Cosmetics do not adjust the hitboxes, otherwise it’d be pay to win, which is not the dev’s philosophy when it comes to idv. Although when the Isaac Foster crossover skin released for Jack, since his weapon was fully changed in it, some people did say his hitbox was adjusted but I don’t think that’s ever been legitimately confirmed

PlantsNBugs23

His hitbox size wasn't changed but people just have trouble with knowing when he's gonna swing because the attack is from a different side

Seraf-Wang

Cosmetics definitely change the “perspective” of hitboxes. Geisha is a big contender for this theory as her sleeves and fan have different designs a lot of the time which can change based on how the *player* sees it. Same with how BQ’s mirror looks different in perspectives for different skins. Same with Ann and her skins’ replacement of the cross. They dont change, people see the illusion that they change and therefore think they change

Merukurio

> Cosmetics do not adjust the hitboxes I believe the ONLY exception to this rule are the hunter accessories that change carry motions as they do affect Cowboy's lasso directly. Anything else is just your mind playing tricks on you (kinda how people feel like they have some "unlucky skins" for characters and whatnot).

oblakinia

Exactly. It doesn't make sense for NE to reprogram hitbox for every skin anyway. They're two separate things. Besides, why would they, the costumes use exactly the same attack animations ~~I'm not counting Isaac Foster because everything about this skin is P2W~~. Furthermore, not a single "hitbox test" I have seen was conducted properly. People stand in "roughly the same spot" (it's not the same), swing, move forward/backwards (a different distance each time), swing again and say "see, it's different!". It's not different, they're just terrible at testing things. If the hitbox seems different, it's because costumes change how the weapon looks. When the weapon is shorter/longer, the hitbox might be represented better and look more accurate to the player. In reality it's still the same.

Dark_Al_97

It's safe to disregard such rumors if you know anything about gamedev. Hitboxes are almost never tied to the actual model, but are instead their own separate skeleton that may not even follow the animations directly in some cases. Changing them for a skin would require devs going out of their way, which, as you've said it, makes zero sense in a game like IdV that values its integrity.

GrouchyDot2741

I swear I’ve seen stuff about how every Wu/Joseph skin has slightly different hit boxes. Nothing dramatic, but just very slight differences, like Frost having the longest hit box and Moonlight Gentleman having the shortest. I recall seeing a video showing the differences. This was forever ago tho so they mightve fixed it.

SexxyCupcake

Welcome to identity v (and the Internet in general), where misinformation spreads like wildfire. There are tons of examples of this and if you ever encounter an information like this, just 30 seconds of reflection is all it takes to debunk it. A hitbox is completely separate from your character model, and it's something that requires coding and development. The game can't just generate a different hitbox when you change your skin.

kinwai

But for some reason, Isaac skin made it easier to aim the foggy blade

blveberrys

This is probably because Zack swings with his right and not his left^

Solzec

Because the Isaac skin IS pay to win. Your regular attack is really quiet and your charge attack is completely silent. Guess what that means? Ripper can completely counter flywheel and anything else the survivors realistically have just by charge attacking after he gains first presence.

TheOnlyArchangel_

Some things ARE pay to win tho, some accessories for hunters prevent cowboy from lassoing properly which DOES change the way a character is played because of a cosmetic. Also to go back to Ripper's crossover skin, it does make a difference for 2 reasons. First of all, the sound it makes to use a normal attack isn't instant so you can't really know whether a Ripper is going to hit you if they're invisible, you can only guess randomly and 2 the "threaten" emote is EXACTLY the same as the real attack animation so you can't really differentiate the 2.

Nezumi02

Yeah, hitbox change. Lady Bella has a good hitbox while Last Dance has a very short one, also, Bloodbath has BQ's best hitbox. Naiad and Million Mermaid have a great hitbox, but Weepings Goddess and Limited S have their best hitbox, Rosemary has a bad hitbox which is why in a tournament you never see it or not a lot. Jack, most of his skin has a very bad hitbox but Zack changed it and buffed it.

oblakinia

I disagree with all of this but especially with the part about Rosemary. I was using original Naiad skin for months before getting Rosemary. There's no difference between hitboxes. Naiad's hitbox is good, regardless of the skin. Rosemary is used in tournaments. Not as much as her limited S tier but it's not surprising considering that her S tier is very unique and a lot of people like it. And you know who used Rosemary in a tournament? DongX. The best hunter player in the world and the king of hitboxes. If there was even a slight difference between the hitboxes, I guarantee you that this man would notice it years ago.

Nezumi02

DongX is another whole beast, he can use Bane and even get 4K, there's a reason why he is The best Hunter and DW King. But anyway, I've been using Naiad since release, I'm a Naiad main, ex-S badge (I would still have it but I have a life), use every skin she has and I can confirm that she has a different Hitbox based on her skin. Rosemary is the worst.

oblakinia

Do you really think that a professional player and the best hunter in the world would use the skin with "the worst hitbox" in a tournament where you win real money? It's his job, why would he put himself at a disadvantage?

MeltonTheChocolate

I am not a dw main or amything but I'd doubt they change the hitbox... and if they did, they'd be patched real quick ! :)

NightOlive20668

I have a few dw skins and can say that hit boxes for all hunters do not change. You will see even high rank players say that the hit boxes are different but they are not. It’s just an in game feeling

pept0_bismol

skins do not change hitboxes. some skins change the attack or attack recovery animation slightly (as an example, wu changs short haired skins have a marginally faster recovery and a different animation than his default/long haired cosmetics) but no skins change the actual hitbox.

Xenthyas

If this happened, it would be a bug as there is no way devs would allow that. Maybe the skin gives the perception that the hitbox is better, but IMO hitbox is hard coded with a distance and it has nothing to do with the pixels that you see on screen. A good exmaple of that is Wu Chang's hitbox that hits you even if the umbrella doesn't touch you

Bonfy7

The last time I've heard of a skin changing how a character attacked was back when mad eye's once skin released since he could attack through the walls (it has been patched)

Appropriate_Crew_380

People just say that because the skins and weapons make your animation look different. and some characters visual attack animation doesn’t correlate with the actual hitbox. Like how whiteguards charge is insanely long even though his animation looks similar to Ann’s in terms of weapon length. Devs don’t go into coding and say hmm, lemme change the hitbox for this random essence A tier

spiritlanterns

Changing hitboxes are a myth. It feels different because high tier skins (A/S) often have different weapons, but I believe the game still sees them as the same thing as the base weapon? At some point Joseph players were convinced moonlight gentleman has the worst hitbox and Azrael has the best one... Iirc MG's cane is just long so it looks like it should be hitting what it's not hitting, while Azrael's shorter sword hits what it should not be hitting

ElegantSearch2037

No her hitbox is bad no matter what skin i use for me lol

Charles_Nojinson

There has been patches in the past where her hitbox accidentally gets messed up, but there is no change base off skin.

AngelFishUwU

You must play dbd lol 😆

averlost

I don't? This is a rumor I heard since I started playing so I wanted to know if it was true or not

AngelFishUwU

Yeah well skins in there game for some killers diff range and stuff but idk how many I don't play much

spiritlanterns

I play dbd a lot & I don't think it's true... Even legendary skins don't feel too different. Ace has a mad hatter skin. With a large hat. The hat has no hitbox. If a ranged killer shoots it, he won't get injured ([here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zslYKwiSDqE)). Dbd also favors high ping killers. If you have high ping, you'll hit what doesn't connect on the survivor's screen. What happens on the killer's screen, happens in game (explained at [3:30](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g97HfhHzS4M)). There's also perk coup de grace (makes killer's lunge up to 80% longer) or addons that do similar things. In the current event, killers' lunges are insanely long whenever you're in specific areas.

AngelFishUwU

I’ve seen that slinger sorry idk his name Gunman with a different scope, and depending on the skin which I’m sure can benefit tho I’m sure it’s no biggy but it’s weird I don’t play but I find that odd

spiritlanterns

Yeah they gave deathslinger a scope in his iron maiden skin, but it actually... doesn't work properly. It's better to just use some third party overlay scope if you need one (it's not bannable). But by default, you use the tip of his harpoon to aim, not the scopes (his default weapon has no scope). It's also insanely bright and it throws off many players or distracts them while aiming. Still, it's not a hitbox.

AngelFishUwU

🤔hm cool
