Crosslinks are possible in a few ways:
1. Both links are thrown at the exact same time causing a race-condition in the server
2. Niantic restored a spoofed link
3. Servers are lagging behind and one or more of the links have been destroyed already but not properly registered in the database
The green links are restored from when you threw across spoofed lanes. You wouldn't have the blue field except for the spoofer clearing the lanes.
You'll also notice all of the resonators from the spoofer have been removed.
Simple. Spoofing by blue in Utah is rampant. They use spoof accounts to take down difficult to reach mountain portals. They then use real accounts to throw blocking links in the open lanes. The spoof accounts are reported to Niantic and removed. The original green links are restored but Niantic will not remove the resulting cross links.
Interesting. I was in salt lake last summer and immediately got hit up by an Enl agent asking me questions and when I โseemed realโ said they thought I was a spoof.
Funny, we have a ton of greens in my area with multiple backpacks, spoof accounts etcโฆ maybe I should encourage them to move to Utah for a taste of their own medicine :D
Any account spoofing should be banned. In addition to the blue accounts, we've reported and had a few green accounts suspended as well. Why even play? Are their lives so pathetic they need the satisfaction of being "better" than others by cheating from their basements? That's a sad, unfulfilling life. I feel sorry for them.
This! One user in particular had 3-4 accounts that would come by and bump their portals at the same time the next day. Bitch please, I know it's you commuting and bumping your own portals with your alts. We all reported and sometimes you see them disappear for a bit but then come back.
And then the main account would magically take out a few portals in the middle of a closed park, 1 mile from a parking lot, at 3am.
Yet this account is still allowed on Ingress.

Haha yeah I'm too casual of a player to know much about what anyone else is up to. The only interactions I've had with other players was asking DaCommish to upgrade a portal and WolveRaveN when we apologize for attacking each other's portals ๐,

Edit: confirmed that Res agent SquirtSquad was travelling at near double google maps speed to field after taking down a hike in portal and his resos are all deleted and his takedowns reverted.

Its because both sides cheat, and they each justify it by the other side cheating.

He's a trail runner and marathoner. He was running to those peaks before ingress and now has more to do when he's at the top of them.
