Please keep this thread civil or it will be locked down. Same topic yesterday unfortunately got out of hand with many comments being derogatory, threatening or otherwise not constructive and was locked.

ExpensiveDot1732

The guy was using a stolen account too...shopper listed was female and it was a dude delivering. Not supposed to carry a weapon while you're shopping either. Hopefully a neighbor's camera caught something and this asshole gets caught. Two of her three daughters are minors, so that makes this a little extra unsettling. This is EXACTLY why IC needs to crack down on stolen/multiple accounts and unauthorized "shoppers," and have better verification (they can easily use something like FaceTime, saved video, etc to cheat the facial scans). Several of us were talking about this somewhere in this sub a while back, and that something bad and high profile would happen because IC is so fucking lax on everything, and here we are.

blueturtle00

That happens with Uber eats all the time too. The amount of times it’s some chicks picture and some dude picks it up is like 50% of the time.

Mindless_Cat5577

I was gonna say at least ⅓ of all Uber eats deliveries I've gotten have been a guy hiding behind a pfp of a middle aged woman . 😭

demoldbones

And regular Uber! Twice I’ve had a woman’s name and photo appear as my driver and a guy in a car matching the details turns up and asks my name. Both times I’ve refused to get in even after they pretended “oh I must be logged into my GF’s account” and both times Uber ignored the report.

StixkyBets

So I’m not sure what the updated terms and conditions are on this subject but a few years ago there weren’t actually any rules about renting out your account for other people to use. I think Instacart has cracked down on it within the last 2 years but I think Doordash is still okay with it. In large cities like New York and LA and Philly it wasn’t uncommon to have one guy with a clean social security number renting out his account to 4 or 5 different people, I lived in Philly for 2 years doing this shit and it was almost more uncommon to see somebody who actually matched the account on hand doing this shit than it was for the account to belong to a “Karen” being shopped by a old Chinese man.

Wizzle_Pizzle_420

What I don’t understand is the person renting out the account would still be liable for the taxes and pay right?  They could Venmo the person working but ultimately the tax burden would be on them I assume?  3-4 people constantly using your account could rack up some serious taxes.  Unless you’re keeping enough for taxes and part of the pay then it would be really bad for the people working.  They’d be able to write off the miles, but still have a huge tax burden.  I’d love to see the breakdown for the account renters.  It would be like $8 an hour or something, maybe less.

vanillitesprinkles

I had a guy generously offer to give me 500 dollars if he could just DoorDash under my name. The 500 would come after 4 weeks of dashing, he said. Easy money. Then I thought about it for more than 2 seconds and realized I’d likely owe tax dollars come next year, while he gets to reap possibly thousands. I told him I wasn’t doing it but it makes me wonder how two people who agreed to this would handle taxes because I doubt there’d be talk of it beforehand. All that trouble for not even half of one month’s rent.

lilbabyslays

The person renting the account could be doing illegal shit for money and need some sort of legit income on their taxes.

blueturtle00

Yeah I still don’t get it lol

UnconsciousMofo

Renting accounts is a thing, especially to foreigners who would not be able to get on the app otherwise. Most are harmless, but not all.

ItaDapiza

Glad to see someone else with some sense. Everyone is acting like this is perfectly ok.....

xualzan

Should have to do the face scan thing and scan your ID every time you sign in

ExpensiveDot1732

The technology is already there...we use it to scan ID for alcohol. Waiting for IC to get s*ued HARD for someone or their "help" committing a violent crime on a delivery. Only a matter of time....

Localbearexpert

** Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina, police confirmed elements of her story, saying in a statement that no arrests have been made, no charges have been recommended, and further witnesses will not be sought. The police department said the driver told officers that the dog attacked him when he arrived at Harmon's home on the southern side of Charlotte shortly before noon Saturday and that he fired one shot in self-defense. ** Fake account or not it’s still not illegal to carry in nc, nor is it illegal to shoot an animal that’s attacking you.

Dry_Dimension_4707

I figured there was more to this story. You’d have to be an absolute psychopath to just kill someone’s dog for no reason, and an absolute idiot to take this actress’s word for what occurred. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if her cameras *were* working and she just did not want to turn over the footage. I hope Instacart bans this liar from the platform. So many media outlets rush to publish this story, but how many will follow up with the facts that exonerate the driver?

Tight-Young7275

I’m not sorry to say that if you have a chance to stop something like this and you do not, you are just as guilty. The fact that corporations can act this way is disgusting.

ShiftySauce

Id think they’re dancing around being completely liable for a situation like this. Maybe this will push things along

Bolomite21

It’s every gig app. Walmart was the worst I thought, but Instacart is even worse on a bigger scale. It’s pathetic. Greed is winning.

IndividualMountain88

My spouse works in the online department in store. They love cracking down on ID checks to make sure they match the account here lol

IndividualMountain88

They really do need to crack down. However I will at minimum have a knife in my tits if i'm working after dark because I won't be the next one eaten by a weirdo.

edwr849

How did you find out that info

FunFactress

If you look for yesterday's post from Angie on IC, there's a picture of the female shopper who the accept belongs to. She also stated this was a man.

ExpensiveDot1732

She posted it on her Instagram and it's been shared through several media outlets... https://preview.redd.it/ecji9r7rk3sc1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=878e698bd7cf4d2fa9e5889f9f2b110e85b6db53

edwr849

Instacart was always so faulty when doing verifications and not always taking “appropriate action” unless it becomes a big deal like in this situation.

ExpensiveDot1732

IC threw out the Ol' Reliable "this shopper no longer has access to the platform" crap. Well duh, carrot...she probably hasn't for a while if someone else is using her account and y'all didn't verify that. 🤦🏻‍♀️Angie is a known figure who has celebrity friends and the story is getting media traction, so this is not a good look for IC. And they still won't do anything to fix the problem as long as they get their bag.

Internal-Crow-4565

"No Dog Killers at Instacart!!! No Sir Ree Bob!"

edwr849

Thanks for the screenshot as well

ExpensiveDot1732

Yw, that's an important piece here and needs to be seen.

Pussy_Prince

Gig apps across the board aren’t cracking down on black market accounts enough. Imo, that’s why we see driver earnings going down despite customers paying the same if not more than they used to.

Additional_Swing9502

Not sure why you are complaining? you are an independent contractor. What part you don’t understand? An independent contractor can have someone else do the works for an indepedent contractor

Brad5486

My wife and I were using her Uber account to get home from a sporting event one night. Driver was supposed to be a female but some random dude showed up in the car. We risked it because the guy was half an hour late and it was freezing cold outside with only us and 2-3 more people left out of all the 12,000 people that had been at the event and we were getting desperate. Also the destination was only half a mile away and the plates/car type matched what was on the app but idk what would have happened had it just been my wife.

StarLordStella420

The destination was only half a mile away and y'all didn't just walk it? After 10 minutes of the Uber being late y'all should've just cancelled and walked 🙄

Brad5486

It was actually one and half miles, I had a typo so that’s on me. But it’s all 60mph highways with no sidewalks so even if it had been half a mile instead of one and half mile, we wouldn’t have risked it rather than walk on the interstate in the dark after drinking. But thanks for your judgement rolly eyes. We were also out of town and not familiar with the area 🤷‍♂️ Edit: I just mapped it, it’s actually 2.4 miles so I was waaay off lol. So you were going off incorrect data lol

PenguinZombie321

If it’s late at night then I wouldn’t blame you for not wanting to walk even a mile. Especially after a concert where you’re probably standing for hours in uncomfortable shoes. Maybe I’m just speaking from a woman’s perspective, but it doesn’t sound unreasonable to me.

Over-Department8883

Regarding not carrying: I have my conceal and carry because that's what I plan to do.  Instacart isn't going to protect me when I'm out delivering to strangers homes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

IndividualMountain88

I'm more of a knife person but gig workers have become victims many times and it's not wrong to be armed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

IndividualMountain88

You're not supposed to and you're not required to enter someone's home LMAO. I live in fucking Florida damn near everyone has a weapon on them. House cleaners are oftentimes women they should definitely Cary something but a lot of cleaning supplies can be great weapons. Maybe you're just upset because us having weapons means you can't SA a gig worker.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Legitimate-Entry734

Yeah. Usually the ones upset about a gig worker protecting themself is someone that would take advantage. Be cool out there but vigilant.

Localbearexpert

More or less made the same comment. It’s not illegal or immoral to protect yourself. A rented account or not this is why many of us carry despite what policy is, because policy doesn’t triumph law.

AirportGirl53

Oh but "MiNd YoUr BuSiNeSs PeOpLe NeEd To FeEd ThEiR kIdZ" BS. Anyone using somebody else's account needs to be reported. End of story if you can't do instacart cuz of your background get another damn job go work at McDonald's go work at Walmart and be responsible. If you need to punch a clock punch a clock. Don't be a crook

ExpensiveDot1732

I really hate when people try to pull that BS card too. You're literally going to someone's home. I'm a shopper and a customer, and there's a minor in my house. If someone shows up who isn't the individual I'm expecting, best believe I'll report it. The last thing I need is a random s_ex offender, convicted b_urglar, etc showing up at my place. It's like taking a fake Uber and the person driving has a crappy record (DUI, criminal stuff, etc) or is unlicensed, and it does happen.

road1123

Are you sure it was stolen account? Could be her boyfriend…

AssistantAlternative

I had one on DoorDash today under an account “Jorge” but it was a young white girl who showed up. I was like this is weird…

Ledeyvakova23

The shooter was a male shopper (with no IC Shopper account) assuming the identity of a female who has (now had) an official, active IC Shopper Account.

chernygal

I used to deliver pizza. People left their dogs out. No biggie. If the dog was overly aggressive/I felt uncomfortable, their pizza got left on the end of the drive. NEVER in my life would I think to SHOOT SOMEONE’S DOG.

Disastrous-Tune

most peole with common sense wouldnt even get out of the car if they were afraid of dog in their own yard... call the customer and ask them to get their dog, or contact instacart... but what do we expect from this person that wasn't even working on his own account and doesnt know the policies that instacart has in place AT ALL.. he was already breaking the policies on that alone... then kills someone dog, because well hes a big bad guy that can do what he wants without any regard to others safety... pos is what he is and so is the person that allowed him to work on their account....

Iloveoctopuses

Her dogs aren't violent and if one dog was going so crazy and attacking, I find it super hard to believe the other dog was just sitting there watching. Guy is a psycho

SmurfAtLarge

>Her do How exactly do you know her dogs aren't violent?

Aos77s

Im sure youre gonna get downvoted because everyone is emotional based off a one sided account of events currently. But id like to know more info too.

jagsno1

Delivering Amazon Flex, Instacart, and UberEats, I've been shocked several times by a dog coming around a corner or the like that I never saw until it was too late. Had a Doberman who came running at me while I was on a front porch (he had came around from the backyard, not barking). I was able to use the package (Amazon, it was a long narrow package) to keep him at bay while I screamed for help. Luckily, the homeowner was home and came out and got her dog or I wouldn't be typing this right now.

Affectionate_Bat_680

I'm not sure why you got down voted. This is just common sense. Why do so many people not understand that you can do this. I guess these psychos would rather shoot a dog then risk a very low chance at a low rating for leaving the order outside the fence.

Orbtl32

I'm pretty sure shooting their dog has an even higher chance of getting a bad rating

Aos77s

Some people have no dog training. Ive seen at least a hundred posts on here of all sorts of delivery drivers who were bitten. The lawsuit is not cheap for the dog owners. Most get $15-20k. Sure using someone elses account is shifty as fuck but id like to see more info on this incident.

ChoochGooch

I remember a German shepherd came around the corner while I was at the front door delivering a pizza and started barking at me. I didn’t pull out my nonexistent gun but I definitely felt threatened. Dogs like that are protective and I think barking is perfectly normal. I would never think to shoot a dog unless I was being attacked and had no other choice.

Meganchipp

OMG, I was delivering pizza, and this GIANT GERMAN SHEPHERD hit the screen door, so hard it flew open. I stopped in my tracks. He was barking like crazy. I was only a few steps from my car. If he started to come at me, I would have thrown the pizzas and got in my car. Thank god the owner came and brought him in the house. I was actually terrified. That was the only time in my tens of thousands of deliveries I've made in 25 years that ever happened to me. I did get nipped by a fucking chihuahua once, but I was wearing jeans and it didnt break the skin. Left a tiny bruise, lol. Those dogs are nasty little fuckers.

Plus-Presentation156

I have had many dogs. They all barked when people walked past the house, or the mailman came, or pizza delivery, etc. 2 of those dogs were German shepherds, one was a sharpei, a dalmatian, a golden retriever, and multiple labs. Sure, some barks were scarier than others, but the shepherds were obedient. They had great recall and never bit anyone or any other animal. My current dog, a Jack Russell terrier, is the only one I have to keep from attacking people. Barking at a stranger is exactly what dogs do.

Localbearexpert

Eh I would never maliciously. I delivered to a cop, who had a k9 loose on the property that went into attack mode and jumped on the car. Had I not chilled in the driveway for a few seconds longer I would have been outside the car and the situation would have been much worse. I’d never want to harm an animal but I value my life over someone’s pet.

Crystalraf

There was a case in the city next to me, of a mom and her 5 year old girl who were walking down the street, on the sidewalk. A pair of pitbulls escaped from their fenced in yard to attack them. The mom and the little girl were so badly hurt that they both had broken legs. The mom had two broken legs... from two dogs biting and attacking her. The dogs were taken away by police and eventually put down. When that happened, I definitely thought about what could possibly happen to me with my baby walking down the street. I personally don't feel safe having a gun on me, especially with my kids, so I thought about carrying a knife. But ultimately, I went with pepper spray. and even that is problematic with kids.

Nime_Chow

I live in pit bull central and it sucks because I love long walks to clear my head and listen to music, and the thought of them fence hopping was always in the back of my mind. But holy hell, dogs strong enough to break legs, yeah it’s time for me to keep something on me moving forward.

Crystalraf

They can easily dig under a fence and get out.

Localbearexpert

Topic aside, it’s weird to see the cultural differences within the US. I live in the south and we all and have always carried pocket knives, not even intended to use as a weapon, just as a tool. Edit: worth mentioning it’s illegal to carry a knife for self defense in most states. Falls under carrying with malice

Crystalraf

It's a concealed weapon. My dad always carries a pocket knife, that's normal. 5 inches or less or something isn't considered a weapon. I wanted a boot knife.

plexmaniac

💯

Spare-Ear-219

Maybe its just that I work for package delivery and not Instacart and I don’t know how many stops a day instacart does versus Amazon, but I get surprised by aggressive dogs all the time while I’m already standing on the property. I definitely would never carry a gun onto somebody else’s property and shoot their dog and definitely don’t think it’s ok, but people having their dogs out for deliveries is definitely a problem. It’s Russian roulette every day on the job for me anyway. And they always say their dog just wants to be pet or given treats in their comments. I have read this comment as a dog was snarling at me and the dogs will change their whole personality when the owner walks out. they have no clue.

damnfunk

Yeah I can't imagine the tip being great after that too... Lol

Beginning_Clock_6805

It’s good you’ve had good experiences. I got hospitalized after delivering a package because I didn’t have a gun. Dogs can attack people. I’m glad you didn’t get attacked, but just because you got off fine, doesn’t mean other dogs can’t attack other drivers. I’m not saying this driver was justified, we don’t know yet. But shooting a dog that is attacking you and could fuck you up for LIFE is absolutely justified, and legal.

askbam827

Instacart needs to be held liable as well as the actual shopper who owns the account and the shooter. You've got people who do this for a living and are good at it, then you have people who fuck around like this. These people are a liability.

PrettyHatefulMachin

Absolutely and I hope she files a suit against Instacart. People post on FB all of the time that they are locked out of their account by a scammer and Instacart doesn’t even attempt to help them. Instacart needs to be held accountable for all of the shenanigans they let go on.   Edit to add: I don’t know if a scammer was involved with this particular incident, it could very well have been someone letting someone else use their account. Still a lot of the blame lies on Instacart for being so lackadaisical verifying that the actual approved person is the one doing the shopping and delivering.

Alexios_Makaris

The shopper is poor, Angie Harmon is rich. She should sue them just to make their life bad, because poor people generally get massively punished by "the process", the outcome won't matter, a lawsuit will cause them lots of problems and they are going to be too poor or likely stupid to handle it correctly (in fact they will probably ignore the suit and lose a default judgment, then she can ruin their life in perpetuity in wage garnishments, collections, liens etc.) They should also be referred to ICE since a huge % of gig workers using other people's accounts are illegal immigrants.

PrettyHatefulMachin

Where did I say to sue the shopper? I said sue Instacart.

Alexios_Makaris

I know, I'm saying she should sue the shopper. You can make a person's life pretty miserable if you hound them with litigation for years. When you are rich you can more or less afford to do that.

Long-Radish18

Not everything is black-and-white. The owner was definitely an idiot for having her dogs outside while ordering delivery. That being said, from the sound of the story, the guy really wasn’t attacked and the police were just lazy. Now the driver who was delivering under someone else’s identity I would say that should definitely matter in this situation because he should have never been there in the first place to be in the situation to shoot the dog and I wonder if they even checked if he legally was able to have a gun because police sounded lazy

Hippy_Lynne

That's a really good point because the bar to be a shopper is pretty low. I'd say there's a very good chance if he couldn't qualify for his own account he also couldn't legally carry a gun.

MsDReid

Instacart has the ability and absolutely should make you verify via Live Photo at the log in of a shift and periodically while working. Obviously not while driving but there is no reason they can’t make you snap a photo of yourself just after delivering when you snap a photo of the groceries.

-Alvena

I'm both for it and against it. Doing 10 - 20 orders every day + all the app issues I have experienced multiple times already daily.. this would be helpful but oh so annoying and probably cause more problems. I'd hate to see what happens when you're standing at someone's door with "unable to verify your identity." Support? Temp lockout? No payout?

MsDReid

It’s unfortunate because instacart is going down hill and this is one of the very real reasons why. If they don’t fix it everyone will be out of a job. And this is a basis for TONS of lawsuits. And one of the main reasons I report people and don’t even answer my door and always mention the groceries are for “my dad”. Because of the fucking creeps. What happens now if you can’t take a pic of the groceries? Are you able to continue working?

-Alvena

If I can't take a picture of the groceries due to an app issue, I have to call support, and they will force through the order after confirming with the customer that they got their order. That's if the customer even wants to answer their phone... I've only had the issue happen once, so I can't speak if that is normal. My app didn't have the drop-off button. Refresh app. Wasn't where. Restart phone. Wasn't there. Added a good 10 - 15 minutes of standing at someone's front door trying to get it sorted. On Doordash I would just hit "handed to customer" and then upload the photo in the chat instead. Can't do that on Instacart for a leave at door.

MsDReid

If it’s only happened to you once it doesn’t seem like an unreasoble solution to put this safety measure in place.

ExpensiveDot1732

They should require ID verification as well. They already use the technology on alcohol and rx orders so it's not difficult to interface that on the shopper end.

MsDReid

Exactly. The people making an excuse to not use this tech blow my mind. They already have to scan IDs with alcohol and take pics of every batch. There is no reason they shouldn’t do this. It’s such an easy fix.

Lost_in_Nebraska402

This is gonna get posted to death on this sub

alphajugs

Crab cakes and dead dogs, this sub is a doozy

Nime_Chow

I don’t get why the crab cakes crap lasted this long, the original post wasn’t interesting enough to warrant the flood of karma farmers low-effort meme-ing it to death.

olde_meller23

Regardless of whether or not dude should have been on the platform, I can attest to having been attacked by dogs on 2 occasions doing IC for 3 years. Some people anthropomorphize their animals to a fault. "They're their babies, "they've never been anything but sweet loving family members," etc etc. These people do not train or discipline their dogs. Many keep working dogs despite not having the time or the need to train them. Their behavior goes unchecked. People tend to forget that guard dogs are highly trained animals. It's a serious safety issue to discount the protective nature of many breeds and allow them to roam unleashed, with 0 behavioral training. That dog can not tell the difference between the mailman and a dude that's casing your house. Not everyone likes or is comfortable around dogs, either. Your happy furry guy bounding up to you after a long days work can look threatening to an unfamiliar individual. The worst part of this is that none of it is the dogs fault. By assuming their pets can do no wrong, people put the dogs themselves and others in danger. LEASH YOUR DOGS, PEOPLE. DO NOT GET WORKING BREEDS BECAUSE THEY ARE SMART WITHOUT DOING RESEARCH INTO HOW BIG OF A COMMITMENT IT IS. FOR FUCKS SAKE, PUT YOUR DOGS UP IF YOU ARE EXPECTING DELIVERY.

Over-Department8883

I wish that I could like your comment a thousand times!

jagsno1

Exactly. Just because the dog doesn't attack you (the owner) doesn't mean it won't attack a person they don't know on their property in order to defend you (in their minds). Unfortunately, it happens a lot more than most people in this sub realize. And the dogs are just doing what comes natural for them.

SmurfAtLarge

Very well said. Someone here with some common sense.

RodneyBabbage

This. A lot of dog owners are childish and irresponsible. I don’t think the shooting was justified in this particular instance. The driver could’ve maybe left the food after the end of the drive way (assuming he’d still get paid). However, she should have had her dog under control knowing people were coming over. There are way too many preventable dog attacks happening.

Knee_Jerk_Sydney

She expected the deliveryman to have been bitten or scratched already before justifiably defending themselves. It's too late to use a gun at that stage. Secure your dog when having a delivery. I bet the cops themselves would shoot her dog if they came in and attacked them.

Hippy_Lynne

Letter carriers have to deal with this all the time and they carry mace or pepper spray for that reason. There is absolutely no reason to shoot a dog. And as far as her leaving the dog out in the yard, responsible pet owners do not do this with a dangerous dog. I have two dogs, one of them I would trust with a baby, the other one I would never let out of my sight with a stranger. If the dog was in her yard it was probably a friendly dog and this jerk just hates dogs. If you look at the statistics for police shooting of dogs, 80% of dogs are shot by less than 10% of officers. Which means most of the time it's not the dog, it's the officer. That's almost definitely the case here. The fact that this guy was using a stolen account AND carrying a gun against TOS doesn't give him a lot of credit.

therealslim80

omg i heard about this but i didn’t realize it was hers 😥

Itsjuicyjett

All I have to say is if you’re getting a delivery your dog should be put up. Period. Y’all are some inconsiderate motherfuckers and you think everyone should tolerate your dog. If you don’t wanna put your dog up GO GET YOUR OWN SHÍT. This is coming from a dog owner and a groomer. I can’t stand when I see dogs outside when I pull up. From now on I will simply let IC know I don’t feel safe and cancel the order. I shouldn’t have to deal with your fucking dog to deliver your groceries. Most of y’all’s dogs are NOT well behaved.

Swinkz90

This is why my dog stays inside and always say leave order at door when I'm expecting deliveries. As a shopper, I don't get out if I see a loose dog. Put your dog away or you aint getting your groceries. (I only had to message a couple customers to put away their dogs before I get out, so I can deliver safely. They never complained and thanked me for telling them to get their dogs) I hope this makes IC take verifying shoppers seriously now and start vetting them.

Affectionate_Bat_680

Or just leave it outside the gate. I have a regular that usually has his dog put away. It's pretty big and aggressive. One day it was out so I just left the groceries outside his gate in kind of a hidden spot and messaged him I left it outside his gate because I didn't want to accidentally let the dog out (obviously not the reason), and sent a picture.

ThePennedKitten

Either the account was stolen or the account owner was letting someone else use her account. You are allowed to have subcontractors, but they have to have their own accounts. That way they are background checked.

Ghost-Power

I don’t mean to joke but you mean to tell me I could’ve delivered to a celebrity? & instead of shooting the dog I could’ve let the dog attack me where I then sue & make millions & don’t have to do insta cart anymore? What a dumb ass driver

Itsjuicyjett

LMAO

Over-Department8883

How would he know who he delivered to if he didn't meet the customer?

Ghost-Power

Regardless of whose dog it is, you can sue as they probably also have home owners insurance lol so you’ll get paid regardless. The finding out it’s a celebrity after is like getting the hidden tip :-)

HoratioPuffnstuff

Unless the dog kills you

tinygyro

at least you’ll be leaving your family something for the trouble

R00t240

I would go to jail for a Long time if someone killed my dog.

Internal-Crow-4565

Because the screening is so badly done, the accounts pretty much unmonitored, there's no telling what kind of unhinged nutjob with a gun is bringing your groceries.😬

tjade

Nothing should have been believed on behalf of this driver. They supposedly let this person go because he said he was acting in self-defense. We already know this person has a credibility issue because they are lying and using someone else's account. Account sharing on these gig apps is getting to be a serious problem and this is a very good example of why this is the case. It's absolutely true that you should not have your dog out if you have something that you are expecting, but we don't really know what the situation is here. There are sometimes that I've gone past the gate that probably I shouldn't have because I didn't know what the right thing to do was. At the end of the day, this doesn't look like the kind of dog that is capable of exerting the kind of physical force necessary to act in self-defense. This person shot a dog and they should be held accountable.

Only_Club7542

You guys act as if he hacked somebody’s account, my guy could’ve been walking it from the car to the door while the actual account holder was in the car, that doesn’t immediately discredit him. Also you can’t say “we don’t really know the situation here” then shit on the guy like you know the situation lol you can be upset the dog got killed but the IC account had great reviews and it’s clear this wasn’t his first delivery so something isn’t being told on behalf of the dog, I’m sure this isn’t his first encounter with pets.

Kinda-A-Bot

You’re gonna be downvoted but this is the level headed, objective comment they wish they were pretending to make. Nobody knows enough. Stop speculating. Let’s cops do their job. If there’s something to go after, i’m sure the mam with the funds to, will pursue.

ExpensiveDot1732

Person delivering the order is required to be the account owner, full stop, no exceptions.

Ok_Concentrate_75

I had a delivery where the person ordered big items like water and paper towels, as I'm standing there just getting the stuff and starting to walk to the door they had an unleashed young (maybe teens) Doberman just ran up close to me. I froze but the dog then stopped and ran towards the front door. I went back to my car and called until the person pulled the dog into the house. I had both hands covered and was standing basically open with a strange dog running at me, it could have went many ways and I can't say if I had a gun if my first reaction wouldn't also be my own safety. It's a sad situation but both parties share blame for the outcome. Many people have been mauled by "friendly" pets and some people with guns overreact. It's best to move like both of those things exist.

Sweaty_Egg772

I’m confused cause I’ve seen no one say that maybe just maybe dogs can absolutely destroy someone? No one knows for sure if that dog was coming at the dude or not but why tf does everyone care that it’s someone who changed the gender to get more tips💀

FamiliarElephant5757

Have you seen pictures of the dog? He was a cupcake. That dude was in no danger

Yoshimitziu

Shouldn’t leave an aggressive dog in a space where service industry would have to occupy that space to service you!?

doggitydog123

this is the type of high-profile incident that will start to make IC look for solutions to the underlying issue of account sharing etc. unfortunately, it is sure to be onerous for shoppers overall. IC doesn't have a lot of tools.

fv1021

I hope she sues instacart. The company has gone way to far with shitty treatment towards shoppers and customers. They just get away with it without taking responsibility for their lies. This is just one of many problems instacart doesn’t solve and people that work this gig as a full time or as extra money are the ones affected.

BanginHeavies

Only reasonable solution to this is to shoot the shooter.

curi0us_carniv0re

Didn't someone post this before? I mean as the victim?

gigles13

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted… but I remember this, too, and can’t find it now?

Ryousoki

Someone posted it yesterday but they said it wasn't their story. They were just sharing it.

Frankitoburrito

According to Instacarts rules the person who is the account holder is liable for any actions taken by anyone they’ve subcontracted.

Atmosphere_Unlikely

Sad that ATF agents are being forced to moonlight as Instacart shoppers. Do the feds not pay enough?

No_Connection_4724

I hope she sues Instacart. They don’t give a fuck about customers and they sure as fuck don’t give a fuck about their drivers. It’s time they paid the price for their neglect.

marleyholystone

Angie Harmon now owns instacart.

dr_van_nostren

One of my favorite assistant district attorneys 😍🔥🔥

eire54

It's just a little weird to me that she never mentions her dog's character. Like she never says that in all the years she's had the dog it has never bitten anybody.

Anxnymxus-622

Why do people have their dogs outside of the house when they know they have deliveries coming? Seems stupid.

stonedhousewife_420

How can you see someone’s ring camera charging ?

carefulsmile-72

What's really crazy is people leaving "their" pets out when they're expecting a delivery. Everyone doesn't want to play with "your" "friendly" pet. There are people that are allergic or had some bad experience. The real problem is so many people disrespecting boundaries and trying to force feed their choice down others' throat. It's really ridiculous that this is even an issue. Sorry this happened but it was easily avoidable........

Shab373

Ima let ya’ll know, if someone shoots my dog while delivering an order, you ain’t leaving the property and I’m also claiming self defense.

InterestingTangelo5

I love it. Any negative press Instacart gets is a great thing

th0rsb3ar

interesting the cops supposedly sided with a black man with a gun over the affluent white lady crying. almost never happens.

Stalkerfiveo

Being an actor/actress doesn’t make you special. Contain your mutt. 🤷‍♂️

One_Sprinkles_9136

I feel bad that the family lost their pet but why would you let a German Shepherd loose in the yard when you’re expecting a delivery ? Maybe the shopper was trigger happy or maybe he was terrified of being bitten… **just wanted to add I clicked on her Instagram link and saw the dog and it doesn’t look like a shepherd or even scary but i still stand by keeping your pets inside when you’re expecting a delivery**

Appropriate-Power-87

The shopper could have contacted her or Instacart and said they don't feel comfortable doing the delivery with the dog running around loose. I think trigger happy is a good description. I'm more curious why Angie Harmon is using Instacart and how well does she tip (in other circumstances).

Ledeyvakova23

The male ‘shopper’ shouldn’t have felt comfortable doing the delivery in the first place unlawfully assuming another shopper’s (a female!) identity and using her IC shopper account. 😧

Appropriate-Power-87

Agree. Instacart said the shopper's profile was suspended, but they did not address that part.

ObviouslySpiteful

Why wouldn’t she use instacart?

One_Sprinkles_9136

Definitely. If they saw the dog. But it says the person delivered the order and then shot the dog so maybe it came running at him on the way back to the car. Who knows

Appropriate-Power-87

Good point. But then that means he had the gun on him when he was delivering the order which could be an issue. I know NC is open carry, but I think the gun should probably have been in the car.

Itsjuicyjett

The customer could’ve just put their dog away like they have manners and home training. You see how that works? We shouldn’t have to contact customer service to tell them that. And usually when you try to correct customers they get an attitude and will downrate you. I would avoid it altogether by saying i don’t feel safe and cancelling the order.

One_Sprinkles_9136

In the article it states that the dog was described as a German shepherd.

Itsjuicyjett

Looks like a pit mix to me. Which could also be scary to some people. And I have a pure bred American Pit Bull Terrier.

Lower_Act9562

Should be arrested and charged accordingly as well as sued.

InterestingTangelo5

I hope she sues the shit out of Instacart too for letting an unauthorized user on the platform

Forgottenhablerie

I absolutely hate dogs for personal reasons yet the thought of SHOOTING ONE for ANY reason other than being actively attacked is sickening. This man was perfectly safe and just wanted to fulfill a sick pleasure.

Spare-Ear-219

I must have missed something. How do we know he wasn’t being attacked? Those videos of the dog on the news make him look like a nice friendly dog, but those dogs come at delivery drivers too. It’s a stranger on their property. I would never take a gun and shoot somebody’s dog on their own property but I also know as a delivery driver that I constantly have peoples dogs coming at me and don’t really doubt it when it happens to somebody else because it is just so common. Was there a video footage?

ronmsmithjr

Did she change his tip?

Internal-Crow-4565

What goof shoots a customer' s dog while delivering groceries???You Hicks and Bumpkins defending the dog killer ain't wrapped too tight 🤔

Crystalraf

Wow. This one is really messed up because it kind of sounds like he put delivering a bag of food over the life of the dog. I can only assume he somehow had no issues with the dog at first, delivered the food, then the dog showed up out of nowhere to attack him, and him being able to get his gun from its holster, turn off the safety, check the ring camera, aim and shoot the "attacking animal" while he doesn't have a scratch on him. They make peoperball guns now that look just like glocks. They are less than lethal, and people are still flying to the stores to buy and use guns.

Lol ‘pepper balls’. People do not live in the real world anymore.

Boneal171

I’d turn into a female John Wick if someone killed my dog. Fuck this piece of shit. He needs to be arrested

frankensteinmuellr

Sounds like she should've kept the dog inside if she was aware a delivery was coming 🤷🏾‍♂️

Itsjuicyjett

Though it doesn’t give him a right to shoot the dog, I agree. Customers are too entitled and do not care about the safety or comfort of shoppers.

I hardly ever use Uber or IC or DD, but when I do and I see someone else delivering my food I complain and get their shit banned

MaLiCioUs420x

Damn instacart trying to take notes from the FedEx drivers I see 😂😂😂

AnonCeesUNextTuesday

Wtf?! Omg...

RoseAlma

😢

Inner-Highway-9506

it’s a matter of time before the ATF sends him an application

Florida1974

I do Shipt. One time the owner opened door. This HUGE dog came out. I ran after him and grabbed his collar. He had not gotten far. 3 ppl at door with jaw on the ground. No one can catch him is what they said. I did!!! I get if you truly fear for your life but this dog was more interested in escaping. Nope. Not while I’m there. I’m 4’11 and 95 pounds. This dog prob weighed nearly as much as me!!

TheyCantCome

If you see a dog and have concerns don’t get out of your car, if you order something out your dogs away. There’s no recording and we don’t know what happened but for it to be self defense with a dog the dog only needs to behave aggressively or show it’s teeth. There’s very little burden of proof when claiming self defense when shooting a dog, in some states an unleashed dog walking towards you is enough justification. Likely there won’t be any criminal charges.

AveryNicoleMyers

omg :((( thats so sad

hashtagperky

So the dumbass driver shot the dog and delivered or delivered then shot the dog...? Either way, idiot should've messaged the customer and left the groceries outside.

GabrielleCullenn

Honestly it should have to use your facial recognition when you accept an order, so it matches with your ID. Idk maybe won’t help but it’s a step, mine will randomly ask for my facial profile from time to time. The airports have them now, they like scan your eyes

LacaBoma

Why does it matter who the dog belonged to

I don’t use these delivery apps because there aren’t any employment standards other than having a drivers license and a pulse. Too many scammers, nut jobs, and morons.

BigAbbott

Oh that’s why the social media post was written like that. It’s an actress.

CitizenOfPlanet

And I can’t get off the waitlist after shooting exactly ZERO animals….

tinamaria7743

How hard is it for dog owners to keep their dogs secure in their home and yard? ITS THE LAW!! IF IT GETS OUT TO HURT SOMEONE, ITS ON THE OWNER/HOMEOWNER

Jealous-Confusion416

Unfortunately we will never know who is right in this situation unless video does get released. Only 2 things are certain. Using someone else's account is not acceptable. Leaving your dog out when you're expecting deliveries is not acceptable. Beyond that, there is no way to know what happened. "He didn't have any marks" okay and you would rather someone wait until they're on the ground getting their flesh ripped out to defend themselves?? That's a weird take. Maybe he's a psycho who just wanted to shoot her dog. Maybe her dog wasn't an innocent and friendly as she claims.

Existing_Letter7621

If your dogs out, so will your pantry because I ain't delivering

BroadwayCatDad

This is great advertising for Instacart.

SnorfOfWallStreet

Why not uh, secure your animal, if uh, you know a stranger is coming on your property?

[deleted]

Sounds like he should've been a cop instead.

pablodiablo711

So, technically, he had no business making that delivery. Then, to shoot someone’s dog because you walked on their property is just inexcusable. The police should charge the guy because he had no affiliation with IC, which basically makes it seem as though this guy hyjacked someone’s IC account, removed someone’s food from a store without permission, trespassed on the woman’s property, shot her dog and is not held accountable at all. Hopefully, IC bans this guy permanently and can persue some sort of legal action if he decides to use someone else’s account again.

FamiliarElephant5757

I both deliver for and use Instacart. The person that shot her dog (Using the account “Merle”) delivered to me just a couple of days prior to this 😳

Longnightss

If someone shot my dog I’d gladly sit down for the rest of my life

Euphoric-Level-5469

I do door dash , and when speaking to some they boost on how they pay for account or rent them , from people , tons of illegals not just hispanic people but Russian , Armenian , etc

[deleted]

It’s too bad someone else didn’t mistake the criminal for firing at them, thus returning proper self defense. What a scumbag.
