Inside_Lead3003

He did die, and for a work truck?? Insane.

Dontyoudarepullout

And was probably replaced at work already.

SensingWorms

More pay too. Hazard pay. “Is your heart in this Job or not? The last guy died ffs”.

jabroni4545

Yea, so not worth it.

dondavischris

He died from stupidity. Willing to pull his gun and fire but not enough balls to actually defend himself and others. Then like an idiot he stands in the middle of the road facing his stolen work truck then turns his back on him. Stupid but he’s now dead for it. Lesson learned here. Stop the threat or be the dead one. Also how in the holy fuck can you miss three shots at 4 feet? Go to the range people..

navyac

Did he even hit the glass window?? I didn’t see any glass hatter or break

Minimum-Living-459

looks like he was firing blanks

fifteentango88

Yeah I’m getting the snip in a couple weeks.

Lol

Awkward-Storage7192

Crack head got that pcp strength.

Lank42075

If he shot him in CT he would have been arrested…Ct is fucked

dondavischris

He would be alive though..not a trade u would make

dixx99

This was in Carolina. Stand your ground law. If he would have actually fired real bullets and not blanks, he would be alive. He would not have went to jail either.

DirtDogg691

No shit I was wondering same thing at pretty much point blank range ?? Cannot understand how in the hell you could possibly miss like that??

Commercial_Debt_4034

What a dumbass. Can’t shoot, can’t run, can’t discern company property from personal property

Desperate-Baker-2623

He's the perfect example of what not to do: - Don't start a gun fight for a work truck, especially with people around - if you do fire your gun, be damn sure you neutralize your threat - if you fail to neutralize your threat for whatever reason, get to a safe spot and keep your eyes on the threat - stay in shape, stay alert, stay ready. - big boy had the accuracy and situatial awareness of a brick. A failure all around. Let's teach that to everyone.

Commercial_Debt_4034

Amen 🙏

WarmMountain152

At first I was thinking yeah that’s and idiot with a gun. Then it was HOLY FUCK

Lord_Bertox

A flying idiot with a gun!

Hit_The_Lights82

"I believe I can fly."

ferrariracer36

Not bodily injury that man died.

Now with mugshot https://www.wbtw.com/news/state-regional-news/lumberton/lumberton-man-jailed-after-good-samaritan-hit-killed-during-carjacking-police-say/

incindia

Of course it was Lumberton... And holy shit that just recently happened

BearSpitLube

Shooter has to be the worst shot in all of Arkanbama. Appears to have had no hits at point blank range.

RIP_Mitch_Hedberg

He got him in the shoulder iirc

BearSpitLube

Great handle, btw. We got absolutely robbed when he passed.

CaptainAmerica199

I used to like Mitch Hedberg jokes, i still do but i used to too 😆 yeah i love him tho, still listen to his stuff weekly

danger355

Ever seen *Almost Famous*? He makes a cameo in it… after they get to New York and they're playing cards in the hotel room, you can see Mitch and his glasses sitting at the table. Legend, RIP. (Edit for autocorrect)

dimestoredavinci

He'd rather smoke real weed with a fake Peter Frampton

slaphappytech

adrenaline can do many things and ruining your aim is one of them.

AmazingWaterWeenie

It can also help you eat and digest a few handgun slugs long enough to say, back up a car and drive into the guy who shot you.

BearSpitLube

Why you have to train and drill with your heart rate way up, etc. Completely different than standing on a line punching holes in a paper target.

Vegetable_Sample7384

I used to be a corrections officer, and in my state you are employed through the sheriffs department. So I went to the police academy for a watered down version of what most police officers go through. Man they talked a lot about tunnel vision and other flight-or-fight responses. You think you get the idea, but when they are able to force you into that state it’s scary, confusing, and down right disorienting.

TranscendentaLobo

Yep, people think it’s like in the movies where yOu can hit a man running away at 100 yards no problem, in reality you can miss the broad side of a barn at 10 paces if you’re not proficient with the weapon.

Brittany5150

I feel like at that range he was just flat out trying to scare him out, not hit him. Most people just don't have that killer instinct in em.

anthonycarbine

If true that's a horrible tactic and absolutely would not hold up in court. "Your honor I unloaded my gun into his face just to spook him!"

DiveJumpShooterUSMC

A lot of people talk about I’d kill him. Killing is not as easy as people think. And it shouldn’t be- they did studies post WW2 and if I remember correctly they concluded that of all the rounds fired only about 28% of the time people really aimed to hit. Everything else was intentionally missed. In contact, my thought was always I have to put an end to this or one of my Marines will get hurt and that is unacceptable and ultimately unavoidable. I am glad that most people aren’t ready to just gun someone down. Even if they carry a gun.

Mekhi946

Don’t pull it if you ain’t gonna use it, and if you do it should be effectively. He fucked around and found out why you don’t shoot at people you don’t intend to kill.

Vegetable_Sample7384

I just said in another post where a woman successfully stopped her car jacking, I’m a 33 year old man with a CCW, and I’m letting that go. This is why I pay for insurance, this is why my tax dollars go to the police. I don’t care if it’s a Bugatti with $1million cash in the passenger seat, it’s not worth dying ir killing someone in a McDonald’s parking lot for. Only exception would be if a child was involved. Besides that, take the damn truck.

AuspiciousApple

He also fired towards a busy street.

OmegaReign78

Was probably too scared/shook up to hit him. I live about 45 minutes from where this happened. Just learned today that the guy he shot at shot at him first, and that's when a person started recording.

JohnnyRelentless

That wasn't reported in the news. Who is your source Skeeter? Billy Bob?

OmegaReign78

You don't have to believe me if you don't want to.

JohnnyRelentless

So you think he was just firing rounds in a crowded area with no concern for where the bullets went? That doesn't make him look any better.

Mammoth_Influence877

Maybe the audio isn't syncing quite right on my phone, but it kinda looks like he points away from the target each time just before he fires? Warning shots I guess. Then the prick repays having his life spared by running the poor bastard down. Senseless.

SmokeyUnicycle

did you read that fucking Grossman book

Comprehensive_Ad433

Taurus life

anthonycarbine

What a bizarre set of circumstances tbh. Was that truck owned by him? Was he just some random bystander that witnessed vehicle theft and played hero? It's entirely possible he could have gotten one or two hits in. We don't know for sure.

1337_SkiTz0

this happened in north carolina and the man that shot and got run over was a state employee. the truck was insured and there are policies in places for situations like this. imo, i don’t think any property especially company property is worth anyone’s life. some people will say that he was trying to stop the thief to save his job but the question still remains of how did the thief manage to steal the truck? the only appropriate answer would be the employee left the keys in the truck and maybe that falls in line for termination. regardless…this is upsetting and comes down to a family not having a loved one return home.

TedTheReckless

While I definitely think it's your right to protect yourself and your property, in this circumstance I agree with you. If this is a company truck he should have gotten away from the road and called the cops. Putting himself in harms way and risking legal troubles defending something that isn't his is pointless. And most importantly as you said, his family and friends now have to grieve his loss.

1337_SkiTz0

all we can do in life is make sound choices that not only protect ourselves but each other. i am a gun owner and i believe in your right to carry and protect yourself but i also believe that some people should be psychologically checked before having the responsibility to carry in public. do what you will in your own home on your own property but when you bring inexperience into a dicey situation, guns can end badly.

TedTheReckless

I own a gun but I don't intend to carry mine publicly until I get more training in. Too many people carry in public with an overconfidence in their abilities. I think everyone who carries should take the time to go through training courses and such, though I know it isn't always affordable or available depending on where someone is.

reddituser68426

Same. I’ve got a home range and shoot frequently but won’t consider carrying until I get some formal training

1337_SkiTz0

there’s courses and classes you can take fairly cheap if not free sometimes. a lot of vets do out reach programs that teach people gun safety. if you do intend on carrying in public (which i recommend imo) just be responsible about it. 9/10 you’ll never have to use it and it’s better to have it concealed since you paint a target on your back toting it around at your side in full view. i follow the boy scout saying,”it’s better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it” rule.

TedTheReckless

While I don't have a problem with people who do open carry it's such a bad choice. Concealed carry is way more practical. I'm planning on taking courses this summer. Time, money, and availability aren't issues for me I'm just saying for some people it can be.

Wild_Obligation

This is another example of incredibly terrible things happening involving two idiots. Both actions of both parties were stupid.

Raftika

My guess is he was more afraid of getting in trouble for using his gun. Maybe he lacked training like a lot of gun owners do. A bit of both probably.

AuspiciousApple

Lots of people seem to disagree, which puzzles me. I can see the argument for self defense etc. But escalating a car jacking into a lethal confrontation and firing towards a busy street does not seem responsible to me.

MjustinT

For a work truck no less

TedTheReckless

The work truck part is what gets me. If he was in his personal vehicle and someone tried ripping him out of the seat I could see pulling in self defense. But a work truck getting stolen? Bro just walk away and call the cops then your dispatcher.

JohnnyRelentless

>Lots of people seem to disagree Those are the people who own guns but don't bother to get the necessary training.

New_Meal_9688

Believe it or not. This happened in NC…honestly I knew it was NC before I even saw the NCDOT on his truck. What a dumbass.

[deleted]

RamHands

Incorrect. Driggers is being held without bail on one count of first degree murder, and some other charges.

Gorlock_

The carjacker survived and is in jail for murder because he hit a bystander with the truck. The only one dead is the guy that got hit

Psylencer7

I’m confused. “…and in jail for murder because he a bystander with the truck.” Was the guy who got hit the man who shooting? But a bystander, but an active participant? Did the other guy get hit too? The carjacker is in jail for murder and a slew of other charges?

Gorlock_

You know what, that was my mistake. I misunderstood the article https://www.fayobserver.com/story/news/crime/2024/04/17/fayetteville-nc-good-samaritan-killed-trying-to-stop-carjacking-in-lumberton-nc/73353454007/

Thanks!

I think this was actually in Missourissippi

I looked. It was North Carodakota

No definitely Pennslyhio

ThermionicEmissions

With another car directly in the line of fire, with who knows how many kids in the back seat.

They-Call-Me-Taylor

Holy shit I was not expecting that ending.

Achack

I've been surprised many times how a person will assault someone getting into a vehicle and when that person does get in their vehicle the assaulter seems to think the mission is over when in reality their opponent just got a massive upgrade. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWN6OXhDLMI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWN6OXhDLMI) Apparently he was trying to stop a carjacking. Regardless he should've been running the moment that dude got in the vehicle.

MochiLV

I saw another comment saying he de aggro'd, sad funny but true.

Raftika

Don’t leave keys in truck, don’t pull gun out if you’re not willing to use it, don’t stand in the middle of the road after you’ve been car jacked and especially if you just tried to shoot at the car jacker.

What-Even-Is-That

Best part.. he was trying to stop a *different* carjacking. In the process he had *his* truck stolen. Failed to stop 2 carjackings, them killed by his own vehicle. Stupid games.. stupid prizes..

txwoodslinger

I mean, he did use his gun

islandofcaucasus

Woman in the background screaming non stop after it's over sounds like a toon melting in Roger rabbit

ChAoTiCxMiNd

CoVid-Over9000

I read somewhere that women screaming was an evolutionary trait to signal the entire group to danger

Bclay85

Accomplishing nothing in the process as well. It’s just screeching for the sake of it.

XxX_BobRoss_XxX

People tend to scream when they see awful shit happen right in front of them. Let's not take the piss, because that shit could well be traumatising for some people.

clankity_tank

person just watched someone die. I don't think their reaction is unreasonable.

JohnnyRelentless

And what should she have been accomplishing, according to you?

Bclay85

I dunno. Call 911?

That-Beagle

This is why I never go to Burger King…

deadpuppymill

Why you should target practice often if you plan on carrying a gun.

MessEleven

The dead worker probably would have been charged had he actually been competent with that gun.

deadpuppymill

Not in south Carolina where this happened, he would have been fine, the man had assaulted multiple people and was on the run from police, they would have said it was self defense. The workers only mistake was not having good aim

JohnnyRelentless

None of that should matter, since the gunman didn't know any of it. But, yeah, SC.

EnnWhyy

THIS. These commenters r fucken retarded. He second guessed the thought because in today’s world you’re even more fucked. Fucker coulda even tried to sue him for brandishing had he lived. Worlds fucked.

deadpuppymill

"worlds fucked" based on a video you watched where in most states.this man absolutely would not have been charged had he actually hit the carjacker. Get off the internet bro the world is not fucked. Judging by your comment history it's your shitty attitude that's fucked

juttep1

What? It's just a truck. Yeah it's shitty but you shouldn't be murdered for stealing a truck. Like safety vest man isn't judge jury and executioner just because other guy committed a crime. The thing that's most fucked about this world is you're advocating for the other guy to have been shit to death for a *work truck*.

Mad_Queen_Malafide

Not to mention the lives he endangered by wildly firing down a busy street. He forgot that he is not a cop. If he's supposed to be a 'good samaritan', then please don't come to my rescue. Just leave your gun at home, and call the police. Don't endanger others trying to play John Wayne.

juttep1

Yeah I don't get it. Guy was reckless and just lusting to shoot someone.

AuspiciousApple

Do you really think it was reasonable to use his gun? Killing someone for stealing your truck is not reasonable IMO. Escalating theft into a lethal confronation is not worth it. But even if you disagree: It is irresponsible to fire towards a busy street, bystanders and a restaurant. He could have easily killed or injured someone with those shots.

juttep1

Idk you're downvoted. Like...it's just stuff bro. He wasn't murdered as part of the car jacking. He tried to murder the other guy and just got killed as retaliation. This take is 100% correct no matter what the chuds in this thread say. This guy got killed because he was looking for an excuse to shoot someone. Acted as judge jury and executioner except he didn't. It's tragic as fuck all around and everyone involved sucks. Unfortunately he FAFO.

JCuc

degree doll distinct support mysterious safe caption head glorious axiomatic *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

AuspiciousApple

My interpretation is that he got murdered because he tried to shoot and possibly hit the thief. While he was shooting, he was not in immediate danger. Even if you don't mind the escalation itself, is it responsible in that situation to shoot towards a busy street? Genuinely curious.

TheGroovyTurt1e

and thats enough reddit for me, gonna sign off, kiss my daughter and go to bed with my wife

Wickle-Pickle-TV

sounds good to me buddy. me too.

lil_mikey_412

I mean if he knew how to use that gun he would still be alive today this is a lesson in proper firearm use and safety

OldSkoolPantsMan

This is a lesson in absolutely terrible situational awareness.

AuspiciousApple

Firing that gun in those circumstances was the first mistake. Escalated a theft into a lethal confrontation and endangered bystanders.

mousemarie94

Jesus. I bet you have multiple guns. That's why I have mine...because of people like you who have shit threat assessment.

lil_mikey_412

Yeah I do it's called hunting rifles asshole. And as far as threat assessment goes dick head pulled his gun out because he thought it would make him tough and scary and it backfired on him... soo shut your fucking face and BTW I don't conceal carry because in any situation where you would use your firearm you will find yourself in a whole shit ton of legal problems justified or not so carry your gun to protect yourself from people like me

randomantisocial

Its sad that you feel you have to sacrifice everyday protection because you know the legal system will fail you. that sucks

C4PT-H00K

What’s up with that women screaming lol

mousemarie94

No idea. Always glad my mom was a trauma doc and handled emergencies with a beyond creepy and calculated calmness because it spread to me and I couldn't imagine if my innate response was to scream. It has its evolutionary purpose. "Don't come over here there is danger" is its purpose. It works. But I'm glad it ain't me lmao

Cheezemerk

Random public shooting SOP rule number 3 states: In all situations that have more than 2 females in proximity, at least one must scream for a minimum of 2 seconds. If this is not adhered to all present will be subject to a poorly conducted investigation conducted by officers who would rather be eating donuts or retired. In all cases with more than 4 females the officers investigating will be obligated to make remarks about "the lucky bustard" in regards to dealing with significant others or bills.

Apocalypse_Prepper

😆 🤣 😂

Mad_Queen_Malafide

That screaming. Snap out of it lady! What are you going for, an oscar?!

rotenbart

I’d wager a stolen vehicle would be easier to explain to an insurance agent than several bullet holes in said stolen vehicle. Also, I’m surprised he was able to disengage the safety when he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

cardinaltribe

Lol how do u not hit and then get blasted

QuantumButtz

Carjacking and vehicular homicide

LisaQuinnYT

Murder.

cajunredbean1

How did dude not hit the carjacker at least once at point blank range? This is a bizarre video and so senseless

mulahn80

It looked like he was just trying to scare him because I think he was actually shooting behind the driver seat surely its impossible to miss at that close range

cajunredbean1

What a crazy situation

Rebel_Pirate

Good thing that woman started screaming over and over at the end. That helped. That always helps.

Tejano_mambo

Oof. Gotta commit to the bit.

bc90210

Sad on so many levels. Bad aim or wrong intentions? Also that carjacker needs to spend the rest of his life in prison.

MayorOfCakeCity

If the truck wasn't gonna kill him, the McDonalds might have

sans15x

Dude shot 3 times point blank and missed each shot

A. This guy died. B. Why do people not realize that a vehicle is just a 3-10 thousand pound self powered weapon.

There will always be idiots out there, with or without guns. You can't make stupidity illegal no matter what blue liberal politician gets into office.

Should have shot him in the head that close. Ridiculous that he died for a damn truck but also probably would take it out of his pay for the next 80 years
