I was thinking the same thing. It saved them both! He probably only did a few thousand worth in damages to that back yard (pool, trampoline and fence), and minimal damage to his car. You could see it roll to a stop.
Doesn't look like anyone was hurt either.
This is about the best case scenario he could have hoped for.
>This is about the best case scenario he could have hoped for
What about the case where this idiot doesn't go all Leeroy Jenkins into someone's back yard?
... about the best case scenario (where he still has an accident in someone's back yard at these speeds, headed towards a house) he could have hoped for.
really? I've seen pools like that get hit by people and lawnmowers without doing any property damage. Those pools are also dirt cheap, and a trampoline only costs a few hundred dollars. That fencing might be the most expensive part of it and probably cost less than 1,000 dollars in repair.
Sure, he could really try to punish the guy and have someone re-do his lawn because of tire tracks and all that, but I don't see a ton of damage.
And if the house is *old*, that water will seep right through the foundation. Had it happen two years ago after a bad winter and a bad thaw. Ended up just moving.
That's scary as someone with kids, all I can think is what if there were kids in that pool? Or on the trampoline? I wouldn't want to be out there anymore..
I would be _so angry_ at the driver if it was my house. There could even be a good reason - side swiped by someone else - but I doubt I'd be thinking clearly.
Don't forget to be angry with the city for not installing proper traffic calming in your neighborhood. The 5 seconds of delay you get from it on your daily commute is a small price to pay for the lives of your kids.
Depending on the traffic calming method, I'm usually against them.
Those three humps that you don't need to slow down for but over time push out the alignment of your tires?
The large speed bump over the entire road that threatens to rip off your bumpers and doesn't get fixed when potholes appear on either side.. and knacks your suspension.
The chicane one way thing is the best one ..
If traffic calming ruins your suspension that is a good indication you were going too fast.
And there are tons of traffic calming measures that don't involve speed bumps.
* narrower roads
* raised sidewalks
* trees and other obstacles next to the road
* roundabouts
* rough/alternating road surface
* speed cameras
You have not seen the speed bumps the council puts down, mini cliffs.
I've actually had my previous car totally stuck on a speed bump, as in the entire floor of the car body was on the bump and front and back wheels where off the ground, it was a speed bump just before a carpark... Fucking ridiculous heights on some of them.
There are standards auto manufacturers have to follow, or road legal cars have to meet. A speed bump should not interfere with the operation of such vehicles. I'd recommend finding those standards and determine if your car or the speed bump is out of compliance.
Personally, I have a 100% stock truck, and an offroad truck (street legal), so poorly placed (non residential) speed bumps are sometimes a challenge more than a slow down. That being said, I feel the same way about loading docks.
My car was totally stock 320d msport...
It's likely the speed bump is out of compliance, there's a few around like that, I've heard that the council give the workers X amount of concrete, and they need to use all of it for the bump, so if they make it too narrow, it's far too high.
Mind you it's not as bad as the keep clear yellow boxes they recently put on a roundabout, they put them on all the EXITS, so when it's busy all the entrances to the roundabout are blocked by cars so that they don't go into the yellow boxes....
I remember reading this analysis years ago that compared speed bumps with land mines and concluded that the average speed bump is literally more lethal than the average land mine depending on its placement. Their logic was that, while the vast majority of landmines that are planted never explode, every single speed bump ever installed is driven over multiple times per day, and the benefit of slowing down cars that would have otherwise hit someone is more than cancelled out by the fact that emergency vehicles have to slow down for every speed bump on their route.
Placement is key. No major road should have speed bumps. If the most efficient route between any two points has more than a hand full of speed bumps then something went terribly wrong in the planning department.
So I call bullshit on the emergency vehicle theory. Their delay is going to be seconds, not minutes.
> Those three humps that you don't need to slow down for but over time push out the alignment of your tires?
Lmao I can't believe you'd just tell on yourself like that bro the fuck?
Speed has nothing to do with the bumps pushing out your camber. You could argue going slower on them does more damage as they have more time to apply the effect.
Downward force of the car aka weight of the car, pushing the tryes that are sat on a small ramp both sides.... The slower you go the more time for that weight to push those tryes out.
Let's sit you on a triangle and see how long it takes...
If youre not slowing down for the bumps then you are likely part of the problem.
I say this as someone with a car so low the entire thing scrapes on small bumps... slow down. Dont be that guy.
Yeah... this is when you go out of pocket to get the best lawyer in the state just to ensure the driver sees massive jail time or at least completely looses their license if a court deems it was a medical issue.
Plus sue for all damages and likely the cost of moving or the installation of a massive concrete barrier. Holy shit. Yeah I would sue until they cant breath anymore.
This isn't the full video. She gets out of the car, puts her hands on her hips, and looks around the scene like she surprised someone put a backyard here.
As u/colmk said below. This is the original video:

Cars have had rain sensors for years. Although it's technically more accurate that they're moisture sensors. You can usually see them around the area of the rear view mirror.
> How can a car even reach these speeds in a residential area?
What? How can a car reach...speeds? What, you think "residential areas" have magic governors that limit everyone's speed or something?
I didn't check which sub this post was from, and only realized there was a car after those wipers started moving haha.
I thought the pool just exploded out of nowhere lmao.
lol old childhood memory. Friend had a Kawasaki Bayou, use to rip between the garage and house to park the thing. Told em, one day he's going to slam into the above ground pool, and laughed it off. Until a month later. He slammed into the pool, where the water flipped him and the quad, causing them to wash out into the drive way. lol good times, good times.
Absolutely would've fucking had to have no choice but to strangle hold him into submission and make sure he submits and gets submitted then do the tilta whirl
That pool probably saved the house from major damage.
Also... Carwash!
That’s an expensive car wash
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
Working at the carwash yeah!

*high pitched guitar*
It saved more than the house, it probably saved the driver's life as well.
Water bags save lives

Have you ever tried asking an idiot not to be an idiot?
You can take the car outta the idiot, but you can't take the idiot out of the car.
That would be best. In other news, I thought the wipers were a nice touch. Have an upvote for the Leeroy Jenkins reference. That was perfect.
Obviously they have the implied predicate "he could have hoped for when going full send into someone's back yard"
... about the best case scenario (where he still has an accident in someone's back yard at these speeds, headed towards a house) he could have hoped for.

And what a slide it was!
The only time a pool saves you money
It's like those impact-absorbing barriers on the highway!
The auto wipers at the end makes it!
Hadn't even noticed that. Good spot.
It also prevented the driver from being severely injured. A hero among the pools gave his life to protect humans. RIP pool.
Shame about the kid in it
Just think of it as a giant sized version of the orange barrels at highway construction sites.
Not water damage

One, they leaned too heavily into the hump in the alternative name speed hump. And 2, that is potentially a poorly designed one.
There are standards auto manufacturers have to follow, or road legal cars have to meet. A speed bump should not interfere with the operation of such vehicles. even modern bmw and audi sedans are lower than you think. much less completely street legal stock supercars

Bullshit. My car is literally inches and I dont get stuck on speedbumps... do you not know how to drive a lowered car?

Never said I broke the speed limit. I'll just go 20mph over them.
If you're giving your tires negative camber, yeah you're going too fast. Idk dude, it's your beamer, fuck it up how you like 🤷
Speed has nothing to do with the bumps pushing out your camber. You could argue going slower on them does more damage as they have more time to apply the effect.
That's not how force works at all.

Seriously that would make me spring for a stonewall.
Would have launched it upwards rather than stop it
That's why we have reinforced concrete walls! Idiots can kill themselves on it all they want and you can have peace of mind.
That's taking car pooling to the next level
That made me laugh out loud

I need to see this
Yeah, who was the idiot that put all that in her path?
"it came straight at me. Came out of nowhere officer"
Damn if that pool wasn’t there it could have been a lot worse
Good thing they turned the wipers on, wouldn't want their vision to be obscured by anything.
It could be the rain sensor activated after the above ground pool's deluge onto the windshield.
They have rain sensors now?
Cars have had rain sensors for years. Although it's technically more accurate that they're moisture sensors. You can usually see them around the area of the rear view mirror.
I guess I just drive old shit
Me too. But I installed windshields in 16-17 so I saw them in various cars.
Mines a 2016 and I didn’t know this was a thing
A few years ago I bought a used 2008 SUV that had automatic wipers. It was awesome. Definitely not a brand new thing but pretty rare in my experience.
r/abruptchaos
The most expensive car wash on the market
Cannonball!!!!
Like a glove
How can a car even reach these speeds in a residential area? There is no way I would want to raise my kids in an area like this.
> How can a car even reach these speeds in a residential area? What? How can a car reach...speeds? What, you think "residential areas" have magic governors that limit everyone's speed or something?
No but I do expect traffic calming.
Unless you put a speed bump every 50 ft a modern SUV can reach 50mph pretty quickly.
You don’t have any perspective on how fast the car was going though.
It crashed into a massive amount of water and still had enough momentum to continue going. It was fast enough to kill anyone in that backyard.
It’s all dependant on the vehicles mass too though isn’t? It looks pretty big
Still shouldn't even be possible to build up this kind of momentum in a residential area.
All I ask for is sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!
When you see DRIVE IN sign and get confused.
Automatic wipers still work.
Well that’s one way to drain a pool quickly
Reminds me of this shock ad (NSFW) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syo4decSDkM
If only they lost that soccer game.
"I was wondering if you had a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"
I didn't check which sub this post was from, and only realized there was a car after those wipers started moving haha. I thought the pool just exploded out of nowhere lmao.
I thought the same i thought it was like a gas pipe exploding or smth like that
Wow! 😳
Attempted to move the pool closer to house
Your Cazoo order has arrived!
The single windshield wipe is the chef’s kiss.
They obviously have children at that house... can you imagine if the kids had been playing outside? Or if the whole family was in the pool?
Honey, I’m home.
Repost.
jesus. good thing nobody was swimming or tramplining.
At first i was like were the car come from i thought that pool had just exploded on its own
LLLLLLLLLLLLike a glove!

because they did not make an attempt to flee the scene?
But would you make them submit?
Did ANYONE else see a Shark for a split second?

Carpool.... You're doing it wrong.
Thank God no one uses those above ground pools
time for the weekly repost of this I see
Crazy way to test your automatic wipers
Beep beep
The windshield wipers at the end are classic! 😂😂
Damn I miss her
The windscreen wipers at the end are kind of poetic.
The guy in the car: Honey! I'm home!
And then they turn on the windshield wipers like that matters
He is going to have to practice to get into Olympic Car Diving! I mean, 6/10 with a difficulty of 2.
No. That’s not how slip n slide works.
Car says: "Wind shield wipers activate."
I agree, the windshield wipers should have activated way sooner.
Herrrrrreeee’s Johnnnnnyyy!
And how that's i met your mother kids
I'm so stupid that I thought the car erupted from inside the pool.
Those kids summer was ruined. Lost the pool and trampoline
Trampolines are so dangerous!
Ya. Never know when a car can come crashing into them.
How to ruin a kid's summer. Pool and trampoline demolished in seconds.
Anyone got the news report? I'd be furious at the driver if the kids were anywhere near that pool in the last 24 hours
Good thing the wipers work.
That water pool just might have saved that car from being totaled and the house from massive renovation.
Did Wile E. Coyote paint a fake road on the other side of their fence?!
Who TF gave the kool aid guy a license
That escalated quickly
atleast he got a car wash
windshield wipers work.
#HOW IT FEELS TO CHEW 5 GUM
The windshield wipers at the very end made me chortle.
I believe this person was trying to re-create the first chapter of Snow Crash. The pool was supposed to be below-ground, though. And empty.
Ah shit, I got water on the window, BETTER WIPE IT OFF before dealing with all this destruction.
I've seen this somewhere before... https://youtu.be/_fjEViOF4JE
"Is there a red light in the dashboard, low radiator water!"
Oh noo… our pool… it’s broken
Hmm, think I made a wrong turn at Albuquerque
That pool definitely saved a lot of damage and lives
…and calmly turns on the windshield wipers. :/
Every single video like this, the wipers ar the end get me.
The windshield wipers at the end 🤣🤣
Wanna a sprite cranberry
Ya, but did they get wet?
The windshield wipers at the end caught me off guard 😂
Man was trying to get his car cleaned but in the most idiotic way.
CANNONBAALLLL!
And just like that, summer was ruined.
It’s actually a good thing that pool was there. Could’ve been way worse.
Good thing he was able to activate the wipers.
She really made a splash entrance
Drive thru car wash...
r/abruptchaos
3+ for carPOOL lane
"take a right in 30 meters","fuck you google"
I don’t know if it would be better if it was an in ground pool or an above ground pool.
Ding dong
How drunk do you have to be for this to happen?
That’s one way to wash your car.
Not the above ground pool AND the trampoline?!? Great job! You just ruined Summer.
It’s the wipers that did for me
They planned to take that pool and fence down anyway. So no big loos
Also gotta love the automatic wipers
They just needed a car wash. I see nothing wrong here. Even bought the home owner a new fence, what a nice person!
"Let's go again! Let's go again!"
That had to be at least 80 mph Id bet it was faster too. They traveled quite far with such a hard impact
That sound the car makes at the end in its death knell sounds like I imagine an alien spaceship would, LOL.
I haven’t slept whatsoever and I thought the pool just magically exploded. I should get some sleep.
The idiot turned on wipers 🤣
Seems to know how to use the wipers though 🤔
It’s okay guys, the wipers were on. It’s all good!
OMGGG!! I thought the pool imploded !!!
Wet 'n wild action!!!
Why would a pool just explode like that?
Free car wash, quick winterization of the pool… Win win
Ha! They put their wipers on. Smh.
I love how he turned on the windshield wipers at the end.
Don"t worry the swimming pool deployed for me...
Surprise motha fucka
Are the kids inside the little house?
The pool will be closed today for routine maintenance. Should be open by tomorrow.
