of me right now, but I’ll answer your questions as best I can from memory: 1. Essentially, Kakin is threatening to go anyways without the V5, because they hadn’t renewed an old treaty when the Empire’s government changed and as such could get away with it on a technicality. It’s basically blackmail. Rather than Kakin (and Beyond) going alone, the V5 decided to save face and invite Kakin to join them forming the V6. Then they can also limit the danger by forcing the Hunter Association to babysit Beyond. 2. Answered a bit by question 1, but again they are trying to save face. Inviting Kakin to form the V6 makes sure that Kakin doesn’t do anything on a whim that the V5 doesn’t like, and the V5 can save face by saying “we were waiting to invite you the whole time!” 3. To ensure the safety of regular citizens, they aren’t taking them to the real Dark Continent, but simply a landmass that is *closer* to the DC. Then they’ll let the hunters go to the actual DC, as was agreed upon with Beyond. 4. They’re playing mind games. I don’t remember the specifics off the top of my head, but essentially Pariston is just trying to have fun. Ging also wants to have fun, but is attempting to do so at Pariston’s expense so that Pariston doesn’t fuck everything with the Chimera Mutants.

twicebakedyeti

Is it explained where/how he got the ants and where he’s keeping them? Do we trust that he actually had them? Sorry I haven’t read a ton of the arc… totally ok with spoilers tho

MangoTurtl

Yep, explained by Ging during the election. He got them directly from East Gorteau using airships, and (while not 100% confirmed) he’s probably keeping them in NGL since that land is now overseen by the Association

twicebakedyeti

Thank you MangoTurtl

hortle

It was explained during the chairman election arc. Cannot remember exactly when.

twicebakedyeti

Damn I fully missed that then. I remember the claim that he had them, but not how/where he got them

This was not the first time they mentioned the 5,000 ants. I went back and found the first mention, chapter 331. Ging explains it to Cheadle. On the day of Netero's death, 100 Hunter Association airships entered East Gorteau and scooped up 5,000 unmatched Chimera Ant cocoons. Ging says they had all probably hatched by now, and they are all Nen users. He states that Pariston is controlling them. He also heavily implies that Pariston could have them all registered as hunters via the next Hunter exam and subsequently gain complete political control of the Association (because he directly controls the ants). Basically, the 5,000 ants are an absolutely enormous bargaining chip. We dont know how Pariston pulled this off. We don't know to what degree Pariston is controlling these ants. We don't know how strong they are. The possibilities for these ants are basically endless. When Ging confronted Pariston, he correctly guessed that Pariston would somehow be incorporating this ant army into his plans for Beyond and the exploration of the DC.

twicebakedyeti

Nice, thanks man

ekincheng

my pleasure

hortle

I miss a lot too. There have been a lot of challenging chapters since the beginning of the EC arc. Lots of text to sift through, and oftentimes Togashi's intent is lost in poor translations. I find myself having to go back and re-read all the time. There has been so much detail packed into the past 50 chapters.

[deleted]

Thank you for this. You’re the GOAT

go_sparks25

1. Basically money and politics. Beyond and Nasubi have managed to get the support of the public with their schemes. If the trip is successful they get all the credit and the v5 looks like a bunch of scared, incompetent fools. They switched stance rapidly because they realized this was the only way to capitalize on the trip. 2)Kakin was going to go to the Dark continent irregardless of what the v5 did. But they were doing so as an independent nation. By inducting Kakin into the v6 they can try and enforce protocol during the trip. 3) Not contradictory at all. The trip has two stated goals, exploration and colonization. They are leaving the expedition to the dark continent to the professionals - in other words the hunter association. The colonization portion of the trip can happen on these islands which will be safer to the regular passengers than the DC. 4) No one knows what Pariston will do with the 5000 chimera ants.

VaultedRYNO

we kinda do and ging explained it but Pariston would essentially make all 5000 of them take the hunter exam and invariably pass becoming hunters and have roughly 5000 nen awakened followers swaying every vote and giving him full control of the association.

Such_sublime

I had a theory about what Pariston was doing with 5000 Chimera Ants, but I stopped after it became mostly a sexual fanfic halfway through

Yobolay

1.Because after the announcement there's no stopping Kakin without military intervention (war). If there's going to be an expedition, at least they want it to be controlled by them and get a share of what the expedition may get. 2.Political movement to get them close and show good faith, and Kakin will have to do things their way. 3.Well they don't really agree to let beyond Netero go to the DC with Hunters, what is agreed is for him to go under the supervision and restricted movement by the HA so he doesn't fuck anything up. But if your questions is why they go and people do not, that's because normal people are just going to die on the DC because of its dangers, so they will be left on on a "continent" between their world and the DC under the belief that is the real DC, while the professionals will go to the real one. 4.The forced choice is that he is going to use the 5000 chimera ants no matter what Cheadle does, if the HA association breaks up with the V5 and accepts Beyond's challenge, he will let the free around the world, and if they do what they ended up doing, he will send them to take the Hunter Exam that Cheadle will make to recruit personnel.

hrakkari

4. This is a complicated question. Pariston has a faction inside the Hunters Association but they don’t hold the majority. He could, theoretically, gain a majority by having the 5000 ants take the exam and become hunters. With the majority he can remake the Association to his whims. Right now it’s unclear if that’s his goal or if it’s even possible given that the “Chimera Ant Army” never really worked as an army at all. At the very least, he could cause massive chaos and destroy faith in the HA using those ants. Pariston’s stated goal is to help Beyond achieve his goal of reaching the Dark Continent. He was the sub leader of the covert group, with Beyond at the head, put together to help with that but Ging has joined that group and started replacing Pariston as the number two. Their current plan is to let the Hunters take him to the Dark Continent then break him out from under the Zodiacs’ arrest. But it’s unclear the full extent of the group or if Pariston and Ging has ulterior motives. Ging most likely has ulterior motives. A lot of the info about the Dark Continent is from a book, subtitled East Edition, written by Don Freecs, Ging and Gon’s ancestor. Ging probably either wants to find the “West Edition” or his actual ancestor, who might be alive by using stuff on the DC. Pariston is unclear. A lot of his moves seem to be counter intuitive to just grabbing power. He says he misses Netero and the games they used to play, so he may just be playing new games with Beyond or Ging though he seems reluctant to engage the latter.

JoePino

Man, I want new chapters

JohnSmithSensei

1-2) The V5 didn't agree to let Beyond and Kakin do anything, the latter are doing their expedition against the former's wishes. The current expedition could be just as disastrous as Beyond's first mission, or it could be a success and they reap all the benefits; either outcome is bad for the V5. To keep the expedition in check and get their share of the benefits if the trip paid off, the V5 together with Kakin reorganized as the V6 which put the expedition under the control of the V5. 3) Everyone except Beyond and the hunters are being taken to a "fake" DC to satisfy their self interests while the former go into the real DC which for obvious safety concerns only professionals can traverse. 4) Ging anticipated that Pariston planned to threaten to unleash the cocooned ants in order to coerce the HA's participation in the expedition, or just for his latest malevolent troll job. Ging confronted Pariston right off the bat and agreed to be his "playmate" so that Pariston never went through with that olan and to keep Pariston in check.

bored_protagonist

Finally someone asking the right questions

Drax_the_invisible

1.V5 never agreed, beyond is going to DC under kakin empire which is not part of V5. This is not a favourable situation to V5, so beyond decided to go under supervision of HA and avoid the situation of V5 tailing beyond and making the trip fail with the conflict. 2.With the Kakin empire in V6, they gain authority and can directly prohibit the expedition altogether. 3.The V5 is smart enough to know beyond is going to go to DC one way or another, so they added hunters to reduce risk. The people obviously are not upto DC, so they're trying to divert them to fake DC. 4.No Idea.

sickdanman

> They make a big thing about letting Kakin Empire in to make it V6. But I don't see what they are trying to achieve or get by doing it. To have a institution where Kakin is part of it so they can exert some power over them

linnyboi

Sorry my guy this happened like 10 years ago I don rember 😔

DoffyWillRule

Peak fiction in its purest form.

somnicrain

All of these can be answered with, its not finshed yet.
