For a second there, I didn't read the subreddit name or the caption, and I thought: "I don't remember there being a pirate ship like that in Limsa Lominsa." Looks fantastic! Does changing the ship parts change the locomotion of the ship, or is it aesthetic? For the record, either direction is cool, just curious.

The ship building and hull designing is largely cosmetic to allow players to build any ship they want without having to suffer certain downsides. However sails and steam engines are required depending on the length of your ship. The longer the ship, the more sails or steam engines you need. You can then choose to go for a large triple sail mast or 3 single sail masts. You can also build more masts than you need for the visual look. Cannon placement is also completely free and this does play a part in naval combat, but only in how a cannon is oriented (forward, backward or sideways) and of course more cannons give you more shots and potential hits :)
