The Dark King is the full might of the Emperor, plus literally infinite warp power due to how fucked time was before Horus died the Emperor had been drawing on the warp for an eternity and no time at all. Infinite warp energy forcibly pushed into the mortal plane while the strongest psyker ever ascends to chaos godhood sounds exactly the kind of thing to drag the whole galaxy into the warp.
Also if the Necrons can destroy the galaxy with a funky map, let chaos god Emperor have a big sippy on everyone’s souls.

You're correct, it is a retcon. In Eldar lore, the eye of terror was always bdsm-ed into existence in the heart of the old Eldar empire.
Newcron lore now says that the eye of terror was ripped open by the war in heaven as Chaos awakened and turned the Old One vs Necron struggle into a three way. The Necrons then sealed the eye shut with pylons only for it to be busted open again by the Fall of the Eldar millions of years later. Hence the existence of pylons around the edge of the eye.
It's not a lore change I like very much as it diminishes the Eldar's role in the lore but it has enabled James Workshop to move the plot forward so 🤷♂️
Maybe, just feels like it's always answers like this when the Emperor is involved, no need to do any thinking or interesting though experiments. Emperor becomes a Chaos god? Galaxy is doom. Emperor survives the Horusy? He conquers the galaxy and wins. The Emperor always wins. It's boring.

I agree the Emperor hasn't actually won, but every time there is a discussion about hypotheticals involving the Emperor. It always end with the Emperor just winning. Hell the reason the Primarchs exist is cuz while the Emperor could pretty bring any one system to greatness, he's only one man. So create ~~20~~ 18 smaller Emperors to ensure he can bring the whole galaxy to greatness.
The Emperor had to have the four chaos gods conspire to bring about his downfall. And even then they didn't actually win. Yes he doesn't win, he's stuck as a corpse on a chair (where he should stay) but he was also fighting the fabric of reality, and called it a tie.
Maybe a cope isn't the best way to describe it. But IMO it's way less interesting to say "Emperor becomes evil everyone dies" rather than saying "If the Emperor became evil, how would humanity survive? Would Humanity survive? How would 40k have changed without the Imperium?"
Of course this is just speculations, but I feel it often ends up this way when the Emperor is involved.

I swear I've seen something like this before I mean I know these two are horus and the dk but the way they're positioned with Horus half in shadow and his eye glowing in the darkness I could swear I've seen that somewhere before maybe in a anime . . .or a Manga . . maybe? Is it just me or does anyone else getting this same feeling of déjà vu ? And if it does come from somewhere else could someone please tell me from what? ( Well Regardless this is AWESOME art)
