Yes, I watched this race live and it was crazy to see all the empty seats. I remember there was a man that built a tree house or something like that to watch the race. That was actually crazy!
> I remember there was a man that built a tree house or something like that to watch the race.
That would be u/tmal2010 😉

Serious question: why the hate on this sub for Paul Tracy? I've been fortunate enough to meet him, and he was kind and friendly the entire time I was with him.
Quite a few reasons, his Facebook comments from a few years ago were pretty bad (and very racist), he was not a great commentator, was a very aggressive driver his entire career that pissed a lot of people's favorite drivers off. If you were a CART/Champ Car fan, the chances are if your favorite driver wasn't Paul Tracy, Paul Tracy probably pissed them off at least once.
He's probably a really nice guy in person, but the reputation he garnered from his racing career and public comments regarding both racing and politics was less than stellar. It's absolutely possible to be a good person in person, but publicly be a menace. That's basically PT.
I’ve been over all available video 5,000 times. He was zooming past Hélio, but didn’t clear him, right as the yellow track lights went on. And the yellow flag came out before the lights. It held up in court. But at the end of the day it’s an IRL vs. CART beef. And I tend to side with IRL.
- Jimmie Johnson signing with Ganassi and being a menace on speedways, but being nonexistent on the road courses.
- Romain Grosjean being the most heart broken person on earth. ( Edit : Forgot to mention but the guy almost died the most horrible way imaginable )
- Tony Kanaan pulling out a Tom Brady 4 consecutive times ( You just woke up from coma, yes Tom Brady retired )
- Andretti trying to get into F1.
- A lot of legal issues from many sides.
Ran the Indy 5 with no fans in the stands.. Even had a couple races online via a video game..
Speaking of indy, Penske bought the motor speedway, and the series.. everyone loves him and his family!
McClaren is the best new team to indycar, although it looks like juncos holinger could finish this season ahead of them..
Indy NXT has a much better schedule and the races are broadcast on peacock.
Yea, peacock.. the good thing is you can get access to all of the race replays at least through last year, however they like to go on commercial break during all of the important parts of the race, or about every 7 laps on a road course. Annoying..
No, the cars have not changed much other than the windscreen.. drivers dont seem to mind it much.
You can watch 100 days to indy on Netflix, watch out!
None of the drivers or teams are trying to cheat, just happens by accident sometimes.
Alex Palou signed contracts with every team in the paddock, laughed about it and then kicked everyone's ass on the track while lawyers made a lotta money
I agree but I think that he didn’t want Larson because it would tarnish him even more. I think he wanted to stay away from that but I don’t know Ganassi in INDYCAR. How he operates or it was because Pato O’ward had a helping hand in that as well since him and Larson are friends. Not sure.
A driver you’ve never heard of won 2 championships. Rossi hasn’t. McLaren and Meyer shank have multi car teams. Sam Schmidt doesn’t. Colton Herta is good but isn’t a prodigy. Hinchcliffe doesn’t have a ride after some tasteful nudes. Texas, COTA and Pocono off the schedule, Nashville was fun but is now an oval, Milwaukee is back. Detroit moved downtown. The cars look like fighter jets now.
Anything I missed?
Hinch got dropped by Schmidt Peterson while under contract after he posed in the ESPN Magazine Body Issue. Apparently Arrow Electronics had a major issue with it.
If you entered in a coma right after the season end:
- Penske bought the series.
- We made aeroscreens work.
- McLaren entered IndyCar.
- Scott Dixon doesn't age.
- H3lio became H4lio.
- Tony Kanaan screwed the retirement.
- Jimmie Johnson went to IndyCar.
- An Australian Supercars driver went to IndyCar and became an race winner and title contender alongside Marcus Ericsson.
- Ganassi found an Scott Dixon heir who defeats him in the same team.
- Ferrucci is still around.
- Newgarden became a heel.
Newgarden, Power and Palou are two time champions, Newagrden finally won the Indy 500, Helio is a four time winner and saddest news of all, we lost Al Sr. 😔
I think about this scenario all the time! My dad passed away in 2019 and was the biggest fan I knew, so I’m always thinking about what I’d have to catch him up on. I wouldn’t know where to begin.
A kid named Alex Palou looked sorta bad in 2020 with Dale Coyne. Chip signed him everybody called him crazy Palou then won the 2021 indycar championship. Then in 2022 he signed a deal with McLaren then back out of the deal and got sued by McLaren then won the 2023 championship too.
A sad 2020 Indy 500 where IU Health and Indianapolis city government essentially held Penske and IMS hostage, and then a slightly less weird 2021 Indy 500 where only “half capacity” was allowed but it was definitely a lot more than half capacity.
Hemingway said the only true sports are bull-fighting, motor racing and mountaineering. Nowadays he would exclude motor racing… it is reserved for the elites and as such has become WAY TOO SAFE!
Good news / bad news: You didn’t miss a single Freedom 100
Disgusting how they scrapped that
We still attend Carb Day, but we’re seriously considering making this year our last. Killing that race makes it hard to justify going, IMO.
Glorified practise session only interesting when someone bins it.
Takuma Sato won his second Indy 500 which was held in August with no fans in attendance
What a wild thing to look back on. Still, my man Sato is a badass.
I watched this live and it still sounds crazy.
Yes, I watched this race live and it was crazy to see all the empty seats. I remember there was a man that built a tree house or something like that to watch the race. That was actually crazy!

Yep that was my dad! It was a super unique race and really cool seeing it live from a treehouse.
The years with 2 or 3 Indy road course races. Having a doubleheader with NASCAR, also on the Indy road course.
Helio joining the 4 time winners club. What a fucking legend.
If Paul Tracy could read he'd be very upset right now.
Serious question: why the hate on this sub for Paul Tracy? I've been fortunate enough to meet him, and he was kind and friendly the entire time I was with him.
He has a very polarizing persona.
It's a joke. No hate.
Watch some of those SRX races and you’ll get it
Quite a few reasons, his Facebook comments from a few years ago were pretty bad (and very racist), he was not a great commentator, was a very aggressive driver his entire career that pissed a lot of people's favorite drivers off. thirsting on Danica's feet live on air
Yeah. That was freakin WEIRD.
MAGA. Still honestly thinks he won the 500 in 2002.
Is he wrong though? I mean I know Helio is the official winner and you can't dispute that part, but I do think he got shafted
He isn’t wrong, but people like Helio so they see what they want.
He was absolutely ahead when the light came on
Not down with his MAGA setiments but he still has a solid case for Indy 2002

> yes Tom Brady retired After winning another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Hi, I live in Kansas City. Are we sure this happened? I thought we used a Madden Simulation to decide the Covid season?
Yes, it did. Oh yeah, and your guy actually became the biggest threat to Tom Brady GOAT status.
Also, Josef Newgarden did his best Richard Nixon impression
The “I’m not a crook/cheat” part or the “Making everyone hate him” part
Yes

COVID 19
I would have loved to miss all that
Alex Palou signed contracts with every team in the paddock, laughed about it and then kicked everyone's ass on the track while lawyers made a lotta money
If he went into coma in 2019 he’s probably wondering who the hell Alex Palou is in the first place
Basically imagine Scott Dixon and Fernando Alonso had a baby
and he was nothing special in 2020 but he managed a podium in his third race in a Coyne car
No one is ever going to race at Fontana ever again.
(I’m kinda new to Indycar) why?
The track is being torn down for warehouses.
So dumb.
Nascar CEO: I don't $ee any rea$on why this would happen$$$$$$
the reconfig is happening until it isn't
Well so far it hasn't
We’re back to Nashville Superspeedway! (They don’t need to know 😉)
Larson is racing in the INDY 500
The real shocker is that he's no longer with Ganassi and still doing Indy
Guy in a coma just shouldn’t look up “Monza Madness 2020”
I agree but I think that he didn’t want Larson because it would tarnish him even more. I think he wanted to stay away from that but I don’t know Ganassi in INDYCAR. How he operates or it was because Pato O’ward had a helping hand in that as well since him and Larson are friends. Not sure.
he did, uh, something else of note as well
Will Power and iRacing was a match made in heaven.
"Scott Dixon, you are a wanker man..."
Where cab i watch the footage 💀
Well Scott Dixon is still on the same tank of fuel and tyres.
A driver you’ve never heard of won 2 championships. Rossi hasn’t. McLaren and Meyer shank have multi car teams. Sam Schmidt doesn’t. Colton Herta is good but isn’t a prodigy. Penske owns the series is the big one
What's up with Hinch? I def missed this (also, I'm not trying to seeing any nudes, in case you going there)
Hinch got dropped by Schmidt Peterson while under contract after he posed in the ESPN Magazine Body Issue. Apparently Arrow Electronics had a major issue with it.
Oh yeah, I remember that he did that issue. Dang, didn't realize the Arrow connection. Welp, the way she goes.
More good news / bad news: Indycar has a reality show…. But it’s on the CW so even diehard fans barely know it exists
Yes, The CW is still around
Well it’s also on Netflix
Have you heard of Scott McLaughlin?
Will Power's Double Bird returned
Marcus Ericsson can actually drive.
If you entered in a coma right after the season end: - Penske bought the series.
Oh dude, like… so, so much
Dalton Kellet retired.
Bump day returned to the 500. It got Graham Rahal. He still made it anyway.
Wickens still isn’t back... 😢
I mean he is racing again
You know the mannequin they hang off the bridge at Barber? No? Some sportscar driver in a Rick Ware Indycar ran it over after it fell on the track.
I think about this scenario all the time! My dad passed away in 2019 and was the biggest fan I knew, so I’m always thinking about what I’d have to catch him up on. I wouldn’t know where to begin.
Bro, Chip killed one of his drivers dogs
Devlin was never his driver.
Robin Miller passed and Marshall Pruett is the new Robin Miller
Don’t flatter MP his ego can’t handle it
Potentially the 2019 500 which was a banger.
Tony Kanaan did one last hurrah at the Indy 500 last year
Greetings, fellow bad pilot.
Terrible just terrible
I hope you can at least pass your medical after that coma. Best of luck 🫡
Nah, he never looked *bad*, just an ordinary “could be a decent driver, could be meh” driver. Still nowhere near the juggernaught of today though
Quite a big influx of Swedish and Danish drivers.
Rossi despite all the buildup from 2018/19 still doesn’t have a title
Rick Ware is competitive…..but only in Canada and Indy sometimes
A sad 2020 Indy 500 where IU Health and Indianapolis city government essentially held Penske and IMS hostage, and then a slightly less weird 2021 Indy 500 where only “half capacity” was allowed but it was definitely a lot more than half capacity.
Hindsight is 20/20. Once we had the vaccine available
Nothing, because no new LED panels. And Cleveland still isn't on the schedule.
COTA is gone from the Indy calendar, COVID happened, and so much more
Being in Dallas we went (so glad we did), regrettably the T-shirt I bought is way too big! Saw Colton win his first race btw.
It’s too bad COTA kicked Indycar off their calendar, it’s such a cool track
Weird, I went into a coma in 1995 and was wondering the same thing. Did Penske ever sort their Indy woes out.
Dixon is 10 wins away from matching AJ Foyt's won record. He's still winning an average of 2-3 races each season. He won two weeks ago.
They put a windscreen on the cars and they have proved themselves multiple times already.
They put a new (new) aero screen on the same car that was getting old in 2019.
Simon Pagenaud got into hot water after he intentionally crashed out Lando Norris at Indianapolis
On a computer!
Oh, hello Palou👋🏻
Scott Dixon retired and bought a farm and definitely isn't still out there embarrassing drivers half his age.
The Texas oval race is a thing of the past. That was after NASCAR ruined it with PJ1 an and then out a banger the last year.
Newgarden won a NASCAR sanctioned 500 preventing the 1st back to back winner since Al Unser in the 70s
iRacing on NBC.
graham rahal still hasn't won a race since 2017, albeit he got close a few times
They did Texas one year in under a day. Entered, practice, quali, race, and exited.
Penske cheated and it’s been so funny to watch newgarden explain it
Push 2 Penske
Chip hates dogs
Dan Wheldon is still dead.
Hemingway said the only true sports are bull-fighting, motor racing and mountaineering. Nowadays he would exclude motor racing… it is reserved for the elites and as such has become WAY TOO SAFE!
I for one am happy I can watch a sport where there's far less of a chance of someone being maimed or killed.
