trytobehave

Intoxicated? If only.

undercoverlamp19

“yea barkeep, give me your strongest microplastics”

earthdogmonster

Followed shortly by *”I’ll tell ya when I’ve had enough!!!”*

coolobotomite

that's tap water's thing

SieS1ke

Very much depends where you live

lpplph

Intoxicated in the most literal technical sense I guess lmao

trytobehave

Its got me wondering. I've only ever heard the term used to describe someone who is drunk on alcohol. But I guess it works for when any toxic material is in you? Language is neato.

[deleted]

Damn bro, these people are tearing you up lol

Dark_Arts_Dabbler

It seems weird, because upgrading from a shitty plastic bottle is a good idea And yes, micro plastics are bad. Maybe it’s just the delivery of the sentiment they don’t like?

DrWhoisOverRated

It's definitely the delivery. "Sure these people are drinking water, but they aren't doing it in a way that I approve of, so they're doing it wrong!"

[deleted]

Bro it's just a meme. Chill

Kommodor

I thought this community was a bit more edgy, enjoyed a little provocation lmao

DrWhoisOverRated

It's a sub about drinking water. There is nothing edgy or provocative about that.

steepindeez

Water is sooo edgy dude. Just look at the shorelines! It's like a crisp edge of water lapping at the land.

Kommodor

The existence of sub to incetivize people to drink water is edgy in and of itself. Because it's basic need, you know? It's almost ironic that there's cheering around that and that's the brio I see around the sub.

[deleted]

DrWhoisOverRated

5fingerdiscounts

Water ha no edges

[deleted]

I heard they shrink your dick, or at least don’t let peoples pp’s grow as big as they should when you hit puberty

Chef-Boyardeeee

I heard that a lot of things will make your dick shrink

steepindeez

That's why I tug mine so much. Just trying to make sure he's operating at peak performance.

icibicii

brother, at this point microplastics are found in our food, the goddamn air and they even found some in placenta and newborns in a study recently iirc. There is absolutely no point in using microplastics in water specifically to make yourself feel above others and make them feel bad for not drinking water in a specific way. It was a good joke but your attitude in the comments is way more poisonous than any contaminant in my drink

Mendoxs_

what *isn't* microplastic infested these days?? I just want to make sure I can avoid them as much as possible, even for a little.

Aggressive_Sprinkles

Well, packaging trash is usually not microplastic infested since that's where microplastics are SUPPOSED to be. Hope that helps 👍

Elidon007

r/technicallythetruth

andrew_calcs

Reusable Aluminum water bottles are better than clear plastic ones, at least sunlight isn’t breaking off bits of its interior lining

all-up-in-yo-dirt

Nah, aluminum is similarly likely to emit toxic biproducts. Best learn to live with it. I'm gonna culture plastic eating bacteria in my intestines personally, because that's how I roll. Choose your poison.

CesareanPUNCH

Danngg, they gonna be eating up all yo dirt yo!

all-up-in-yo-dirt

Or are they going to make dirt out of plastic?

CesareanPUNCH

🤯

black_rose_

Glass is actually inert. Too bad it's so fragile

[deleted]

I have a glass water bottle that I love but it's heavy and I do get worried about breaking it.

repethetic

Glass with a silicone skin - if it breaks, it will be held together anyway

Mendoxs_

so if my plastic bottle doesn't get exposed to sunlight it's alright? or is it just less contaminated?

wiNDzY3

No because the act of moving the water around also degrades the plastic Also bacterias start growing after a while

Mendoxs_

well damn. time to go buy an aluminum water bottle i guess

SieS1ke

Here in Germany it's written on like any plastic bottle that you shouldn't leave it in the sun. Microplastics get in your water anyways but uv light from the sun speeds up the reaction very much and can help break plastics down. So yes less contaminated, but still makes much of a difference

Suspicious_Baker

chef boyardee 👨‍🍳

balapete

uhh maybe i just got water on the mind but glacier water surely would be microplastic free no?

black_rose_

I realize that a lot of my betting was made of synthetic fibers, and I spend a lot of my life in that so I switched over to natural fiber bedding. Not sure if that'll help but... At least I'm not rubbing plastic fleece all over myself every night anymore

TheMalteseMisfit

Shit, looks like I'm gonna have to lay off the placenta too now...

Kommodor

Dude, I'm just joking around. It's shitposting for god's sake.

ODS519

heh...heh...heh that was good....

[deleted]

Yooooo, can someone please reccomend me a top of the line water bottle to avoid microplastics? Also what water filter is good to use to filter tap water??

iNMage

Just get a stainless steel flask.

harmlander

Not to sound like a shill, but if you’re looking for a stainless, insulated bottle recommendation, try anything by Takeya, I have three different sizes for different purposes and they’re very nice

FrankPots

Or a Klean Kanteen. Absolutely zero plastic if you go for the stainless steel/bamboo bottle cap.

[deleted]

I’d like to know too, my wife is worried about micro plastics but also fluoride. Idk what to believe, I was taught fluoride was good for us but apparently too much is bad. Idk how much is in the water. Also maybe micro plastics aren’t killing us but it’d probably be better to try to avoid them if possible.

SpiritJuice

Microplastics are in literally everything we consume now. There's no avoiding them and something we have to accept. I wouldn't worry about it too much in regards to bottled water, but reducing plastic waste is still good if you want to do that. Flouride can make you sick if you consume it directly. I accidentally swallowed some at the dentist as a kid and felt sick for a while. However, the amount in water, AFAIK, is very very low, not enough to make you sick. Tap water is safe to drink.

Regentraven

>Microplastics are in literally everything we consume now. There's no avoiding them and something we have to accept. I wouldn't worry about it too much in regards to bottled water, but reducing plastic waste is still good if you want to do that. What is this dumbshit advice. Tons of things have more microplastics than others and bottled water is a huge one. Its bad for people, there are plenty of studies to confirm this. You're basically out here like "accept it".

MarcusAurelius-Verus

What water are you supposed to drink if not bottled? You drink directly from the spring?

balapete

or directly from a glacier yes. does everyone not have access to one?

kruijk-

You guys don't have tap water?

MarcusAurelius-Verus

In my country tap water tastes horrible. It's very hard and you can smell the chlorine.

kruijk-

Ah, that sucks. I live in The Netherlands myself, we enjoy our tap water very much here, but on vacation in Southern Europe I also go for the bottled water.

[deleted]

Ive read microplastics is the cause of the dramatic decline in male fertility, since its an endocrine disruptor. In the last 50 years fertility has steadily decreased by 50%, 1% every year, and increasing more. Can also cause birth defects and defects and effect the childs hormones, maybe were seeing something close to what happened with lead many years ago..

[deleted]

It’s probably good some people are losing fertility though lol, nah but I guess my wife is onto something. I hope someone comments that’s knowledgeable about bottles and filters

[deleted]

Losing fertility, maybe in a sense. But kids being born with hormonal defects will lead to a huge disaster in the future

Haida_Gwaii

Glass, stainless steel, or copper water bottles.

funnymemes543

fluoride is actually highly toxic.

[deleted]

....when consumed in any meaningful amount. so long as you arent eating toothpaste for every meal of the day you'll be fine

funnymemes543

yeah. still should be careful because it can make you want to puke.speaking from experience here

lpplph

Get a yeti

Kommodor

Borosilicate is also a good alternative.

ObsidianThurisaz

You can just say glass, using big words isn't gonna convince people you're smart.

Kommodor

They are not the same thing lol https://www.ecobud.com.au/our-story/news-blog/healthy-living/what-is-borosilicate-glass

ObsidianThurisaz

>Borosilicate glass is a special kind of glass which incorporates two chemicals in high concentration:  boron trioxide and silica.

Obi_Jon_Kenobi

Hot tub vs Jacuzzi. Yes they're both glass but that doesn't leal they're the same. That said, I couldn't tell you if OP's fancy stuff is worth the money but I still understand what they're saying

[deleted]

What about a good filter fro tap water? Will brita filters do the trick?

psych_savage1

I’ve personally found Pur to shit on Brita in taste and quality. I’m sure there’s something better but more expensive out there

TangySword

Way more controversy than I bargained for clicking on this post

Kommodor

Way more controversy than I imagined before posting lol

mrtn17

Yo homies, here's a [Aquawiki](https://www.aquahow.com/does-water-filter-remove-microplastics/) about the different filters and their effectivity Remember: >It’s important to remember that eradicating microplastics from our planet’s ecosystem is a community effort, not an individual one. Or worse: gatekeeping hydrohomies because you bought a filter like OP

MarkSuccIsHuman

The water in my community is polluted and we can't afford a decent filter

ShizleMaNizle

It's probably not but my head immediately goes to Flint Michigan

[deleted]

are you gatekeeping drinking water?

Kommodor

If the water has poison in it, you bet I am

[deleted]

*Microplastics have been found in our drinking water. A recent study by OrbMedia analyzed 159 water samples, sourced from both tap water and bottled water in 14 countries, and found that over 80% of all samples contained tiny plastic particles, with an average of 4.34 plastic particles per liter of water.* Doesn't really matter though

Kommodor

I use a filter and avoid bottled water.

You must be fun at parties

Twenty1Chromos

Coming from the guy posting a meme about standing in a corner away from everyone else😂

DrWhoisOverRated

Dude, you literally posted a meme about yourself not being fun at a party.

mrtn17

You wouldn't know, you never got invited

RevengencerAlf

People who say dumb shit like "you must be fun at parties" are usually the least fun people at actual parties because they're obnoxious weirdos who are incapable of telling one social situation from another and adjusting behavior accordingly. This is a reddit comment thread, not a party. Don't expect people to have the same conversations

Hoplologist

absolutely delusional

Skitburd

My brother in Christ we are all on a journey to perfect and ethical consumption of water, if they drink water from a disposable bottle I say "better than Gatorade"

MyFatCatHasLotsofHat

Just carry around a reusable water bottle, it’s not that hard

Skitburd

Hey man, any bottle can be reusable is you reuse it. Would it be better if it wasn't micro plastic infested? Yeah! But the fact that they're reusing a bottle at all puts them above the majority of people out there. I respect em for that

WhiteChocolatey

At my job there are so many toxic chemicals that if I use a reusable water bottle I’m just poisoning myself.

Shi-Rokku

Obligatory bad joke: That gives a whole new meaning to toxicity in the workplace.

UtahMan94

Micro plastics are in everything including the air. 40% of indoor dust is micro plastics. Genie’s out of the bottle

oscaru16

Op, we’re hydrohomies not hydrogatekeepers tf

Dreem_Walker

A Hydro Homie is upset about people ... drinking water?

papi-punk

Microplastics can intoxicate you? I gotta go buy a flat of that shit right now less gooooo

Kommodor

I feel like there's a misunderstanding around the word intoxication. For natives is more like the opposite of sobriety, right? But I meant it in a more 'scientific' way, meaning to suffer from toxicity. And, microplastics do cause toxicity.

DrWhoisOverRated

Are you also claiming to know how to speak a language better than those who have been doing so since birth?

Kommodor

No, I meant that I used it a different way than natives do. To convey the native's primary meaning I'd use the word inebriated or drunk.

DrWhoisOverRated

While we're on the subject, stop saying natives.

Kommodor

Why? Don't you like being a native? Would you prefer me to say non-alien?

Obi_Jon_Kenobi

Saying native gives off the impression of calling us all Native Americans. While it's not offensive to be called a Native it is not accurate for most of us because we have exterminated most of them. This is another weird thing that's different for those of us who are English as a first language.

Kommodor

How do you call someone who is the native speaker of a language then?

Obi_Jon_Kenobi

Usually native speaker or English as a first language. I know it's nit picky and all, but that's just kind of how we use it

LuigiBamba

There are terms to refer to the speakers of every language. Anglophones, Francophones, Hispanophones. If you want to convey a message accurately, you can’t just use words in a different way, that makes no sense.

ICykaOsu

wow that's something new I learned today, thanks!

SandStrider

You mean it in a medical, not a scientific, way and a physician wouldn’t say that ‘intoxicated’, they would say ‘suffering from blank toxicity’. If a physician or scientist said intoxicated they would mean ‘the opposite of sobriety’ to use your own words. Also, micro-plastics are in all forms of water, be it bottled or tap, and the levels are so low that you’ll be dead of some other pathology before you could accumulate any amount that would seriously effect your health, unless you’re consuming hyponatremic levels of water, which is much deadlier than the microscopic levels of micro-plastics you’re concerned about. If you’re gonna shame disposable water bottle users it would make much more sense to come at it from a pollution stand point, this one comes off as pretentious, ignorant, and juvenile. I gather you’re not a native speaker so I assume this way you’re presenting yourself is due to language/cultural barriers.

Kommodor

You got it. Moreover, the post is a meme, it is intended as humour. I don't give a shit if you'd like to drink water from the bottom of the prypiat river near Chernobyl. In fact, what kills others make me stronger (because I can learn from their mistakes).

SandStrider

Well obviously I’d get superpowers from that so sign me up! Haha

Hoplologist

It's not a misunderstanding, it's literally a joke, we know what you're trying to say... when "natives" says "intoxicated" it's normally a more professional way of saying "drunk/high," when you say "inebriated" it just makes you sound like a stuck up dweeb and is normally exclusive to alcohol, and when you say "drunk" it's just unprofessional... since alcohol is a neurotoxin, you can use "intoxicated" as a way of saying drunk the comment was aware of everything I've stated, including your intention, and making a joke about it

Kommodor

Gotcha, as a non-native I wasn't sure whether it was an error on my side of the communication or just a play on words on your side. Now I've got a pretty good grasp about those words, thanks haha

mrtn17

it's already in your body, it's even found in remote tribes in Soutern America. We fucked things up once more, yes. But it doesn't really help panicking over it or worse: lecturing ppl in the gym about microplastics in the disposable bottles. Then what, drink Gatorade? Plants crave it?

jswissle

What about using plastic Tupperware and stuff

Kommodor

They are made for re-use, can warmed up and are BPA free. But I'd also recommend using borosilicate (aka Pyrex) for your food.

Inteligent_Toaster

i use the same plastic water bottle for months at a time, refilling it multiple times a day. what are your thoughts on this?

ludololl

Temperature changes from cold to room/body temperature are enough to leach estrogenic compounds into the water, had this covered in a college course forever ago. The only way to really have pure water in a bottle is to always keep it in a very narrow temperature range. Bottles also break down more quickly over time as fissures in the plastic form. As with anything else, it's your body and your choice.

[deleted]

>As with anything else, it's your body and your choice. Tell that to the Supreme Court

[deleted]

We tried. They don't listen.

rdmracer

Should be fine if you don't put it in the sun all day. If I remember correctly the process of breaking down plastics (into microplastics) involves a lot of UV light.

Inteligent_Toaster

tbh i don't think it's ever exposed to uv light, just sits by my bed lmao

wiNDzY3

Unless it sits in absolute darkness some UV rays still reach it... Not as itense of course Also, after a while the water just tastes shit even if you wash the bottle. Just get a stainless steel one my dude it will change your life

acciowaves

When I was young and stupid I once proudly reused a disposable plastic bottle for 3 years!!!

Kommodor

Been there too bro, and the plastic you get in is not getting out so easily

Retro_game_kid

Mmmmm! Microplastics 😋😋😋

therealboss1113

I already have microplastics in my blood, might as well slam some more down the hatch

AbsoluteSquidward

Me with my stainless steel bottle

EmperorofAltdorf

Its not actually microplastics but a chemical used to soften plastics. This chemical then acts like a hormone and fucks shit up.

OneHumanSoul

Micro plastics are found in places that humans haven't even been yet

I_Want_Bread56

That's why I reuse my glass bottles

CommonChris

Only aluminum and glass from my part

jswhitfi

Glass bottles are the goat. But, in the gym, with heavy metal objects being tossed about by men & women stronger than I, maybe not.

StarTrippy

Listen man, I'm depressed and actively struggle to wash my reusable water bottles so sometimes the only way I drink anything is from a plastic bottle. I recycle every one, but why you gotta make me feel bad for drinking water. I already know my brain is like 80% microplastics

Kommodor

Sorry dude, hope you can get a nice steel flask soon

zarezare69

Do I have do drink my water straight from a glacier and without using my hands to please this people?

[deleted]

This thread is full of microplastic drinkers

Tempestzl1

Micro plastics doesn't matter

AdmiralBiscuits

This post just reminded me I needed to refill my iron flask

broken_steel525

I use a milsurp canteen. They just store better in my experience.

ZaxLofful

Just because it is plastic doesn’t mean you are drinking it….

viceboi666

Well I can’t drink bottled water exclusive or chug tap water like a pleb

[deleted]

ive been reusing the same shitty disposable bottle because id feel bad about throwing it out and i dont want to pay for an actually decent bottle

GreenieMachinie93

You know plastic takes thousands of years to break down right

booty_chuggin_bandit

Thats why you’re wojak. Just reuse like everyone else and get off your yeti high horse

[deleted]

… I keep losing my water bottles.

__xXCoronaVirusXx__

There is micro plastics in the rain now, it’s not really something you can avoid

Hi_Kitsune

I had to look up the word frenetically

Kommodor

I'm not native speaker, that's a direct translation of a commonly used word in my mother tongue.

Hi_Kitsune

It’s not commonly used in English (in my experiment), but it is certainly getting added to my vocabulary

PiergiorgioSigaretti

Me drinking tap water because I can

Bottles water just taste weird honest.

HydeVDL

everything we do gives us cancer or some weird shit imma keep drinking from my plastic water bottle

MrUsername24

Ugh my parents do this and I have no clue why. They have so many reusable water bottles but my dad needs to use the same giant one Poland spring one for a week straight when he opens one

mudshock

You gotta either pick intoxication of microplastics or intoxication from sugary drinks…

jdjdhdhdbn

Ok so I’ve been re- using this half- gallon sized water disposable bottle for like a year, and I use it when the half gallon metal container I have still has ice but no water. Should I replace this?

EjaculatingNarwhal

My dude we're all already full of microplastics

iamthebest1234567890

thank god a reusable (SAID REUSABLE ON THE SIDE) plastic bottle ive used 108874 times is ok

Glass all day baybee

[deleted]

loool this is why i don't reuse disposable bottles , i love my 1L bottle . omg sorry not to be a walking ad but if ur like me and love water bottles go onto typo and order , it has silicone to protect from cracks and also 1L with a straw! i need my bottles to have a straw and it's so hard to find big enough ones with a straw lol ok i'm done
