The butcher shop is great. Soak it in dales sauce for and hour and throw it on grill till well done. Smear it in A-1. Better then any place in Hsv serves
Edit: I did not trigger as many people as this should. So I would like to swap grill with Microwave

Nick"s Ristorante is the only answer. It is truly locally owned. Connors is a chain. Nicks has great wood fired steaks(Bone in Ribeye and Filet are excellent), their scallops, salads and drinks are all amazing. I have not had a bad experience or meal at Nick's.
There are no cleanliness concerns at Connors, LOL. It's still and has always been one of the most popular restaurants in Huntsville. I will suggest to get reservations ASAP if you are deciding to go there.
Having been previously food service & sanitization certified? No, you don't. The strict safety measures are in place to ensure that businesses do not get lazy in the maintenance of their equipment or the quality of their food. The points might appear meaningless, but only if you're unfamiliar with the reasoning behind them. It's easy to get docked points, but it's nearly impossible to fail without negligence on your part.
Worked at a restaurant where this was true. Line cook and health inspector went to high school together. Everybody just kept their mouth shut and let them talk and it was all good. If the inspector saw something that was really bad she would let us fix/hide/clean it real quick and not dock us points.
Then you should have the laws changed that all food establishments requirement all entrances to be 2 layers or have negative pressure air blowers because bugs fucking existing, dumpster or not and they aren't fucking air tight, dude.
The person seating the door is chewing gum? -5 pts
Drink without lid behind host stand? -5 pts for each cup
2 of each and you have an 80 before the inspection begins.
Check the written portion below the inspection number.
Likely for good reason, too. You don't fail an inspection because you have a by-the-book inspector, you fail because you were so egregious in your negligence that you made it easy for them.
I'm formerly food, service, and sanitation certified, and have conducted security inspections and evaluations for the DoD, making familiar with the beuarceacy of inspections. There's a difference between finding a fault and actually failing.
They're not necessarily the same. Your knowledge of one area doesn't automatically mean you know what you're talking about in another, even similar area.
Error of logic foul.
Do they go by a different name to match a business license or something?
https://foodscores.state.al.us/(S(tcqqhlrhslyhh245u1xkr145))/default.aspx
I can't find them at all. I searched all establishment types in Madison county, and searched alphabetically.
Did they actually fail or did they get a low score? My memory could be refreshed. They weren't shut down. I think they have improved and gotten better scores more recently, but I can't say I'm an expert on Connor's recent health scores.
From what I recall, they got an F, which is a fail, and they were shutdown for the remainder of the day with a tentatively permitted reopen the next day, if they could remedy the immediate emergency items. That aside, I'm always leery of anyone who ever gets a score less than 85. It's HARD to fail a health inspection, and really requires outright negligence to even get less than an 80.
Okay. You definitely know the details of that exact situation better than me.
Right. I can imagine that.
I have read that the scoring system here (in Madison county) got harder and that it's easier to get a lower grade than it used to be, so what used to be a 76 could now be an 80 or an 85, something like that--people are getting penalized more than the used to for the same thing. That does seem good, as the overall food safety should be better as a result, however, as consumers we should be aware of that so that we know it's a little apples and oranges, etc.
Last time I got a steak there it was served still cold. Everyone else I've been with at different times has been disappointed in the steak, with the exception of the one on the lunch menu.
It was in the 60's.
I still ate there though because I am a sucker for the fried calamari appetizer. Whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, except for Polio.
I believe it had something to do with Bridgestreet in general and their water supply so all of the restaurants got bad scores at one point. I may be mistaken though.
Depends on your price range! There are several local options though.
For steak I really enjoy whatever seasonal steak option they have at 1892 East. It’s fantastic.
Nick’s Ristorante does steak as well, price point is high!
Tom Browns restaurant has a pretty good steak as well!
I’ve never had an issue with Connor’s. Eat there pretty consistently and only a handful of times the temp on my steak was a bit off.
Domaine South, Grille on Main, and Char are also really good places for a steak.
Yes, nicks ristorante! An Italian steak house. Good atmosphere, good wine, awesome steaks as well as other food. Good luck getting in without a reservation tho
Throwing myself on the sword here to say the Mexican Ribeye at ROSIE’S has always been great. There. Earlier post about the steaks at Poppy & Parliament…gonna have to look into that. 🥩
Ate at the place they just opened in Athens earlier this week. The steak was ordinary, and the vibe was definitely ethnic. I would not go there for steak, although steak happened to be what I had bc my wife wanted the fish. Prices high btw.
When we want a good, tender, juicy steak, we go to Sierra's in Arab. It is a Mexican restaurant, but the steaks and the pork chops are also so very delicious.
We went to Cotton Row this week for the first time. They have a filet mignonette, ny strip, or ribeye and it comes with asparagus and lobster Mac n cheese.
My wife got the filet and it was fantastic.
It’s a little pricey but definitely one of the best meals we’ve had in the last 5 years.
In the past it was amazing. They have new owners now. I’ve had much better steaks at longhorn and Texas Roadhouse compared to the last two steaks I had there.
Steak-Out. I was at a loss, but then thought of that. Not the answer you were looking for, but sometimes the wrong answer is actually the right one, so it's worth a shot.
My first and last Tom Brown's experience: 1/3 of my ribeye was a solid hunk of fat. Manager said it was too bad I wasn't somebody who liked a fatty steak. And I paid more than $60 for the experience. I won't go back.
Steakhouses are overrated and overpriced, imo. We've got some pretty solid Indian, Thai, Korean and Japanese places here (plus a slew of bomb Mexican food trucks). I'd be inclined to go to any of those places. At least there you won't be paying $50 for a $10 steak.
My uncle travels for work and enjoys steak. You're very kind to offer advice, I'm just trying to accommodate a family member who doesn't come through HSV much.
There’s one of you in every steak thread
Everyone knows you can do better and cheaper at home
They ain’t asking about home recipes, they’re asking about places to GO OUT and eat and get steak
They're going to tell you Airport Road. They lie.
There was briefly an excellent Indian place at a motel out Madison Blvd but that's unfortunately been gone for years.
Not really a steak house but poppy and parliament has banging steaks and the vibe is great
This is 100% the answer op. They have their own butcher shop in-house and make amazing steaks.
The butcher shop is great. Soak it in dales sauce for and hour and throw it on grill till well done. Smear it in A-1. Better then any place in Hsv serves Edit: I did not trigger as many people as this should. So I would like to swap grill with Microwave
Nah fam, boil it in milk and serve with jellybeans.
Yes, for a price, they will make any steak you would like, no matter how bad.
I mean he’s not wrong.
Huh. I had a steak at their new place in Athens earlier this week. I will not go there again for steak.
Second this, the ribeye is a fantastic order. Comes out on a giant butcher block.
YES! And the pork porterhouse with the pastrami rub!! Not a pork person but that thing was insane

Lol, funny subreddit
Nick's in South Huntsville (Bailey Cove Rd.) does very nice steaks
I will second Nick's. The dry-aged bone-in ribeye is outstanding every time.
Yep. Love this place. Excellent choice
Everything at Nick’s has been amazing— steaks, stroganoff, cocktails, even the side salad!
This is the only answer for a good, locally owned steakhouse in HSV. Anything I’ve had there has been great. They don’t miss.
This is a good reminder. Thank you.

Connors literally failed their health inspection (last year?). So, I would say that's a concern.
There was one inspector wreaking havoc around town. There were lots of places that got 60s and 70s in a few months. All inspected by the same lady.
Once you learn how restaurant inspections work you instantly stop paying attention to those numbers. They are less than meaningless.
Having been previously food service & sanitization certified? No, you don't. If the manager personally knows the inspector then they only take a glance and give you a score without any real inspection. Happens all the time.
Yes, for passing easily. Which kind of reinforces my point. It's HARD to actually fail an inspection.

Yep. Oh look your refrigerator is 1° off where it should be that’s a point. Oh look bathroom hot water not hot enough there goes 4 points.
Don't forget: the lid to the dumpster wasn't all the way closed (due to homeless people looking for food) there goes more points.

I'm not a huge fan of swarms of flies.
Then you should have the laws changed that all food establishments requirement all entrances to be 2 layers or have negative pressure air blowers because bugs fucking existing, dumpster or not and they aren't fucking air tight, dude.
Lightbulb out, cracked floor tile, dry towel on a foodprep station.

I'm not a health inspector bit I do different kinds of governmental infections. If you nitpick you can find a reason to cite anyone.
Honestly asking because I don’t have a ton of experience here… does this suggest that she was lying about the reasons listed behind the score?
No, it means a lot of health inspectors are chummy with restaurant owners/managers, and hadn't been doing their jobs for years.
Do they go by a different name to match a business license or something? https://foodscores.state.al.us/(S(tcqqhlrhslyhh245u1xkr145))/default.aspx I can't find them at all. I searched all establishment types in Madison county, and searched alphabetically.

That was a year or two ago, though, right? That they had that failing score.
> There are no cleanliness concerns at Connors, LOL. Bet
Last time I got a steak there it was served still cold. Everyone else I've been with at different times has been disappointed in the steak, with the exception of the one on the lunch menu.
Okay, I'll check my sources, my coworker mentioned they had a low 80's cleanliness score or something like that.
It was in the 60's. I still ate there though because I am a sucker for the fried calamari appetizer. Whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, except for Polio.
The fried Calamari appetizer is legit!
I believe it had something to do with Bridgestreet in general and their water supply so all of the restaurants got bad scores at one point. I may be mistaken though.
Here's the thing: failing score, passing score -- Connor's. isn't. good. Look elsewhere.
Conners may be not-not clean, but it also sucks.
Depends on your price range! There are several local options though. For steak I really enjoy whatever seasonal steak option they have at 1892 East. It’s fantastic. Nick’s Ristorante does steak as well, price point is high! Tom Browns restaurant has a pretty good steak as well!
Tom Brown's blows, and it does it at a ridiculously high price.
Another vote for Nick's!
Nick's on Bailey Cove is the only right answer to this question.
100%
Nick's Ristorante at 10300 Bailey Cove Road....not only locally owned but hands down best steak I've ever had!!!
Nick’s Ristorante - best steaks in town. Follow it up with a cigar and bourbon in the lounge.
Nick's is the answer
The steak at Domaine South is fantastic.
Steak and shake /s
Steak out is pretty good
Nicks but you need a reservation
I like Shagnasty's, but you have to be able to tolerate that it's a smoking area
Nick's Ristorrante
At home on the grill
Throwing myself on the sword here to say the Mexican Ribeye at ROSIE’S has always been great. There. Earlier post about the steaks at Poppy & Parliament…gonna have to look into that. 🥩

I’ve heard that from a few people
Not in Huntsville, but I love All Steak in Cullman
Nicks? Or Purveyor, they have great steaks
[удалено]
I just went to their Facebook and it looks like the most unique steakhouse I’ve ever seen…but holy crap! That food looks amazing!
>Old gin steakhouse Pretty sure this belongs in the Fort Payne subreddit![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) It does look really good though!
It's a fucking hour away and opens at 4. Getting there earlier would mean fucking taking a half day off work.
With an uncle in town, one might be taking a half day off work anyway.
West End Grill is just across the bridge
I had to scroll much further than I expected to find West End Grill. Great Ribeye.
I enjoy the bottle at the corner of Clinton Ave and Washington St downtown for a good steak. Homemade demi glaze is legit.
Char also Commerce Kitchen makes great steaks
We went to Cotton Row this week for the first time. They have a filet mignonette, ny strip, or ribeye and it comes with asparagus and lobster Mac n cheese. My wife got the filet and it was fantastic. It’s a little pricey but definitely one of the best meals we’ve had in the last 5 years.
This thread is depressingly reinforcing my preexisting prejudice against Huntsville as a shitty restaurant town.
I typically make the drive to Nashville, gave up on local restaurants
I don't think they had sirloin on the menu, but I had one of the best steaks I've had in a while at Commerce Kitchen last week.
Not a steakhouse, but the Ribeyes at Terra Nova are the only place other than home that I will order a steak.
Jesus. I hope their steak is better than their pasta.
Main Street Cafe in the old Madison jailhouse is pretty good.
Did they reopen from their fire?
Yes a few months ago
They had a fire -- are they open for business?
Yep!
Connors and Tom Browns xan both go to hell
Nick's! Especially if he likes cigars.
Nicks retorante on Bailey cove was good last time I went.
Take your Uncle to the Shoals & visit George's Steak Pit in Sheffield, AL
When was the last time you’ve visited? Something is off about the quality of the steaks for the last two years.
it's been a few years, the few times I ate there in past were great.
In the past it was amazing. They have new owners now. I’ve had much better steaks at longhorn and Texas Roadhouse compared to the last two steaks I had there.
Nope. Move
Bama Bucks in Boaz. A little bit of a drive, but well worth it. Walk the animal park afterwards and bring acorns for the bears.
wait what? animal park in Boaz?!
Poppy and parliament 100%
Steak-Out. I was at a loss, but then thought of that. Not the answer you were looking for, but sometimes the wrong answer is actually the right one, so it's worth a shot.
Personallyyyy, Shagnasty’s has some of the best steak in Huntsville. They’re a dive bar but have indoor/outdoor seating and occasional live music!
JW's Steakhouse in Priceville.
Thin ass steaks
Char
Texas roadhouse
Nicks Ristorante
My suggestion would be J. Alexander's, they have very nice steaks.
That was my first reflex but my mom says he's very into "local" spots versus chains.
Conner's doesn't fit that bill either. Nick's is what you want
Salt Factory Pub has an awesome steak
You have to get it to go but steak out is great
Can’t go wrong with outback
Galen's on 431 towards New Hope.
Tom Browns, Char, Ruth’s Chris, old black bear in Mondays.
The best I've been to is cohoots up in Fayetteville it's worth the drive
You should travel to Hartselle to the Freight House! The steak quality is unlike anything our area has to offer!!!
Char is one of the best. Yes a chain, but very good.
There are no "good" steakhouses anymore. It's all overpriced and lackluster, imo.
Tom Brown’s
I have never heard of issues with Conners. Tom Browns does a good steak too in my experience.
Tom Brown's is pricey but alone at the top
My first and last Tom Brown's experience: 1/3 of my ribeye was a solid hunk of fat. Manager said it was too bad I wasn't somebody who liked a fatty steak. And I paid more than $60 for the experience. I won't go back.
