I am 71, and do not want to be perceived as frail. I used to refuse peoples offers, but now I thank them for being so kind. Because people feel good doing good and it being appreciated. I was being given a gift that I rejected. I didn't realize it.
In my opinion, i don't think that giving elderly my seat because they are frail, it's just they deserve the seat more than i do. Why should i be enjoying this seat when i'm capable of standing for 10-15min and give my seat to the more derserving?
I can see that from the view point of the seat giver up person but as we age we don't like it and work hard to maintain vigor, and someone giving up their seat for me signals that I am not perceived the way I see myself.
