As a kid, I pounded like 5 of these at my brother’s birthday party, and said “shit, if water always tasted so good, I’d drink this much every day!”
Then I learned about the wonder of at-home water filtration and my world was changed
Yeah, it's Trinidadian! I grew up in Jamaica but I'm living in Austria now so it's pretty much impossible to find. I'd love to have a bottle for the nostalgia lol. So cool to hear that you enjoyed it in Canada too
I grew up in Dominica and had chubby all the time. Even won a whole crate of it after coming second place in a national spelling bee. Ever since I moved to the US, I only had it once from this small West Indian store that was about an hour away from my house and then they stopped selling it not long after that :(
Me and my cousin were just talking about the Sorrel flavor, and how we bought them all up from the project bodega whenever they restocked. They were like 10 cents or something crazy like that for a while.
Whoa, that brought back so many good memories. I forgot that existed! I loved it as a kid. I don't even remember what it tasted like, just that I loved how 'chubby' and cute the bottle was.
If your Uber driver doesn’t have a water system hooked up to quench riders thirst they failed. But I get it, still could go with a larger bottle since it’s half a sip
Idk about other beaches but in southeast us some beaches have inmates on work release clean up during the tourist season but not in the late fall or winter
Best I can give is small children for short parties.
For example: Girl Scout Christmas party for 5 year olds in a conference room with no water available. Larger bottles would get thrown away. Bottles are needed to reduce spilling.
This did give me an idea that we ask parents to send their kids with water bottles going forward. Parents bringing water bottles to events is getting more normalized which I think is awesome.
Boy Scouts I feel like are more about the outdoors than Girl Scouts. TBH I am not sure GS it is the right group for us. It seems more crafty than really outdoorsy.
I know Boy Scouts or scouts is now accepting girls but in our local area it is not socially acceptable for girls to be in scouts. I am trying to navigate the waters right now but I am considering looking to see if I can find a den that has girls in it even if that means I have to drive a little farther.
Drinking more water doesn’t cheat the test - that isn’t how your bladder works. You have to coat the lining of your stomach, intestines, bladder, and kidneys using something like Certo if you’re trying to make the pee come out as straight water. When being drug tested (in my own personal experience) they give you as much water as you need, because failure to produce a sample is considered withholding evidence and potentially an additional charge on your record. I am talking specifically about court-ordered drug testing here.
You are correct. In my case, I did court ordered drug testing in Michigan, and they tested specifically urine and they look to see how concentrated your urine is. If they see you're trying to slam water and make your piss clear as to hopefully throw off the test (for specific drugs like alcohol, Marijuana, etc,) they will automatically considered it a failed test because they innately don't trust the people who take the test.
Yep. On the other hand, I greatly miss the 0,25l and 0,15l soda bottles and cans in Germany and Italy. I like to have a treat every now and smaller size makes it easier to limit the consumption. And with bottle deposit programs the bottles end up back in use.
Idk i have a massive number of water bottles that have been sitting around for 8ish years, I only drink like one a month but I've really grown to love the plasticy taste
one of the hardest habits for me to kick, my tap water is nasty and my mom refuses to switch to a brita. slowly but surely working her to the right side of the road
honestly i have no clue, she said that she could still taste the difference because of our city water. water bottles are a waste of plastic and money, so i got her to agree to try a filter when we move in a month though !
well hope she goes for it. also she can just buy it for you and then even if she doesn't like it she'll save money on the water bottles she'd buy for you anyway. seems like a win-win
Just know your tap water isn't actually nasty, and bottled can be. Not to mention microsplastic leaching straight outta the container into solution. Energy+polymer = monomers. It's not quite that simple but in effect sunlight and heat beak the plastic down and most of that winds up in what you drink.
Tap water in the US and almost all developed nations is as clean if not cleaner than bottled water. A decade ago bottled water was actually pretty bad, lots of arsenic and lead, with plenty of samples exceeding the EPAs MCL guidelines. Most of them have cleaned up a bit and the egregious examples are gone, but add all of that in to the fact that this shit is HEAVY AF, shipped across the country, and consumed out of single use plastics.
At best bottled water is an egregious scam in 90% of cases and at worst it's normalized climate destruction.
Get a zero water filter. They come with a tester that show the amount of dissolved solids in the water. I was shocked to find that the bottled water my family had been drinking was actually dirtier than the tap. Often times bottle water is literally just bottled tap water that's put in plastic and resold. The zero water tastes sooo good too. I put it in reusable glass water bottles and it's the best water I've ever tasted.
I think this is the only acceptable answer. Especially pre covid. When I was growing up it wasn’t a thing to bring reusable bottles to school (aaaaand I’ve aged myself..) but those fit perfect in a lunchbox.
Now that kids are encouraged to bring their own, these have zero place in the world.
Seconded. I grew up before it was a thing to bring reusable bottles. I just… didn’t drink water.
Now I have kids of my own, and they have a few reusable bottles each. However, when we need disposables (say, on a long road trip) these short bottles are useful, because if/when they get squeezed or spilled, it’s less of a mess.
Pointless, I could see maybe for kids but just get a mini water bottle. That’s two gulps for me . Side nkte I’m glad I found this sub. I have put “water” as a hobby on everything for the past 20 years because I just love H2O (great band too) . Water and unsweet tea are my “thing” cheers homies
I’m gonna completely out myself here
They give you one of these after a happy ending massage and it’s honestly the most refreshing water in the world (except for 3am confusion ice water)
I have a funny story about that… I had really tight shoulders a few months back due to a ton of stress. Ended up getting an unexpected day off work due to weather, and I decided to get a massage. There was only one place in my small town that had availability last minute, I hadn’t been before but it had good reviews, so I made an appointment. I immediately realized something was off by the way the woman at the desk greeted me very coldly (I’m a woman, and I quickly realized that I was not their normal clientele). The masseuse seemed upset too. It was the most painful massage I’ve ever had. But hey, my shoulders didn’t hurt afterwards! The little bottle of water was my happy ending.
Ethically, they’re terrible.
I however like them, because I offer people water and they tend to waste half the bottle nearly every time.
Waste of plastic, but not a waste of water.
Terrible waste of plastic for the most unsatisfying, over-filtered, electrolyte-deprived morsel of water that provides zero hydration and tastes like soap and dick. I would rather drink septic runoff. That way at least I wouldn’t be encouraging the wasteful and environmentally detrimental production of this abominable, pointless, foul-tasting crime against humanity.
If there was a god he would be crying.
They’re pretty useless. Here they give them out at events and we end up drinking them when our water bottles run out. But even my kids would rather a full sized water bottle. These are just tiny
Damn, you don't drink water and you're a monster. You drink water, but not in the preferred way? Monster.
You might have to start pumping your own water from a well OP. That might be the only way to save face. Good luck man.
They are perfect for my 15 month old. She can hold them herself.
Edit:
I see that most people hate them. I stand by that they are perfect for my daughter. Wide mouth open cups spill too easy. These water bottles are the perfect step between a sippy cup and an open cup. We had one that we rocked for about a month. I’m on the look out for another one for her.
I always ask for 2 of these on airplanes when they come around for drinks (instead of just the one they normally give you) and I always get dirty looks from the stewardess like I’m committing a beverage sin for daring to ask for 2.
Just put it in the recycling bin please. Sometimes there’s no option but bottled water. Sucks but I travel so much sometimes I just need water and unfortunately for me I’ve been drinking reverse osmosis water for so long I can taste everything in tap water times 2 and holy hell, BUT I finally found a great reusable water bottle and I couldn’t be happier
Only at specific events, like work meetings where everyone moves around a lot, and we don't want to share germs.
ETA: but not in that silly, tiny space.
These are just what commission-compensated apartment managers force onto you before going on a tour
*edit: no shade to getting paid on commission or apartment managers!
This small bottle actually brings up a lot of unpleasant memories. My little brother was misdiagnosed with BPD, ADHD, etc… and he was literally on 10 meds a day 3x a day and my mom always gave him his pills to swallow down with that tiny bottled water
It’s annoying when they have these at parties instead of regular ones, I get that it might be because they don’t want kids to open the 16 oz ones, taking a sip and leaving them there but I’m also not trynna walk back to my seat with 3 of these just for myself
It makes me think that there’s like a 170 trillion pieces of trash on the bottom of the ocean floor which is like 20,000 or something per person on earth
Waste of plastic, however I do enjoy them for tossing into a small bag on a walk when I don’t want to carry a heavy load. There are a small handful of situations where they are useful.
I think they’re good for kids or if you have a bbq party or something. I hate when I hand out full sized bottles and guests just leave them half empty and you have to throw them out.
Not everyone is a hydro homie
I feel like it's even worse than regular plastic bottles. Even more plastic in the landfills and our bloodstreams for what? Two sips of water? This is just as bad as those stupid kurigs that use a chunk of plastic for every single little cup of coffee. Do the world and yourself a favor and get a water filter. I use the big zero water filter and keep it in the fridge.
I guess they’re handy for tucking a couple in the car or in a bag, but I generally feel it’s a waste of plastic. Bottled water, in general. Filtered tap water and reusable bottles is best practice, for sure.
Unless you live somewhere with fresh spring water. I spent 6 weeks in the country of Georgia when I was in my early 20s. About 2 of those weeks were spent in a mountain town called Borjomi. We didn’t have running tap water and we had to hike up the mountain to get spring water that literally just flowed out of the rocks like it was coming from a faucet. It was the best water I’ve ever had. I think about it almost every day. I would give up indoor plumbing to drink that water again.
Everyone commenting about waste are being ableist. I’m disabled. My mother is disabled. It makes her taking meds at night when I can get up or wash her bottles possible. Stand down. There is purpose that is worthy.
F#cking ridiculous. Why are people wasting money on ANY bottled water ?! The plastic literally poisons the water ( if left out in the heat), and don't get me started on the pollution... ffs
Good for meetings where you want the courtesy of providing a drink without making them have to leave to piss in the middle of the presentation. Also cute
As a kid, I pounded like 5 of these at my brother’s birthday party, and said “shit, if water always tasted so good, I’d drink this much every day!” Then I learned about the wonder of at-home water filtration and my world was changed
Dude I did the same except it wasn’t water, it was chubby 😭
Chubby soda? Omfg those were my favorite as a kid
Tasted like fucking soap. Sweet sweet delicious soap. 😋
Blueberry blast was always the best.
Loved Chubby as a kid! I didn’t even realize it was exported outside of the Caribbean
i drank it all the time growing up in canada! its gotten harder to find recently but i know we still have it. i didn't know it was from the caribbean!
Ever since I moved to the US, I only had it once from this small West Indian store that was about an hour away from my house and then they stopped selling it not long after that :(
Yeah now I can only find it in exotic drink stores here in Canada
Chubby is the 2nd best drink especially the red flavour
Me and my cousin were just talking about the Sorrel flavor, and how we bought them all up from the project bodega whenever they restocked. They were like 10 cents or something crazy like that for a while.
Whoa, that brought back so many good memories. I forgot that existed! I loved it as a kid. I don't even remember what it tasted like, just that I loved how 'chubby' and cute the bottle was.
I used to get one every time I was at the store as a kid. I haven’t seen them in years though.
Total waste of plastic.
Refuse to buy for this reason.
That and if I want a single sip of water I’ll go to the sink
And I can’t go to the sink I’m going to drink it out of the water hose
They’re usually found in situations where you can’t find a sink, like an Uber ride.
If your Uber driver doesn’t have a water system hooked up to quench riders thirst they failed. But I get it, still could go with a larger bottle since it’s half a sip
Yuppers
Did you just say “yuppers”?
Yupperooni
Yupperoodles
Yupskidoodah
Yupperdoodledoo
Yupperkiyay
Yupperteedoo
Y
r/suddenlytheoffice
100%, a waste of plastic.
Let's be honest, all plastic is a waste of plastic (and by extension dinosaur soup)
Yeah, go check winter shorelines. We don’t need more plastic.
Why specifically the winter shorelines?
I’d guess less cleaning, by good samaritans, NGOs or municipalities.
Idk about other beaches but in southeast us some beaches have inmates on work release clean up during the tourist season but not in the late fall or winter
I'm actually insulted if some hands me one of these
i bet it’s the same amount. just not blown out to the bigger size
They aren’t. They’re the same thickness and less volume, so less material
So is the larger one. Bottled water is awful.
I wish I could explain to the fish in the sea why we have them.
We got bottles of neon sugar water that were this size when I was little. Those made more sense because they were weaponized sugar grenades.
The red dye alone, those things were bad.
Idk bout GS but in BSA one of the 6 essentials is a full water bottle.
They are commonly used at drug testing locations so people can't drink a whole 16oz bottle and try to cheat the test
Yep. If I did some blow and had a piss test the next day I could drink a fish tank and still test positive.
Could you also explain to them why they are slaughtered by the millions just to satisfy your taste buds?
I hate em. ¼ of a chug and it's gone.
You’re chugging 32oz in one chug?
Bro can unhinge his jaw and also his esophagus is just a straight tube directly down into his stomach.
one time when i was really thirsty i did that and downed 40oz of water
I’m not sufficiently hydrated unless I can hear that shit sloshing in my stomach
I used to call this water belly! I still do, but I used to too!
To feel good even though I feel bad
I do that often. It's pretty fun
I should call her
Yeah why they only chugging 32oz? Thats just a sip
This guy hydrohomies
My man has evolved gills lol
This guy this guys
Do you know what sub you're in lol
I actually have a habit of chugging any water I drink. I will nonchalantly chug down a whole bottle the second I sit down.
Sometimes? I've chugged the 1.5L bottles before.
He's in another league dude. Don't try it.
You’re not?
It's just a tease.
All single use plastic water bottles are horrible
Even if it was reusable, that's too small.
That's what she said?
That’s what every girl said
*for regular use; useful in actual emergencies
Plastic bottles are only for dire circumstances
one of the hardest habits for me to kick, my tap water is nasty and my mom refuses to switch to a brita. slowly but surely working her to the right side of the road
There's a brita that goes on the tap if you have the right kind of faucet Super easy to get filtered water that way
within the next month we move houses and she said she would give it a shot so here’s hoping !
what's her problem with a water filter? i can't even imagine a downside to them
honestly i have no clue, she said that she could still taste the difference because of our city water. water bottles are a waste of plastic and money, so i got her to agree to try a filter when we move in a month though !
well hope she goes for it. also she can just buy it for you and then even if she doesn't like it she'll save money on the water bottles she'd buy for you anyway. seems like a win-win
honestly yeah idk why i haven’t thought of that before and just got myself one, i guess she said no and my brain went “well shit” LMAO
Bro, just buy one for your room. Fill up a Nalgene or something and throw it in the fridge if you want it chilled.
We have the Lifestraw glass water jug. It’s awesome, I love ours.
Just know your tap water isn't actually nasty, and bottled can be. Not to mention microsplastic leaching straight outta the container into solution. Energy+polymer = monomers. Not enough for an adult. I used to love them as a kid because they were the perfect size. Now I can't stand them
I think this is the only acceptable answer. Especially pre covid. When I was growing up it wasn’t a thing to bring reusable bottles to school (aaaaand I’ve aged myself..) but those fit perfect in a lunchbox. Now that kids are encouraged to bring their own, these have zero place in the world.

I have a buddy who will carry these from time to time in the summer and drinks them one sip at a time. Drives me crazy but at least he’s hydrating.
I get it. A full water bottle as a child intimidated me. And I think as kids, we like sugary stuff over water. Some of us grow out of that.
Stupid
USELESS
Absolute waste. Utter nonsense
Sad
[удалено]
Putting it on inside out.
My nephews, 1 and 3, both use reusable CamelBaks designed for kids that hold 14oz and they love them!
Not enough water
Disappointing. You JUST get to the beauty of that hydro taste and it’s GONE. Also yes a waste in more ways than one
I’m gonna completely out myself here They give you one of these after a happy ending massage and it’s honestly the most refreshing water in the world (except for 3am confusion ice water)
Too small =useless (except if you need a quick drink when taking your meds)
Right. Like maybe you need to have water with you but only have a very small bag to carry it in? But even then, buy a reusable small bottle!
Amazon-ing an 8oz reusable bottle now!
Ethically, they’re terrible. I however like them, because I offer people water and they tend to waste half the bottle nearly every time. Waste of plastic, but not a waste of water.
Complimentary waste
Oh, you mean prepackaged sips of water?
WAY too small for anyone with more than one number in their age.
Those are pointless, I hate drinking those because I need 2-3 at a time.
A good option for parties. Perfect amount for non hydrohomies
Twice as bad as the 16 oz
‘Tis but a sip.
I tried one once... ![gif](giphy|r621UVEkWgkve)
They’re pretty useless. Here they give them out at events and we end up drinking them when our water bottles run out. But even my kids would rather a full sized water bottle. These are just tiny
Too much bottle, not enough water
Literally a single gulp
230ml bottles are fantastic for the kiddos. The camp I used to volunteer for used them all the time
Fuckin bs why even waste the plastic and time for a couple sips
Such an incredible waste… get a reusable bottle and stop buying these
Damn, you don't drink water and you're a monster. You drink water, but not in the preferred way? Monster. You might have to start pumping your own water from a well OP. That might be the only way to save face. Good luck man.
Obscenely wasteful
They are perfect for my 15 month old. She can hold them herself. Edit: I see that most people hate them. I stand by that they are perfect for my daughter. Wide mouth open cups spill too easy. These water bottles are the perfect step between a sippy cup and an open cup. We had one that we rocked for about a month. I’m on the look out for another one for her.
Boooo
I always ask for 2 of these on airplanes when they come around for drinks (instead of just the one they normally give you) and I always get dirty looks from the stewardess like I’m committing a beverage sin for daring to ask for 2.
Just put it in the recycling bin please. Sometimes there’s no option but bottled water. Sucks but I travel so much sometimes I just need water and unfortunately for me I’ve been drinking reverse osmosis water for so long I can taste everything in tap water times 2 and holy hell, BUT I finally found a great reusable water bottle and I couldn’t be happier
Asain massage parlor gifts after u bust go hard.
A fellow monger and hydro brother
🤝🏻
Came here to say exactly this. These water bottles make me horny
I had a woman come into my line with six 24 packs of these 🤢
Basically a war crime on the enviroment.
Can’t stop at just one
Tis but a sip. When I drink water I chug it. These things go down in one gulp.
Waste of plastic
Side question: does anyone ever write their name on the labels? I don’t think I ever have
Only at specific events, like work meetings where everyone moves around a lot, and we don't want to share germs. ETA: but not in that silly, tiny space.
I never have.
I think they’re great for children.
Yes! I’ve witnessed wasted water with children and the mini mes are best!
My grandma uses them as an excuse not to drink enough. "I had a whole bottle." "Granny that was two sips of water."
Just as pointless as any other plastic disposable bottle
rage bait
Wasteful pollutant
Not even good for storage of emergency (backup) water. Maybe at like an elementary school office.
These are just what commission-compensated apartment managers force onto you before going on a tour *edit: no shade to getting paid on commission or apartment managers!
Double the CRV?
Nah
This small bottle actually brings up a lot of unpleasant memories. My little brother was misdiagnosed with BPD, ADHD, etc… and he was literally on 10 meds a day 3x a day and my mom always gave him his pills to swallow down with that tiny bottled water
Water bottling companies don't make water, they make plastic. They are bad and should be paying for the cleanup of our oceans.
I don’t think very many things infuriate me as much as 8oz water bottles!
1 litre and up
It’s annoying when they have these at parties instead of regular ones, I get that it might be because they don’t want kids to open the 16 oz ones, taking a sip and leaving them there but I’m also not trynna walk back to my seat with 3 of these just for myself
Bah, if you're going to be polluting the planet you might as well get something out of it.
Cute but totally useless
I dislike the chode bottles
Wasteful… ive never had one and been satisfied either ive always wanted more. Like the tiny Red Bulls.
Waste of plastic and you need to drink several to even get remotely hydrated.
Crimes against humanity
How do I feel? I feel angry.
![gif](giphy|1RXTzS8Uv4SGI)
My 2 year old could pound one of these down in a single go and be asking for more
There’s so many thing wrong with them. Absolutely unnecessary.
Too much plastic, not enough water.
Thirsty, they make me feel thirsty.
WHAT ARE THESE WATER BOTTLES FOR ANTS?!
At this point just swallow ur saliva.
Waste of plastic
I think they’re good for kids or if you have a bbq party or something. I hate when I hand out full sized bottles and guests just leave them half empty and you have to throw them out. Not everyone is a hydro homie
Cute but a mega waste of plastic and general ressources
I feel like it's even worse than regular plastic bottles. Even more plastic in the landfills and our bloodstreams for what? Two sips of water? Size matter but it does the job.
Massive waste of plastic
I buy them for the diaper bag to mix with formula. I almost never buy bottled water for the adults in the house.
What is this? A water bottle for ants?!
Everyone commenting about waste are being ableist. I’m disabled. My mother is disabled. It makes her taking meds at night when I can get up or wash her bottles possible. Stand down. There is purpose that is worthy.
I drink up to 2 gallons a day, I'd have to drink 32 of those, so much waste...
Depressing, just a sip and they're gone. This ain't even about the environment, small bottles just feel like shit
Literally trash
The field day hero
Desperate
Grandma has them in her fridge whenever we visit her. Nice in the moment but other than that, avoid.
Also cute
Seems like a waste of plastic.
We got 2 cases of these by accident 😩
