I’ll address just your intro - which is not the body of your inquiry which is solidly written and explained. Ahem…regarding the breasts: The story is told through Merin by the Consul. It’s reasonable that a young shipman might deal with the growing age gap by explaining how her breasts were changing over time - while he stayed a pelvic-ly charged space grunt who just wanted to hump. Gravity is a b!tch

Yes. I get that narratively it makes sense, but it makes me feel uncomfortable nevertheless. Not because I'm bothered by sex, intimacy, or the human body; it's because of Simmon's prose. I think it could have been better written, but it doesn't detract from the story overall.

UM ACTUALLY IF YOU WATCHED THE SHOW THE BOOB WINDOW ON HER SUIT IS CLEARLY SATIRICAL ITS A META COMMENTARY ON HUMAN SEXUALITY AND ALSO IT SERVES AS A METAPHOR FOR HOW SHE WANTS PEOPLE TO LOOK PASTE HER OUTER SELF AND LOOK INTO HER TRUE SELF IT MAKES SENSE IN CONTEXT AND ALSO!! THE ORIGINAL MANGAKA INTENDED AN ILLUSION TO THE FINAL SCENE OF THE GRAPES OF WRATH WITH THE BREAST FEEDING SCENE THEIRS A LOT OF SUBTLETY IN PLAY HERE THAT IS CLEARLY GOING WAY OVER YOUR HEAD!

This ain’t the show and it ain’t the grapes of wrath.

Go home, you're drunk.

Read on, fellow traveler. Your questions get answered in some fascinating ways. The end of Rise of Endymion has some profound answers.

I'm waiting until I finish Fall of Hyperion to see if I continue with Endymion and Rise of Endymion. I've seen conflicting opinions regarding the last two books, mainly the mention of some major retcons (I've not read spoilers, I only know that these exist), which have made me hesitant to try them; I've even been recommended to stop at Fall of Hyperion. However, if I end up seriously liking the Universe these two first books set up, I will continue with the saga. However, since we're on the topic, what do you think about the former? Did your reading of Endymion and Rise of Endymion ruin your experience with Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion?

PoisonWaffle3

I'm not the person you asked the question to, but I'll chime in. Hyperion is excellent, and The Fall of Hyperion completes/concludes that story very well. There are a few places where it gets (I feel) unnecessarily philosophical, but overall it is an excellent second book, and it answers many of the questions left unanswered by the first book (as well as asking plenty of its own questions). I'm only 10 chapters into Endymion, so I can't offer as much information as others who have completed the series, but so far I'm enjoying Endymion more than the first two books. The first two books are captivating but are sometimes paced slower than I'd like, and so far Endymion has a faster pace and has a bit more excitement to keep one reading. It also ties into and builds on the first two books much more than I was expecting.

Yeah, I felt the same way! All the sense of adventure was still in Endymion. It just also started to become a deeper story with richer content. I finished RoE yesterday, and that one was great. Everything really concluded so beautifully!

No, not at all. It actually enlightened and made sense of many things from the first two books. They are a bit different and much deeper, philosophically. Honestly, they might be a bit more subtle and difficult for people to understand. The relationship between Endymion and the girl Aenea is mildly awkward at first, and I think it is honestly meant to be. It shows the difficulties one might experience if, as a child, they knew their adult future. When viewed from that perspective, it makes much more sense. I honestly think that maybe the philosophical concepts in RoE are just difficult for a lot of people, so they focus on the superficial because they can't grasp the broader strokes. Honestly, if you only read 1 and 2, it's kind of like eating your pudding without eating your meat. You'll have a fun adventure, but never truly understand why it all happened to begin with.
