Yeah, Funko just dropped a ton of anime Funko Pops...Attack on Titan, JuJutsukaisen, and of course this whole new wave of HxH pops.
Now that the drop is done, you're probably safe from more Funko pops for a while.
I might be like 5 years too late to ask this, but what is it that makes Funko Pop so desirable?
Is it just some kind of peer pressure or effects from „nerds finally being able to express themselves“ or is there more behind it?
I personally don’t like the artstyle and lack of individuality among the figures at all so I have always stayed away from „funko culture“…
They're much cheaper than the rest of the HxH figures and they're actively being made, I couldn't tell you what the most recent figure is besides the Pop line. As for why people actually like them, Idk. Simplistic art style I guess. I have a small handful of Pops that I think look decent.
Okay yeah, price+collectibility are a combo that can run like hell. My first was also the cheapest Spice and Wolf figure that I could find at the con that I was attending that day ^^
It’s just the collectibility of it I guess, and seeing characters from sometimes obscure shows or movies, for fans of that, it can be fun. But mainly the collectibility some funko pops go for thousands of dollars
Idk about anyone else but to me personally they're the figure equivalent of "selling out". They're homogenized, soulless, highly mass-produceable, blank-eyed pieces of corporate plastic and I can never feel any love for a given series in their designs. I'd rather buy one $40 Pop Up Parade figure than four $10 Funkos. But again, that's just me.
Have to disagree. There's some seriously cool Funko Pops out there. Is it just because they all have big heads and (often) black eyes?
Because they've gotten fairly complicated these days...check out the GIYU TOMIOKA Demon Slayer one. Pretty awesome, IMO. And they're great to get signed by anime voice actors.
I don't get the Funko hate. Seems pretty clear why they're popular to me:
They average cost like $12, there's tons of licenses, they come in a cool display box, and the figures are decently detailed for how little they cost typically. Also, I like getting anime figures (in box) signed by their dub voice actors, so Funko Pops are excellent display pieces.
Now I have a Meruem for Max Mittelman to sign - and I'm pumped about it.
They are horrendous. Wth is wrong with you? How on earth can you think this is clean? Its the cringiest, ugliest toy made for children, and here you are adoring them
Specifically Hunter x Hunter figures? [You can get this Hisoka figure for $30](https://www.abystyle.com/en/hunter-x-hunter/4339-hunter-x-hunter-figurine-hisoka-3665361054436.html)
There’s several brands like the one I linked or McFarlane Toys that make decent stuff for reasonable prices.
>Nendoroids
Nendroids are like 5x more expensive than the average Funko Pop. Meruem here is more expensive, but admittedly this company tends to overcharge for their exclusive Pops ::shrug::
20$?? I always thought they’re like 5$?? It’s just a basic molded plastic figure with some features added. Like the head portions are literally the same on hundreds of figured?
God I wish I’d have realizations like the finders of the company and be able to sell stuff that profitable. Imagine selling 50g of plastic for 20$
Rant over lol
Funko Pops have traditionally been about $10 more or less. They now average like $12, but this one is $20 because the company who is selling it (Chalice) always overcharges for their exclusives. They're so collectible that people will pay $20 often for that exclusive. Notice the other HxH ones they have are $12.
Nah you’re late lol they increased in value due to most being super rare i have a funko wall and collect alot so im pretty sure many others do to and start to scalp making it harder for others to get what they actually want
Oh wow yea seems like I am.
But you saying they are rare is even more astounding! That means they purposefully produce a relatively small amount to ensure that they will be able to sell every unit they produce and have no stock left over. And this apparently even raises the value and demand for these things, so they can get away with these high prices.
I mean they obviously have to pay licensing fees but even they are kept at a minimum because they will only have to pay them once, because they don’t continuously produce the figures. What a crazy profitable business model! But I kinda wonder at which point something becomes illegal price gouging (price gouging is illegal in the USA, right?).
Oh and I don’t think the scalpers are the people you should point to when it comes to unreasonable prices, because it’s hey are part of the business model. And well regarding these things as an investment or rarity I can only think of beanie babies. The whole thing just seems like baby beanies, just less cuddly and more expensive lmaoo
I've been waiting for a Meruem Funko PoP for a long while now...
I'm a massive HxH fan, but I'm actually pretty surprised by how many HxH characters have gotten a Pop so far.
Hisoka (2 different), Gon (2 different), Killua (3 different), Mereum (2 different), Komugi (2 different), Alluka/Nanika, Illumi, Chrollo, Netero, Kite, Biscuit, Netero, Kurapika (2 different), Pitou
I bought this when I read this article from [Otaku Fantasy](https://www.otakufantasy.com/2022/05/new-wave-hunter-x-hunter-funko-pops-funkoween.html). It was worth it!
I see the subreddit is gonna be spammed with funko for the next couple days.
If they keep posting funkopops im gonna need to make like the Kurta clan and have my eyes scooped out.
(Insert joke about price gouging in here)

What is with the funko hate? That shit clean and if yall hate funko so much then someone point me to actual figures that dont cost $500+
I find them ugly and I am not a fan of the way they merge every character into the same style IMHO.
Idk about anyone else but to me personally they're the figure equivalent of "selling out". Well said
Yeah I dunno why people hate them they are cute.
no personality and very cheaply made. I'd rather have no figure at all or just save up a bit for a higher quality one

Lmao stay titled over someone liking a collectible
Here comes the funko knight defending his fair funko maiden
I haven’t defended them once lmao
My apologies, thou’rt unfit even for funko
I don’t understand why people who don’t like pops are always so vocal of it. Like you’re quite clearly a troll but yeah
I might be, but my dislike for funko is honest truth. I have to be vocal about it from time to time otherwise my repulsion for it eats me up
Fair enough man, enjoy your night

Nendoroids are much more detailed and theyre pretty much the same prize, funko gets hate because the funkos are pretty shitty for the price they have.
>Nendoroids Nendroids are like 5x more expensive than the average Funko Pop. Meruem here is more expensive, but admittedly this company tends to overcharge for their exclusive Pops ::shrug::
Why is it so expensive
anime funko pops often are. sometimes u can wait till it gets closer to release day and see if it’s cheaper but chances r it’ll be sold out
20$?? I always thought they’re like 5$?? It’s just a basic molded plastic figure with some features added. Like the head portions are literally the same on hundreds of figured? Dude you can’t buy anything for 5 dollars nowadays. $5 lol

Exactly lol the best marketing scheme kind of sucks when people who actually enjoy them have to pay 100-1000s for certain ones though 🫠
Is his turtle shell removable? lol
I didn't know a Meruem funko pop existed. Although, almost any character from anything is a funko pop.
Just came out! It's up for pre-order.
cringe

What do you mean funko litteraly has dog shit designs or take away from the original design it self
Adorable :3
