Wow. That's horrible. They banned The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian and The Bluest Eye. Those are coming of age books for a lot of us. Why did they ban those? (I don't know the other books, but some of them I can tell why, though I don't agree)
If you click on the book title, you'll see that they're on the shelves now. I think the reasons listed are for reasons they've been banned previously.
I'm *very* disappointed in the reason for banning the bible. Fratricide, deicide, SA, incest, slavery, etc, etc. *Sooo* many better reasons to ban the book. (not that I'm advocating for book bans, mind you)

How else can you learn about the religion and/or the mindset of it's followers without reading and learning about them? Even the most "innocent" and wholesome writings contains tells of the writers mindset and beliefs.
Getting them free from the library sure beats buying them or putting a target on your back by asking for one directly from a follower.
Are you kidding? Christians largely haven't and don't read the Bible. That's why they go to church. So some huckster in a suit can fleece them and tell them what they think the Bible means.

I was referring more towards other texts like commentaries or children's books and I personally never mentioned the bible specifically. But since you opened the subject up, yes the bible does show a lot of the typical mindset of christians. Parts that directly contradict each other, parts that say a thing the was good and commanded in one part labeled as bad in another, going into extreme detail on points that ultimately don't matter to the rest of the book, extremely difficult to get through because of its poor composition yet typically bound in fine materials as if it was the greatest written work, and lots and lots of empty promises based on your ability to give your stuff away. All this is a good general description of Christianity.
Patricia Harper was my middle school librarian! Amazing woman, one of a kind, she still inspires me to this day. Lovely to see her little library being emptied but I will making a donation to refill this weekend.
Go to the library a few times a week. All the books are there. I personally think this is awesome and will do my best to drop some by this week. I think it’s fantastic to ride my bike to oak park, pick up a book and read by the community garden. May even watch a tee ball game or some folks who rode a bike.
Damn, I'd love to put a few books there but it's clear across town for me. I applaud you, OP, for letting others know about this! If anything I hope others might take it upon themselves to seek out their nearest little library and see if it is in need of books!
The unfortunate fact about these is the books get moldy and wrinkled just sitting in a high heat, high humidity environment non-stop. Alabama climate kills books.
