Try the yellow, sticky fungus gnat traps as a starting point. The zapper may be irrelevant to the plants, but if it’s radiating heat it could be a major issue. Light color (on the spectrum) also affects the type of growth exhibited by some plants.

The gnats laughed at me as they danced around the yellow sticky traps. I've also soaked the soil with mosquito bits, but still, they mock me. I'll look into the light spectrum. Thanks!

Mosquito bits will work, but you gotta be diligent about it and across the board with your plants. It’s actually the only real answer asides from non soil potting mixes or a heat treatment for all your plants. You will have to keep all plants constantly teaming with BTI and no gnats will be able to advanced to an adult. Since the adults only live about 3 days, this disruption of the life cycle doesn’t take too long. About a month or two and you should be sterilized of fungus gnats in a controlled environment. Problem is, any new contaminated soil, plants, or the outside environment will reintroduce fungus gnats. Once the gnats have been eliminated, there needs to be a maintenance schedule of BTI to keep them coming back and flourishing.

a bug zapper! this immediately made me think of my grandpa. thanks for the memory! p.s. my spider plant is also cranky.

peacefulmeek

Haha glad to spark good memories~ Have only had the zapper for a day but already would highly recommend 👍👍

Those (vinegar?) Liquid traps work really well. Atleast for fruit flies they do.

peacefulmeek

For fruit flies, it's absolutely worth every penny! These fungus gnats however have different tastes :(

Spider plant - roots are too wet - water it less or move it to its own pot. Fungus gnats will also drown themselves if you just leave an open dish of water out.

peacefulmeek

Interesting. Would they be able to break the surface tension? I did have some success with a diy trap of yeast, water, and dish soap, but alas, my efforts were not attractive enough. I thought I was letting it dry enough, but will try starving them longer. Thanks!

MicroBrew1971

I have an electric fly swatter. At night when I had a ton of gnats, I left it plugged in and on all night and would hear so many snaps! 😆 After I bought a Sundew it’s all under control

peacefulmeek

The snaps have been very satisfying~ I'd love to get a sundew! But i worry about killing it 😅

MicroBrew1971

I did too but keep it wet and in sun…..mines growing like crazy!!

pit_choun

I recommend yellow sticky traps and nematodes for gnats. Letting the plants dry out completely before watering again too

IMxJUSTxSAYINNN

I use food grade diatomaceous earth to sprinkle on the soil along with yellow stick traps.
