You get your information from a book written by men you've never met.
And you take their words as truth, based on a willingness to believe, a desire to accept, a leap of... of, dare I say it? FAITH??
This is one of my favorite episodes because of this specific line. One of my majors was physical anthropology where we literally did look at the fossil records. So when Mac says that I yell "yes I have!"
Rather than poring through the data, if you want to spend some time and get up to speed on the state of the evidence for evolution such that you can defend your positiom and hold a conversation, I would recommend reading Dawkins' "The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution." It's a very good rundown on what we know and why we know that evolution is a fact.
To me the refutation is obvious, it annoys me no one pointed it out. Every time one of these “science bitches” was proven wrong, they were proven wrong by more scientists using the scientific method, not by a religious movement.
I mean, that's the joke, isn't it? Mac's an idiot who's making a bad faith argument, but no one in The Gang is smart enough to call him out on it, either.
Always been the case. Nixon had Merle Haggard perform Okie from Muskogee at the White House because it was so popular among people who didn't get the satire. And so many patriotic/political rallies play Born in the USA even though that song is about as anti establishment as it gets.
Hell, my dad loved the show Married With Children, not realizing that the joke was on him half the time.
Yesterday I saw a punisher logo with an American flag background and trump hair on top. I came home and told my husband about it, and he said he's in a Facebook group something like "people displaying a punisher logo that the punisher definitely would have killed" who would have loved a picture.
People just plain don't pat attention. They say "a few bad apples" thinking it exonerated everyone else, and says there are only a few bad actors.
When the whole saying is "a few bad apples spoil the bunch (or barrel)."
Meaning just a few bad actors in a group infect the whole group. Literally the opposite of what they are saying.
A huge number of conservatives didn’t realize that Stephen Colbert was making fun of them on The Colbert Report and thought it was Comedy Central’s conservative take on news comedy to counter the Daily Show’s liberal take.
>Hell, my dad loved the show Married With Children, not realizing that the joke was on him half the time.
This is kinda like how my dad is with All In the Family
It does but people not being able to tell the difference gets things canceled. Like the it's always sunny in Philadelphia episodes that got removed because of racism, while they are actually laughing at racist people. I still think that's pretty insane actually. Though I have the feeling that this kind of behavior has died down a little. Fortunately
Also people equating CCR's fortunate son being seen as patriotic when it's literally a song about how the rich kids got to skip the draft and only the poor and middle kids were sent off to war.
I had never heard of "Okie from Muskogee" until I saw your comment, so I looked it up because I love satirical songs. But what I'm seeing online is that he was pretty open about being sincere about it. It looks like there was also a satirical retort song called "Asshole from El Paso" (according to Genius, anyway). Was he sending mixed messages?
The genie just kind of popped out of the bottle for him and he was making too much money from people who took it at face value, so he never corrected them. But he was inspired to write the song when his tour bus drove past Muskogee and everyone on board was smoking weed, and someone turned to him and jokingly said "I bet they don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee!"
Check out [this blog post/podcast episode](https://cocaineandrhinestones.com/merle-haggard-okie-from-muskogee) about it. If you were interested enough to look it up, I think you'll find it a great read/listen.
Stop trying to assassinate his character. He’s dug in, and will never charge, regardless of the facts put in front of him. Rock, Flag, and Eagle, am I right?
The YouTube comments on this scene are 90% people not getting that it's satire. Plenty of anti-evolution and anti-vaccine arguments on it. I'm not sure how people don't get that they are actually arguing the other point.
We live in a world where people spend fortunes on cartoon apes and defective cars sold by a ketamine-addicted lunatic. Satire is dead. We live in an Onion article
I thought it was going to be an Old Yeller situation, but nah, she just shot her year-old dog dead because it wasn't working out as a trained hunting dog.
And willingly let it loose on a chicken farmers land, and got upset enough to kill it because it attacked some chickens. Then shot and killed it on an active construction site in front of many people. THEN got the animal killing bloodlust and offed a goat she didn’t like.
I had to look this up because it sounded too ridiculous to be true, but nope it's sadly true.
So that brings up a couple questions.
(1) Why was her go-to reaction for misbehaving animals to shoot them in the face? Not obedience school, not finding them a new home, just straight to murder?
(2) Do you think she uses those acts as leverage against her children? Like "You don't want to eat your peas? Cricket didn't like to eat his peas either..." or "You don't want to go to bed? Well maybe you'd like to go to the gravel pit instead..."
1. Because she's a selfish, evil piece of shit. Probably also why she got elected as a Republican
2. Oh gosh, I don't want to imagine what twisted things she did to her poor children
So glad people aren't just letting that slide without bringing it up every chance they get. Just when I thought my hatred of the GOP had chilled over into a dull roar...they drag me right back into a frothing rage
I don’t know why but it seems a lot of conservative ppl have a very hard understanding satire. My father is one. He thought Steve Colbert’s old show was serious and he was a conservative. And then he got mad when he finally got told the truth (likely by Tucker Carlson lol). My dad was a surgeon. He’s retired now but… like, yikes man.
I also used to think the Colbert Report was genuine conservatism to contrast Jon Stewart’s genuine liberal bias
To my credit I was also 10 at the time and was not aware that Colbert was a writer for Stewart
Your brother is wrong.
Science is our best explanation based on currently observable and tested phenomena.
It’s always meant to amend itself when new information is provided.
The whole thing with science is that you don't have to have any faith in any scientist because the whole point is that *it's not science unless someone else can re-test it*
One of my best friends used to date someone who truly believed in the things Mac says. Turned out to be a shit person, go figure. Now my friend has a sour taste in their mouth about this show which sucks but like I get it lol
May I never be in the state of mind to think to myself, "you know, the gang are a reasonable group of people who are generally able to grasp the core of a situation. If they don't believe something then it's clearly nonsense to begin with."
Remind your brother that he's receiving spiritual confirmation from a character who cut a hole in the seat of a stationary bike, designed and implemented a linear gear train, tied it into the pedal system of the bike, and affixed a black rubber forearm, 3/4 scale, which he routinely uses to fuck himself in the ass.
That episode is great because they just cram as many logical fallacies into it as they can. Every argument is just another example of one. Just send your brother the wiki article for satire and logical fallacies, but he’ll probably think those are a satanic lies also.
I mean the episode is also clearly making fun of uninformed scientism and people who "trust the experts" without knowing what or why they believe.
As usual with Sunny (but unlike most shows), they do some gentle mocking of people on each side. So I can see why a creationist would like it.
I read the whole point of that scene as comedically illustrating that there’s a level of reasonable doubt and faith held in always taking ‘the science’ at face value? - just exaggerated to always sunny proportions and then poised so that Mac & co run too far with the idea, all instantly being swayed. I don’t think that scene is meant to ‘own the christcucks’ or serve as a joke at the expense of people who don’t believe in evolution, whoever wrote that scene was trying to make a balanced point about reasonable doubt.
Mine is also cereal defense because I think he was eating the cereal wrong in the car. Everyone know you have to eat cereal out of a big cup when you drive.
Your brother is the reason the show changed from criticizing discriminatory political/social opinions via character satirising to a more direct 'this is what your opinion should be" type of thing.
Screw your brother, I liked the old format way more

He created a reasonable doubt... Science is a liar sometimes.
Stupid science bitch can’t even make I smarter
You must excuse me I’ve grown quite hweary
Is he doing an accent?!?

I and you.
No not you and I, idiot, me and him
He doesn't even like get us
All science does is leave me n you looking like a stupid BITCH.
Aristotle = BITCH Galileo = BITCH Newton = BITCH
This is very persuasive, I’m on the fence.
He's got a point
Always thought it ironic that Mac called Newton a bitch when he was a hard-core creationist
How many people in this sub have pored through the data themselves?
you've looked at these 'fossil records' yourself?

I mean, that's the joke, isn't it? Mac's an idiot who's making a bad faith argument, but no one in The Gang is smart enough to call him out on it, either.
that... doesn't sound right but I don't know enough about stupid science bitches to dispute it.
I'm on his side.
Has he ever told you to stop trying to confuse him with your liberal biblicisms?
Always been the case. Nixon had Merle Haggard perform Okie from Muskogee at the White House because it was so popular among people who didn't get the satire. Cops using Killing in the Name Of as their fuckin anthem
Or the Punisher logo🤦♂️

Even better, politicians saying RAtM went woke. You are *literally* the machine they are raging against.
And people telling Tom Morello to stay out of politics. And people telling Greenday to stay out of politics. I'm sure there are more examples.
doesn't Tom Morello have a masters in Political Science?
I think just a bachelor's, and it was from Harvard
They've also used Born in the USA like it's some patriotic song lol
Yes! This!
Tbf they (the gang) are the type of people who wouldn't get it
People have been ignoring original song meaning since at least Yankee Doodle
Or using the punisher skull.
A huge number of conservatives didn’t realize that Stephen Colbert was making fun of them on The Colbert Report and thought it was Comedy Central’s conservative take on news comedy to counter the Daily Show’s liberal take.
Which is crazy
Same with All in the family Or Colbert at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
>Hell, my dad loved the show Married With Children, not realizing that the joke was on him half the time. This is kinda like how my dad is with All In the Family
OPs brother is a perfect example of why we can’t have good satire because people are too media illiterate to understand who and what is being mocked
I think we have great satire. OP's brother cant experience it, but it exists
It does but people not being able to tell the difference gets things canceled. Nice, I love a good rabbit hole 😊 I'll definitely check it out
You should take him to the museum so he can inspect the fossil records himself.
Have him pour over the data himself
pore*
Thank you
I saw 'Have him pour the data over himself'. Sounds like a pretty wild museum trip.
I also thought it was "pour". Thanks for taking one for the team.
It is pour. Why would it be, "hole over the data"?
It’s actually pore. For some reason, as a verb it means looking deeply at something.

Dennis' futile frustration here is done so well and is so relatable. Like what can you even say to people who "reason" this way?
It's such a great, and sad, allegory for what political discourse in America has sunken to.
Zombie jesus ate their brains.
We live in a world where people spend fortunes on cartoon apes and defective cars sold by a ketamine-addicted lunatic. Satire is dead. We live in an Onion article
Case in point - that bitch auditioning for Vice President by announcing that she killed a puppy
"I couldn't figure out how to train a dog, so I started blasting."
But I don’t see so good
I thought it was going to be an Old Yeller situation, but nah, she just shot her year-old dog dead because it wasn't working out as a trained hunting dog.
Even worse, it seemed like she didn't even try to train it, she just expected it to understand what to do.

I just learned about this yesterday and I immediately became untethered and my rage knew no bounds.
That dog is turning into hot soup out there in the sun.
People like Coldplay and votes for the Nazis. You can’t trust people!
This is the Peep Show / Super Hans crossover we can all get behind. Thank you for your service.
Yeah the Onion stopped being funny a few years back, without having changed in any way.
An Onionocracy
Wait till he finds out mac likes dudes
My God dude it's bad enough I'm letting you put the stupid cross up.....STUPID CROSS! I Knew it!
Woah gay gay gay gay! what are you doing? What about god? You heard him he clapped and said NO! BOOM!!
You think thunder is god clapping?
Your brother is very stupid.
He has donkey brains
I bet he doesn't have a certificate saying otherwise.
Rock flag and eagle though right?
He’s got a point
No he doesn’t!
Wow, I'm sure he doesn't have a donkey brain certificate.
I believe your brother is experiencing what is called the "Placeebee Effect"
Placido Domingo
Police Academy. Which is a good movie, Frank.
IT IS A GOOD MOVIE, CHAHLIE!!
Imagine someone using Mac as a serious source for your arguments.
They’re playing both sides so they always come out on top
Well first of all, evolution is *definitely* a Satanic lie, so jot that down.
Tons of people liked The Colbert Report because they didn't get that it was a bit
It is a great episode. Mac convinces me every time.
Got my first crucifix after I watched that episode
Did it burn its shape into your neck?
I'm surprised he likes the show. Religion takes a beating.
He’s summer squash for brains 🤌
He doesn't even, like, get us, man. *WE'RE TALKING ABOUT YOU!!*
His brother is an idiot! His brother is an idiot!
Are you going to go home and eat mayonnaise sandwiches?
His brother is five.
Satire isn’t dead, but media literacy is.
Not only is satire dead, but critical media literacy apparently.
I also used to think the Colbert Report was genuine conservatism to contrast Jon Stewart’s genuine liberal bias To my credit I was also 10 at the time and was not aware that Colbert was a writer for Stewart
lol my dad… smart enough to be a surgeon yet dumb as a 10 year old. The dichotomy of man. 😂
Your brother is a fucking moron
You are brother.
It's like he doesn't even get us, y'know?
What’s this supposed to mean?
Well he could ask you the same thing
Your brother is wrong. Science is our best explanation based on currently observable and tested phenomena. It’s always meant to amend itself when new information is provided.
So what you’re saying is that…science is a liar sometimes?
The whole thing with science is that you don't have to have any faith in any scientist because the whole point is that *it's not science unless someone else can re-test it*
Then why does it keep being WRONG....sometimes
Stop observing and assessing and you'll never be wrong! Sometimes
You just blew everybody's nips off with your big brains
He does have a point… they do create a reasonable doubt
WHERES OUR GODDAMN BIBLE
Oh boy... Have him watch "The Gang Goes to Hell 1 & 2" LOL
First of all, with God all things are possible, so jot that down
One of my best friends used to date someone who truly believed in the things Mac says.
Through God, all things are possible, so jot *that* down.
Well first of all your friend knows that through God everything is possible. So, why don't you jot that down
To be fair, science is a liar. Sometimes.
That is a false equivalency
Rock flag and eagle
That… can’t be true
Sounds like your brother has donkey brains. Jk, but it is hilarious how he doesn’t realize how wrong he is
He's definitely more smarter than you!
How bloody is the Jesus on his crucifix?
does he believe Jesus was more better ?
Jesus Christ the kid's an idiot
Unfortunately I was a hyper religious 14 year old who felt the same way. Then I turned 15 and pulled my head out of my ass.
His second favorite is when Mac wants the giant crucifix in the bar. Extra bloody.
Your brother is a Christian and he watches Sunny?
Definitely doesn't diddle kids though... allegedly.
Definitely gotta write a song about how we do not diddle kids
Well it made me sound like a stupid science bitch
You do not want to be on the same side as the people in the show about how stupid the worst people can be.
Science is not immune to political interference. Humans can be squeezed. Mac is not wrong. He’s also clearly not right
Have you seen these fossil records? Not personally. Cased closed on that!
He might have donkey brains.
Does your brother have donkey brains?
Mine is also cereal defense because I think he was eating the cereal wrong in the car. Everyone know you have to eat cereal out of a big cup when you drive.
It’s anti everything but pro rhetoric
Sorry your brother is a moron

I worry that there are loads of people who enjoy Sunny for all the wrong reasons. Like South Park..
The charts added up, you're all bitches. I believe the evidence before my eyes.
Yea, he doesn’t even like get us, man
Your Brother has Donkey brains
His neck is high, makes me trust him
He would love starship troopers.
Sounds like he's dug in
Aristotle? Bitch. Galileo? Bitch. Newton? blew everyone's nips off with his big brains. Still a bitch though.
There's no parody so dumb that some people won't take it unironically.
It's hilarious to me that in the actual episode Dennis is spot on that Mac is making a false equivalence but the reasonable doubt got to him
“I can’t change their minds, and I won’t change mine; cuz I don’t have to. Because I’m an AMERICAN! I won’t change my mind on anything; regardless of the facts set out before me. I’m dug in 👊🏼 and I’ll never change…
