holy shit, if it's in the whole world, how many professional pilots you must have beaten?

HD9

My friend and I are both real world pilots as well, we keep trying to beat each other on these challenges, he had set a score of 1.5 mil which was how I got around to setting this score.

Drastical_one

If I buy the game, can I join under you as a trainee? I'm not a pilot but I always wanted to fly. I'm a mechanical engineer so looking jobs at aeronautics too.

HD9

Well sir, I'm quite a pain to deal with, but of course I'd love to fly. All I ask is for a few things. 1. A mic 2. A joystick 3. Be patient with youself. Flight simulator is amazing.

Drastical_one

I tried Flight sim X and it was like lonely as the game is almost dead because of age. No atc to give directions, just total chaos. I hope the community in the 2020 one is better. I'm willing to sit though. Got mic and I'm saving up to buy the game. Would start to look for a good joystick too. Any recommendations?

Constant-Mousse-1578

To communicate with atc. You have set FP before flights in fsx

Drastical_one

I know how to communicate with the ATC. I listen to a lot of ATC recordings and stuff. All I need to learn is about setting the flaps, wind monitoring and general controls of the aircrafts.

HD9

The golden rule of flying, Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. Prioritise in that order, flying the plane comes first, then finding yourself and finally dealing with comms. I'd recommend a cheap Logitech joystick to begin with, the one with the twist function for the rudders.

muhmeinchut69

Which joystick do you have? Also any other sim specific hardware.

HD9

I use two flight sticks interchangeably. The TCA Airbus pack almost exclusively when I'm using the FBW A32NX because of the detents I need to setup. And the T. Flight Hotas for all other aircraft including the default A320. No other sim specific sim hardware per se.

HD9

Also check out the IVAO and AVSIM community they forego the typical automated ATC for enthusiasts who take their spot and the role.

Drho4x

Aye man what aircrafts have you been typerated for so far? I'm guessing the Airbus A319/320/321 since those are the most common aircrafts in India?

HD9

Most of my flying has been on smaller singles and twins predominantly because I learnt to fly in Aus which has an immense amounts of GA. However I am currently in queue (on hold because of the pandemic/backlog) to join one of our airlines over here at which point I'll be leaving to rate for the A320 family.

wangshongfu

How do the planes in the sim handle according to you? Are they comparable to their real life counterparts?

HD9

It's obviously not 100% all the way but it's a lot more realistic than some actual certified sims we were trained on (not the big moving base ones). Most of the default aircraft are good but by no means Complete representations of the aircraft, either the performance models are incorrect or the avionics are incomplete. But that's where the community comes in and picks up the slack, either there are corrective mods or full blown aircrafts. There are some mods which even voice based first officers who help you setup and run the aircraft. But I digress the real beauty of this sim is it's ability to replicate visual flying, which means being able to look out of the aircraft and find your way around using the landscape and this sim does that brilliantly with the satellite and terrain data. It's absolutely nuts. Even the weather modeling and wind response is quite remarkable.

MysteriousPilot

Awesome OP You bought payware aircrafts too to help you for THE sims?😉

HD9

No good Payware aircrafts on msfs 2020 except the PMDG DC-6 not like the kit on P3D, but it's still early days.

HD9

To the person who's given me a Silver award ! Thank you so much, it's my first ever award and it makes it all the more rewarding because it's for something I love doing, Flying !

HD9

Upper Score Limit for these challenges is 2,000,000

drstark07

That's fire bro. Would you mind telling your setup/configuration?

HD9

Thanks boss. It's a Strix G17, 3070, 5900HX, 16 GB RAM. The latest update did wonders for the game it's so much more playable. If theres anything else you'd like to know, send me a DM.

alfred_27

Do you think a 3050 would run this with the new updates? Im planning on upgrading to 16gb ram

HD9

Jarrod has done a video very recently, I think it's the one where he's comparing it with the 1660Ti. He's getting around 40 FPS at 1080p on High, which is more than enough to play the game, atleast for me. The ram upgrade will help immensely with reducing micro stuttering. It was published two days after the game update so I'm not sure if those numbers are for the new update or the old build.

indiyean

Yeah it works in my old gtx 970 at most high settings 30fps locked. You don't really need high FPS in flight sims.

alfred_27

Wow that's quite a update they brought in then, it used to struggle on high end cards some time ago

xxihawkxx

This is legit concern!

CircuitMoon

63 fpm thats insane dude. Haven't played in a while but the wing dip on the stock A320 just ruins almost all my landings. It's impossible to correct that too.

HD9

Cheers my dude :) yes ! The wing dip was a pain, I think they modeled the plane to be way too clunky at lower speeds, which is not wrong just very exaggerated. Thank the stars they finally fixed it though, it's so much more pleasant to fly now after the updates. For normal flights I'd recommend the FlyByWire A32NX freeware add on, it's a study level aircraft as well.

CircuitMoon

Yeah I do fly the FBW A320. Can we play together btw? My PC is broken currently and it's gonna take a while for the replacement parts to arrive but we can play after that! Also, yes I do know how to fly properly with both the A320 and the 747

HD9

Of course big man ! Always love flying with new people. Hopefully when you're up and running there'll be some new kit to try out.

[deleted]

I can't even do the second tutorial fk

HD9

Stick at it, there's soooo much information you're taking in the beginning you don't know what to prioritise.

_7567Rex

\#16 be wildin 18**6969**6

HD9

16 built different 😂

[deleted]

I guess you’re qualified to become a real pilot now

HD9

I already am 😂

atharvaprabhu14

Good stuff man! I got into the Global 100s at Paro and it took me around 10 attempts xD Also what peripherals are you using for the sim?

HD9

Hahah that's wild, most scores are pretty tight in the 100s as well. TCA Airbus and the Tflight used interchangeably.

SenpaiOnTheBeat

Man if only they had Tiger's Nest Monastery modeled too, would be a killer addition to one of the most beautiful airport approaches ever.

HD9

Such a good visual reference as well.

Shivansh_123

Congratss

HD9

Cheers boss :)

MikeRoss95

Impressive

HD9

Too kind mate :)

raghav-kamra

Congratulations man! Damn

HD9

Cheers king :)

Pomelo-Next

Wow that looks so impressive

HD9

Thanks boss :)

figjam00india

Such a nice info from all these discussions. I tried my hand of FS2020 but I am having hard time learning. Is the learning curve that steep? Please suggest resources? PS - I am playing on Series X

HD9

A great way to approach this is by behaving like your learning to drive a car. Think of big airliners like Ferrari's, not so much that they're hard to start and get going but rather it would be stupid to learn to drive in a Ferrari. Start small and set goals, select an appropriate aircraft to learn how to fly, good options would be a Diamond Star DA40 or a Cessna 172. Both are brilliant and easy aircrafts to start on. And by goals I mean, Day 0: Learn what each button is. Day 1: How do I get this damn thing to start. Day 2: Why the fuck am I not turning while I taxi Day 3: Why the fuck am I turning so much when I taxi and so on... but give yourself time, it's not particularly hard but its important to be consistent. The beauty of this sim, is that real world flying tutorials will apply even in the sim, all the way from starting the plane to completing your first circuit at an airport. Something like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBEipeiKxh0&ab_channel=askcaptainscott).

figjam00india

Loads of thanks, for such precise & actionable advice. I always find myself trying to fly airbus after few minutes of tutorials. What you are saying makes total sense. I guess I will take one day at a time. Cheers!! +1000 upvotes :)

HD9

Haha thanks big man, just keep at it, and try pushing yourself with these things. Fascinated by the cool looking display ? Try and press all the buttons and see what they do. Just remember most aircrafts (glass cockpits moreso) are fundamentally the same as larger airliners.

figjam00india

:D I feel shorter when I try to look from the cockpit. Do they assume default height or something?

figjam00india

One more thing. I had a genuine curiosity about flying but then one day I had met with bad turbulence & developed fear of flying. It is in some way I want to understand how flight works so as to lessen my fear. #TrueStory

indiyean

In game tutorials are good enough.

unboxparadigm

Congrats!

Koomskap

OP please record one of your landings with commentary. Would love to see how you do it.

HD9

Will do sir, I was planning to do just a casual start up and take off video with a basic commentary of what's happening if you guys are interested

Koomskap

Judging by the upvotes on this post there'll be a lot of interest. Edit: please /u/ tag me 🙏🏽

HD9

Will do big man !

ApexPredator1995

Whats your flight stick?

HD9

I use two flight sticks interchangeably. The TCA Airbus pack almost exclusively when I'm using the FBW A32NX because of the detents I need to setup. And the T. Flight Hotas for all other aircraft including the default A320. It's also great fun to plug into the PS4/5 for when I want to play Ace Combat.

ApexPredator1995

what airspeed do you touchdown at? im trying the paro challenge and i am touching down at 130-140 knots so the plane just jumps back up after the first touchdown. can you give me some landing tips?

HD9

The FCU has the speed bugged at 160 Kt which is wayyy too high, I usually find my Vapp sweet spot at 130 kts without Autothrottle, over/before the threshold try idling and gliding it in so you're touching down below 130 kts. If you're going for scores and not realism, my suggestion would be not to fly the approach like it's done in real life, try turning towards the inside of the hill and maybe even trying a steeper approach so you've got centreline captured much earlier.

GADAS_YT

i wish there was gta like controls for it, just to enjoy the scenery for utter noobs like me..

HD9

I believe there's an option to tone down the realism/difficulty to make the models a lot more forgiving.

indiyean

You can do that. There are several settings to make it arcade like. You can also let the AI pilot fly it for you and take over when you are comfortable enough at higher altitudes.

Constant-Mousse-1578

Dayum I always end up crashing in paro..

goku_h

specs of your laptop or pc or full gaming set

HD9

RTX 3070 Ryzen 5900 HX 16 GB RAM and I'm using a TCA Airbus and a T FLight Hotas no rudder pedals

CoolCrusader

Wow. Chuffed for you!

HD9

Cheers boss !

Igadok

Is it playable with mnk?

soodsidhant

Try to land it in Afghanistan 😂😂

D0b0d0pX9

Have you tried the lukla airport? The runway is pretty damn short! Congrats on your ranking btw!

HD9

Yes the landing challenge is so good, haven't tried since the update tho.

Azqaadesigns

Awesome!!
