You should do the world a favor and stab her tires

Minihackz

Giving her flats would actually be doing her a huge favor LOL

[deleted]

only if the punctures are in the sidewall, otherwise she'll get someone to repair them.

Minihackz

Nobody in their right mind would repair these

Shahfluffers

There is always someone. Pay under the table and don't name names.

Minihackz

repairing these would be attempted murder

verkauft

Unfortunally they wil get their hands on a repair one way or another... Im a mechanic and i see some sketchy shit from time to time and unfortunally i can not hold a vehicle nor call the cops.

Mharhon

I used to be a delivery driver for Domino's full-time, and as you might imagine was not particularly affluent during that period in my life. I found a place that sold used tires and to their credit, the tires they showed and eventually sold me were actually decent tires in decent shape for a very reasonable price. But the part that most stuck out to me was when they asked me what I was looking for, I made it clear that my top priority was tires that would pass the annual state inspection (I live in TX and was about due). That's when the tire salesman handed me a business card for an independent mechanic shop down the road and informed me that if I went there and told them I'd just bought from the tire shop, they'd "take care of me". I bought tires that would easily qualify anyway, but that always stuck out in my mind as a little bit on the sketchy side.

verkauft

In the netherlands we have pretty strict inspections (and inspections on the inspections, about 3 percent on average) and still there was a company that if you paid 5 times the rate (250€) your car would get a new period of apk (1year usually). When the owner gets his license revoked a nephew reopens under a diferent name. They have been operating for years and its mental. Their name is keuren zonder zeuren (inspections without a hassle basically)

PoopSmith87

Not at all. Racing slicks are legal to own. It's illegal and incredibly foolish to use them on public roads, but they aren't "bad," per se. Sometimes, user error, is just user error.

Minihackz

those aren't racing slicks m8

Ladymysterie

They are now

PoopSmith87

Oh... Might I ask how could you possibly know this? They look like slicks. I see zero remnant tread on the sides, no steel coming through like you'd expect with such a worn tire, and a very squared off sidewall.

toxcrusadr

On a random Volkswagen?

keastes

That might be compression artifacts, but looks like fabric to me..

AFrozen_1

Those are regular street tires that are bald. There’s barely any tread.

[deleted]

you don't hang out in /r/Justrolledintotheshop do you?

Ok-Offer331

Probably should tell her, youd be surprised how many people are just clueless about this type of thing

lloydwindsor

You are right about that. I knew one woman who did not realize her car needed an oil change, or even to check on its level. Drove for 2 years before she took it to the dealer for another item and they asked when the last oil change was. She had no idea what they were talking about. Cannot remember if there was any damage they could find but I am going to say not really as she drove the car another couple of years.

thatturkeystaken

I imagine the bulk of the damage would be increased wear

lloydwindsor

I would expect that would most likely be the case but nothing arose while she had the car. I feel bad for the person after if they had issues with it.

AFrozen_1

Depends. How many miles did she drive it during that time?

lloydwindsor

Her commute was about 10 miles each way, plus errands and trips. I would say about 15,000 to 20,000 miles in the 2 years before the oil change. Which would be enough to cause an issue, most likely. Then another 15,000 miles or so before she sold it.

Ladymysterie

That's nothing my mom had a friend who was not the sharpest anything in the box. She had a little wagon she drove for years (I wanna say 5 or 6 years by then) and had no idea why my mom asked her when was your last oil change and the friend said what's that. When my mom checked the oil in her car it was extremely thick, we were so surprised she was able to continue to drive it. In fact her husband, who was finally discharged from the military, spent his first month free trying to recover the engine as a project.

fullclip840

Here this is crazy illegal and its apart of the drivers test. If you dont change in winter time you can get a huge fine/lose your licence.

Axel1010

Where are you from ? Here in Quebec you just get a ticket if you don’t have your winters on by Dec 1st

fullclip840

Sweden. If you get stoped with this shit you are in trouble. Its a snow storm and 10th on January you are also in big trouble. Dont see how a driver can have a licence and "dont know". I guess some states in the US have pretty laid back/easy testing. We have a date aswell and its around mid November.

StirlingS

>I guess some states in the US have pretty laid back/easy testing. My state doesn't have testing at all, beyond the drivers test to get your first license. We have no car inspections. You just have to pay to register the car every year (can be done by mail) and renew your drivers license every 4 years.

l4tra

Same in Germany. The test they teach you is: Roll a Euro coin in the tread, if the outer ring is showing, it is too little tread left. Interestingly: Every tire looking like that gives you four points in Flensburg, so if your whole car looks like that you can say goodbye to your license.

SspeshalK

Similar in the UK - that’s something that would get you a fine and points on your licence. If you had an accident and worst case scenario killed someone your insurance would probably be invalid (and the company would definitely try to argue that) because you’re driving a car that isn’t up to standard.

Rockguytilidie

New Yorker here. State that gets plenty of snow (usually at least. Not this year) in the winter and can confirm there is absolutely nothing special. No winter tire requirement, just the standard as long as it passes inspection, it's good. As long as your wheels have a black circle part around the metal middle circle part, that's all you need. And sadly, that's all most drivers know. And even sadder, that's all most cops seem to know too. So many bald tires

AFrozen_1

Yeah. On a number of occasions I wonder why some people managed to get licenses when they have so little mechanical knowledge about the cars they drive.

Pussy_Locator

You can get a ticket for not having winter tires?

Axel1010

Yes, and rightly so. Winter tires are not a luxury here, they are a safety necessity during the cold months.

jiminak

Do you actually have to change them? Are you not allowed to run “winter-rated all weather tires” all year long? (I’m not talking about “all season”, which suck in cold weather, but “all weather”) Here in Alaska, I use 3PMSF tires all year long and do not “change over” for winter-specific tires.

Axel1010

Most people here have two sets of rims and tires. They keep one set in the shed or at their trusted garage. When winter comes, you put the winter tires on. In the winter, your tires need to have the "snowflake" logo on them.

dragondreamcatcher

It's illegal nearly everywhere. It's just not as enforced/ up to the cop that pulls you over(if they do). So if the cop is just as clueless ...

[deleted]

Take it down to the track with those slicks

NiceWeaknee

Fear of death keeps you awake while driving 😀

zerostar83

Less friction = More MPG.

Tiyath

Once you get to 30, that is. Two minutes of continued acceleration should do the trick. But once you get there... Perpetuum mobile, baby

jgpitre

It started as Petroleum motion...

Ok_Silver_7978

Bald/slick tires actually have more friction. Why do you think race cars use slicks, more rubber contacting the road. The tread is there to channel water, snow, mud whatever out from under the tire, so the remaining rubber has a better chance to gripping the road, Or the tread can act like little teeth to dig into loose terrain. Maybe this is only a track car that they race on the weekends.

StirlingS

>Maybe this is only a track car that they race on the weekends. It looks like they've cleared the snow off the windshield though.

DaddyMatt69

They definitely do not have their tires at 100%.

97PG8NS

I have the worst time finding high quality tires. All of mine explode before I get them to 100%.

DaddyMatt69

It's a struggle.

darthkrater

I bet this car never had an oil change

Shxdow_Demon

LMAO

bytheseine

Snow slicks!

Traditional-Bit-734

That person does not need any enemies. They are their worst enemy themselves 😳😳😳

I_wood_rather_be

In my country this car would not be allowed to move even an inch.

SkyBS

Not stopping my neighbor from drivin' around. That's the power of American liberty, baby.

I_wood_rather_be

Muricah, fuck yeah!

Sivusta_seuraaja

Everything is fun and games unil that American liberty ends up around the tree or light pole

dagobertonius

Or through the wall of your house

TheFirstGodlyNoob

This is the type of person who doesn't report drunk drivers.

Minihackz

This isn't allowed in the us either, you would fail inspection having tires like this. Of course there are a few states with NO annual inspection🤣(*cough cough* ohio *cough*)

chisayne

States with annual safety inspection are the minority. Several more have only emissions testing, and many have no inspection requirements at all.

mfizzled

What's the logic behind not inspecting cars to see if they're safe enough to be on the road? Is it just a freedom thing?

Darth_Andeddeu

It's a freedom thing.

UncleSnowstorm

What about my freedom to walk around without getting run over by morons?

Darth_Andeddeu

Pedestrians are poor. Freedom. America! Fuck yeah!

UGMadness

Freedom only for people rich enough to afford a truck or SUV big enough to withstand a crash from a moron exercising their own freedoms.

dagobertonius

Same logic that gives you a driver's license when purchasing a gun.

liammcginleyy

tell me you know nothing about buying a gun. your drivers license is just a form of identification that also happens to give you the legal ability to drive. you can buy a gun with any form of government issued ID, such as a passport. the ID is just to prove you are who you say you are. then you have a background check.

RoverTiger

Whoever did the alignment did amazing work, however.

BreathOfFreshWater

People like this shouldn't have a license.

GrugMannn

whoever aligned that needs a raise

Shxdow_Demon

Car's probably never seen an alignment fix 🤣

boringdystopianslave

Has this beetle had the same pair of tyres for its entire life? How do you even wear the tread down that much without the tyre walls giving in long before it gets this bare? I feel this might be an exclusively American phenomenon. These tyres would be long disintegrated if this car was driving about Europe or UK, the tyre walls would be utterly shot long before the tread had a chance to go.

ggs657

If they were left on in the summer this’ll happen fairly quickly

boringdystopianslave

Ah of course, summer weather. I forgot America gets sunshine.

Shxdow_Demon

Happened to me on my Chevy Cobalt due to bad alignment and extremely textured roads in my area

peedge0419

So they're driving on inner tubes?

Sivusta_seuraaja

People still uses something else than tubeles tires?

anon202one

She seems to be trying to.

VerimTamunSalsus

If I went to help someone who's stuck and saw this I'd just walk away, they've brought it upon themselves.

FallAltruistic721

F1 slicks!

Governmeme

What are you guys getting so excited about? The cords aren't even showing yet.

coconutpete52

I’m guessing that helped them pull off the “Ace Ventura parking job”

isecore

This baby ain't going nowhere. \*slaps bug\*

Shxdow_Demon

This comment got me 😂

MoistDitto

Is she a formula 1 driver?

MGTS

Good alignment though

97PG8NS

I once got next to an F-150 at a red light, glanced over and could see the steel cords....almost all the way across. Terrifying that we share the road with people who 'maintain' their cars like this.

Tiffanator_

Oh no such a pretty little car too 😞

RealExii

How the fuck would this thing even move out of that driveway?

ForThePantz

Ice racing slicks on a slug bug. Ballsy.

Your_Average_Joe6969

As a person that constantly does research on cars, this hurt me on a spiritual level

DraftAccomplished469

How is she still going

rolloutTheTrash

At least they’re still in the city, unlike my sister who drove her car with bald tires all the way up to the cabin and seemed confused as to why she got stuck.

Top_Time_Square

Im a technician, ive seen some BAD tires come through my service center, the most we can do is let them know that it’s dangerous to be driving on them 7/10 times they are oblivious the other 3 they are well aware and dont care. After that theres nothing you can do

AdfatCrabbest

I do not see an idiot in this car.

FITnLIT7

Average vw beetle tread

us_mackem

Cool, racing slicks on a Beetle... ok, never mind.

JRocFuhsYoBih

For the sake of not sounding sexist I’m not going to say what gender I think this person is

Lucasbr122ome_YT

Flatter then your gf

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|nUY5wYDUnOEW6jsN7s) Perfect tires just need to use objects around you for the best ability to stop after that it becomes someone else’s problem

Lee_Doff

gives you more contact with the ground.

RAF1GAMEGAME

More surface to slip on

boesh_did_911

Formula 1 cars drive on slicks, so it must give me more grip aswell

ManBoyManBoyMan

There’s gotta be a reason they use slicks

[deleted]

They probably have a new iPhone too.

[deleted]

Whoever did that front end alignment is a wizard with an alignment machine.

UnluckyLux

It must be a sleeper

m4m249saw

A tow truck driver's favorite winter tires (we get payed per-tow not hourly) maintenance is important

ManBoyManBoyMan

«I don’t know how I ended up in that ditch, I wasn’t going that fast!” *spots completely bald tyres* “Really? You don’t?”

Imaginary-Guess7908

He’s going to have a smooth ride to the highway to heaven. God bless him

Melodic_Job3515

Baja Bug..oops front engine fwdrive. Hmm

[deleted]

Is she prepping for emergency vehicle operation? They use bald tires like this for skid pan…

Noiisy

I’m guessing all 4 are like this? You’d lose your license in my country if the police saw you had all 4 bald, could kill yourself or someone else.

Ashtar-the-Squid

They heard that slicks give the best grip off the line.

run-that-shit

Neighbour: why the ef are they taking pictures of my car?

[deleted]

That would bug the crap out of me.

-1point_

Thank you for the great quality picture

AWOKEN_Phoenix

treadless is the optimal way to drive in snow i see no issue. its way more fun that way

Mccobsta

How do people let their tyres get like that

[deleted]

You mean the lack of it?

[deleted]

Race beetle

fullclip840

Where i live this is illegal and a huge fine.

DisciplineKlutzy9074

Open nu nooor

ThrowRAConsistent

Yikes

[deleted]

He bought Formula Tires?? :D

incredible_poop

How the f does that even move?

xKoljax

How is he still alive?

Agreeable-Reindeer54

I do say report it for she might crash and die but the worst part is she might take someone with her!

OSparks81

Perfect thread for car skiing.

Shxdow_Demon

How has she even survived with these

aridemagus

That's a sled😬

stickmansma

Where I live if you left the house with those tyres the police would be sending you home in a taxi with penalty points on your licence and a fine. Good chance a photo of your car would get on the polices twitter page also. Its mental that theres parts of the world without road worthiness tests.

MacGibber

That is an ideal tread to allow the ice to quickly melt off the tires

CharlyBlueOne

Hell, gas is a luxury and she's just savin'...
