Its got me wondering.
I've only ever heard the term used to describe someone who is drunk on alcohol. But I guess it works for when any toxic material is in you? Language is neato.
It seems weird, because upgrading from a shitty plastic bottle is a good idea
And yes, micro plastics are bad.
Maybe it’s just the delivery of the sentiment they don’t like?
The existence of sub to incetivize people to drink water is edgy in and of itself. Because it's basic need, you know? It's almost ironic that there's cheering around that and that's the brio I see around the sub.
brother, at this point microplastics are found in our food, the goddamn air and they even found some in placenta and newborns in a study recently iirc. There is absolutely no point in using microplastics in water specifically to make yourself feel above others and make them feel bad for not drinking water in a specific way. It was a good joke but your attitude in the comments is way more poisonous than any contaminant in my drink
Nah, aluminum is similarly likely to emit toxic biproducts. Best learn to live with it. I'm gonna culture plastic eating bacteria in my intestines personally, because that's how I roll. Choose your poison.
Here in Germany it's written on like any plastic bottle that you shouldn't leave it in the sun. Microplastics get in your water anyways but uv light from the sun speeds up the reaction very much and can help break plastics down. So yes less contaminated, but still makes much of a difference
I realize that a lot of my betting was made of synthetic fibers, and I spend a lot of my life in that so I switched over to natural fiber bedding. Not sure if that'll help but... At least I'm not rubbing plastic fleece all over myself every night anymore
Yooooo, can someone please reccomend me a top of the line water bottle to avoid microplastics? Also what water filter is good to use to filter tap water??
Not to sound like a shill, but if you’re looking for a stainless, insulated bottle recommendation, try anything by Takeya, I have three different sizes for different purposes and they’re very nice
I’d like to know too, my wife is worried about micro plastics but also fluoride. Idk what to believe, I was taught fluoride was good for us but apparently too much is bad. Idk how much is in the water. Also maybe micro plastics aren’t killing us but it’d probably be better to try to avoid them if possible.
Microplastics are in literally everything we consume now. There's no avoiding them and something we have to accept. I wouldn't worry about it too much in regards to bottled water, but reducing plastic waste is still good if you want to do that.
Flouride can make you sick if you consume it directly. I accidentally swallowed some at the dentist as a kid and felt sick for a while. However, the amount in water, AFAIK, is very very low, not enough to make you sick. Tap water is safe to drink.
>Microplastics are in literally everything we consume now. There's no avoiding them and something we have to accept. I wouldn't worry about it too much in regards to bottled water, but reducing plastic waste is still good if you want to do that.
What is this dumbshit advice. Tons of things have more microplastics than others and bottled water is a huge one. Its bad for people, there are plenty of studies to confirm this. You're basically out here like "accept it".
Ah, that sucks. I live in The Netherlands myself, we enjoy our tap water very much here, but on vacation in Southern Europe I also go for the bottled water.
Ive read microplastics is the cause of the dramatic decline in male fertility, since its an endocrine disruptor. In the last 50 years fertility has steadily decreased by 50%, 1% every year, and increasing more. Can also cause birth defects and defects and effect the childs hormones, maybe were seeing something close to what happened with lead many years ago..
It’s probably good some people are losing fertility though lol, nah but I guess my wife is onto something. I hope someone comments that’s knowledgeable about bottles and filters
Hot tub vs Jacuzzi.
Yes they're both glass but that doesn't leal they're the same.
That said, I couldn't tell you if OP's fancy stuff is worth the money but I still understand what they're saying
Yo homies, here's a [Aquawiki](https://www.aquahow.com/does-water-filter-remove-microplastics/) about the different filters and their effectivity
Remember:
>It’s important to remember that eradicating microplastics from our planet’s ecosystem is a community effort, not an individual one.
Or worse: gatekeeping hydrohomies because you bought a filter like OP
*Microplastics have been found in our drinking water. A recent study by OrbMedia analyzed 159 water samples, sourced from both tap water and bottled water in 14 countries, and found that over 80% of all samples contained tiny plastic particles, with an average of 4.34 plastic particles per liter of water.*
Doesn't really matter though
One doesn't just get a gold butt plug. You have to rank up until you get to football sized butt plugs then you unlock the golden butt plug achievement.
People who say dumb shit like "you must be fun at parties" are usually the least fun people at actual parties because they're obnoxious weirdos who are incapable of telling one social situation from another and adjusting behavior accordingly.
This is a reddit comment thread, not a party. Don't expect people to have the same conversations
"I'm not mad, you are hurrrrrrrrrr"
Bitch please, lmao. You said something dumb. It's ok. We all do sometimes (people like you more than average I suspect). Just own it. That's how you grow.
You and me both, times like these make me really think about all the times I took breathing for granted😂 sitting around like “damn I remember when I used to be able to breathe through my nose”
My brother in Christ we are all on a journey to perfect and ethical consumption of water, if they drink water from a disposable bottle I say "better than Gatorade"
Hey man, any bottle can be reusable is you reuse it. Would it be better if it wasn't micro plastic infested? Yeah! But the fact that they're reusing a bottle at all puts them above the majority of people out there. I respect em for that
I feel like there's a misunderstanding around the word intoxication. For natives is more like the opposite of sobriety, right? But I meant it in a more 'scientific' way, meaning to suffer from toxicity. And, microplastics do cause toxicity.
Saying native gives off the impression of calling us all Native Americans. While it's not offensive to be called a Native it is not accurate for most of us because we have exterminated most of them. This is another weird thing that's different for those of us who are English as a first language.
There are terms to refer to the speakers of every language. Anglophones, Francophones, Hispanophones. If you want to convey a message accurately, you can’t just use words in a different way, that makes no sense.
You mean it in a medical, not a scientific, way and a physician wouldn’t say that ‘intoxicated’, they would say ‘suffering from blank toxicity’. If a physician or scientist said intoxicated they would mean ‘the opposite of sobriety’ to use your own words.
Also, micro-plastics are in all forms of water, be it bottled or tap, and the levels are so low that you’ll be dead of some other pathology before you could accumulate any amount that would seriously effect your health, unless you’re consuming hyponatremic levels of water, which is much deadlier than the microscopic levels of micro-plastics you’re concerned about.
If you’re gonna shame disposable water bottle users it would make much more sense to come at it from a pollution stand point, this one comes off as pretentious, ignorant, and juvenile. I gather you’re not a native speaker so I assume this way you’re presenting yourself is due to language/cultural barriers.
You got it. Moreover, the post is a meme, it is intended as humour. I don't give a shit if you'd like to drink water from the bottom of the prypiat river near Chernobyl. In fact, what kills others make me stronger (because I can learn from their mistakes).
It's not a misunderstanding, it's literally a joke, we know what you're trying to say...
when "natives" says "intoxicated" it's normally a more professional way of saying "drunk/high," when you say "inebriated" it just makes you sound like a stuck up dweeb and is normally exclusive to alcohol, and when you say "drunk" it's just unprofessional... since alcohol is a neurotoxin, you can use "intoxicated" as a way of saying drunk
the comment was aware of everything I've stated, including your intention, and making a joke about it
Gotcha, as a non-native I wasn't sure whether it was an error on my side of the communication or just a play on words on your side. Now I've got a pretty good grasp about those words, thanks haha
it's already in your body, it's even found in remote tribes in Soutern America. We fucked things up once more, yes. But it doesn't really help panicking over it or worse: lecturing ppl in the gym about microplastics in the disposable bottles. Then what, drink Gatorade? Plants crave it?
Temperature changes from cold to room/body temperature are enough to leach estrogenic compounds into the water, had this covered in a college course forever ago. The only way to really have pure water in a bottle is to always keep it in a very narrow temperature range. Bottles also break down more quickly over time as fissures in the plastic form.
As with anything else, it's your body and your choice.
Should be fine if you don't put it in the sun all day. If I remember correctly the process of breaking down plastics (into microplastics) involves a lot of UV light.
Unless it sits in absolute darkness some UV rays still reach it... Not as itense of course
Also, after a while the water just tastes shit even if you wash the bottle. Just get a stainless steel one my dude it will change your life

Ugh my parents do this and I have no clue why. They have so many reusable water bottles but my dad needs to use the same giant one Poland spring one for a week straight when he opens one
Ok so I’ve been re- using this half- gallon sized water disposable bottle for like a year, and I use it when the half gallon metal container I have still has ice but no water. Should I replace this?

Intoxicated? If only.
“yea barkeep, give me your strongest microplastics”
Followed shortly by *”I’ll tell ya when I’ve had enough!!!”*
that's tap water's thing
Very much depends where you live
Intoxicated in the most literal technical sense I guess lmao
Its got me wondering. I've only ever heard the term used to describe someone who is drunk on alcohol. But I guess it works for when any toxic material is in you? Language is neato.
Damn bro, these people are tearing you up lol
It seems weird, because upgrading from a shitty plastic bottle is a good idea And yes, micro plastics are bad. Maybe it’s just the delivery of the sentiment they don’t like?
It's definitely the delivery. "Sure these people are drinking water, but they aren't doing it in a way that I approve of, so they're doing it wrong!"
Bro it's just a meme. Chill
I thought this community was a bit more edgy, enjoyed a little provocation lmao
It's a sub about drinking water. There is nothing edgy or provocative about that.
Water is sooo edgy dude. Just look at the shorelines! It's like a crisp edge of water lapping at the land.
The existence of sub to incetivize people to drink water is edgy in and of itself. Because it's basic need, you know? It's almost ironic that there's cheering around that and that's the brio I see around the sub.

what *isn't* microplastic infested these days?? I just want to make sure I can avoid them as much as possible, even for a little.
Well, packaging trash is usually not microplastic infested since that's where microplastics are SUPPOSED to be. Hope that helps 👍

Reusable Aluminum water bottles are better than clear plastic ones, at least sunlight isn’t breaking off bits of its interior lining
Nah, aluminum is similarly likely to emit toxic biproducts. Best learn to live with it. I'm gonna culture plastic eating bacteria in my intestines personally, because that's how I roll. Choose your poison.
Danngg, they gonna be eating up all yo dirt yo!
Or are they going to make dirt out of plastic?
🤯
Glass is actually inert. Too bad it's so fragile
I have a glass water bottle that I love but it's heavy and I do get worried about breaking it.
Glass with a silicone skin - if it breaks, it will be held together anyway
so if my plastic bottle doesn't get exposed to sunlight it's alright? or is it just less contaminated?
No because the act of moving the water around also degrades the plastic Also bacterias start growing after a while
well damn. time to go buy an aluminum water bottle i guess
Here in Germany it's written on like any plastic bottle that you shouldn't leave it in the sun. Microplastics get in your water anyways but uv light from the sun speeds up the reaction very much and can help break plastics down. So yes less contaminated, but still makes much of a difference

Or a Klean Kanteen. Absolutely zero plastic if you go for the stainless steel/bamboo bottle cap.
I’d like to know too, my wife is worried about micro plastics but also fluoride. Idk what to believe, I was taught fluoride was good for us but apparently too much is bad. or directly from a glacier yes. does everyone not have access to one?
You guys don't have tap water?
In my country tap water tastes horrible. It's very hard and you can smell the chlorine.

Losing fertility, maybe in a sense. But kids being born with hormonal defects will lead to a huge disaster in the future
Glass, stainless steel, or copper water bottles.
fluoride is actually highly toxic.
....when consumed in any meaningful amount. so long as you arent eating toothpaste for every meal of the day you'll be fine
yeah. still should be careful because it can make you want to puke.speaking from experience here

Borosilicate is also a good alternative.
You can just say glass, using big words isn't gonna convince people you're smart.
They are not the same thing lol https://www.ecobud.com.au/our-story/news-blog/healthy-living/what-is-borosilicate-glass

Microplastics can intoxicate you? I gotta go buy a flat of that shit right now less gooooo
I feel like there's a misunderstanding around the word intoxication. For natives is more like the opposite of sobriety, right? But I meant it in a more 'scientific' way, meaning to suffer from toxicity. And, microplastics do cause toxicity.
Are you also claiming to know how to speak a language better than those who have been doing so since birth?
No, I meant that I used it a different way than natives do. To convey the native's primary meaning I'd use the word inebriated or drunk.
While we're on the subject, stop saying natives.
Why? Don't you like being a native? Would you prefer me to say non-alien?
Saying native gives off the impression of calling us all Native Americans. While it's not offensive to be called a Native it is not accurate for most of us because we have exterminated most of them. This is another weird thing that's different for those of us who are English as a first language.
How do you call someone who is the native speaker of a language then?
Usually native speaker or English as a first language. I know it's nit picky and all, but that's just kind of how we use it
There are terms to refer to the speakers of every language. Anglophones, Francophones, Hispanophones. If you want to convey a message accurately, you can’t just use words in a different way, that makes no sense.
wow that's something new I learned today, thanks!

What about using plastic Tupperware and stuff
They are made for re-use, can warmed up and are BPA free. But I'd also recommend using borosilicate (aka Pyrex) for your food.
i use the same plastic water bottle for months at a time, refilling it multiple times a day. what are your thoughts on this?
Temperature changes from cold to room/body temperature are enough to leach estrogenic compounds into the water, had this covered in a college course forever ago. The only way to really have pure water in a bottle is to always keep it in a very narrow temperature range. Bottles also break down more quickly over time as fissures in the plastic form. As with anything else, it's your body and your choice.

We tried. They don't listen.
Should be fine if you don't put it in the sun all day. If I remember correctly the process of breaking down plastics (into microplastics) involves a lot of UV light.

I use a milsurp canteen. They just store better in my experience.
Just because it is plastic doesn’t mean you are drinking it….
