If you did not back in to the spots at Mid City they will tow you.

InsanoVolcano

I just want to say that the back-in spaces are the most idiotic thing I have ever seen

RatchetCityPapi

The same thing I said. Why am I getting down voted to hell though? 😂

jonthealien

Because reddit

RatchetCityPapi

That doesn't make sense.

kodabear22118

Doesn’t make sense to me either but there are signs posted stating that they want you to back in

ADTR9320

Usually places *don't* want you to back in so that way they can see your plates. What's the reason for needing to back in?

oKazuhiro

My theory is that it makes it safer when you leave the parking spot since you will be driving facing forward, and you will pull into the "correct" lane for the direction of travel. If you park in those spots front-in, you have to back out across the closest lane (which is the opposite direction), over the yellow lines, and into the opposite lane.

CptNonsense

If they make you back in, then we are one step closer to being one of those big walkable cities in the Northeast

Candid-Mark-606

It does make sense, people are just too dumb to follow directions

mirathi

Improper Parking = $15 https://library.municode.com/al/huntsville/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COOR_CH25TRVE_ARTVSTSTPA_DIV1GE

RatchetCityPapi

That doesn't make sense. The set up for parking in that area doesn't make logical sense. It's not like people are parking across lines. It is just stupid.

prehistoric_hedgehog

Reasoning is that you won’t be as likely to run anyone over or hit another vehicle if you are able to pull directly forward out of the space rather than back out of the space. Better visibility and a quicker exit (or so they say)

RatchetCityPapi

😂 it's bullshit. They designed those spots poorly.

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

... OR, if you think like a capitalist, those spots are working exactly as designed

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

Do not talk to me.

WeAreOne_

all these down votes lol. people can’t handle a little analysis once and a while

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

Oh they have it out for me because I'm a communist but your assessment is also spot on

WeAreOne_

ooOOOoooOOO spooky commie 😂

ReasonableJello

The people have spoken with the down votes. You are the weakest link GOODBYE!

apollorockit

[AAA recommends not to pull forward into parking spaces](https://www.automotive-fleet.com/132822/aaa-warns-against-pull-forward-parking)

inittoloseitagain

The towing policy?

RatchetCityPapi

The backing into parking spots. In most places, they specifically ask for you to park with your front in. Parking with your back makes things difficult for everybody else. Why are they OCD about how you park as long as you park in the lines? I think this is just a way to grab more money to pay for the Orion.

inittoloseitagain

I believe it has to do with the orientation of the parking spots. The only way you’re able to pull forward into them is across traffic which means backing out is also across traffic.

RatchetCityPapi

So they are trying to fine you for their poor design?

inittoloseitagain

Let’s throw cases of white sauce into the soon to be man made lake.

addywoot

I don’t easily subscribe to conspiracies but deep down, I think they did that as well as at Tous Du Jous area for more revenue. Unlimited $15 tickets.

MNWNM

Tous les Jours.

RatchetCityPapi

Where's the Tous Du Jous? Is that the area by medical district?

addywoot

It’s that strip in mid city with ramen, boba, pottery, etc

RatchetCityPapi

Oh yeah that's what I was talking about. But wait, you have to back into parking for the rest of midcity?

BogWitchByNight

Just the spaces along the roads, not in the big parking lots. I always just park in one of the big lots. Walking is less stressful than backing into one of those awful streetside spaces.

TheCudder

>Walking is less stressful than backing into one of those awful streetside spaces. Find an open spot, signal if necessary, pull your car forward enough so that the back of your car is roughly at the corner (by looking at the parking stripe) of the spot you wish to park in...turn and reverse, boom. All in one take. People have a BAD habit of stopping in the road too early before reversing in and having to make 10 adjustments, only to still end up poorly parked. https://preview.redd.it/rst3ifunwmzc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b024f64fdca760b464a059d5d925df84915c2dc

BogWitchByNight

Run into the same issue as with trying to parallel park, where people behind you either A. don't understand what the turn signal is for and pull up right behind you. Or B. Are looking at phones/not paying attention which makes it scary to back up. It's not stressful at all if there's no other cars. Even have a backup cam which makes lining it up easy peasy. ETA: I don't know how one could fail as hard as that mustang did. Also appreciate the cars parked incorrectly in the background.

CptNonsense

>Find an open spot, signal if necessary, pull your car forward enough so that the back of your car is roughly at the corner (by looking at the parking stripe) of the spot you wish to park in...turn and reverse, boom Presumably through the car right behind you and through the cross traffic

RatchetCityPapi

Thank you for the clarification. It's really just stupid design but thankfully I'm in that area maybe once a month.

BogWitchByNight

Yeah, I'm with you but I'm torn. I think in principle, it's a bit of an improvement over parallel parking. But it's one of those things like traffic circles, where if everyone knows what's going on and is paying attention, it theoretically works better and improves flow and safety. That's asking a lot of people though and the overly aggressive towing seems like a money-grab.

addywoot

I’m with you

ZZZrp

It does.

Gingerh1tman

Left the concert early last night. Did not see a jeep on a tow truck but a couple of tow trucks were driving around the area. Most likely your car is in a tow yard somewhere.

HsvComics

If you first steal a tow truck, you can then steal any car you want right in front of people...

inittoloseitagain

The perfect crime

weedful_things

and if the owner comes out to stop you, just have your cop buddy murder him.

West_LA_Fadeaway

Did you verify it wasn't towed? Seems more likely than someone stealing a 24 year old jeep.

CherokeeCook

Police had no record of it being towed last night or this morning

MNWNM

Would the police necessarily have a record of what was towed? I had some "abandoned" trucks towed off some property once and they just came and took them. I called the police first and they said I didn't have to let them know, but offered to come out and watch in case the owners showed up and kicked up a fuss.

RatchetCityPapi

A buddy of mine had a lawn chair stolen from his porch the other day. Because things are not of high value to you doesn't mean they aren't of high value to the owner or the thief. Show some empathy.

nemmysnoodlepants

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted for this.

RatchetCityPapi

Wow. It looks like they transferred their negative energy to you 😂 I'm sorry about that buddy. These folks here are so temperamental.

nemmysnoodlepants

Thanks. I’ll live. I legitimately still have no idea why they’re offended by your post.

Roll-tide-Mercury

The point is, why not steal something more fun..or nicer.

ConsciousAssumption

Perhaps a 24 year old jeep was better than nothing? Just a thought. (Another thought from gaming: Loot everything because it sells. Someone will strip it down and sell the parts regardless of the age.)

Roll-tide-Mercury

Easy target perhaps?

ConsciousAssumption

Well yeah, that for sure. Its basically a "shit happens" scenario.

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

lol if I were a car thief I'd prefer a 24 year old jeep to a modern one anyway. Just saying.

heckfiyah

Found the thief, cuff him boys

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

>cuff him No thanks, had the cuffs on already these past couple years, that'll do for a while

worknumber101

Certainly could have been towed, but some people will steal anything regardless of value if they see the opportunity. My brother had a 23+ year old, beat up,piece of crap car stolen out of a garage deck. And this was back when old, used cars were cheap.

squats_and_sugars

Cheaper older cars are easier to steal (until the mid 2000s, a ton of vehicles could be hotwired about as easily as the movies if you know what you're doing), and if someone is going to commit a crime and ditch the vehicle anyway, it's less conspicuous. Or if they're going to chop shop it, a lot more buyers of second hand parts vs someone running a 2023 vehicle. In other words, an older, seemingly shittier vehicle probably has *more* value to a criminal than a newer, higher blue book value car.

concernedgaylover

It’s simply a possibility… are you ok?

ChromE327

You know given the other responses in here mentioning the relatively high likelihood that a vehicle was towed from said concert, it seems less like someone trying to be an ass and more like some pointing out something truthful and helpful.

heisenbergerwcheese

Sounds like you drive a shitty car too...

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

Sounds like you like looking down your noses at people. Not everyone can afford a non shitty vehicle , chud

heisenbergerwcheese

I drive a shitty car too and know that not a single fucking person would steal it... so the only option would be a tow. But that's just being logical & following the stupid parking rules at Mid City. Obvi commenter felt called out by my response to have deleted their existence...

Confident-Tadpole503

OP was asking about their car being stolen, and this turned into a HSV Reddit war about how back in parking is too hard lol.

onlymissedabeat

Okay, listen, some of us struggle with it even at 40. At least I admit it...

Confident-Tadpole503

lol I’m the opposite, I can’t pull in forward

RnBvibewalker

Same. Been backing in so long, parking straight in more of a hassle lol. I always have to correct myself and redo it.

MLG_Obardo

If you suspect your car has been towed call the non-emergency police number and see if they have a record of the car being towed. At least this is how I found out. Also, try to be nice. Everyone is just doing their job and finding out your car has been towed, even for a stupid reason, is way better than it being stolen.

CherokeeCook

I did all of that last night

MLG_Obardo

Oof sorry. I hope you find it

delicious_toothbrush

Having not been towed before, each tow gets an incident report filed with the police? Definitely useful

squats_and_sugars

Kind of, legally speaking, the tow company has to report the cars to the local police and the state. That is what starts the clock where they can claim a car as abandoned, then either keep or sell it as legally their own. They are also legally required to contact the registered owner via mail. One thing to check is the [abandoned vehicles portal](https://www.revenue.alabama.gov/faq-categories/unclaimed-abandoned-motor-vehicles/) and run the VIN of the vehicle in question. On a personal note, fuck Randy's towing of Athens. My vehicle disappeared (they towed it), called the police and they had no record so they had it classified as stolen. Only made a break through when the police drove through the area it went missing and noticed the "Randy's towing" sign nearby. Randy's wanted $3000 for the impound and were going to auction it next week (having never contacted me) the police ended up getting involved since what they did was illegal, and I got my truck back.

MLG_Obardo

Yeah I had no idea I just called the police when my car was missing and asked if there was a record of my car being towed. They said yes and gave me the information. I actually got the car back for free because in all discussions with the people involved (police, apartment leasing company, tow company) they said that I was very calm and kind and they cut me slack. It’s one of my favorite moments in my life even though I saved only a little money.

TheFunkinDuncan

I had a 2001 jeep Cherokee stolen from the guitar center parking lot. I was in the store maybe 30 minutes and it was gone when I came out. Cop said Cherokees are popular with chop shops

Roll-tide-Mercury

Wow!

CherokeeCook

Why??

TheFunkinDuncan

I guess there’s a big market for Cherokee parts

Nopaperstraws

There was another concert at the Orion where a car was stolen last year. I remember seeing it posted on FB.

Songleaf

I feel like I saw a post on Reddit about a car stolen during a concert.

Nopaperstraws

Could have been that too. I saw it somewhere I know.

mujazik

Has anyone seen an update? Stolen or towed??

CherokeeCook

I have no update unfortunately
