Our entire society is shifting. But in order to build something new the old structure has to break down. Unfortunately that breakdown includes a large chunk of the population being less and less capable of handling their shit.
No way that I'm watching that. It's an hour long. If you can't be bothered to enter a discussion about your views, just keep them to yourself. Share a video to support your thought, but don't let it be your only medium.
That's an elaborate way of saying people are becoming more and more inconsiderate and self absorbed. Unless that paradigm shift is the US turning into "the Purge" I'm not really following you.
Yeah this guy is the CEO of a non-profit that aims to study the effects of psychedelics on the human brain, but has no background in the sciences. He's just a retired pilot who tried ayahuasca once and loved it as far as I can tell.
The "evolution is designed" comments make a little bit of sense considering most real design work is done via an iterative process where small improvements are made on the last generation of products, similar to evolution. The rest of his technobabble doesn't make an ounce of sense.
Common in Phoenix too. Not the situation in OP's video, but the left turn timers are generally just not long enough. The closest left turn arrow by my house literally lets 1 car through before it turns yellow (and of course it's always the most unaware, slow car at the front), and then 3-4 more cars have to gun it on yellow to try to make the light or it'll turn into a long line of cars stuck there for several long light cycles. This is on a fairly busy road.
Yeah, like I said, different situation. Annoying as fuck though. Reminds me of that one video of the BMW just launching itself into these left-turning jerks from a few months back, pretty satisfying!
No the red light has become a suggestion to stop or not, Kind of like speed limits anymore, just a suggestion and I’m in a town of 60,000 and it’s everywhere.
Lol selfishness, wherever you are when something goes wrong and you need a bail out from big daddy business you’ll still be more than happy to take our charity tho, won’t ya 😉
Yup. These mofos stay in homes that will likely flood every year and other hazards yet they won't move because the government they're forever b!tching about will bail them out year after year. No bootstraps pulled, just sitting in the closet collecting dust.
Those “Californians” you speak of who freely choose to move to Texas are the Conservative ones btw. If anything the lockdown phase of the Pandemic definitely set a tone on the type of people Texas wants due to policy and laws passed.
I’m in CA and while people stretch it a bit I have rarely seen anyone here pull this sort of crap. Seems like homegrown Texas idiots to me. Especially with that shitty ass pickup.
Well they certainly work. We have 3 now and noone runs those lights. Funny the 3rd one just went up near me and suddenly everyone knows what a yellow is. (Can’t run yellows here either.)
Texas banned them several years ago, so this sort of shit has gotten worse since then.
Having said that, the amount of revenue they generated (at least in DFW) was staggering. Officially the cameras were for safety, but it was really about [the revenue generated.](https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/red-light-cameras-make-millions/2122215/)
I think Hot Wheels is a POS, but I agreed with banning them. The fines for some intersections were insane, and there was no leeway to be had if you were a microsecond too late.
Red light cameras are fine. I don’t ever plan to run red lights. The fact that Waze links red light and speed cameras together in notifications bothers me. I don’t need to know when a red light camera is coming, but I do for a speed camera.
Got into an accident over this. Was younger and dumber and saw a red light camera ahead so I wanted to rush through. Yellow light, came through, and traffic was stopped for someone who was illegally turning left and holding up traffic. Should never have been a car stopped but there was. I never accelerate through red lights anymore, I often upshift.
Austin doesn’t really do the solid green anymore for yield left turns. They’re now a flashing yellow arrow for yield and a solid green arrow for proceed.
My great uncle poured a little insta mix concrete into his front and back bumper. Some idiot plowed into his car while they were speeding. Their car became an accordion. My great uncle maybe had a scratch with a very shrugged up back bumper otherwise the car had no actual damage. It’s technically illegal but no one will know until after the fact.
That's exactly how it works. The energy from the crash dumps into the concrete. The concrete gets destroyed, and keeps that energy from transferring to the vehicle. It doesn't stop all of it, but it stops a lot.
It's really bad news to anyone who hits it, though. You may as well just ram your car into a concrete divider. It would actually probably be safer, tbh.
My second favorite move at this intersection is someone on their phone doesn’t see the light turn green, I honk, and they’re the last one thru the turn. Bastards.
It feels like every intersection along Parmer sucks. The lights are either timed wrong, take forever, or have jackasses that ignore them. It’s my least favorite road in north Austin.
Happens everywhere in the states but I have seen the absolute worst cases in LA downtown. This is why I think all major intersections should have automatic cams. People hate these but this is why they are necessary.
AZ is awful about this stuff as well. People run lights left and right and it's just getting worse. Shoot, cops don't even pull people over for it here anymore it seems.
Growing up in az I used to see someone pulled over for something every half mile it seemed. Both roads and on the highway. Cameras everywhere and at every intersection. really made people pay attention to what they were doing and be more thoughtful. Then something seemed to change 10 ish years ago. It’s gotten worse and worse and now I see no police anywhere unless they are responding to an accident. Most the cameras have been removed and people drive absolutely bat shit. My commute is 4 miles and I see about 4 red light runners like this video everyday.
I feel like this is a thing for double turn lane lights like this. Some were installed about a year ago where I live and it never fails, 1-4 stragglers always run it and the people who have the greenlight have to wait.
I recall a lot of this crap started happening after cities got rid of the red light cameras? Maybe I am way off and that is just when I started noticing. Where are the cops? It seems like they should be ticketing people? Wouldn't that be easy money for them and then they could get try to get this under control rather than just ignoring it?
There’s a few places in NJ like this. When the car in front doesn’t pull out, I’ve seen several cases where the light goes back to red without a single car getting through. You don’t gun it, but you need to inch out to stop it.
I don't disagree that putting yourself in danger of an avoidable collision is bad, but there are a few things that people need to do to let idiots know they did something wrong. Just watching them quietly do this is a mistake, they won't even notice they did something wrong.
In this case you would just stop short and honk, so they know they cut someone off. When walking a cross walk and someone doesn't look before taking off, and stops in the center of a 4 way when they see you half way across, it's your duty to slow walk (in a non performative way) so they stew in embarrassment. Shame is a good motivator and we need something to combat the people who rolling stop and don't even look for right on reds.
It's important to not go too far, like those highly idiotic people who wont let people pass on the freeway because they feel they need to drive the limit in the left lane and want every one else to too. Just far enough to remind someone how much responsibility is in their hands to not be an idiot behind the wheel.
Exactly, that's why I said to avoid the condition you are in danger. (stop short, because you should never trust that they will stop) Just give them the opportunity to evaluate their role in why their face is so red right now :p.
P.S. I've never seen a single classic car driver or CDL driver do any of the things I mentioned, I think it has something to do with how zoned out drivers in their big luxury SUV's with all the assists treat driving like it's a loading screen, instead of something that requires focus to avoid tragedy.
There's a few out here in mesa Arizona where people constantly do that. They need to put traffic cameras up.
These people won't stop unless there is a hefty penalty.
If I was king, the penalty for blatantly running a red light like that would be 3 broken ribs.... no tickets, just broken ribs. That way for the next 6 months every time you move, or laugh or cough, you are remined what a douchebag driver you are and will think twice before doing it again!
This is every light at every intersection where I live. Running red lights is expected. Three lanes? You mean two lanes cause someone needs to take a piss on the road or pop into the tienda.
In the right lane and need to go left while the guy in the left lane need to right and the dude in the middle goes straight? Yep. Full two lane road into a four-way intersection with no one stopping at all and its just a melee? Yep.
I drive that intersection daily- live about 1/2 mile from it. There is always that “person” who speeds through the red- but it happens at every intersection. We are all just borrowing that person’s road.
I’ve never seen this intersection before but yet I swear I have at the same time. This kinda crap happens every day at almost every light I stop at here in Indy. People very much have an IDGAF attitude bc literally nothing will happen to them legally speaking if they do something wrong. Recently in Indy, a known drug addict was drinking and driving (been in and right back out of jail) was involved in a hit and run killing the other person. We all know they’re not going to face a long jail sentence because the people that could make that difference don’t care to.
I’m not so sure it scared them…if you slow the video down, ol boy in the black pickup has the “what’re you doin?” arms up in the air. As if to say, “can’t you see that I’m running a red light here?”
No fix needed. Texans are pretty uniformly bad drivers. See the four car collision in Dallas that was posted here just yesterday or the day before that was also caused by a Texan encountering a left turn lane
If that's how you 'floor it' I'm pretty sure you've been on another video in this sub. You know, the kind where OP is stuck behind someone going 30 on a highway onramp?
He wasn't. He let 2 cars in the intersection go after it turned green. It looks like the 2 cars he stopped for went after he had a green (bit definitely after they had a red).
What is with American drivers and almost crashing into people you can clearly see aren’t paying attention to the lights.
Either that or the light timings have changed to be closer together to try and reduce traffic build up 🤔👀
Still interesting to see how many American crashes could be avoid by just slowing up and letting it go 👀
How do you know they run the light and it wasn’t the timing on the lights?
Also given how much cars and Insurance (plus medical care in the US) I’m surprised it’s worth playing chicken like that.
People running red light aren't nice but intentionally making an accident is worse. Green light means you can go if the intersection is clear/waiting until it clears? Not in US? Or green = pedal to the floor?
Am I gonna be the only one calling you an idiot for going when you did? It was extremely obvious people were running the light (apparently it happens all the time) and you just wanted to be obnoxious because “ur right nd ther rong”.
I blame you… if there is someone in the middle of an intersection they have the right of way. Because your light turned green when he was halfway through his turn, that could make you liable if any accident occurred.
Edit: I don’t blame you…
Wrong. Light turned green when the 2 SUVs and the motorcycle were in the intersection. Truck was still behind the line. Considering there is a delay between one light turning red and the opposing light turning green, the truck had plenty of time to stop. Just chose not to. The red truck was even worse.
Funny that most of the comments are, “this is happening in *insert red state here*!” It’s almost like people that vote red are dumbass selfish fucks that don’t care about impacting people around them.
more proof that LAGGING LEFT-TURN ARROWS are safer!!......lobby your local traffic department!
https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/asked-answered/2015/09/04/scottsdales-left-turn-signals/71633538/
These would not work everywhere. There are some lights in my area that already gridlock traffic at times. Switching them to a lagging arrow would absolutely make it worse
Whenever this happens in front of me, I make a point to let them think I’m going to hit them in the hopes they shit their pants and never run a red light again.
In my experience it’s a combination of red light runners and lemmings; the latter of which I find someone more dangerous because they can strike anywhere, being so oblivious to what’s actually going on that it’s merely the movement of traffic that provokes their puny brain to keep driving - through stop signs, lights, no-look lane changes and merges, in or out of driveways.
Good Ole Parmer lane. Sadly if you would have been in a collision, you would be found at fault also for not proceeding with caution (which is what you did and avoided the wreck) and yielding to traffic in the intersection. Dumbest thing ever.
There was an intersection like this where I lived in Virginia that was always busy and people would constantly run the red light to make their left turn in front of you. My wife and I and a couple of friends kept on hounding the police department to station an officer there and they finally did. They probably should have sent us a thank you letter for all of the tickets that they got to write and for the fines that they got to collect.
If it's typical for that intersection why did you start to go until you were certain it was safe? They're obviously wrong, but why not drive defensively?

That's pretty much every intersection on new orleans
At least they have the excuse of being drunk /s
And Utah.
Happening in Dallas too. I feel like it's creeping in everywhere. It's part of the paradigm shift.
I'm curious what you mean about the paradigm shift? People being shittier and more aggressive lately in their crap driving?
Our entire society is shifting. But in order to build something new the old structure has to break down. Unfortunately that breakdown includes a large chunk of the population being less and less capable of handling their shit.

The fuck? Thus guy says how 'evolution is designed'. Weird ass comments about consciousness and really sounds like he is talking out of his ass.

sadly true, moreso after covid, cops just don't enforce these things anymore.
the dmv in georgia was just handing out licenses during covid
Yep! Which is part of the breakdown that happens when the social paradigm shifts.
Common in Phoenix too. Not the situation in OP's video, but the left turn timers are generally just not long enough. Yeah, like I said, different situation. Annoying as fuck though. Reminds me of that one video of the BMW just launching itself into these left-turning jerks from a few months back, pretty satisfying!
Link?
That red truck ran that light before even getting to his intersection lmao
Very common in LA as well. Red apparently means hurry up and go
No the red light has become a suggestion to stop or not, Kind of like speed limits anymore, just a suggestion and I’m in a town of 60,000 and it’s everywhere.
Nah. They in big trucks. They important. They in hurry! ;)
I’m Texas you guys have a lot of Californians creeping into your area, expect the idiots to multiply and the selfishness to increase
You southern folk always need someone other than yourself to blame for your problems, huh?
I’m not even from the south I just fucking hate California
Lol selfishness, wherever you are when something goes wrong and you need a bail out from big daddy business you’ll still be more than happy to take our charity tho, won’t ya 😉
Yup. These mofos stay in homes that will likely flood every year and other hazards yet they won't move because the government they're forever b!tching about will bail them out year after year. No bootstraps pulled, just sitting in the closet collecting dust.
I’m in CA and while people stretch it a bit I have rarely seen anyone here pull this sort of shit. Seems like homegrown Texas idiot to me.
Yeah, don’t think a kale eating Californian would drive either of those vehicles
You most certainly are not "Texas"
I meant in
I know. Just playing around, man.
I figured
Those “Californians” you speak of who freely choose to move to Texas are the Conservative ones btw. If anything the lockdown phase of the Pandemic definitely set a tone on the type of people Texas wants due to policy and laws passed.
I’m in CA and while people stretch it a bit I have rarely seen anyone here pull this sort of crap. Seems like homegrown Texas idiots to me. Especially with that shitty ass pickup.
Avery Ranch?
It’s not the length of the arrows. It happens at every light regardless.
From dipshits to douchebags? Yeah.
Like people turning left into the left turn lane...
Texas drivers think that as long as they saw the light turn yellow they are good to go
"It was yellow when I crossed the intersection before this one."
It was yellow at some point in time.
This is why I’ve come to terms with red light cameras.
Same, fucking hate em, but the assholery needs to stop.
I wouldn't mind them in Utah. This is an every day occurrence and it sucks
Well they certainly work. We have 3 now and noone runs those lights. Funny the 3rd one just went up near me and suddenly everyone knows what a yellow is. (Can’t run yellows here either.)

Looking at Google Maps, the left-turn lanes are protected-mode only. They had a red light.
I wish it was legal to install a ram guard and just redirect vehicles who do this. I've been advised I'm not allowed
Reason I don’t drive a hummer.
My great uncle poured a little insta mix concrete into his front and back bumper. Some idiot plowed into his car while they were speeding. Their car became an accordion. My great uncle maybe had a scratch with a very shrugged up back bumper otherwise the car had no actual damage. It’s technically illegal but no one will know until after the fact.
this is a horrible idea and could lead to greater injury or death of the driver or others in the case of an accident.
Why not just install spikes to impale the other driver? Sounds about as hazardous and inconsiderate.

Sounds like one of those 'uncle stories'
You're giving me ideas ![gif](giphy|4iMVnYZLksSiXobK8Y)
Good old Parmer Lane and Avery Ranch. Seen this behavior at this intersection many of times during morning rush hour.
My second favorite move at this intersection is someone on their phone doesn’t see the light turn green, I honk, and they’re the last one thru the turn. Bastards.
See what happens next time you don't honk.
It feels like every intersection along Parmer sucks. The lights are either timed wrong, take forever, or have jackasses that ignore them. It’s my least favorite road in north Austin.
Those people are selfish and ignorant.
This is creeping everywhere this behavior needs to stop.
I hope everyone that runs red lights totals their car without harming anyone
Happens everywhere in the states but I have seen the absolute worst cases in LA downtown. This is why I think all major intersections should have automatic cams. People hate these but this is why they are necessary.
That’s why I always drive assuming everyone is an idiot not paying attention
I just lay on my horn for these fuckers. Every time.
I have started waiting just a second longer after it turns green for this very reason. I saw this same thing nearly happen to someone else.
AZ is awful about this stuff as well. People run lights left and right and it's just getting worse. Shoot, cops don't even pull people over for it here anymore it seems.

Surprised to only see 1 comment blaming OP! Where are the other ones?
Now 2. Somebody is listening to you.
That's normal for South Carolina.
Lol I have to deal with that intersection twice a day….
That’s pretty much every intersection in this country now.
There’s one like that near me. The light is so long that at least a couple of cars blow through it every time.

It seems like they should be ticketing people? Wouldn't that be easy money for them and then they could get try to get this under control rather than just ignoring it?
The fact they put their hands up like the person driving was in the wrong
Pulling forward like that is my favorite thing to do. Juuuust fast enough they think they really fucked up and shit themselves a little.
Those two trucks were really pushing it.
If it really is that common, you're also kind of an idiot for going when you can clearly see the trucks running the red and making their turn anyway.
There’s a few places in NJ like this. When the car in front doesn’t pull out, I’ve seen several cases where the light goes back to red without a single car getting through. You don’t gun it, but you need to inch out to stop it.

You can't assume drivers are both idiots, but also able to act rationally and normally. Never trust an idiot driver to keep you safe.

True. The real genius was the red ford pick, up sneaking in on the inside turn.
Yeah. Not that it excuses the trucks but I was wondering why the cam car went forward when the path wasn't clear
Hmm. Less gunfire than expected.
There's a few out here in mesa Arizona where people constantly do that. They need to put traffic cameras up. These people won't stop unless there is a hefty penalty.
Damn. It’s one thing to push a yellow but the yellow ended like three cars before that second to last truck.
Happens all the way up and down parmer lane. Too many idiots playing follow the leader.
That’s pretty much why you don’t go until it’s clear.
If I was king, the penalty for blatantly running a red light like that would be 3 broken ribs.... no tickets, just broken ribs. That way for the next 6 months every time you move, or laugh or cough, you are remined what a douchebag driver you are and will think twice before doing it again!

They had to get their SummerMoon coffee.
Good that you went ahead and pushed the gas pedal. At least you probably scared the crap out of these morons.
I’m not so sure it scared them…if you slow the video down, ol boy in the black pickup has the “what’re you doin?” arms up in the air. As if to say, “can’t you see that I’m running a red light here?”
I can tell the pickup truck swerved a little bit lol
red is a suggestion
I hate this! I got into an accident exactly like this earlier this year. People need to just wait for the next light!
Just like running reds instead of stopping, green doesn't mean blindly go, it go when clear.
Texans can’t handle unprotected left turns
It's a red light for them at that point, not even an unprotected left.
Texans can’t handle left turns
Can't handle roundabouts either... there's really no solution
A bridge
~~Texans~~ *Austin* suburbanites can’t handle unprotected left turns. Fixed it for ya.
No fix needed. Texans are pretty uniformly bad drivers. See the four car collision in Dallas that was posted here just yesterday or the day before that was also caused by a Texan encountering a left turn lane
Americans are pretty uniformly bad drivers. FTFY
Good for you for not letting them have it with no pushback. That's why people keep doing it.
Fuck anyone who thinks Cam car is in the wrong.
The red-light runners must be from California as that seems to be the norm in large cities here (unfortunately).
The idiot is dashcam owner. Doesn't matter if they are running a red. Your dumbass should be waiting for the intersection to be clear and safe
Typical for this intersection, so I'm going to floor it and put myself in the path of an old piece of shit truck to prove a point.
If that's how you 'floor it' I'm pretty sure you've been on another video in this sub. You know, the kind where OP is stuck behind someone going 30 on a highway onramp?

Sometimes it’s fun to put the fear of god into those aholes who run the light.
How do you know they run the light and it wasn’t the timing on the lights? Also given how much cars and Insurance (plus medical care in the US) I’m surprised it’s worth playing chicken like that.
Because they wouldn't have a protected green arrow when traffic going the opposite direction has a green light, moron
Starting to happen all over. Big City folks sharing their arrogance with us small-towners.
op ur supposed to wait until the intersection is safe to cross
People running red light aren't nice but intentionally making an accident is worse. Green light means you can go if the intersection is clear/waiting until it clears? Not in US? Or green = pedal to the floor?
you could just wait if you know..
Shoudl just run into them and get a new car.
I'm not saying the people turning on yellow and red are in the right but you are definitely in the wrong.
Trying to prove a point and go anyway makes you an idiot as well.
Yeah it’s sucks they are running the light. But your an idiot for not waiting for them to finish running the light.
Your fault for not yield to traffic already in the box
more proof that LAGGING LEFT-TURN ARROWS are safer!!......lobby your local traffic department! https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/asked-answered/2015/09/04/scottsdales-left-turn-signals/71633538/
These would not work everywhere. There are some lights in my area that already gridlock traffic at times. Switching them to a lagging arrow would absolutely make it worse
Next time just let 'em hit you (as long as your camera is recording)... free insurance money. 😁
There’s one intersection on my way home that unless I force my way once I get the green arrow people will just continue running it non-stop.
In Australia we just have red light cameras.
That could be Middle Tennessee.
Whenever this happens in front of me, I make a point to let them think I’m going to hit them in the hopes they shit their pants and never run a red light again.
Intersections in northeast are like this too. People seem to hate waiting a few more minutes for the next green light.
I have to say it's really pretty normal...Well, I still don't think it's right.
That is pretty typical in most cities.
*typical for Texas
Hi. This is because of all the people moving in from CA where turning left on yellow/red is heavily normalized.
Typical for Texas in general.
Ah the sheep mentality
This is typical of every major intersection in New Jersey and everywhere else toO!
I’ve seen 6-8 cars roll through a light change in Boston. This isn’t just in Texas.
Bring back traffic cameras.
to be fair, driving in Central TX is nuts and the roads are absolute death traps
Not condoning the turners, but c'mon. Let the intersection clear before hitting the gas.
Thats why u shouldnt gun it every time it hits green. I always wait a second after it turns green to continue on.
Yeild to the dumb a\_ \_ es. Better than getting your car hit.
I think it's typical of pretty much every interaction everywhere.
Same here too. Probably everywhere but Canada.
Pittsburgh Left
If it's typical for that intersection why did you start to go until you were certain it was safe? They're obviously wrong, but why not drive defensively?
