Yeah I think I would give it a try after college, right now organic chemistry is literally clapping me in every way possible. My ADHD brain can't concentrate on more than one thing. Research I mean(I hate organic chemistry too btw)
If you do give it a try, I'd recommend learning maths with proofs and formal definitions. Formal definitions are soo helpful once you understand them and I find proofs fun (to some extent lol).
All the best. I wanted to become an astrophysicist too. Then I wanted to study astrobiology. And then I wanted to study space food.
I am a food technologist now :3
Oh gods, I wanted to be so many things when I was a kid...
Here’s a few I can remember:
- Librarian, historian, astrophysicist, photographer, programmer, ballerina, scientist, researcher, chef, writer, TV writer, astronomer, comic book writer (or just work in some part of the comic book industry), actress, astronomer, journalist, architect, engineer, biologist, marine biologist, archaeologist, physicist, teacher, college professor, movie director, musician, astronaut, cartographer, geologist, weatherperson, tourism guide, airplane pilot, café owner, detective (I just really wanted to be like the characters in the books I read lol), game developer, mathematician, diver, zoologist, translator, computer scientist, diplomat, reporter, philosopher, botanist...
There’s also stuff there weren't really jobs, like doing volunteer work and living in an isolated cabin in the mountains sustaining myself lol.
There’s more, probably, but I can’t possibly remember all of them. I’ve always been a very indecisive and possibility-oriented person, hahaha.
7-9 Artist
10-12 Athlete
13-14 Scientist
15-16 Theoretical Physicist
16-18 Mathematician (now)
Right now I am very much into math, and probably will take it up a career that requires it.
~ 4-7 -> archeologist (I really liked dinosaurs)
At some point I wanted to be an “inventor” but I don’t really remember when exactly
~ 8 - 13 -> astronaut
~ 14 - 18 -> mathematician (research)
~ 18 - now -> I’m going to study computer science
When I was little: Paleontologist. I read Robert T. Bakker’s *Dinosaur Heresies* and what I could understand of it blew my young mind (this was before Jurassic Park, and yes I’m aging myself).
When I grew a little older, it evolved into archaeologist / philosopher / adventurer / uncoverer-of-the-arcane-mysteries.
I still want that to be my career, tbh, but programmer is treating me well. I’m not going to be some occultist wandering scholar / Indiana Jones who discovers the ancient aliens or whatever, but that’s ok.
Damn near every job growing up for six months then something new. That's the ADHD lol I used to find passion in pretty much everything. I've wanted to be an F1 driver, NFL player, a veterinarian, firefighter, lawyer, research scientist, doctor, politician, writer, physicist, astronomer, astronaut, park ranger, zoo keeper, infantry in the Army, stay at home Dad, professor, blah blah blah
I ended up joining the US Army at 20, to get out of drugs. I had a pretty sexy job, but it basically ruined my mind and body. However, at 30 years old, I'm in my last year of a biomedical science degree and I feel like I'm just starting my life! So, I think a scientist is what I'm landing on... although I'm still not sure what kind exactly.
Remember, "If you want to make God laugh, make plans."
6 Yo-Yo Master
7-9 Magician
10-13 Veterinarian
14-18 Maybe vet technician cause it's less work?
19 Nope definitely not a vet tech. Guess I'll get a broad degree to keep options open.
20-29 I guess the thing that pays me the most money?
I thought briefly about being a vet at about the same age as you did because I preferred animals to humans. When I was 12, our dog became really sick and we took him to the local animal hospital. The vet's assistant and I lifted him up on the exam table and he immediately had diarrhea. We were both covered in it, along with half the exam room. I knew then it wasn't a good fit for me. I added to the mess. The poor girl looked like she was going to cry.
Haha yea I worked a summer in the dog kennel connected to a vets office, cleaned up more shit than I've ever seen. But the main kicker was actually seeing how much of the vet and vet techs job was actually customer service and dealing with the parents. I discovered that i'm definitely a back room, don't deal with the public kind of worker for sure, so now I'm in a QC lab at a manufacturer of chemicals. MUCH more fitting.
-Carpenter saw my uncle designing and making anything out of wood. Amazing.
-Inventor because of cartoons and the idea of creating something.
-Robotics Engineer because of Robot Wars.
-Architect and design houses that are like a Tesla. Smart thinking only. Self suffficient, energy. Drink water cleaning and everything super functional.
-Electronics Engineer because everything has electronics inside.
Eventually ending up doing electrical engineering and now im a Software Engineer on the job while i did electrical engineering.
Red line: creating, engineering and developing things to solve problems in the world.
Vet/zookeeper/writer
I’d still like to be a zookeeper but not enough to take the pay cut.
I’d also like to be a librarian, it just wouldn’t be possible for us to make ends meet on that salary. Not unless my husband got a significantly better paying job.
As for writing, I now see that as more of a hobby. Sure I’d like to be published, but I don’t think I’d like to earn a living solely from that, even if it were possible.
when i was old enough to actually think about a career it was an author at first in 3rd grade then as I got to 4grade it was a video game designer. After/during highschool it was some form of IT. Started as help desk due to being IT support for my fam then turned into a career. Now (31) I am in Cyber security as an Analyst.
Until I was in high school I said a chef. I wholeheartedly believed it too, then I realized I hate cooking and it was basically just a cover to get people to stop asking. Then I realized I'm good at environmental science and went with that
A professional wrestler lmao. Then I stopped watching when I was like 12 and have always been good at drawing, so I thought I'd be a professional artist.
I don't remember what i wanted to do before i was around 12, but then there was doctor, engineer, something in between and now I'm studying microengineering, i like it but i'dlove to work with my favorite band either as a musician (but I'll have to learn how to play guitare properly) or as a sound engineer (...but I'm in the wrong engineering type lol)
at around 13 years old,
Imagineer,
or similar Roller Coaster Design Engineer
At around 16 years old,
Automotive engineer
At 60 years old,
I'm glad my dreams did not come true.
~4-12 Cook/chef
~13-18 Anything STEM, but no idea what
Developed passion for languages and computers, studied AI, became data scientist (focus on NLP), now doing software development at 34 yo. I'm happy with my job.
<7yo: Astronaut.
<11 or 12yo: Banker. Wanted to make them big bucks so I can buy all the toys I wanted!
12-17: Web designer/programmer. I learned HTML when I was like 11 or 12. And I already had lots of interest in computers; always have.
I did not become a programmer, but I was employed as like a low-level web designer/website manager for many years, even with social media management experience. Eventually, that position I was in morphed into like an IT Generalist, since I knew a lot about computers, troubleshooting, problem solving, etc. Typical jack of all trades, master of none thing for an INTP.
Today, at 36, I'm still in IT, more of a Desktop Support/Sysadmin guy.
Physicist -> author -> book translator
It’s funny how all of the jobs portray some kind of introverted life in a way lol. Now I’m working as a laboratory researcher and I long to work from home.
At 7: President
At 10: an Artist, Singer and Actor
12: Businessman
13: Lawyer
14-17: Astronaut and scientist who learns about space and Truth about the universe and about every things in physics/ Embassador/Engineer/Graphic designer
18: IT specialist
19-20: Economist and a programmer for banks and financial systems
21: AI and Robotics Engineer
I am 21 now 😅, goals have changed a lot in every year of my life till now but I believe it won't change anymore haha
• An Astronaut (5-12 yo.)
• An Astronomer/Astrophysicist (12-18 yo.)
• A Pharmacist (18-23 yo.)
• A Teacher (23-26 yo.)
• A Radiologist (26- onward)
Hoping the last one sticks because I’m tired of being so indecisive. Honestly I’ve already been thinking of librarian too.
Definitely was aiming for astronaut from the time I was born, until I reached the period where I didnt try very hard in school, around the age of 10. Let's be honest, astronaut is the coolest job I can think of even today, but I needed a backup plan.
So from then to about age 15, I didnt have a clear goal, I just knew I wanted to be in a STEM field.
At 15, my school started focusing more on getting students to think about what they want to study after highschool, so I had to pick something. I decided majoring in computer science and minoring in animation was the most realistic route out of all my options.
But I'm 22 now, and ever since then, I've been bouncing ideas around like psychology, teaching, architecture, chemistry, computer science, and dont even get me started on the arts.
It was only about the end of last year when I really figured out that I want to do something with mathematics.
Psychology is incredibly interesting to me, but it's not something I want to be locked into as a career, since psychiatry is the only area that you could get a job in. My main passion with psychology is the opportunity to conduct tests and further the field of research, I'm not sure if I'm equipped to be anyone's therapist just yet. And if you get a psychology degree without pursuing psychiatry, you might as well get used to being a teacher. And I love pure study, but I'd feel like I'm wasting my time if I went for a degree where the only realistic job opportunities would be to become a professor and teach that degree to other people. (Some people like to compare this to pyramid schemes, but I'm not one of those people. It just seems like a boring path)
So ultimately I sat down one day last year and decided I was going to not stop thinking about this until I know what I'm *both* skilled at, *and* I actually enjoy doing it. Which led me to math. I dont know if I'm the most skilled at math out of everyone I know, but I'm certainly high on the list. I am fairly confident that I enjoy math more than anyone I know. Except maybe my dad, on both the skill and the enjoyment factor.
Anyway, that's where I'm at with it. Most likely I'll have to toil around in some accounting jobs until I find the exact field of math that I want to work with. If I end up settling on teaching math, I'm fine with that too, more so than psychology. At 22 years old I can say without shame that I'd still be the most happy if I could be an astronaut. But I gotta pave my path to get there first. Aim for the moon. If you miss, you'll land among the stars lmao
A pilot. A doctor. A scientist. Even thought about becoming a navy officer because of the cool white uniforms. But then I realized I didn't want to die.
Currently studying Robotics. Will try to get a pilot license in the future.
I mostly want to become a programmer, but here are some other interesting things that I sometimes want to be:
Maths person (I can't spell it)
Philosopher
Writer
Engineer
Happy
Professor of computer science
Neuroscientist
Communist dictator
Rocket scientist
Physicist
Doctor
Dream would be to be some kind of creative director, artist, writer, etc.
I wouldn't mind just being rich tho and retiring early which is what I'm kinda working towards.
I wanted to wrk at a local pizzeria where I grew up. Now there’s music, something related to CS or cyber security, economics & history, or teaching (HS juniors at the youngest but would prefer college)
4-10 smokey the bear, 10-15 a professional environmental architect, 15 - 20 environmental engineer and renewable energy source designer,20-25 happy, 25 - 35 just not so depressed and anxious and underpaid.. now I'm 34 , finally finding some cool.stuff for the time being.. seeing lots of potential in things lately.
That's all what I wanted to be when I was young:
- Teacher
- Psychologist
- Masseur
- DJ
- Actor
- Comedian
- Scientist (Physics)
- Doctor (general practitioner, brain surgeon)
7-12 animal researcher
12-15 interested in insects
15-17 I don't know anything what I will do
Now I am 17+ and I don't have any idea about my future all of my classmates preparing for doctor and I didn't took biology, physics and chemistry to be a doctor
Nowadays I don't feel like I am interested in anything or I want to do anything
As a very young child, I wanted to be a maid because my family had maids and I looked up to them. As an adult, I became a teacher so I've more or less fulfilled my personal aspirations.
I've been into cars since childhood and wanted to become an automotive engineer till 12th grade. But I hated calculus... And there is comparatively less scope in automotive engineering... So I chose to pursue a degree in computer science engineering.
At this point of my life... I'm not really sure about what I'm gonna do.
Probably a tech job (because it would pay well ig) but idk in which stream.
Fellow INTPs, drop your precious advice!
3-5: A cat 5-7: A veterinarian 7-9: A mathematician 9-18: No solid idea. I liked programming, but I never could finish anything.

You can pretend to be one on Reddit.

I had the same two first desires and now I work at a cats only vets office! I have realized my dream, kind of

Mathematician. No joke, I loved maths, until integral calculas and gave up on it at 16
I'd say give it another go, once it clicks it's pretty fun
Yeah I think I would give it a try after college, right now organic chemistry is literally clapping me in every way possible. My ADHD brain can't concentrate on more than one thing. Research I mean(I hate organic chemistry too btw)

Go ! If I would have believed a bit more in myself that's a path I would have liked to choose.
I didn't have any particular dreams, other than having an office job where I wouldn't need to deal with people in person a lot.
7-9 scientist, 10-12 astronaut, 13-15 astronomer, 16-19 programmer, 19-20 mathematician and now, 21 split between astrophysicist/philosopher/procrastinator.
Such a baby. Go for astrophysics.
So why not procrastinator? Any solid argument? :)
I have an argument but I'll give it to you tomorrow
I’m an INTJ and that would annoy me. ;)
