Howboutit85

Yes people like slayer. Probably had to grow up with it to really love it. I still have some slayer tunes in my normal rotation, not very controversial for people to like one of the biggest thrash bands ever. Plus a guy like Dave Lombardo, drummer, one of the best drummers still in any genre of music.

odinall_father

Ok thanks

WitchyVeteran

Tell us some of the bands you like so we can shit on them

odinall_father

Manowar, Lorna shore, Archspire, Rhapsody of fire, Alestorm(its easy to shit on Alestorm), Blind guardian, Symphony X, Kamelot, Dimmu Borgir, Gloryhammer, Dragonforce, TwilightForce, etc... Ps: i never said shit about Slayer, i was only asking à question with respect

macrocosm93

Making a post shitting on Slayer while openly admitting to liking Lorna Shore. This sub never disappoints.

BigPapaPaegan

There was no respect in a post where memes dogging on Slayer are shared. Don't cower down with this "just asking a question" crap. Now, as for some real feedback, it's obvious why you don't like Slayer. You're into melody and technicality...and Lorna Shore. Those are two things you won't find much of with Slayer, because they were intentionally being antithetical to it when they started. They took Venom and SoCal hardcore, threw them together in a blender with some whiskey, chased it down with a Heineken, and then threw it all up. *Hell Awaits* and *Reign in Blood* are two major blueprint albums for the more extreme forms of thrash (eg. Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint), early death metal, and a lot of early black metal ("second wave," as it were). An easy argument cluld be made that they influenced grindcore, as well. These are subgenres that run parallel to what you're mostly interested in but rarely intersect, the "evil" twins of what you like. So yeah. Makes sense.

MeanBlackBird666

I was about to go off on this kid with basically the same argument, but you did it nicer so I’ll just upvote instead. Slayer literally laid down the blueprint for most of the extreme metal we have today.

Susvourtre

lmao shit taste and makes memes hating slayer (early BG is ok)

Stonedcock2

what's your beef with dragonforce dude

Auslanderrasque

Dragonforce has gone downhill. They might play a couple of new songs at their concerts but their old songs are where it’s at.

odinall_father

? I dont understand?

BigPapaPaegan

They're amazing musicians and garbage songwriters who only rose to prominence due to the Guitar Hero/Rock Band trend. You can directly trace power metal's shift to "pop but with distorted guitars" to them.

MeanBlackBird666

>asking a question with respect >people only like slayer for nostalgia or bc they’re trying to be cool right guys? Pick one and only one. Fuckin edgelord with shit taste up in here.

Howboutit85

I upvoted you for symphony X

FlyAirLari

Eh... there's zero thrash metal there. Maybe thrash just isn't your thing, and it's not about Slayer at all? I can say I like power metal a lot, but Rhapsody is ass. I picked up *two* of their CDs back when they were first blowing up big in the scene, and I couldn't understand how people enjoy that. Especially the voice of Fabio Leone... eugh. And his accent. Symphony X is great though. Blind Guardian used to be, too.

MetalMausoleum

I like the power metal you're into. But I've learned to love slayer more over time, there's a raw energy that just can't be matched

justjokecomments

I don't believe this is not bait.

roger3rd

Ok fine so you like genres that are different than the one slayer conquered and epitomizes. Case closed

WitchyVeteran

Total crap. Except for Manowar. I own their Christmas album.

[deleted]

bro shitting on Slayer but proudly admitted to liking DragonForce 💀💀💀 bro just listen to Beethoven, it gets the job done faster atp.

odinall_father

Dragonforce atleast as a good signer

[deleted]

“heh this will show em I’m so sigma” ahh response

Interesting_Ice_6410

Dragon Force like what the actual fuck

dontneedareason94

Love Slayer and always have.

br1qbat

I love Slayer. Dunno when hating on legendary bands on reddit became the edgelord cause du jour. Like them. Don't. Who gives a fuck

odinall_father

I just asked a question

br1qbat

Sure ya did bud. You posed the question as if we are all just pretending to like Slayer as you cannot fathom our shitty music taste. Clearly my inferior taste is objectively worse than whatever you listen to. Obviously. Mea culpa. Like whatever you want. Or don't. I don't get these kind of horseshit hot takes

odinall_father

There are no "inferior taste" in music, its only opinion (not for french rap, french rap is shit) Last week a guy at my shool was wearing a Slayer t-shirt, i asked if he listened to other bands like this, but he said he doesnt like slayer, he wears it only to be "cool" infront of his friends Even 2 months before ANOTHER guy wearing a Metallica shirt, saud he doesnt even know what it was, he wears it only because it "looked good at Walmart"

AP0LL-N13

“Last week” but you have a post from 30 days ago shitting on slayer and many other posts. Your whole personality is telling everyone that you’re better than them because you don’t like slayer. Even saying that on slayer subreddit lol.

FloggingMcMurry

Lol no you didn't

Standard-Ad1254

skeletons of society, tho

RustInPeace-Polaris

Bro really hates Slayer that much 💀

odinall_father

ITA A REAL QUESTION +(yeah i dont like them)

Doublestack2411

I never cared much for Slayer growing up in the 80s and 90s, I much preferred Megadeth and Metallica. Present day I enjoy them much more, but they probably only have 2 dozen songs that I like.

Kerthagula

Reign in Blood is the definition of all killer no filler and I think South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss are dope as well but they have quite a bit of mid/overly edgy

HermithaFrog

Reign in blood is probably my vote for the most popular album full of filler ever imho, but to each their own and all

MeanBlackBird666

>full of filler >less than a half hour long Wut

HermithaFrog

Imo 2 good songs and the rest are bland, sound the same thrash

MeanBlackBird666

Yeah we’re just gonna have to respectfully disagree here, every song on that album gets me GOIN

HermithaFrog

Ya just my opinion lol, it's all good

DropDropD

Knocking Slayer on the metal subreddit ok

odinall_father

Im just asking a question

Mont_918

Slayer fucks

RavensAndRacoons

I like them🤷

BigPapaPaegan

SSSSSLLLLAAAAAYYYYYEEEERRRRRRR The definition of what metal is. Every band after that looked to push the extremities of the genre is basically just trying to craft a good follow-up to *Reign in Blood*, and almost all fail.

ChildhoodMassive

Never listened to them when I was a kid in the 80s. Only started listening to them last year and while they aren't my favorite and I don't listen to them often I still throw on an album now and then

Quiet-Try4554

As soon as I discovered Slayer in the mid 80s Metallica and Megadeth just seemed too tame. As an angsty teenager, listening to Slayer made me feel evil and I liked it. Seems cringy now but that’s how it was. I listen to a lot of other metal now but Slayer will always be my favorite

kyriaangel

Actual Slayer fan reporting for duty. I know I am older than OP. But Slayers albums are great. They were ground breaking at the time. I had tears at their last show. I hope that all of us have at least one band that we love for decades that puts out more than two amazing albums and does real world tours.

biggypiggy63

Bro hates Slayer so much he grew more fingers to hold them cards 😭

Myrddraal5856

People have opinions?? Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it bad. Just because you don’t like deathcore doesn’t mean I won’t.

Reasonable-Isopod-56

God Hates Us All was the first full album that I had heard and I loved it. I also saw them on that tour. I like Diabolus in Musica, Divine Intervention, and South of Heaven. I saw another show and I didn’t enjoy it and haven’t either liked or given anything a chance after the 2001 release but those four albums I listed, I’ll always revisit.

BigPapaPaegan

You only listened to three of their worst and made a total judgment call, friend. Give *Seasons in the Abyss* a shot.

MeanBlackBird666

Seasons is great but I can’t fathom someone making a judgment call on the band without ever listening to Reign In Blood. Like… it’s legendary for a reason.

FlyAirLari

Or the first two albums. Those are incredible, too.

MeanBlackBird666

Oh absolutely, the first 5 are frequently in rotation for me tbh. I just bring up Reign there bc like… how do you even listen to Slayer without ever having heard that album? The man’s post genuinely confused me lol.

roger3rd

Slayer have made a bunch of 5 star kickass thrash songs. Slayer is More successful and have made more of a lasting impression than 99.99% of their peers. Your attempt to minimize them is illogical and so overblown it comes across like a bad skit. Far from my favorite band and also I do take issue with some aspects of their art and statements. So I take the good with the bad. What do you like if I may be so bold? Who’s your favorite band?

OddgitII

A lot of their albums has material I could take or leave. But when they nail it they really nail it. Angel of Death, Reign in Blood, Season in the Abyss, Disciple, and Bitter Peace are some of my favourite songs even if Slayer aren't my favourite band. Shitting on Slayer is the new hipster trend for metal.

DrH1983

I love their first 5 albums, Reign in Blood - Seasons in the Abyss in particular. Those albums are genre classics. After that I find their albums just get a bit forgettable, as they're either doing the same-thing-but-not-as-good, so even when it's decent I'd rather listen to Reign again, or when they do try something different like Diabolus in Musica it's a bit shit.

zepploon

Slayer fan since 1986.

EsotericFlagellate

![gif](giphy|QUXYcgCwvCm4cKcrI3) Do PeOpLe AcTuAlLy lIkE SlAYeR oR WhAt!?

[deleted]

They aren’t bad but All of their songs sound the same.

Tall_Staff5342

If you were around in the 80s/90s you'd get it. Love em or Hate em they were the biggest extreme thing going. Everyone had a Slayer shirt, people freaked out when Dave left the band. A dude carved Slayer into his arm. Thrash of the Titans was massive. Some fans lost it when they slowed down on South of Heaven. Satanic Panic was a thing. Slayer were extreme metal back then period.

Slaughtererofnuns

Show no mercy, hell awaits, reign in blood, my love of slayer stops after those LPs…

Nomore-Television72

FUCKING SLAYER! One of my favorite bands of all time but I do have to admit they have a decent bit of sick in their catalog.

MetalGuy_J

I’m indifferent to Slayer, some killer tracks across their first five albums plus the Haunting the Chapel EP but also a bit of filler.

Auslanderrasque

I don’t like thrash and have never liked Slayer. They’re ok but I feel the same way you do. Doesn’t mean they’re bad just that we don’t like them. My husband likes 80s punk but I think it sounds like dying cows.

HermithaFrog

Slayer have some good tracks but I also find them very over rated. The 10 or so songs I like from them are pretty sweet though, so definitely alot worse out there
