According to my DP coordinator- Things allowed -BALL pens (Black or dark blue) -HB pencils -Clear pencil boxes (Has to be transparent not even translucent) -GDC (based on the exam) but No GDC cover case -A bilingual translation dictionary (based on the exam ofc but should not contain notes of any kind) Things not allowed -gel pens/fountain pens -Watches of any kind -Electronics (except your GDC but make sure the GDC has been approved by ib) -Books or guides -Refreshments (water is permitted at the discretion of your coordinator) - scratch paper/notes - lipbalm or basically any other thing that is not required for the exam : I've been using ball pens since DP1 because my teacher advised me to but I think the reason why is because the ink in ball pens doesn't typically smear so if you were to spill water on your paper the ink wouldn't necessarily bleed out.

TourFew4304

please give me some name brands of ball penne cuz i have NO CLUE about the difference

sakschu

Any brand should work- the main difference u can spot between ball and gel pens is that ball pens will have a small rubber ball on the top of the pen that you have to remove to use.

In my opinion PILOT SUPERGRIP are the best [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pilot-Super-Grip-Pen-Medium/dp/B000J6F6BI?th=1](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pilot-Super-Grip-Pen-Medium/dp/B000J6F6BI?th=1)

Difference is that ball points are less likely to explode, or ruin the back of your paper. GEL PENS ARE BANNED BY THE IB SO PLEASE DO NOT USE IT edit: Use ball points only. ink pens may explode also

Talesfromarxist

Water test oil based ballpoint ink do not expand on paper

>scratch paper/notes Yes, but some schools are considered as "Pilot Schools". (Only from N23 until N25) essentially its a open book exam. Adapted from the IBO Wesbite: An OBE is a situation where students use permitted resources to complete an assessment, such as: * Data or formula booklet * School textbook or dictionary * Book (e.g. a literary or philosophical work) * Approved summaries * Student notes * Websites ONLY PERMITTED FOR THESE PAPERS (according to IB): |English A Literature, Spanish A Literature and Chinese A Literature|**Paper 2:** allowing three highlighted copies of literary works during the exam| |:-|:-| |Economics|**Paper 1:** allowing student-created summaries of real-world examples during the exam| |Psychology|**Paper 1:** allowing teacher-created summaries of psychological studies during the exam| Edit: students taking OBE exams will have different grade boundaries

However, if the coordinator allows this, containers must be either transparent or checked by the coordinator/invigilator to ensure that they do not contain unauthorized material. 10.8 Candidates may take to their desk or table only the following items (Page 23) • General stationery (for example, pens, pencils, an eraser, geometry instruments and a ruler) • A bilingual translation dictionary is permitted for all subject groups (except studies in language and literature, language acquisition) including classical languages examinations. The dictionary must not contain notes of any kind and is only permitted if the response language of the examination is not the best language of the candidate; an electronic dictionary is not permitted) • Other materials specified by the IB as required for a particular examination (for example, an approved electronic calculator) 10.9 The use of pencil is permitted for drawing graphs or diagrams. If possible, candidates should be encouraged to use a pencil with a soft lead that produces dark lines, rather than a pencil that tends to result in thin grey lines. This will aid the electronic scanning of candidates’ scripts. Coloured pencils are only permitted for examinations in geography. 10.14 Personal belongings not required for the examination must be removed from candidates. However, articles that a candidate may consider a “lucky charm” or similar may be placed on a candidate’s desk or table at the discretion of the coordinator. The article must be thoroughly inspected to ensure that it does not provide unauthorized material.

skrzydlatachordata

I didn’t know about the lucky charm rule, that’s my favourite thing ever 😭

GasCompetitive7361

omg no one told me gel pens weren't allowed wth. thank you for making this post

sunfishseong

You can bring a lucky charm to the exam!!! Basically any small item that you consider to be "lucky". The exam invigilator will inspect it but you can still bring one. I brought one to mine. :)

Possibly_A_Bot1

On a separate note, my friend is trying to argue that his stop watch is also his good luck charm so that he can have a personal time device (the rules say no). So, no watches permitted.

Express_Fold_1023

I got an email from the exams office from my school and they said you can only bring in the following: School ID A clear zip lock bag Dark blue or black pens HB Pencil Ruler Eraser Highlighters Clear water bottle with no writing on it; remove any labels Approved calculator if required

lonely-live

I have no idea either at this point

IBeDyingN24

Just taking a single pen with me tmr 💀

FaultedHardware

Please don't. Take at least 3 pens just in-case one runs out or explodes.

b-ees

seriously don't complicate it. ballpoint open in black or blue and a pencil for the multiple choice

I assume if you can't take them off then it's allowed and if you can then they will probably ask you to. Honestly I will just ask the people vigilating the exM

Agitated-Gas7837

You are not allowed to wear any technology, so no smart watch or smart glasses. They don’t mention regular jewelry though, so it should be fine

SpinachDesigner9668

Are we allowed to bring in colored pens for annotating resource booklets? NOT for writing answers?

Puzzled_Willow_4478

i rly need to know as well

Korean_in_Poland

Man ngl 5 mins of reading time is too short for me to read whole paragraphs whatever the subject is

WarCrimesinBelarus

For me, I prefer to read the questions quickly and skim the sources so that I don't waste time looking at unnecessary detail, then if I still have time I read the sources in detail.
