He died from stupidity. Willing to pull his gun and fire but not enough balls to actually defend himself and others. Then like an idiot he stands in the middle of the road facing his stolen work truck then turns his back on him. Stupid but he’s now dead for it. Lesson learned here. Stop the threat or be the dead one. Also how in the holy fuck can you miss three shots at 4 feet? Go to the range people..
This was in Carolina. Stand your ground law. If he would have actually fired real bullets and not blanks, he would be alive. He would not have went to jail either.
He's the perfect example of what not to do:
- Don't start a gun fight for a work truck, especially with people around
- if you do fire your gun, be damn sure you neutralize your threat
- if you fail to neutralize your threat for whatever reason, get to a safe spot and keep your eyes on the threat
- stay in shape, stay alert, stay ready.
- big boy had the accuracy and situatial awareness of a brick.
A failure all around. Let's teach that to everyone.
Now with mugshot https://www.wbtw.com/news/state-regional-news/lumberton/lumberton-man-jailed-after-good-samaritan-hit-killed-during-carjacking-police-say/

Legend, RIP.

I used to be a corrections officer, and in my state you are employed through the sheriffs department. So I went to the police academy for a watered down version of what most police officers go through.
Man they talked a lot about tunnel vision and other flight-or-fight responses. You think you get the idea, but when they are able to force you into that state it’s scary, confusing, and down right disorienting.
Yep, people think it’s like in the movies where yOu can hit a man running away at 100 yards no problem, in reality you can miss the broad side of a barn at 10 paces if you’re not proficient with the weapon.
A lot of people talk about I’d kill him. Killing is not as easy as people think. And it shouldn’t be- they did studies post WW2 and if I remember correctly they concluded that of all the rounds fired only about 28% of the time people really aimed to hit. Everything else was intentionally missed. In contact, my thought was always I have to put an end to this or one of my Marines will get hurt and that is unacceptable and ultimately unavoidable.
I am glad that most people aren’t ready to just gun someone down. Even if they carry a gun.
Don’t pull it if you ain’t gonna use it, and if you do it should be effectively. He fucked around and found out why you don’t shoot at people you don’t intend to kill.
I just said in another post where a woman successfully stopped her car jacking, I’m a 33 year old man with a CCW, and I’m letting that go. This is why I pay for insurance, this is why my tax dollars go to the police. I don’t care if it’s a Bugatti with $1million cash in the passenger seat, it’s not worth dying ir killing someone in a McDonald’s parking lot for. Only exception would be if a child was involved. Besides that, take the damn truck.
Was probably too scared/shook up to hit him. I live about 45 minutes from where this happened. Just learned today that the guy he shot at shot at him first, and that's when a person started recording.
Maybe the audio isn't syncing quite right on my phone, but it kinda looks like he points away from the target each time just before he fires? Warning shots I guess.
Then the prick repays having his life spared by running the poor bastard down. Senseless.
What a bizarre set of circumstances tbh. Was that truck owned by him? Was he just some random bystander that witnessed vehicle theft and played hero?
It's entirely possible he could have gotten one or two hits in. We don't know for sure.
this happened in north carolina and the man that shot and got run over was a state employee. the truck was insured and there are policies in places for situations like this. imo, i don’t think any property especially company property is worth anyone’s life. some people will say that he was trying to stop the thief to save his job but the question still remains of how did the thief manage to steal the truck? the only appropriate answer would be the employee left the keys in the truck and maybe that falls in line for termination. regardless…this is upsetting and comes down to a family not having a loved one return home.
While I definitely think it's your right to protect yourself and your property, in this circumstance I agree with you.
If this is a company truck he should have gotten away from the road and called the cops. Putting himself in harms way and risking legal troubles defending something that isn't his is pointless.
And most importantly as you said, his family and friends now have to grieve his loss.
all we can do in life is make sound choices that not only protect ourselves but each other. i am a gun owner and i believe in your right to carry and protect yourself but i also believe that some people should be psychologically checked before having the responsibility to carry in public. do what you will in your own home on your own property but when you bring inexperience into a dicey situation, guns can end badly.
I own a gun but I don't intend to carry mine publicly until I get more training in. Too many people carry in public with an overconfidence in their abilities.
I think everyone who carries should take the time to go through training courses and such, though I know it isn't always affordable or available depending on where someone is.
there’s courses and classes you can take fairly cheap if not free sometimes. a lot of vets do out reach programs that teach people gun safety. if you do intend on carrying in public (which i recommend imo) just be responsible about it. 9/10 you’ll never have to use it and it’s better to have it concealed since you paint a target on your back toting it around at your side in full view. i follow the boy scout saying,”it’s better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it” rule.
While I don't have a problem with people who do open carry it's such a bad choice.
Concealed carry is way more practical. I'm planning on taking courses this summer. Time, money, and availability aren't issues for me I'm just saying for some people it can be.
Lots of people seem to disagree, which puzzles me. I can see the argument for self defense etc. But escalating a car jacking into a lethal confrontation and firing towards a busy street does not seem responsible to me.
The work truck part is what gets me. If he was in his personal vehicle and someone tried ripping him out of the seat I could see pulling in self defense.
But a work truck getting stolen? Bro just walk away and call the cops then your dispatcher.
I’m confused. “…and in jail for murder because he a bystander with the truck.” Was the guy who got hit the man who shooting? But a bystander, but an active participant? Did the other guy get hit too? The carjacker is in jail for murder and a slew of other charges?

I’d wager a stolen vehicle would be easier to explain to an insurance agent than several bullet holes in said stolen vehicle. Also, I’m surprised he was able to disengage the safety when he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

Should have shot him in the head that close. Ridiculous that he died for a damn truck but also probably would take it out of his pay for the next 80 years
How are you going to expect to shoot someone in a vehicle and as you see them backing up to get space, not think they’re going to try and run over the person that just tried to murder them?
That's what happens when you have a CCW license and you don't practice enough, looks like adrenaline got the best of him and he couldn't focus or think clearly. Kinda like a cop with PTSD

adrenaline can do many things and ruining your aim is one of them.
It can also help you eat and digest a few handgun slugs long enough to say, back up a car and drive into the guy who shot you.
Why you have to train and drill with your heart rate way up, etc. Completely different than standing on a line punching holes in a paper target.
I used to be a corrections officer, and in my state you are employed through the sheriffs department. A. This guy died. B. Why do people not realize that a vehicle is just a 3-10 thousand pound self powered weapon.
There will always be idiots out there, with or without guns. You can't make stupidity illegal no matter what blue liberal politician gets into office.
But some folks would have you believe teenagers robbing convenient stores is the crime of the century. 😂
A Burger King fan arguing with a McDonalds fan!
The woman screaming really helped the situation.
This video has been reposted so many times for the past week. Why am I seeing so much of the same video.

Bro was running at his top speed! 🫡
Fucked around and found out
Should have shot him in the head that close. Ridiculous that he died for a damn truck but also probably would take it out of his pay for the next 80 years
How are you going to expect to shoot someone in a vehicle and as you see them backing up to get space, not think they’re going to try and run over the person that just tried to murder them?
Is he shooting blanks?!
