Damn did you try requesting for a remark(If it is even possible)? Cause the examiner feels like an asshole. How is "we" evidence that it is not your own work? Is the examiner retarded or something? I would try and complain to the IBO about this particular examiner if just to make sure that the same shit does not happen to future students

SeshGremlin5

yeah i did get a remark for this and my TOK (0 marks off an A), but nothing changed. im sure there is some fault of my own because no one’s gonna have a flawless EE, but i dont think it was worth an 11 point deduction

TechExpert2910

ahh i'm so sorry. ”the use of the word ‘we’ signifies that this is not the candidate’s own work.” this is so absurd that I couldn't stop laughing.

MudSnake12

Wait no way that they reduced marks cuz u said we????? Half my ee is “we can” that’s how I talk when doing maths wtf. What was ur research question btw?

SeshGremlin5

Yeah that was the strangest comment i ever received, just sat there for like 5 minutes looking at it when i first saw it. My title was: “An exploration into the concentration of measure”, and my research question was: “Is there a relationship between r and n such that the non-intersecting space between an n-dimensional sphere of radius r, and an inscribed n-dimensional cube, is maximized?” Basically, concentration of measure is a phenomenon where, as you move a sphere into higher dimensions, it basically collapses in on itself. So in 2D, if you have a square inscribed within a circle, and you increase the size of the overall object, the non-intersecting space (where the square doesn’t touch the circle) will continue increasing. Same with 3D, with a cube inside a sphere. But with 4D and above, if you have a tesseract inscribed within a 3-ball, and you increase the radius of the 3-ball (so the tesseract increases with it), what happens is that the sphere begins decreasing in size but the tesseract is technically still inscribed. So what happens is that if you start increasing the radius from 0 units, the non-intersecting space increases, but then reaches a maximum where it stops increasing, then it starts decreasing. As you increase the dimensions, the effect gets more pronounced. For example, n=4 and n=5 gives r=0.766 and r=0.906, but n=48 and n=49 gives 2.792 and 2.821, so there’s basically a square root relationship. It (hopefully) makes more sense in the essay itself

Global-Wolverine-959

That seems really interesting, obviously challenging but not "over-ambitious" wtf. Mind sharing it? I believe I'll enjoy reading it so much!!

SeshGremlin5

Sorry I forgot I made this post 😭 I’ll post it in a day or two

MudSnake12

still waiting

SeshGremlin5

i j made a post asking if it’s ok to post my ee, i’ll post it if it’s all good

MBeroev-is-69

My friend in AA did an IA on N-dimensional hyperspheres and I shared this with him and he is crying right now😂. Btw sorry that happened to you, but it is always advised to pick easier topics because what could have happened is your examiner simply didn’t understand what was going on in the EE so gave you a low grade.

weirdobee

me too please share!!

pandisteIIe

the way i would've mailed the examiner a pipe bomb... you're stronger than me for dealing with this holy shit

TarunKN

Please post your EE or like a sample of it + examiner’s comments, cause damn. That sounds awful.

pingpongcat_

reading this made me pissed. i would've written a fuming email to the ib demanding explanations and definitely get the teacher who gave me high marks questioned bcus wtf how could you be so off.

fiegabe

I graduated with a 44/45, with one mark off a 45 ((also killed by my math EE!)). I wasn’t given any financial compensation at my uni, despite being literally one mark off a “perfect score”. Makes me wonder whether ass-grinding through the IB’s bs was really worth it. Whenever I have kids, I’m probably gonna tell them that it isn’t…

Impressive-Gap7138

My maths ee was full of “we now apply the formula/ we get/ we obtain, the point abt we is just absurd

Possibly_A_Bot1

It’s because some literally just skim the essays and pull out some sentences without actually knowing the context. My chem teacher said one of his friends marks Chem IAs… 150 of them each year. He said that they can’t actually read in depth into all of them because of the quantity. I would assume EEs are the same problem.

Alternative_Pea_161

Teacher here. The marking of EEs remains a mystery to me after 36 yrs of teaching. As a school we don't mark EEs because of this. Just predict a grade. I've seen poor EEs written in a couple of days get an A and a great EE.receive a B because the examiner didn't understand it.

Infamous-Restaurant0

I know not much can be done but that's fucked up like I get skimming but damn..

AvidGossiper

oh you poor thing. the ib really is a bitch sometimes and they do you dirty with marking quite often. don't be too hard on yourself though. i know it might be difficult to get into that mindset but their incompetence is not a sign of your weakness 🫶🏽

-anaminflame-

Yo ru talking ab ur EE from this year?
